Hello,
I have a problem the scenario is :
I have data in an excel file and now I am reading data from that file and insert that data into sql database. this is well.
but the problem is that I have few fields with date time data in excel sheet. In my database I have varchar type data type for these data columns.
I want to read these data columns from the excel sheet and insert only time into the data base.
how can I do this I am using the following line of code for selelcting only time from the excel file.
string qry = "Select CONVERT(CHAR(5),datetime,114) from [" + objStr[0] + "];";
this gives me error message.
help me to read the data from excel file and insert it into the sql table in desired format.

Can we bulk insert only the desired column from a flat file to a table?
I am using SSIS to bulk insert from a file with more than 200 columns. I am trying to find a way I can bulk insert them to multiples table through SSIS.
The one way I can think is pre map the columns from the file to the destination tables. Build numerous Bulk Insert tasks to achieve that. But not sure if SSIS will let me do that.

I will try to explain how I am deriving table2 from table1. I have to count the number of Resource name against each Groupname for a particular week column(Weeki i 1 to n dynamic) where value of Week column is 0, then use this numbber against NotAssigned and the complementary number to be stored as Assigned.
The table formaating is lost in HTML view but just consider any gaps between fields as next column value.
Am I clear in what i am asking , if not please ask me.

I am sitting here as a newbie programming my first web application.I have in my tables a column ‘Birthday’ declared as a smalldatetime (I only want to store year, month and day).Where Year, Month ans Days are dropdownlist. Inserting the data I use this code: Dim Birthday As New DateTime(Int32.Parse(Year.SelectedValue), Int32.Parse(Month.SelectedValue), Int32.Parse(Days.SelectedValue))-and then I use Birthday in my stored procedures. Whan I look into my tabel is ses the value is stored like this: 12.01.1996 00:00:00 This is also the result if I change the column declaration from smalldatetime to DateTime.Is 12.01.1996 00:00:00 (mm.dd.yyyy) the correct value in my DB. I whould have expecetd dd.mm.yyyy or yyyy.mm.dd ?
I am writing a query to return some production data. Basically i need to insert either 1 or 2 rows into a Table variable based on a decision as to does the production part make 1 or 2 items ( The Raw data does not allow for this it comes from a look up in my database)
I can retrieve all the source data i need easily but when i come to insert it into the table variable i need to insert 1 record if its a single part or 2 records if its a twin part. I know could use a cursor but im sure there has to be an easier way !

With "bcp MyDatabase.dbo.MyTable out C:MyFile.Dat -n -T" command line, I could get an exported data file. And I can also import this file into MyTable using 'BULK INSERT MyDatabase.dbo.MyTable FROM 'C:MyFile.dat' WITH (DATAFILETYPE='native');' query statement.
Now, I want to make my own data file just like made by bcp above. Although I could make file of 'char' type, 'native' type file is needed for performance and other reasons. And the format file should not be used.
I have a problem...I have two tables, patient_tran and patient_plan. Patient_tran has case_entry_date and patient_id,patient_plan has patient_id, plan_Id, plan_eff_date and plan_term_date. I need to join these two tables and get the patient_id, plan_id but the plan_id should be the plan_id where the entry_date falls between plan_eff_date and plan_term_date. If doesn't match the criteria then pick up the plan_id where the plan_term_date is null, if there's no null plan_term_date then pick up the plan_id with the most recent plan_term_date. In patient_plan table, there's could be more than one plan per patient. How can I do this? Can anyone please help, will be most appreciated.
I are using a BULK INSERT to insert the data from a ascii file to a sql table. The table has a ProductInstanceId column that exists in the tables but does not exist in the ascii DICast data. I am setting the ProductInstanceId to a Guid that will be used for Metrics. I would like to create the Guid in C++ and then set it somehow during the BULK INSERT DICastRaw1hr and DICastRaw6hr. I am calling the BULK INSERT from C++/ADO. I do not see how you can set a static data in the BULK INSERT for a column that exists in the table but does not the source data ... seems there should be a way to do this with the format file?
The other way to do this is with a TRIGGER. I have the TRIGGER below. Prior to the calling the BULK INSERT using ADO I will use ADO to ALTER the TRIGGER with the new Guid. When the BULK INSERT runs the ProductInstanceId will be populated with the new Guid.

- The Trigger is slow. The Bulk Insert without the Trigger runs in about 10 sec ... with the Trigger in about 40 sec. I tried to use the sql code below in the TRigger but it was only doing the UPDATE on the last row. The TRIGGER must run after the BULK INSERT is complete. Now I am using the select (bad). - I understand that I could set the Guid in the Default Value part of the table definition using the NEWID() function. I need the Guid to be the same for all the rows that are inserted during the BULK INSERT (all have the same modelrundatetime) ... how would I do this?
On my site users can register using ASP Membership Create user Wizard control. I am also using the wizard control to design a simple question and answer form that logged in users have access to. it has 2 questions including a text box for Q1 and dropdown list for Q2. Hi I am trying to export an table data to csv format. The problem here is the table columns are dynamic. The DTS exports only the columns available during the DTS design time and it ignores if any new columns are added after the design. I need solution for this asap. Thanks SqlJerin
I need to convert a SQL table or SQL table data to XML format. I tried using the Import Export Wizard in SQL 2005 (used SQLXMLOLEDB and SQLXMLOLEDB 4.0 as the source). However, it didn't work. Any way you know how I can convert and obtain data in XML format?
I uploaded custtable under the database, the data looks fine except that the name that apprears has a lot of distance e.g
it should be :
firstname lastname however the format appears very strange:
firstname lastname
firstname lastname
fistname lastname
Same is the case with the address, I need to adjust or format the apperance that appears on the cell. Is there a way/ sql statement to format the data under the table so that the apprearence looks okay.
I will really appreciate any sort of help on this one.
I have several bcp output files I need to import into tables. I do not have format files for them. As far as I know they are in native format. I do not know the layout of the destination table they would populate.
1) how can I determine from the bcp file itself the schema of the destination table? Once I know that I should be able to import the data into the table.
I have SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMS Express) and SQL Server 2005 Express (SS Express) installed in my Windows XP Pro PC that is on Microsoft Windows NT 4 LAN System. My Computer Administrator grants me the Administror Privilege to use my PC. I tried to use SQLQuery.sql (see the code below) to create a table "LabResults" and insert 20 data (values) into the table. I got Error Messages 102 and 156 when I did "Parse" or "Execute". This is my first time to apply the data type 'decimal' and the "VALUES" into the table. I do not know what is wrong with the 'decimal' and how to add the "VALUES": (1) Do I put the precision and scale of the decimal wrong? (2) Do I have to use "GO" after each "VALUES"? Please help and advise.

Hi, I am having 2 tables. One is main table and another is history table. Whenever I update the main table, I need to insert the all the main table data to History table, before updating the main table. Overall it is like storing the history of the table updation. I want to insert the data from temp table to other table. Only condition is, it needs to sorted based on tool number and tool date. For example if we have ten records for tool number 1000, it should be order by tool number and then based on tool_dt. Both tables doesn't have any primary keys. Please find below my code.
