I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Remote Network Connection - Error 26

I am converting over from MSDE to SQL Express. My front end program is unable to connect to the database. To troubleshoot, from the remote computer I tried connecting with the management program and I get the Error 26 unable to connect.

Here is what I have done: I made sure that the SQL Server configuration has been changed to allow network connections (both TCP and named pipes). I have disable windows firewall on both machines. I confirmed that I can connect from the remote machined to the server by network browsing. Both machines are running XP Proff. There is no other security software running on either machine.

More Info. when attempting to log on I am using the server authntication, I use "sa" as the user id plus my password.

Goal. The front end of database program connects to the server remotely using a program called Hamachi over the internet. This works without a problem on MSDE. But for now I am simply try to connect using the managment program which lets you browse for other serves. When I do this it shows the remote computer, but not the name of the computer but not the SQL server which I type in like the following: "INTELsql1"

What I have not Done: I have not changed any permissions or added any users to the server, since this does not seem necessary. As stated the user of remote machine can connect to the server and change files.

Would appreciate any suggestions or tips. Thanks.

How To Get A Remote Connection To SQL Server Express From VB 2005 Express In A Network PC That Is Granted For Administrator Use

Hi all,

I have SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed in a Microsoft Windows XP Pro PC that is a terminal PC in our office Network. My Network Administrator has granted my terminal PC for Administrator Use. I tried to do the ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my terminal PC and I could not get a remote connection in the Window Form Application via Window Authorization. I do not know how to make this kind of remote connection in my Network. Please help and advise.

Remote(over A Network) Database Connection Issue

This has to be an easy question.

WORK2 - My workstation (xp pro)
WORK3 - Location of SQL Express 2005

WORK3COMPANY
sa,password

WORK3 is a XPPro, both WORK2 and 3 have full admin rights to their machines and the network, I am using SQL Authentication (sa, password)
I have used the SQL Server Config app to enable the 4 Protocols, then restarted service. I can connect locally to my database via "SQL Server Management Studio Express", and through my VB application. I have checked "allow remote connections" in the database properties.
I do not know what i am missing? any thoughts?

Dropped Network Connection Breaks Connection To Local SQL Server

Let me set the stage of my testbed configuration: On Windows XP SP2, my default connection to the Internet is via wireless express card modem using EV-DO via Verizon Wireless. Let's call this connection A. I also have a traditional wireless network connection (802.11g) that is always enabled. Let's call this connection B. Connection A is always connected during normal business hours. Connection B is not and is often searching for a wireless network to connect to when nothing is in range.

Yesterday, connection B was continuously trying to connect to a wireless network not under my control, meaning that the connection was never established and notification messages continually popped up to complain of this fact. Over time, I've learned to ignore these messages and go on doing my daily work without much thought of the possible implications.

Then, things started to get odd. I was running our application, WebWatchBot, to perform some simple tests of various websites and servers, when I started to get messages from the application that database connectivity was lost, which is a message that pops up to inform the user that the connection is forcibly dropped by SQL Server. After a few moments, the connection to the database was re-established and the message went away. Since I was actually working with SQL Server, I thought it was an anomoly, so I continued on. Then, it happened again. And again. Then, I noticed that the "database connectivity lost" message started to coincide with the wireless connection's (connection B) inability to connect with a wireless network.

Why would this be happening? The database and application are on the same exact computer. The connection to the database is via ODBC drivers over tcp/ip, but why would connection B affect this?

A Newly Placed ISA Server (2006) Is Not Allowing My IP Phones Register To A Remote Proxy Server Outside My Network

Hi all,

I am having seriuos problems getting VoIP traffic into and out of my network via the ISA server which we just newly installed.

My network topology is such that the phones i am using for the VoIP service, sitting inside my network and behind the ISA server, have to register to some remote proxy server outside my network and as soon as it registers i can begin using the service. The VoIP service is on the platform of SIP and uses udp ports 5060 and 8080.

I have permitted the necessary ports on the ISA server for the service being UDP port 5060 and 8080 but still cannot get my VoIp traffic through the server.

Please i need some help here as regards something i am supposed to do or something i am not doing right on the ISA server to permit my traffic.

I am a newbie to this Microsoft ISA server and i hope you all understand

Remote Connect To SQL Server 2005 At Home From Private/office Network

I'm green on this networking stuff so any help is greatly appreciated.

I have setup my home computer as a server and assigned a static IP to it. I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer and allowed remote connections to it through the Surface Area Config tool, added port 1433 TCP and 1434 UDP to firewall's exception list, and started the SQL Server Browser service.

Now I can't seem to remote connect to this SQL Server from my office network. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC.
1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.

SQL Server Losing Connection When Connection From A Remote Server

Hi

I have two machines, the one has Windows 2003 server and the other has Windows Xp Pro on.

The 2003 one has SQL Standard Edition 2000 on where as the XP Pro has MSDE 2000.

I'm trying to run a windows based app from the 2003 server and it connects to a database on the XP Pro PC.

When running the application i keep getting the following exception:

"A Transport-Level error has occured when sending the request to the server (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available)

After using Preformance monitor on the XP machine it seems that when the app starts and the user logins in it make a SQL connection but then the connection is lost then the exception pops up. then i click continue and try it again then it works, then a couple of secs when using the system it pops up again. The Performance Monitor Test shows that the SQL connection keep being lost. The network is fine. its has something to do with SQL and Named Pipes and stuff.

When running the app on the Xp machine and the Connection is made to the 2003 machine there is no problem.

There are other connection made to the Windows XP Machine but i doubt that it affects the app.

The Windows firewall is off as well.

SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition - Distribution Agent Dieing When Network Connection Fails

We have replication setup on a sql server 2000. We encountered issue that the distribution agent goes down (distrib.exe stop running) in the event of network connection broken. We would like to know:

is this the expected result that the distribution agent will go down in the event of communication failure between the distribution server and subscriber server?
if not, is there a way to programmatically control and restart the agent?
Is there any sp in SQL server which can monitor the replication communication error message?
is there any sp in SQL server which can be run to restart the agent?
For the best practice, what do you think we can do to achieve an ��event-driven�� kind of mechanism so when an communication breaks, the agent can be restarted by the triggered event (or at least a simple way to automatically restart)?

ODBC Connection For Client Application To SQL Server 2005 Express Installed On Network Computer

Hi All,

I've developed an application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 Express database. I created a DSN to connect to the database through ODBC. Currently, I am testing locally and everything works fine.

I would now like to install my application on another workstation and connect remotely to the database located on my development machine.

The client workstation does not have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on it because I would just like my application to connect remotely by creating the DSN and using ODBC. What I'm missing here are the database drivers. The "SQL Natice Client" is not available on this client workstation. How can I deploy the necessary drivers with my installation file so that I may create the required DSN name using the SQL Native Client driver?

I have an SSIS package which accesses a map UNC path drive. It works fine when I run SSIS from Visual Studio. However, when I run this from a SQL Server job, it gives an error.

I am not allowed to use xp_cmdshell due to security reasons. If someone can point me to right direction, that would be greatly appricated.

DSN Connection To Remote SQL Server

I've worked with SQL Server plenty but never in this specific manner. Hoping someone can shed some light.I have a webform on web server A that needs to talk to a SQL server database that web server B accesses via its web application. I do not haveany privelidged access to server B or the sql server it uses (no FTP to webserver, no remote access via Enterprise Manager to the SQL server). The Admin of Server B told me that I can use a DSN connection to talk to the SQL server database that the web app on server B uses. My Sql server is on another machine and I am unable to connect because ASPNET is a local account. Remote Connection To The Server?

Hi,

Just want to know what I need to check to make sure the remote connection is configure properly other than "Enable the remote connection" for the server? what ports that need to open up if firewall is running on the Server Machine?

I tested with a remote user, it seems the application just hung there and wait.. wait.. it seems something block the connection.

No error message, If I ping from the remote PC to the server, the response time is in acceptable range.

i added 2 databases to my SQL server on a machine next door using Microsoft SQL server management studio express... I made sure that the server allows remote connection

then from this computer i pass a connection string to my SQLCLient in VB2005 that looks a bit like this

I am developing a web application using C# and SQL Server 2000. It works fine when the Application and DB are in same machine. Now I want to connect to the DB located in another machine in the same network.
I used the connection string as follows.
"Data Source=ip add,1433; user id=uid; password=pwd;"

"Data Source=machine name; user id=uid; password=pwd;"

but the appliation always throws the error:

Backup From A Remote Machine Over The Network.

Hi all,

I have scheduled a backup on a remote machine. Everyday I FTP these backups from the remote machine to the local drive.

A local drive is maped to the remote machine in Windows NT Explorer but SQLSERVER7 Enterprise Manager can't see this drive so that I could do the backup to it.

Can any one please tell me how to make this work?

My project when hosted in a machine its working, but in case of some other machine it is throwing the following error

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)I have turned off my firewall and network configuration for sql server and its also done as tcp/ip and named pipes…though it is not working …
The surprise is if I run using IDE its running , in the same machine after hosting it is not running, where the db is in another machine. What could be the problem? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Regards,Naveen

This has basically been take from the existing code on the website, but changing to the server details. I had just started dev'ing this app when the admins decided to move the SQL server over to a different server. It was working on the old one, but the new one doesn't. It just times out after whatever time you put in the timeout variable. 0=unlimited, and so just sits there.I am also using the MSSQL Server Management Studio locally to connect to the same database, and although slow, does connect after about a minute or so. I thought they would be using the same type of underlying connection to access the server and database? Is this correct?
Can they put restrictions in place for this specific sort of data access?Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue??Thanks for any helpAdam.

Connection To Database On A Remote Server

Here is my environment and problem:
I have VWD 2005 and SSE 2005 installed on my local machine. I also have these installed on my Windows 2003 Server. I developed my database using SSE on my local machine but pointing to directory on my server. I have been developing the web app using VWD on my server. I now want to use VWD on my local machine and point to the project on my server. I am able to open the project. In order to access the database in the "Database Explorer" I use as my "Data Source", "MS SQL Server (SQL Client) and it attaches fine and I can see my tables and data.
Now for my problem:
When I try to run the application "VIew in Browser", which login.aspx page is my first page, I get the page, but it doesn't inherit my master page which has the basic navigation and layout. Then after I try to login I get this message.
The file "W:BBAppApp_DataTimeTracker.mdf" is on a network path that is not supported for database files.An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file W:BBAppApp_DataTimeTracker.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
Here is a portion of my web.config file for the connection string.<connectionStrings>
