I have a column defined as smalldatetime. Default length (4), and "allow NULLS" is checked.In the Enterprise Manager UI, when i enter data into that table row, if i just tab past that column, all is well, and the value is represented in the UI as <NULL>.The problem comes once i ever enter a date into that column. Say i have entered a date (all is well), and now i want to remove that entry and go back to NULL (after the date value has been committed, different entry session, say).How is that done?It seems to me, once a date has ever been entered into that column, now, if i try to remove it, i get the error "The value you entered is not consistant with the data type or length of the column, or over grid buffer limit". I have tried deleting the value, entering spaces, entering the string NULL or the string <NULL>; maybe some other tries as well, but none works, i always get that error message and am not allowed to proceed past that cell until i restore a date value to it. I want to get back to <NULL>.Anybody know?Thank you.Tom
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a SQL Agent job that runs at 4:15 in the morning. The job has 5 steps, each step only runs if the preceding step succeeds. The second step, which calls an SSIS package that does the main processing, appears to finish as it goes on to the next step; however, when looking in 'View History' there are 2 entries for this step - the first one shows it as still running (Circled Green Arrow) but with a start and end time. The second entry says the job succeeded.
I have been seeing conflicts, such as deadlocks, with later jobs. I suspect this job is causing the conflicts - maybe the package is still running in the background instead of having actually completed?
what conditions a job step my be showing in the job history as both running AND completed successfully?

Since SQL 2005 Express doesn't appear to let you paste multiple lines of data into a cell -- a task as "basic" as the Commodore 64 -- I'm forced to enter the data for 2 records directly. I'm trying to insert line breaks, which SQL 2000 allowed you to do by simply pressing the Enter key. However, 2005 just moves you to another record. How do I do this extremely simple task?

I need to run a replace on a varbinary field but I am unsure how. I have tried mulitple different methods and to no avail. I am stumped.
I have attached a zip folder that contains a spreadsheet that shows what I am trying to do. In the first tab it shows the SQL command I use to call the field I want to change. In this case it's the Content field and I am calling it using the content_key. As you can tell the content is stored as varbinary. In the second sheet, It shows this varbinary being converted to varchar(max) and it shows what the actual text says.
The table that this information is stored is is called digitalassetcontent

Is it possible to replace a string value that uses a wildcard? For example, I'm trying to update a field on a table and replace the field value where it starts with a specific two character pattern and remove it from the string. The field is a delimited string and I want to replace any occurrence of ;A0% or ;A0* with a null value. I don't want to replace the entire field with a null value.

Sometimes there are auditing columns like DateCreated, and CreatedBy,
I know it can be made as default. for DateCreated to be sysdatetime, and createdby to be system user.
But I just curious to know if there is a way to manually enter today's date and the user in the cell?
I have a text field that contains multiple words. Is there a way with SQL to relace a single word with another?
for example:

I created one blank ADP to connect default tempdb database on MSDE on server ASHFAQUEPC (name of my msde server). Tested the connection was successful.
I created a table called Testtable from command prompt (MSSQL/Binn) in default tempdb of MSDE using following lines:
…Binn>osql/U sa mypassword
1> use tempdb

1> Create table Testtable (Cnum integer NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, City Varchar(15))
1> go
Table Created successfully then I added 2-3 records using following lines;
1> INSERT INTO testable (cnum, city)
1> values (1, ‘abc’)

1 Record affected and I did same to add 2-3 more records. Then I used following lines to see all the records I entered.
1> select * from testable
1> go
And a list of records displayed at command prompt. After exit from command prompt I found a ‘Testtable’ appeared in the above ADP.
But next day when I opened my pc and opened ADP, I did not found the Testtable even though I re-connected to tempdb on MSDE from File menu. I reached then to command prompt to see whether the table itself is existing. Strange it was not there.
Can somebody tell me how can I get connected to testable automatically when I open my ADP? Where might have gone wrong? Do I need to create table again and input records?
I want to make sure before I do anything with my real dbs.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

I have a simple text box in a table in the body of a report. This renders fine via IE on both my dev box and the client.
However when rendered within a Reportviewer control on the client, the box show the text followed by lots of black squares. Running the app on my dev box is also fine - no black boxes at all.
The report resides on the server, and the server is fully patched.
Any ideas greatly appreciated!
I found it rather hard to replace a string in an NTEXT field in sql server 2000. Would it be easier in SSIS 2005? Please advise. Thanks.

This is so simple, but I can't get it to work. I created a grouping on the name field so that all entries for a particular person are on their own page. I break out perfectly so each one is a page for where I should get rows for that one person I only get one. On no page do I see more than one row. The data is not being summarized so that does not explain it.

Sp_changeobjectowner is not working on this to change the owner name to dbo.I am still able to create another table with same name under dbo.But I want to get rid of the table which has no ownername. I am trying to replace names found in 'xml' field name as hyperlinks, by matching with the names in database_tags.I am using the following function below, however the UDF is only recognizing one name from the XML fieldname data, instead of all the names present in the XML data.

Have a nvarchar column in ms sql that, based on user input, may or may not have a carriage return and a line break together (CHR(13)&CHR(10)), just a carriage return (CHR(13)), just a line break (CHR(10)). Can I create a new table that shows only the distinct names, and use it to work with the data?
