I'm new to store procedure in slq 2000.
I want to create a sproc in my sql 2000 sevrer,I have a table named "Supplier",
now I want to return my identiy field value when I use insert into sql command (insert into "Supplier") successful.
So how to create this store procedure ?

I'm running a pretty standard insert command on a button (myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();)
I have a few other methods that run, but I only want them to proceed if the above was inserted successfully, how would i check that?
I would like to use ADO in a new project but I need to find out how to return the identity field value to ADO out of a stored procedure. I have not done alot with ADO or with SQL 7.0 so if anyone has an example of the SQL and the ADO code that I would need I would greatly appriate it.

This is my first project in ASP.NET, MS Visual Web Developer 2005 Express and SQL Server 2005 Express. I have relatively little experience, so please bare with me.
I have managed to create a form that inserts data into a table and then inserts the Automatically Created Primary Key(as a foreign key) in another table. This project is an Asset Management System and will be used by no more than a handful of users. My Concern is the use of the @@IDENTITY (As it only stores the last Key used). Should I be using it here? If there is more than one user inserting into tables (Chances of this happening are very low), will the correct Primary key be insert to the table in the above code?Thank you for your comments.
I'm having a problem I do an insert into a table but I want to return the value of the identity field of that insert so I can email a confirmation. For some reason this code doesn't work.

I wish to have a batch file exit with a return code of 3 if it fails.
In the batch file I have the single command: Exit 3
On SQL Server the Process Exit Code of a successful command is set to 0.
Yet, when I run the job SQL Server says that it is successful.
I have code that has worked just fine for some time, and now all of the sudden I am having an issue. I have a simple INSERT statement built and then make the following call:
RecordID = cmd.ExecuteScalar
I have never had a problem with this before. The RecordID of the newly inserted record is returned into the RecordID Integer varibale. All of the sudden, the varibale has a value of 0 (null I assume is being returned), but yet the INSERT worked just fine. I can check the table in SQL and it is populated with no issues.
No exception is thrown of any type or anything. Does anybody know what may be happening?

.I wanted to INSERT a record in a parent table, get the Identity back and use it in a child table. Seems simple.
To my knowledge, mine would be the only process running that would update these tables. I was told that there is no guarantee, because the OLEDB provider could write the second destination row before the first, that the proper parent-child relationship would be generated as expected. It was recommended that I create my own variable in memory to hold the Identity value and use that in my SSIS package.
1. A simple example SSIS .dts example illustrating the approach of using a variable for identity would be helpful.
2. Suppose I actually had two processes updating these tables, running at the same time. Then it seems the "variable" method will also have its problems. Is there a final solution other than locking the tables involved prior to updating them or doing something crazy like using a GUID for the primary key!
3. We have done the type of parent-child inserts I originally described from t-sql for years without any apparent problems. (Maybe we were just lucky.) Is the entire issue simply a t-sql one or does SSIS add a layer of complexity beyond t-sql that needs to be addressed?

I am also using the wizard control to design a simple question and answer form that logged in users have access to.
it has 2 questions including a text box for Q1 and dropdown list for Q2.

I have a stored procedure where I am passing in several strings which are concatenated to form an Insert SQL statement. I then return the identity value from the insert - problem is, the identity value is coming back NULL.

We're using ASPUpload as a tool to upload files to our server and savethe details to SQLServer. However, I have an application where I needto return the pkID of the just saved file. When I try use:

then I'm getting a error message: @OldID not declare.

I'm quite stuck with this:I have an import table called ReferenceMatchingImport which containsdata that has been sucked from a data submission. The contents ofthis table have to be imported into another table ExternalReferencewhich has various foreign keys.This is simple but one of these keys says that the value inExternalReference.CompanyRef must be in the CompanyReference table.Of course if this is an initial import then it will not be so as partof my script I must insert a new row into CompanyReference andpopulate ExternalReference.CompanyRef with the identity column of thistable.I thought a good idea would be to use an SP which inserts a new rowand returns @@Identity as the value to insert. However this doesn'twork as far as I can tell. Is there a approved way to perform thissort of opperation? Hello,
I'm just learning SSIS and I've hit my first bump. I am doing a bulk import from a tab delimited text file to an empty sql table that has a Idendity column defined. How do I tell the bulk insert task to skip that column when inserting from the text file. If I remove the identity column it imports the data fine, but I want to create the indentity column in the table too.

after i have inserted a row into the DB i am trying to get the last identity like this :

I have a table that I am trying to insert into with data from another
table. Here is that Query:
INSERT INTO item (identifier, name, customlgtxt1, weight,mainprice,
customnumber3, customnumber4)
Select partno, name, description, weight,price, qtyprice, qty
From Import2
This seems to work fine.
My dilemma has to do with an 'id' column in that item table. This is
incrementally updated by one..ie Natural Key. I have set it to
Identity and used Set @@IDENTITY AS 'id'...worked like a charm. But
for reasons that have to do with a front end admin tool used by the
home office I can't set this column to have an Indentity property.
Screws up the insert done with the admin tool.
This is a item/price database by the way. Name of item, price,
description, qty price..etc.
So I've tried to put this trigger on the item table

But the Insert Into statement (see above) will not work...giving the
error
"Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'id', table
'new_Catalog1v1.dbo.item"
Which I know...that's why I set it to Identity..but that cannot be.
So the question is how to set an autonumber (or natural key or I'm not
sure of the name) that updated from the max(id)table when inserting from another table.
And then...one more.
I have to update a table named UNIQUEIDS with the lastest value of the
id column (max(ID))..UNIQUEIDS keeps track of the latest value inserted
into the id column for a number of tables. Here is another trigger I
put on the item table to update the UNIQUEIDS table.
create trigger upUniqueIds_item on [dbo].[item]
for update,Insert, delete

Update uniqueids

But of course this doesn't work if I can't set the columns to
IDENTITY.
I hope someone can help and I hope my explanation had made sense.
Need to increment the id field using max(id) and update another table with the last imported value of max(id). One occurs during insert..another after the insert..i think?
