I have a script task that worked FINE yesterday. Now when I run it, I get the following error:
[myTask [64]] Error: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.HandleUserException(Exception e) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.ProcessInput(Int32 inputID, PipelineBuffer buffer) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostProcessInput(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Int32 inputID, IDTSBuffer90 pDTSBuffer, IntPtr bufferWirePacket)
I have an integration services script that was working ok until a recent database upgrade. When I run the script in gui debug mode it behaves as follows. The data flow reads in data from an oracle server table VALNREQ & then uses it to populate a sqlserver table (with a little manipulation of the fields in between). For some reason although it populates the destination table with the correct number of rows (& the data looks ok) it errors out with the messages listed below. The DataReader Source dataflow source box turns red & all the other boxes turn green including the destination one. I have run out of ideas ... any suggestions? Have I inadvertently changed a property without noticing? I can't see anything obvious & the input data itself looks clean enough.
Any pointers in the right direction would be great, thanks. I've been thrown in at the deep end with this s/w so I imagine there are a number of large gaps in my knowledge so apologies if there is a simple solution to this.

I only found http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=389835&SiteID=17 regarding this error message and it was of no help to me.
Background: 3rd party program that extracts users from a AD group and manage user creation i a MSSQL 2000 server. Also sends e-mails using the SMTP service. The funny thing is that the program manages everything correctly, but writes an error in the Event log as it exists (below). Job is scheduled with the SQL server agent and runs with a doamin user that has local admin rights. We have the same setup on a testserver where it runs without problems.
Windows server 2003, MDAC 2.8, SQL Server 2000 SP3, .NET framework 2 on both servers.
I'm not a developer, so I'm pretty lost why it behaves like this on one server and not the other. Checked Aspnet.config-file and they are the same. Found this
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=911816
that described that the exception handling was different between the .NET-versions, but since this works on one of the servers, it shouldn't be related, or could it? Tried changing the setting in method 2, but with the same behaviour. Any ideas?
Hello, I have a 'ForEach Loop Container' that does a select from a table and I use Variable Mappings to map each row set result to Package Variables in SSIS. This works fine. However, in the Data Flow, I have a Script component in which I need to access the values of those variables that have been set in the ForEach Loop Container. How do I do this?
Perhaps I'm on the wrong track but I guess I need to access the ADO Object Source variable set in the ForEach Loop Container? Through my own experimentation, I know that accessing the VariableDispenser collection only returns whatever default values that happen to be assigned to the variables in the SSIS GUI (not the values assigned during each iteration of the ForEach Loop).
Does any one has any clue for this error ? I did went through a lot of articles on this error but none helped . I am working in Visual studie 2005 and trying to upload image in sql database through a simple form. Here is the code

Help! I have posted this before and I had hoped that the VS2005 SP1 would help my problem. It didn't. My code is shown below. I have dropped a sqlconnection, sqldataadapter and a strongly-typed dataset from the toolbox onto the component designer for my page and written my code. It compiles without any errors but at runtine I receive the system error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The error occurs at the first line where the sqldataadapter is mentioned. I have shufflled the code and the error still occurs at first mention of the dataadapter. I have set parameters to a simple string such as "myemail." It hasn't helped. I have used the "Dim" statement as "Dim DaAuthorLogin as System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataadapter and Dim DaAuthorLogin as New ......) at the start of the private sub generated by the event requiring the data. Nothing helps. Here is my simple code to select data from a sqlserver 2000 database. Why do I continue to get this error? I am trying to develop a custom algorithm. I have implemented and tested training methods, however I fail at prediction phase. When I try to run a prediction query against a model created with my algorithm I get:
Executing the query ... Obtained object of type: Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdDataReader COM error: COM error: DMPluginWrapper; Object reference not set to an instance of an object.. Execution complete
I know this is not very descriptive, but I have seen that algorith doesn't even executes my Predict(..) function (I can test this by logging to a text file) So the problem is this, when I run prediction query DMPluginWrapper gives exception -I think- even before calling my custom method.
As I said it is not a very descriptive message but I hope I have hit a general issue.
Just installed VS 2005 & SQLServer 2005 clients on my workstation. When trying to create a new Integration Services Project and start work in the designer receive the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' dialog box with message "Creating project 'Integration Services project1'...project creation failed."
Previously I had SQLServer 2000 client with the little VS tool that came with it installed. Uninstalled these prior to installing the 2005 tools (VS and SQLServer).
I'm not finding any information on corrective action for this error.
I am trying to execute this code feom Script task while excuting its giving me error that "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The assemblies Iam referening in this code are there in GAC. Any idea abt this.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why i'm getting the "Object Refence Not Set To an Instance of An Object" error after I try and create a Report Services project in Business Intelligence Studio. I've followed all of the steps in similar posts such as checking the ReportServer/web.config file but everything checks out.
Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can get rid of this annoying error and start creating some reports?

I call the datareader using a sqlCommand that I programmatically build and it accesses the database fine. I can use the exact SQL command that I generate and I can get a result when i run it in SQL Management Studio. When I run the application and try to access the datareader, it throws an exception whose message is quite frustratingly, <column name>, or in this case "image_URL". Anyone have any idea what might be causing such an ambiguous error?
I have a problem with DataReaderSource. I'm trying to get data from Notes table. I created a Connection manager and the connection was successful. The SQLCommand in "Component properties" tab is a simple "select * from <table_name>". When I switch to the "Column mappings" tab, only the first column from the table is displayed. Pressing the "Reftesh" button resulst in the following error: Error at Data Flow Task {DTS.Pipeline]: The "output column <column_name> has a length that is not valid. The length must be between 0 and 4000. When I go to the "Input and Output Properties" tab, the DataType for the output column is not populated and the error message "Error in Data Flow Task [DTS.Pipeline]: The output column <column_name> had an invalid datatype (0) set." The DataType property is not populated at all. Changing the data type to DT_STR results in error: "Property value is not valid". I read on a previous post to explicitly convert field , and tried to explicitly covnert the dataype on the field in my query (ex. select convert(varchar(50) from fieldname)
It then gives foll err:

I get an error at the end of a 47 million row job when I use the datareader source. It goes through all the records and then the package fails. The error (DataReader Source [1]] Error: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ) occurs at the datareader source. I suspect it's because my record set returns a null value at some point. Any ideas?
Hello, I get the following error when I run my package interactively. From the logs written out by the driver, it appears that all is working well as far as connecting to the data source and pulling data. It seems as if this error occurs when the DataReader source tries to process the received data.

Hi, I am trying to import data from Oracle RDB into SQL Server 2005 using SSIS. Created a ODBC data source to connect to Oracle and used DataReader Source component and ADO.net to connect to the ODBC data source.
Under the Component properties tab, the SQL Command looks something like this.
Select ID, ADDRESS, REVISED from ADDRESS
The data type for the source columns are Integer, Varchar(30) and DATE VMS.
Now when I look at the Input and Output properties window,
The External columns has the following data types.
ID - four-byte signed integer [DT_I4] ADDRESS - Unicode string [DT_WSTR], length = 0 REVISED - database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP]
The Output columns has the following data types
ID - four-byte signed integer [DT_I4] ADDRESS - Unicode string [DT_WSTR], length = 0 REVISED - database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP]
When I tried to change the length of the ADDRESS on the output column, I get the following error.
Error at Data Flow Task [DataReader Source [1]]: The data type of output columns on the component "DataReader Source" (1) cannot be changed.
Is this the default length for the Unicode string type. I was not able to load the ADDRESS column as it gets truncated before I load it into destination. Even if I use Derived or Data Conversion transformation, the ADDRESS is getting truncated before it reaches this transformation.
Attempting to create a data flow task to copy data from AS/400 (DB2) to SQL2005, using an existing System DSN ODBC connection defined on the SQL2005 host.
Problem:
When adding the DataReader Source component to the package, I cannot assign the Connection Manager. Designer issues the error message:
"The runtime connection manager with the ID "" cannot be found. Verify that the connection manager collection has a connection manager with that ID."
Editing the DataReaderSrc component shows only one row under the Connection Managers tab:
The datareadersrc component editor displays the warning message: "Not all connection managers have been set. Set all connection managers.". Clicking the Refresh button causes the error message to be displayed "The runtime connection manager with the ID "" cannot be found. Verify that the connection manager collection has a connection manager with that ID."
I am prevented from assigning my Connection Manager object the DataReaderSrc.
The package already contains one Connect Manager object:

I have migrated an existing ASP.net 1.1 application into ASP.net 2.0. After correcting the reported errors and warnings the application builds without any errors. I have a login page for users (AuthorLogin.aspx) that receives input from the user and checks the database to determine if the user is valid. If the user is in the database they are directed to a navigation page. The SqlDataAdapter used to access the SQL 2000 database causes the above error when I try to pass parameters to it using the input by the user. The dataadapter was added on the using the component designer for the AuthorLogin.aspx page. The parameters are the user's email address and a password. The dataadapter fills a dataset. If the dataset's rows are >0 then the user is redirected. The dataadapter and dataset are declare on the.vb code behind page as "protected with events...." Here is the code I am using. Public Sub AuthorLoginValidate() 'use the email and password text values as parameters DA_AuthorLogin.SelectCommand.Parameters.Item("@AuthorEmail").Value = AuthorLoginEmail.Text DA_AuthorLogin.SelectCommand.Parameters.Item("@AuthorPassword").Value = AuthorLoginPassword.Text MDData.Open() DA_AuthorLogin.Fill(DS_AuthorLogin, "T_Author") MDData.Close() 'if the database has an existing record then add session objects and redirect If DS_AuthorLogin.T_Author.Rows.Count > 0 Then Session.Add("AuthorAlias", DS_AuthorLogin.T_Author.Rows(0).Item("AuthorAlias")) Session.Add("PreferredName", DS_AuthorLogin.T_Author.Rows(0).Item("PreferredName")) Session.Add("LastName", DS_AuthorLogin.T_Author.Rows(0).Item("LastName")) Response.Redirect("AuthorPaths.aspx") Else : AuthorLoginNotValid.Visible = True Exit Sub End If End Sub Steps I have taken.
Reordered the parameters. Whichever parameter occurs first in the code throws the error Set the parameters to a string instead of the user's input. The error still occurs. Previewed the data to make sure the dataadapter and dataset are working correctly. They are. Double-clicked the dataadapter and dataset to determine if the .vb code page will open with a new sub for the dataadapter or datatable. It does. Declared the dataadapter explicitly at the beginning of the code. "Dim DA_AuthorLogin as new system.data.sqlclient......... You get the idea. This causes a warning that the dataadapter has not been assigned a value. I don't want to assign a value. I want to retrieve data. I have tried to use the datasource control but this seems designed specifically for the datagrid, datalist, etc and it must be assigned a value I have tried to use a dataset designed to use a datatableadapter and a datatable. This throws the same error. I found a MSDN KB article that said to register the adodb file in the configured assemblies. I ran this command line as stated. It did not help. This code worked well in my .net 1.1 application. I know other data adapters work in the application. Help please. What will work? I am about to go back to my .net 1.1 application and forget Visual Studio.net 2005 simply because I cannot access the data. Thanks, David
I have a data source that I access via odbc in a DataReader Source component in SSIS. I can access the data fine. However, I am having problems with certain fields that are numeric (specifically home prices ranging from 100,000.00 to 99,999,999.00). In the advanced editor for my data reader source under the input and output properties tab, in data reader output under the external columns and output columns, these fields for some reason default to numeric data types with a precision of 4 and a scale of zero, not large enough to hold the data that is coming in. This causes errors that make the data come in as null (after i specify to ignore the errors).
I can change the precision and scale to 18 and 4 in the external columns, but when I try to change the datatype, precision or scale in the output columns I get the following message:
Property Value is not valid.
The details are:
Error at Import DataReader Source: The data type of output columns on the component "DataReader Source" cannot be changed. Error at DataReader Source: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0xC020837D) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.DataReaderSourceAdapter.SetOutputColumnDataTypeProperties(Int32 iOutputID, Int32 iOutputColumnID, DataType eDataType, Int32 iLength, Int32 iPrecision, Int32 iScale, Int32 iCodePage) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostSetOutputColumnDataTypeProperties(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Int32 iOutputID, Int32 iOutputColumnID, DataType eDataType, Int32 iLength, Int32 iPrecision, Int32 iScale, Int32 iCodePage)
I've got code that on my own machine (visual studio .net 2003 and iis and sql server all exist on this box) works great. I display my test page, which loads a dropdownlist on page_load. This works great on my own machine.
When I move the code to our dev environment. Web server and database servers on separate boxes. I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when i try to open the connection to the database. I thought it had to do with permissions and I check all through sql server and everything looks great. I then thought it was the connection string. I still haven't ruled this out, but I wrote a quick vbscript app to attach to the database and try to pull a record. The vbscript worked fine. So, the code works fine on my computer, but not on the web server. The connection does work with vbscript, but through my asp.net web app I get the "object reference" error.
All code below...
ASP.NET webpage: private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) {
if( !IsPostBack ) { // Create a command object for the query string mySelectQuery = "select id from vw_abcd order by ID";
SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand(mySelectQuery,sqlConnection1); sqlConnection1.Open();
Connection string on my machine: workstation id=wXXXXXX01;packet size=4096;user id=testuser;password=testpass;integrated security=SSPI;data source=wXXXXXX01;persist security info=False;initial catalog=TestDB"/>
Connection string on web server: network library=DBMSSOCN;data source=xxx.xx.xxx.xxxinstance1;user id=testuser;password=testpass;initial catalog=TestDB
vbscript: Dim connConnection, rstresultset strConnectionString = "driver={Sql Server};server=xxx.xx.xxx.xxxinstance1;user id=testuser;password=testpass;database=TestDB"
Set connConnection = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
connConnection.Open strConnectionString Set rstresultset = createobject("ADODB.Recordset")
rstresultset.ActiveConnection = connConnection
rstresultset.Open "select id, comment from testtable", connConnection

as far as I know from docs and forum datareader is for .NET data in memory. So if a use a complex dataflow to build up some data and want to use this in other dataflow componens - could i use data datareader source in the fist dataflow and then use a datareader souce in the second dataflow do read the inmemoty data from fist transform to do fursther cals ?
how to pass in memory data from one dataflow to the next one (i do not want to rebuild the logic in each dataflow to build up data data ?
Is there a way to do this ? and is the datareader the proper component ? (because its the one and only inmemory i guess, utherwise i need to write to temp table and read from temp table in next step) (I have only found examples fro .NET VB or C# programms to read a datareader, but how to do this in SSIS directly in the next dataflow?
I am using vs 2010 to write my dtsx import scripts.I use a script component as a source to create a flat file destination file.Everything have been working fine,but then my development machine crashed and we have to install everything again.Now when i use the execute package utility to test my scripts i get the following error:
Error system.NullReferenceException: Object refrence not set to an instance reference.
In PreExecute section TextReader = new system.io.streamreader(" file name") In the CreateNewOutputRows: dim nextLine as string nextLine = textReader.ReadLine
[code]...
is there something which i did not install or what can be the error?
