How To Stop / Start Sql Server 2000 Using Management Studio

I have upgraded my local to sql server 2005, but still need to access the remote instance which is still at version 2008/8.0.
Enterprise Manager has been removed (by the SQL server 2005 installation)
Does anyone know how I can restart older version of SQL server instance (ie 2000/8.0) using SQL server Management Studio?
I don't have admin access on the server which the sql remote instance is hosted. Can get around it by asking the sys admin guy to do it for now but would prefer to continue to be able to do it myself.
SQL Server Configuration Manager can only manage SQL server 2005 versions - a nice little caveat!
Is there a way to stop/start remote services using 'net stop/start'? - without having to write code....
I'll continue to search for a solution, but if someon can point me in the right direction, I'd be most greatful.
I have a question about granting enough rights to allow a non admin user to start and stop a sql server service via the SQL Server Management Studio by right clicking on the server node.
I have changed the acl's of the SQL Server service security and gave the user rights to start and stop the service. This does allow them to connect remotly to the server using computer manager and they successifully start and stop the service. But, in SQL Server Management Studio the option still does not show up, unless he is a admin of the server.
Does anyone know what other security settings I need to address for the start and stop to show up when I right click on the server node?
I used to have both SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server Management Studio Express up running just fine until I installed (removed SQL 2005 Express) SQL Server 2005 for Developers and re-installed SQL Server Management Studio Express - now, SQL Server 2005 for Developers works, but I can not start SQL Server Management Studio Express? No error messages, simply nothing happens when I execute ssmsee.exe. Should I be using a different version of Studio?
I know this is a very minor gripe, but I cannot find any way to get SQL Server Management Studio to stop prompting me to save queries. I've poked through all the options without success, but it doesn't seem possible that they would have left this out.

My server was up and running but I'm having trouble creating a new datbase connection so was troubleshooting and maybe i did something i wasnt' suppose to :-( I still have the problem for creating a db connection and now my server doesn't want to start! Please helpppp!!!
Hello,I had SQL2000 server running fine on the windows 2003 box. I then installedSQL 2005 Express. They both worked together fine. I then uninstalled SQL2005 Express and installed SQL 2005 Server. But when I open SQL ServerManagement Studio, I can only connect to the SQL 2000 engine. In the Objectexplorer, it says v8.0.2039 (which I think is SQL 2000 Server, because I cansee the existing SQL 2000 databases).How can I get SQL Server Management Studio to 'see' the SQL 2005 databaseengine so I can create tables? I *think* its running because there is the'sqlservr.exe' process running, and during installation there is no issues.When I open SQL Server Management Studio, I choose 'Database Engine', thenmy local Servername with Windows Authentication. Can I use SQL 2005 Management Studio Express to manage my SQL Server 2000 dbs? Currently I have SQL Enterprise Manager Version 8.0 installed and was thinking I'd like to install and use SQL 2005 Management Studio Express instead. This doable?
I never noticed it before, but I am now using Management Studio to administer our sql databases and the issue became apparent. One of the databases located on a sql 2000 server, says "6.5 compatible", when viewed from Management Studio (but not from Enterprise Manager).
What are the step needed to upgrade the database? (I think I need to run the Sql 2005 Upgrade Advisor first, fix any errors found, then manually change compatibility mode (to 80) from the sql 2000 server where the database is located. )
I am trying to connect to another computer in my local network which has Windows XP installed. It has SQL server 2000. I get an error message 'Time out period elapsed' when i try to connect to SQL server 2000 thru SQL Server Management Studio Express' Please guide.
Is it just me, or are features missing in Management Studio? I mean, where is the "Export Objects" option when exporting data? Why is it so difficult to register a remote server? Why do the object views suck? And most important, why is the documentation the worst software documentation I have EVER SEEN?! Things that were easy in Enterprise Manager with Client Network Utility and Query Analyzer seem impossible, difficult, or maybe just hidden in Management Studio. If it is there, the documentation sure doesnt tell you how to find it. Please someone tell me that it's just me. Tell me that the features are there but Im not doing something right. Hi,My webhost (1and1) is running SQL Server 2000 and their web tool supports the import of .bak files. However, when I try to import my .bak files created in SQL Server Management Studio Express I get the following error:"The backed-up database has on-disk structure version 611. The server supports version 539 and cannot restore or upgrade this database. RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally."I have Googled this error and learnt that 2005 .bak files are not compatible with 2000 .bak files. I'm just wondering if there are any work arounds to this or alternative tools that I can create 2000 compatible .bak files from from 2000/2005 .mdf files.Thanks in advance.

I purchased SQL Server 2000 standard. Does the Management Studio a separate purhase? I saw a free download for SQL Server Management Studio Express but this is for SQL Express. Will this work on the SQL Server 2000?

I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason

I have quick question. Ihave a job which consists of 9 steps. 9th step is: Exec xp_cmdshell 'c:mssql.bat'. in this batch file I am stopping and starting SQL services using net stop and net start command. This job is running perfectly but it is not giving the job history when I right click the job and view job history I can't see anything where as if I check the checkbox for Show step details it showing first 8 steps information but it is not showing 9th step information. Even I checked the Sysjobhistory system table in MSDB it shows only 8 steps information. What is the reason....

I have a job scheduled, which needs to be periodically stopped and then restarted. After looking through various places I think the start method and stop method are the best bets?:rolleyes: But not really sure to be honest.

What is impact, if i stop and start Synchronization, for one subscription.
When i start, will it resync all tables by dropping and recreating at subscription.
On Publisher,  from Location Publiction,   right click on subscription,       select View Synchronization Status,  From here, stop and start
