for that i need to sync pda data (in xml format) with the remote database server(SQL) and vice versa.

I'm working on an application that will be running on two or more machines. Each machine is logging data to a local SQL Compact database. I would like to make these two computers sync the data with eachother, but I am unsure what the best method is to transfer data between machines in a table format. I think XML would work well, but there may be something easier, so I thought I'd ask. Do I want to use sockets to do this, or is there another type of connection that would work better?
All PCs will know the IP addresses of their peers. I forsee each PC having a server thread that is listening all the time. Each PC also has a client that checks to see if it can connect to the server on the other side. It then requests certain data, which the server part sends. Does this sound right?
The rest of the app is in Visual Basic 2008 Express.

I've stepped into a new environment and have never dealt with multiple data files on user databases only with Temp db.What would be the best way to get all my data files in sync. I have done this on databases that aren't that big in size or off in size by a lot. Here is what I have

I am just beginning development of a new app and I need a little advice onthe best way to go about doing something.The app is a project management tool for a construction company. Users inthe field will need to do remote updates both receiving and submitting databack to the main office. I can't just make it a live web app because theusers will have to be able to work off line and sync data later (presumablywith a VPN connection).What is the best way to go about this? I planned on using MSDE 2000 w/Accessfront end. I will install MSDE on each laptop but what is the safest/mostreliable way to sync only that information which pertains to a specific useralong with other general information.Any books that helpful with this specific issue? Any one have reusablemodules/code they'd be willing to send me?TIA,--Jake

Here is my problem: I'm trying to copy a few tables from an ODBC database located on a PC on my LAN to a SQL Server on a remote server.
To do this I have created a DTS package on the SQL Server which runs smoothly, copying the data as it should, but only as long as it copies the data from the ODBC database on my own computer where I have Enterprise Manager installed. The moment I try to copy data from another PC in the network where Enterprise Manager is not used to execute the DTS package the task fails to run.
I'm quite at a loss here and would very much appreciate a notch in the right direction. Perhabs some source or book which I may read to solve the problem.

does anybody know, is there any possible way to connect to database written in Natural ?? After evaluating everyday backups on that database all i can see is BCK data format. im trying to create datawarehouse running on sql server 2000 and gather all operational data from the systems that are working in my firm. I just managed to get data originating from Interbase and these with dbf and txt format . unfortunatelly my problem with bck data format is still open.
As you can see im a beginner with that issue so if anybody could help i would be very gratefull.
hi,i have an sql database on my server on the world wide web.i can make a connection to the database in visual web developer and all the tables etc are shown in the 'database explorer' of visual web developerwhen i make the query in visual web developer it does retrieve the data froom the remote server database when i 'test query'.... so looking great!the connection string in the webconfig file is left as the default when i run the prgram on my LOCAL HOST with the inbult server that comes with visual web developer it runs fine......so.....running on my local pc it will connect to the database on my www host server and does display the data from that database.i need to change the webconfig files path to the connection by default it is |DataDirectory|if i change this to the path i suspect is correct as this is the connection i use to the database C:Inetpubvhostsarcvillage.comhttpdocsApp_DataTestdatabase.mdfwhen i change the path in webconfig then it stops working on my localhost and the error when i ftp it to my host is:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed. any ideas?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen copying data to a remote SQL2K5 destination from a SQL2K5 source database, both using mixed sql server security mode, my job generates the following error:
[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Execution failed with the following error: "Cannot apply value null to property Login: Value cannot be null..".
This occurs after the destination database tables have been truncated and replacement data from the source would begin to copy.
The same process can be successfully completed from the Management studio with a simple data export process. However, when I run the saved package again from the BI interface, I get this error.
My search engine searches have yielded numerous hits of others having the same problem with one microsoft rep indicating it was a bug and would be resolved in sp1. I am working with sp1. Oddly, there is only mention of this in the forums. No KB article from MS addresses the problem and I do not see it addressed elsewhere at sqlservercentral.
It appears that others have switched to Integrated Security and resolved the problem. However, I do not have that option with a remotely hosted database.
Does anyone have any information concerning this problem?

we currently have a web server/db on-site and a similar backup machine across the country. we're using a pretty bad backup strategy. we zip up a backup file, thats done on the main server every night, then ftp over to the back up server then run a restore.
lately ive been having problems with the main server. i would like to have the machines sync'd up as close as possible.
ive searched the threads and noticed replication and log shipping to be the most practical, but im assuming most of the machines are on the same domain.
what would be my best bet for machines connected over the internet, no vpn?
also the db on the main machine get queried/inserts all day from 7am - 6:30pm

Scenario: In general user will take database backup from database server to local system. User perform some changes to his local database based on his requirement. Again user connects to database server and click on update, local database should update to server database by informing each record status to the user. ex: record 1 updated / call closed do you want to update?
Here local database is going to be Pocket pc database and server database is on SQLDatabase. Can any one suggest best way to implement this feature in Windows Pocket pc, c#. I would appreciate your reply.

We have development and production databases, when we change database schema in development database how can I synchronize it to production without creating data problems in production, is this possible in SQL2005? Or any external tool I can use?

Database A is a backend to a website anddatabase B is going to be used by a different department. Both thedatabases have certain data in common but it isn't stored in the sameformat. I can't just auto sync one with the other, the data (records) hasto be manipulated before updates between them can take place.So, what I need to do is convert certain data when A is updated and tranferthat to B and vice-versa, in real-time. One is in a public DMZwith full access to and from the internet, and one is behind acorporate firewall and the box can get out to the internet but cannotbe hit directly from the internet in. The two are on seperatenetworks and cannot be connected via lan. Is there a way for me tohave semi-real time data transfers between the two to keep bothservers identical? I have thought that the server behind the firewallcould initiate an XML session with my dmz sql server and processupdates, but I am unfamiliar with how it would know what has changedon the remote server and how the remote server would know what haschanged on the server behind the corporate firewall. I have a software written in C#, using RDA to sync access database from desktop. But it is tricky that some time during "Pull" data from SQL Server Agent, my PDA tell me "A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT".
This also happening when I try to unplug the ethernet cable from my desktop however the push and pull actions did not required to go through internet.

I have 3 SQL databases: A, B and C. A and B are branch databases while C is the central (HQ) database. A & B will be constantly updated while C will updated occasionally and usually will be used for reporting/data browsing. Even though A & B are from different branch, they do have share some data records.
Every day, I will have to sync A & B's new/updated data to C and C to A/B. I know I can use Replication but I can't. You see, A & B are located in our own branch server while C was hosted on a third-party server. The webserver provider for C would not allow me to do any Replication on C.
What other alternatives that I can use to synchronise all 3?
DTS? XML transfer? It looks as if I have no choice but to write my own sync scripts? :((
Anyone has encountered similar situations? Any recommended SQL Tool programs?

I'm working with a legacy database whose structure I cannot change. I'm building a web-based editor for one of the DB's tables. This table has a Primary Key called "Master_Idx" that is an Identity (autonumber) field.To start, I query the DB and populate a data table which is cached. This is used to "feed" the web form. Any additions, changes, and deletions are reflected in this cached table.The user then has the flexibility to press Save at any time, which ensures that the database is modified accordingly.Here's my question:When new records are added, I assign them a Master_Idx value, the first of which was calculated to be 1 + the Max(Master_Idx) value when the editing session started. But when I insert these records back into the database it's possible that another user might have also been doing similar editing (of different records from the same table), so there's no guarantee that the Master_Idx values in the data table will be identical to those in the DB. When I insert a record from the cached table back into the DB, what technique can I use to check what value was assigned to the Master_Idx? If it's not the same as in the cached table then I need to update it locally in a few places.I hope all of this makes sense but if it doesn't then let me know and I'll explain it in another way.Robert W.

I have SQL Server 2000 and 2005 running on the same server. My current system is in SQL Server 2000 and the new system is in SQL Server 2005. My users will be using SQL Server 2000 for the most part, But for the part the processes that have been migrated to 2005, they will be using SQL Server 2005 as well. The database schema is different on both servers eventhough the data will be similar in most respects.
Is there is a way through which any data that is inserted/updated in SQL Server 2000 via content Management System/ manually/ via a batch job, the data is automatically populated in SQL Server 2005 tables or vice versa?
Please advice at the earliest.

One with MS SQL 2000 Standard edition and MSDE(MSdesktop engine).I need to sync my databases nightly, as a backup.Is there a cheap software that will do this? I don't want to justbackup the entire databases files b/c they are large and I'mtransfering them over DSL.I was thinking transaction logging, but I'm not sure. This error happened 1 week after I created the merge replication. The merge data cannot sync to subscriber and only solution I can use is drop and re-create the merge replication again but error would be re-occur a week later. The merge replication work fine before and start from middle on May 2015, but it keep happen right now.
