Mar 8, 2007I set up a task to do a transfer of a SQL 2000 db to SQL 2005 in Integration Services (selected my servers, dbs, and chose DatabaseOnline method). In debug mode it processes for a little while and finally errors with:

Error: The Execute method on the task returned error code 0x80131500 (An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement.). The Execute method must succeed, and indicate the result using an "out" parameter.

SSIS 2000 To 2005 Database Transfer Lost All Primary Keys, Identities And Indexes
Mar 25, 2008Hi everyone, I am trying to upgrade a 2000 DB to 2005 with SSIS Database Transfer.
I finally got it to work with an online transfer but the destination database has no primary keys, indexes or identity columns from the source DB.
What am I missing?
What other ways are there to upgrade a SS2000 DB to 2005?

Sql 2000 Copy To Sql 2005 Loses Identity Seeds In Transfer
Feb 3, 2006I have a database that I am trying to copy to sql server 2005 and when I copy it the "Identity Seed" property loses its value.
I have tried to use the "Export" method by right clicking on the database then going to "Tasks" then "Export Data"
This copies all of the data but it removes the "Identity Seed" value.
When I run the "copy database" function it will also copy all of the data in the database but it will still not keep the "Identity Seed" value
I have many tables in the database with the identity seed field set to 1 on the primary key so that it will automatically create the primary key for each record.
Without this errors will occur in my web application because it thinks that I am trying to enter a null value into the primary key when it is supposed to auto populate.
When I export it with sql server 2005 it turns it back to zero.
The export function worked fine in Sql server 2000
The only way I can get it to work is by backing up the database and restoring it, but this is very time consuming and adds many steps to the process, and also makes it so that I have to overwrite my old database with the same name.
Is there a way to use the export function or the copy database function to retain the Identity Seed value
I really need this to continue do the switch to 2005 server. It seems like this may be a bug of some sort
Have Transferred Database && Users From Sql 2000 To 2005 But How Do I Transfer Their Permissions ?
Aug 14, 2007We are currently running sql 2000 and are moving our database onto sql 2005 running on a different box.
We have managed to move the entire database, with users however the users permissions on specific tables/views/stored procedures have not been transferred, does anyone know a way of transferring user permissions rather then doing them all by hand?
The system is a large (over 500 table/views/stored procedures) and a very active one and therefore downtime is not optional.
any suggestions would be appreciated

May 8, 2008I have a legncy DTS package when upgrading to SQL 2005, I used "SQL Business Intelligence Development Studio" to create a project, the control flow is "Execute 2000 DTS Package", by right click "Execute Task" of the control flow, the color changed from yellow to red, the message said "package Execution completed". When I try to schedule this package in SQL Server Agent, the job failed. When I run dtexec, got following error message.

RUN SQL 2005 SSIS Package On SQL 2000 BOXES?
Aug 22, 2006I have a package designed and working correctly for months now. My challenge now is to run this package on a box that does not have SQL 2005 SSIS install. It has SQL 2000 installed.
My question is - Can I compile the SSIS into EXE or any other kind of DTS package to run on a none-SQL 2005 box?

Sep 10, 2007I would like to create an SSIS package in 2005 and run it in 2000. Is there anyway to do this? Or does SQL Server 2000 have a precursor to SSIS? I am trying to create a job to automatically catch and kill orphaned processes.

Help On Migrating From 2000 To 2005- SSIS Package

I have to create a migration package ..means package should migrate the sql server 2000 tables to 2005 tables (Not dealing with data at this point of time and ignoring SPs,DTS packages).But there are lot of normalisation ans schema changes in 2005 compared to 2000.Like,
- One 2000 table devided into 3-4 tables in 2005
- Lot of changes in the filed names
- Handling integrity relationship between the newversion tables
Being new to SSIS ,iam in confusion like how to start and where to start.can you pls tell me the steps(Structured way) i have to fallow
-- I have around 8-9 tables in 2000 ,I have to migrate them into 18-19 tables (with some new fileds )
-- For each table i have to create one package(bcoz lot of transformations are there) or I can create one package for all of those ? but the finally i have to handover one package to the client

Nov 7, 2007We are converted our DTS 2000 packages to Sql Server 2005 SSIS. I am getting following error on my ActiveX script that got converted. I am new to SSIS and DTS. Never ever worked with ActiveX also. So any help would be appreciated. Following is the script followed by error I get:

Migrating Scheduled SQL 2000 DTS Packages To SSIS 2005
Feb 13, 2008Below is a migration plan that I've compiled to migrate SQL 2000 DTS packages to SSIS 2005. Once these DTS packages have been migrated i will need to create a job and schedule them in SQL 2005.
I would appreciate and feedback or questions on this migration plan.
Migration DTS 2000 packages to SSIS 2005:
1. Will need to save the current production DTS package as structure storage file. We do not have a UDL file. We set the data connections within each DTS package.
2. Go to Sql 2005 - ManagementLegacyData Transformation Services - right-click and open previous saved structure storage file.
3. Modify the DTS data creditentials to reflect the SQL 2005 connection data. Modify any SQL 2000 MAPI settings to utilize SQL 2005 new database mail. Save the package on SQL 2005.
4. After the modified DTS package has been updated and saved on SQL 2005, save this file as a structure storage file.
5. go to BIDS. Create a new SSIS project. Right-click on SSIS packages and select Migrate DTS 2000 package. This will migrate over the DTS 2000 package with the updated SQL 2005 data creditentails.
6. click on the package properties - protectionlevel and change it to dontsavesensitive.
7. right-click and select package configurations..., select to store data creditentials in xml format.
8. right-click on execute DTS 2000 package task, select Edit... and click on Load DTS2000 package internally. This will embed this task into the new SSIS package. Test the package. Continue if successful.
9. Use SSIS deployment functionality to move the package over to SQL 2005 Integration Services. Right-click on package and select Run Package, if successful, create a job and schedule it to run on SQL 2005 Agent.
10. When creating the Job under SQL Agent, change the Owner: of the job to reflect the owner of the new SSIS package. Schedule the job.
I've just coming up to speed on SSIS 2005. Therefore, this is what i've been able to piece together up to this point and I'm looking for some industry advice/feedback on whether or not this is a good migration plan. I need to provide a migration plan to management by 2/18. Thanks

I am new to SQL Server 2000 and like to enquire the following.
Scenario:
this current website is hosted by A but now taken over by B.
B was given SQL server username and password and was instructed to download the database directly from A based on the username n pw given.
So my qns is:
Is it possible to initiate data transfer from one server situated at locationA to another server at locationB that doesnt belong to the same domain? If can, by which ways? Using the DTS method? Or there are some settings to be configure at ODBC in order to initiate the data transfer?

What Is The SSIS Transfer Task?
Aug 15, 2006I have just been using the Import Data wizard in SSMS and when going through the wizard I checked the "Optimize for many tables" checkbox.
The resultant package contains a task called "Transfer Task". I've never heard of this before. Its not listed in the toolbox and its not documented in BOL.
It does some rather strange things as well.
From what I can determine it uses an XML manifest file (stored in c:documents and settings<user>Local settings emp) to construct a SSIS package on the fly which is then executed by an Execute Package Task.
Its SourceDB property is always "smo_Pubs". Its DestinationDB property is always "smo_Pubs_xfred"
There's no UI for it
All very peculiar.
What is it?
Where has it come from?
Did it arrive with SP1 or have I just never noticed it before?
Why is it preferable to a package with lots of data-flows?
Why is it not documented?
When should I use it/not use it?
Questions questions questions...

SSIS Transfer Into Excel

To Transfer Maintaenance Plan And Jobs From SQL 7.0 To 2000
Apr 25, 2002We've upgraded our SQL7.0 user db to a SQL2000 system using sp_detach_db and sp_attach_db stored procedures.
And we'd like to transfer our sched jobs from a SQL 7.0 to SQL2000 systems,
if the jobs are created outside a maintenance plan, we can script them out and run the script to recreate them on the 2000 system.
But if the jobs are within a maintenance plan, we would have to recreate these plans manually on the 2000 system, is this the only option we have ?
Any one has a better solution ?
I think "restore msdb from abackup" should work better in this case?
In SQL2000, there is a new DTS task for transferring jobs between 2000 systems (same version), but I don't think it work to transfer them from 7.0 to 2000 ??

1) I am trying to use the Database of my host (hosting server of datapacket). They have a support for MS-SQL-2000. Therefore surely the server is there. After my CPanel configuration i got the Database Server IP (67.122.X.X), Port - 1433, SQL Server user and pasword.
2) In my local machine SQL Server 2000 is installed. Where the databse and DNS is configured.
Now, from this local machine how can i transfer the data to the host machine (remote SQL Server).
Simpliy copying Files *.MDG and *.LDf files it is not working. And i don't have access to the remote SQL-SERVER as it is in the host machine of datapacket. I can only configure it throuch there Control Panel and throuch FTP can copy the required files in there machine. I have a user in that remote MS-Sql server that all i have.
As per my understanding after the control panel configuration the database and the DNS is created in the remote Sql-Server of datapacket. Now all i have to do is transfer the data & tables. HOW TO DO THAT?????
I have tried using Export but it fails to connet the remote database.
