Https && Setting ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback

Jan 22, 2006

Hi,

In my CLR stored procedure, I made a https request. To by pass the security check, I change the property of ServicePointManager: ServerCertificateValidationCallback . But SQL server 2005 does not allow me to do this and gives me exception related to security.

It seems the CLR assembly does not have permission to set the property of ServicePointManager: ServerCertificateValidationCallback.

What kind of user should I use to run this stored procedure?

I already assign external_resource to the assembly in SQL server 2005.

The code:

ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback = new RemoteCertificateValidationCallback(myCertificateValidation);

public bool myCertificateValidation(Object sender,
X509Certificate cert,
X509Chain chain,
SslPolicyErrors Errors)
{ return true; };

thanks,

Guangming

Cannot Print From ReportViewer When Using HTTPS

Nov 1, 2007

Hi,

We are using the ReportViewer web control (SSRS 2005) to render server reports on a webpage that is exposed over the internet. Clients connect using HTTPS, however they are connecting to an ISA server which forwards the requests to the website using plain HTTP.

Reports are shown correctly, however when the user clicks the print button, the request to the web server is sent using HTTP not HTTPS and the ISA server is not allowed to accept incoming HTTP traffic. The result is that reports cannot be printed. We have proven that the reports do print if we manually alter the request to use HTTPS, so there is definitely no problem with our printers.

The problem is that we cannot work out how we can get the print request to be automatically sent using HTTPS.

We had a similar problem when we implented ReportBuilder, but we got around this by specifying HTTPS in the ReportServerExternalUrl tag in the RSWebApplication.config file. Unfortunately this has no effect on the print request from the ReportViewer.

So if anyone has got a solution/workaround/suggestion for this problem we would be very grateful.

Thanks,
Dean.

HTTPS Access To SQL 2005 Cubes

Sep 18, 2006

Hi there

I have two machines one 64bit machine with SQl 2005 on it and another 32 bit machine which I use as my web server both running win2003. I have followed the knowledgebase article from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/httpasws.mspx) and also researched postings on this site but can't seem to access the cubes remotely. I have changed to msmdpump.ini file to have the <ServerName>mycomputername</ServerName> which points to the SQL box.

I can connect to the cubes from the 32 bit machine using somethign like crystal reports and connecting directly to the server name but can't connect to https://localhost/olap/msmdpump.dll I get an error about could not connect to the computer name or the computer is not runing analysis services.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Derek

HTTPS Merge Client Synchronisation Issues

May 1, 2007

Hi

We have about 70 clients, each with their own databases synching to a copy of their database on a remote webserver. They synchronise using a Windows Service which we wrote using RMO.

For completeness, our setup is as follows:

subscription.CreateSyncAgentByDefault = False -- I wrote a windows service to synchronise
subscription.UseWebSynchronization = True
subscription.InternetSecurityMode = AuthenticationMethod.BasicAuthentication
subscription.SubscriberType = MergeSubscriberType.Anonymous

Sometimes, one of our clients synchronisation goes up the spout - it might take hours to synchronise - despite their internet connection being fine. And once this starts to happen, nothing will fix it. We've restarted their server, rebooted their router etc etc.

Well, the only way of fixing it is to recreate the publication, copy the backup, reinitialise and start again, which costs us a days work and inconveniences the client greatly.

What would be the likely trigger for this. How can we stop this happening again.

If it helps we could create a trace to help resolve this.....

Regards

Bruce

Problem Pulling Data Using HTTPS -SQL CE RDA Pull

Feb 2, 2008

Hello All,
I have an application pulling data from SQL Server 2005 which is running on windows mobile 5 devices, and RDA is setup and working perfectly over http and this is in the production for long time, but we have decided to implement SSL for transportation recently and we have a certificate installed to the server and i am trying to pull data using https and getting "the request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed" message, only RDA stopped working over SSL, i can access scripts and other resources from the device using https (I made code to trust any certificate for any web requests) the link to the dll is accessible from outside, i have installed the root certicate on the server, the virtual directory has been changed to communicate via https on web synchronization wizard, then problem occurs, otherwise it will work ok, i am totally stuck at this point, is this a problem with port setup port 443 is opened, the issue is clearly a SSL issue. any help would be appreciated..what are the things to be done to implement SSL for RDA, i don't see anything more in msdn.
thank you so much!

WebRequest Over HTTPS Fails Under SQLCLR, But Works Elsewhere

Mar 1, 2007

I have some code in a SQL CLR stored procedure that calls out to a web service at UPS to obtain tracking information for a package.

The code fails on the last line, in the call to WebRequest.GetRequestStream(), with the following exception:

"System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoConnect(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress)
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.InternalConnect(EndPoint remoteEP)
at System.Net.ServicePoint.ConnectSocketInternal(Boolean connectFailure, Socket s4, Socket s6, Socket& socket, IPAddress& address, ConnectSocketState state, IAsyncResult asyncResult, Int32 timeout, Exception& exception)
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream()
at UPSTracking.TrackShipment(String TrackingUri)"

Here is the relevant code:

WebProxy proxyObject = new WebProxy();
WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create("https://www.ups.com/ups.app/xml/Track");
request.Proxy = proxyObject;
request.Method = "POST";
request.ContentLength = strXMLData.Length;
request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded";
StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(request.GetRequestStream());

This same code works just fine when not running in the SQL CLR assembly. The assembly is marked as External, but I've also tried marking it as Unsafe, which did not work either.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be or how to troubleshoot this further would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve F.

Report Manager Http/https - Mixed Links

Aug 10, 2006

Hi,
I have setup reportserver with default settings (non https) and afterwards in IIS added a certificate and https support.
Know I am able to work really well and secure over the internet, but some links in report manager pointing to http://server.domain.com/reports instead of https:
For example if i call a report and then in the top there are (view, properties,...)
- View is HTTPS
- Properties is HTTPS
- History is HTTP
- Subscription is HTTP

I have read some articles - mentions I should configure https, but
- in Report Configuration you could not setup HTTPS
- in rsreportserver.config i have entered the https link version but did not change anything
- in RSWebApplication.config the Reportserverurltag is blank - so i did not change anything

Thanks for any help

SSRS 2005 - Linked Report Email Doesn't Have Https

May 19, 2008

I've got a report server that I recently inherited. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an expert on SSRS, but I've figured out a lot in the past few weeks.

One issue I'm having (apparently it's always been there, but nobody ever bothered to fix it in the past) has to do with the report subscriptions and linked reports. We have an SSL cert inside IIS. I have SSRS configured to "require SSL connections" in the Report Server Virtual Directory tab.

So the user gets an email with a link to a report. But the link has an "http://" as opposed to "https://." When you click on the link, it throws your standard "page must be viewed on a secure channel." When I manually append an S to the url, it works great.

There has to be a way to automagically add the S to the url, but I can't seem to figure out how. Anyone ever run into this before? Google has not been good to me this morning either.

Changing Merge Agent Profile For HTTPS - MergeSubscriberType = Anonymous

Aug 8, 2006

Hi

We are using HTTPS merge replication

Our setup is as follows:

subscription.CreateSyncAgentByDefault = False -- I wrote a windows service to synchronise
subscription.UseWebSynchronization = True
subscription.InternetSecurityMode = AuthenticationMethod.BasicAuthentication
subscription.SubscriberType = MergeSubscriberType.Anonymous

Some of our subscribers have low-quality internet connections - how do I get the agent at the publisher/distributer use a slower profile - I've read How to: Work with Replication Agent Profiles (Replication Transact-SQL Programming)
but can't see where you specifiy an alternate agent profile

On the distributer / publisher (same machine) I go to replication monitor -> Warnings and Agents - I can only set the profile for the snapshot agent....

thanks

Setting Up SQL To Use A SAN.

Jan 17, 2006

If you have a SQL server setup that isn’t using a SAN but just a normal raid array and you wanted to utilize a SAN now.

What are the steps, I'm guessing that you will need to start the services under a domain user correct?

Is it as easy as detaching the DB and then reattaching the DB on the SAN?

I'm assuming you need to map the data and log arrays from the server to the SAN correct?

I can’t seem to find any documentation on moving a server to a new SAN. Can someone post links if you have them?

Do you need ENT edition or is Standard OK .

Thanks for your help.

Setting Up A New Job

Feb 20, 2006

Hi

I'm trying to set up a new job to update a field in the table, I've managed to get the select syntax to work, but when I added an IF statement and Update syntax it didn't like it and the following error was shown:-

Server: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 9
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'BEGIN'.

This is the syntax I'm trying to use for the job:-

USE EmployerEngagement

IF (SELECT On_Stop
FROM tblEmployer LEFT OUTER JOIN tblWP_Details
ON tblEmployer.Emp_ID = tblWP_Details.Emp_ID LEFT OUTER JOIN tblVetting
ON tblWP_Details.Record_ID = tblVetting.Record_ID
WHERE tblEmployer.On_Stop = 0
AND tblVetting.Next_Vett_Date <= GETDATE())
BEGIN
UPDATE tblEmployer
SET On_Stop = 1
END

Basically I just want to change the On_Stop value from 0 to 1 if the Next_Vett_Date is before or on todays date.

Am I using the wrong syntax for this?

Thanks

Setting SQL @ Variables From Within ASP

Dec 30, 2006

Hi, I have just started with ASP, and have a problem. I have created a stored procedure which looks to a specific tablename for information, based upon the users choice from a dropdown list.
The control works fine when executed from within visual web developer, and I manually enter the value that the variable expects. However I can not get the dropdown listbox value to be written to the SQL value. I have tried for days, traweled the net for answers, borrowed 3ft in height of SQL books! so either I am doing something fundamentally wrong, or I am missing something. My SP is:
ALTER Procedure GenericTableSelect
@tablename VarChar(20)
AS
Declare @SQL VarChar(1000)
SELECT @SQL = 'SELECT [base model] FROM '
SELECT @SQL = @SQL + @tablename
Exec ( @SQL)
and from the page the command to call it is:
 SelectCommand=generictableselect></asp:SqlDataSource>
But this fails to compile and comes back with "@tablename not defined"
any pointers in the right direction would help.
The object of this is for two drop down boxes - the first is populated from one database of categories, the selection of which populates the second drop down list with items from within that category.
 Cheers,
Richard

Setting Up SQL Database

Apr 7, 2007

I have been using MySQL as the back end of my .Net 2.0 applications for a while using a custom membership provider without any problems.Having now switched to a new webhost which supports both MySQL and MS SQL Server 2005 and also creating a new site thought I should set up the new site to use MS SQL..... I am having trouble however setting up the SQL server to act as the membership provider. Following the advice on here I tried using aspnet_regsql.exe...  Firstly, when trying to get the list of databasses on the remote server I get the following error: Failed to query a list of database names from the SQL Server. Invalid object name 'Sysdatabases' If I then just type in the name of my database and go through to the end I get the following error:Exception:An error occurred during the execution of the SQL file 'InstallCommon.sql'. The SQL error number is 8152 and the SqlException message is: String or binary data would be truncated.   I can connect to my MS SQL server remotely without any problem using the likes of MS SQL Server Management Studio Express. Is there any other way I can setup the databases needed for user and roles access control or is the usage of MS SQL much more complicated than what MySQL was?
