View 6 RepliesHi,
I have created an asmx web service that deserializes a JSON string and should execute stored procedures in SQL Server Express 2005, the database is a mdf file. I have created a System DSN which works fine, I have allowed the remote connections and TCP/IP and created the firewall exceptions for sqlserver and sqlbrowser. I believe there's an issue with my connection string, I have tried everything and it still won't connect.
I had another running example but that was on a previous install of Windows XP Pro SP1 with login and this asmx web service worked fine. I run Windows XP Pro SP2 without a login now so I guess I can't use Integrated Security=true or Trusted Connection=yes but does anybody know the default login of a database created in Windows Visual Developer Express?
Here's my connection string:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|
antanplan.mdf;Integrated Security=SSPI;User Instance=false;UID=sa;PWD=sa"
And here's the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Hi all,
Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors.
First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.
My error I get is when I execute a basic .asp page:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database "mydatabasename" requested by the login. The login failed.
/index.asp, line 10 which is dbConnect.Open cstring
from this peice of code:
sub dbOpen()
set dbConnect = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
cstring = "DSN=mysqldsn; Trusted Connection=yes"
dbConnect.Open cstring
end sub
I have gone into ODBC and have setup both a user dsn and file dsn that equals mysqldsn and points to my database (I know you only need to set up one DSN but I'm not sure which)
I also notice under mywebsite home panel there is a connection string option. Do I do anything with that?
Definatley a lot more to it than XP's II6!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I am using SQL Server 2005 at home.
My problem is I forgot my password to log in to my server.
I only remember user name is 'sa'.
I haven't used it for two to three months. So I forgot password.
Previously, When I used sql server 2000, my login is as windows login. so no problem.
But this time, I set seperate log in and I got this problem.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
George
Hello everyone,
Since last so many days i am seeing that someone is trying to login to sql server through login name sa.but that login is failed.and this is occuring constantly.
Earlier i had same login failed message for another ip address.i have blocked that ip address through access-list in firewall.but now i am seeing the same message for another ip address.
(1).how can i permenently remove this message from Event log.
(2).What is the impact of this on sql server performance.is sql server performance degraded by this kind of contineous attack?
here i am attaching that report from event viewer log file.

I have two applications added to a single solution. A Web application and a ClassLibrary which contains the Unit Tests. From the ClassLibrary I am trying to open the SQL SERVER 2005 Express Database. The database is in the App_Code directory of the Web Application folder. I have added the App.config file in my class library which has the following credentials. <connectionStrings> <add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=MYSERVER;Initial Catalog=MyDatabase;User Id=AZAMSHARP;Password=mypassword;"/> </connectionStrings>Now, when I run the test: [Test] public void CanOpenDatabaseConnection() { string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString; SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(connectionString); myConnection.Open(); Assert.AreEqual(myConnection.State, ConnectionState.Open); myConnection.Close(); }It throws the Exception: ThingsTODOTestApps.SqlConnectionFixture.CanOpenDatabaseConnection : System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException : Login failed for user 'AZAMSHARP'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.I tried the same connectionString with the WebApps and it worked fine and displayed the results. Any ideas! PS: AZAMSHARP is my windows authentication account.

Hi,
I just installed Visual web developper 2008 express with all options including SQL srvr express 2005!
This is from default iso image on the official website.
I create my first project and when I want to do ASP.NET configuration from web site menu, i got this error:
"Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed."
I am just trying to learn here so i even did not create any dB or something, it is 1st time I run configuration to add security roles and users for testing!
I also un-installed all and re-installed, still the same...
pleas help and give me details as i am new.
kind regards,Golgot
My PC is Window XP Pro and I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.
My question is how to create a login userid and password under "SQL Server Authentication"? (as shown in http://www.findingsteve.net/print_screen.jpg)
Any tutorial about this I can read?
SQL Server 2005 Express keeps putting in a different password than the one I chose. I would check the properties on the login I want to change. Then I change the password and it gets accepted. When I try my web application, I get the dreaded "login failed for <loginname>". I look at the properties again and see my password never change. Is this a bug? I ever tried this syntax to no avail:
CREATE LOGIN <loginname> WITH PASSWORD='<mypassword>' CHECK_EXPIRATION = OFF, CHECK_POLICY = OFF
Hi,
In MySQL,
"GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'@'192.168.1.1' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypassword' WITH GRANT OPTION;"
This gives the permission to 'root' user from '192.168.1.1'. Another user or another ip couldn't connect to this server.
In SQL Server 2005 Express, can I implement like above query statement?
I just spent the better par of 3 days creating a prototype in ASP.Net 2.0 and SQL Server Express only to discover that nobody from outside can see it...
ERROR with impersonation=true
User does not have permission to perform this action.
ERROR with impersonation=false

What makes this so difficult?
What am I missing?

Been looking through the forums for a solution to this problem.I already tried granting access through statements such as:exec sp_grantloginaccess N1'machineNameASPNET'But they don't seem to work.. i vaguely remember seeing somewhere a DOS command line statement that grants access to the ASPNET_WP and that fixed my problem before on another computer.. but this is a new computer and i forgot to write down the command. Can anyone help explain and propose a solution to my problem. Many thanxs.

Hi, all
I installed SQL 2005 express edition in my pc (Pro XP), then I can login from SQL 2005 Managerment Studio Express. After a few days later, I can't do it and an error message as belows:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
It seems that the default setting does not allow remote connections, however, I connected it before and havn't change any setting. I try to reinstall the studio express but still not working.
Any idea / solution will be welcome.

Hello,
I'm trying to log into a remote SQL Server but get: Login Failed for user
'XXXXXXXX' and I also get the 18456 error.
The host company assure me they are the right logins and curiously when I use Visual Web Developer and the data connection I can access the database tables etc.
I am using TCP/IP
any ideas what might be going wrong?
thanks.
Hello all
Im new to SQL 2005 express so please bare with me,
I have set up wireless peer to peer network and I am trying to access an express database from one machine to another. I can transfer files no problem.
When I try to create a new login, I am forced to only select logins local to the machine with the database. When I try and create a new login by typing <machinename><windows account > of the second PC, SQL can not see it.
I have tried both Windows authentication and mixed mode... no success.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Hello
I have copied my web site to the default folder on IIS 5.1 (I am using XP Pro), and now when i run the app, i get to the login page and after hitting "Login" button the page refreshes and clears the fields but no error message.
I am not sure what to do.
I created a new login name. I checked 3 databases in User Mapping. I tried to mimic an existing login name. When I right clicked at the database and selected Properties. I selected the Permission tab at the left. It showed both login names under users or roles. I selected the existing login name and clicked the Effective Permissions button. The login has all permissions: Alter, Create, Select, Insert, Update, Delete, Execute, Connect, etc. When I selected the new login name and clicked the Effective Permission button, the login has only Connect. Why the new login name does not have all other permissions? And how can I assign to it?
Thanks.

I followed the steps outlined in a blog I found to setup SS2005 express for remote connections. Everything appeared to go smooth until I actually tried to logon ;)
I have Sql Server 2005 Express installed on my WinXP PRO machine at home (no domain). I have opened the ports on the firewall, etc.
When I try and login from the SQLCMD command line tool I get a Login Failed error. Here is the connection string that I'm trying to use:
SQLCMD -S **.***.**.*SQLEXPRESS -U Steve -P MyPassword
The error:
Login failed for user 'Steve'.
When I use Management Studio Express on the same machine running Sql Server, it shows the User name: NEVERSTILLSteve
'NEVERSTILL' is the name of my computer.
If I try and use that same username with a remote connection I get the same error.
I have googled for the error and msg code, but nothing fitting my situation is coming up.
Anyone have any ideas for me?
Could anyone please advise on a good hosting company that DOES support the above applications and any advice on the Login Controls for the uploaded database would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have a script component. What it does, it queries the a table using a connectionstring assigned to it in the Connection Managers Editor (which is an ado.net adapter). this works fine when i'm using a windows login in the ado.net connection manager. But when i changed my connection to use SQL server login, I encounter this error:

All the logins with sysadmin role are locked out in one of the SQL server. Also in that instance Logon trigger is implemented which allows only certain users with Windows Authentication to logon.
This server is converted into single user mode by using command prompt. Now we are attempting to connect to SQLServer using command sqlcmd -S FTCPU3239 (since we do not have any other login) and create a new login with sysadmin role but are refused due to logon trigger. it says Login failed for login 'DomainNameUserName' due to trigger execution.
I have a server that has 20 databases . I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

Hi!
I have a piece of code that connects to the master database and uses the simple 'CREATE DATABASE MYDATABASE' statement to create a new database on an sql server 2005 express instance.
I then close that connection and try to open a new connection using my newly created database. I use integrated authentication in both cases. However, I get the following error: Cannot open database "MYDATABASE" requested by the login. The login failed.Login failed for user 'DOMAINNAMEusername'.System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open database "MYDATABASE" requested by the login. The login failed.
I don't get this error all the time. I tried to run my code many times and it some times work. But in some cases it doesn't. The database is always created but some times I cannot connect to it. But again, if I wait a little and try again with the same database, the connection is made.
I know that my connections are opened and closed normally and they don't remain open. So I don't believe I reach the maximum number of available connections.
I also sometimes get this exception : A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an
error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory
Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.
Any clue?
In my DB (SQL 2012) one windows authentication is created automatically and a schema is created exactly automatically that this user is owner of this schema. (e.g the user is domainx and schema exactly domainx).
I created a DDL Trigger on my DB to find out who and how it is created , but I didn't get any useful information.
I change the owner of schema that I can delete the schema and after that delete the user, and sometimes because the user is owner of a service , I have to alter the owner of the service to DBO and delete the user , but again and again exactly this user and schema (e.g domaninx ) are created as soon as I delete it.
I have read these topics : [URL] .... and [URL] .... but can't solve my problem.
Hi
I have created a new login in SQL Server 2000.
I have hooked up to more than one database which creating the login.
In syslogins we can see only the default database associated with that login.
I want the list of all the databases for that specific login..
How could I get them?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My main task is to create a login under a specific database.
For which I'm validating whether that login already exists or not I'm checking it in the syslogins table. I need to specifically check it is in my databse or not....for that what should I do...
Thanks in advance
hi,
so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them:
"Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'xxx'"
Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error.
I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database. I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account. Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed'
This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too. But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database. If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?
