I Want To Connect To A Ms Sql Server,but ...invalid Pointer...why?

Dec 28, 2004

i want to conncet to a ms sql server,but the debug info: "invalid pointer!"
is there any problems in my coding?
by debugging, i know the problem must lie in the variant strConnect.
i use ms sql server 2000+ winxp+ visual c++6.0

_ConnectionPtr m_pConnection ;
void ADOConn::OnInitADOConn()
{
::CoInitialize(NULL);
try
{
m_pConnection.CreateInstance("ADODB.Recordset");

_bstr_t strConnect="Provider=SQLOLEDB;
TRUSTED_CONNECTION=TRUE;//use windows log in
Initial Catalog=....../*database name*/;
Data Source=SJTU-3V87CA6SZP";//server name
m_pConnection->Open(strConnect,"","",adModeUnknown);

}
catch (_com_error e) {
_bstr_t bstrSource(e.Source());
_bstr_t bstrDescription(e.Description());
TRACE( "Exception thrown for classes generated by #import" );
TRACE( " Code = %08lx

Invalid Pointer When Using Ado In A Dll

Nov 5, 2007

Hello, I am working on a dll that is being loaded by browsers. I have to check if the hostname of a requested page is in a database containing sites that have to be blocked. I am using the following code to connect to the db:

Code Block

BOOL check(WCHAR *wszHost)
{
BOOL ret = FALSE;
_ConnectionPtr pConn = NULL;
_CommandPtr pCmd = NULL;
_RecordsetPtr pRs = NULL;
try
{
pConn.CreateInstance(__uuidof(Connection));
pCmd.CreateInstance(__uuidof(Command));
pRs.CreateInstance (__uuidof (Recordset));
pConn->Open(_bstr_t(L"Provider=MSDASQL.1;Data Source="C:\Deny.mdb"), _bstr_t(L""), _bstr_t(L""), adOpenUnspecified);
pCmd->ActiveConnection = pConn;
pCmd->CommandType = adCmdText;
wcscpy_s(query, 2*_MAX_PATH, L"SELECT site FROM Allow WHERE site='");
wcscat_s(query, 2*_MAX_PATH, wszHost);
wcscat_s(query, 2*_MAX_PATH, L"'");
pCmd->CommandText = (_bstr_t)query;
pRs->CursorLocation = adUseClient;
pRs->Open((IDispatch*)pCmd, vtMissing, adOpenStatic, adLockReadOnly, adCmdText);
if(pRs->RecordCount > 0)
ret = TRUE;
}
catch(_com_error error)
{
dbgprint(" Description = %s", (char*) error.Description());
dbgprint(" Source = %s", (char*) error.Source());
dbgprint(" Code = %08lx", error.Error());
dbgprint(" Code meaning = %s", error.ErrorMessage());
return FALSE;
}
catch(...)
{
dbgprint(" Unhandled error!");
return FALSE;
}
}

Hel

The strange thing is that this code is running fine with Internet Explorer but when the dll is loaded by Firefox pConn->Open() fails with Invalid pointer error. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.Martin

HELP!!! DTS: Invalid Pointer Error

Aug 31, 1999

I searched the archives but couldn't find anything on this yet...

I am using the wizard to grab selected data from 6.5 Server1 to insert into a table on 6.5 Server2, no transformations necessary.

I've tried it two ways (actually more, but two ways will demonstrate the problem). The query I run to grab the data is search through approx 6.5 million records in poorly indexed tables, on a slow machine. Takes approximately 45 minutes to run the query alone, and right around the same to run the DTS package.

The difference between the two queries in the two different packages (all else equal), is that the first uses a variable to calculate a date to filter the where clause. The second hard codes the date in the where clause. The second works, but the first runs about 40 minutes before returning a Transfer Failed error that reads "Invalid Pointer". No error number, nothing in the Books online about the error.

The queries are as follows:
***************************************
QUERY 1 (calculates the date for 11:00 PM night before last)

Declare @DateLastReceived datetime
Declare @CharLastReceived varchar(25)

Select @DateLastReceived = DateAdd(dd,-1,getDate())
Select @CharLastReceived = Convert(varchar(25), @DateLastReceived, 101)
select @DateLastReceived = Convert(dateTime, @CharLastReceived)
select @DateLastReceived = DateAdd(hh,-1,@DateLastReceived)

select s.SerialNumber as iwSerialNumber, MAX(p.ReceiptTime) AS iwLastReceived,
p.PurchaseOrderNumber as iwPO, s.Revision as iwBomRev, s.PartNumber as iwPartNumber
From SLOCAZ s INNER JOIN PORDRZ p ON s.SerialNumber = p.SerialNumber
Where p.ReceiptTime > @DateLastReceived
And ( (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'BD%')
OR (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'TP%')
OR (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'DM%') )
GROUP BY s.SerialNumber, p.PurchaseOrderNumber, s.Revision, s.PartNumber

***************************************
QUERY 2 (Hard codes the date)

select s.SerialNumber as iwSerialNumber, MAX(p.ReceiptTime) AS iwLastReceived,
p.PurchaseOrderNumber as iwPO, s.Revision as iwBomRev, s.PartNumber as iwPartNumber
From SLOCAZ s INNER JOIN PORDRZ p ON s.SerialNumber = p.SerialNumber
Where p.ReceiptTime > 'Aug 29 1999 11:00PM'
And ( (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'BD%')
OR (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'TP%')
OR (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'DM%') )
GROUP BY s.SerialNumber, p.PurchaseOrderNumber, s.Revision, s.PartNumber

*****************************
I should also note that I thought maybe the hard coded date being used as a string was the difference, so I tried the following (which just converts the date back into a char variable and uses the char variable in the where clause)

Declare @DateLastReceived datetime
Declare @CharLastReceived varchar(25)

Select @DateLastReceived = DateAdd(dd,-1,getDate())
Select @CharLastReceived = Convert(varchar(25), @DateLastReceived, 101)
select @DateLastReceived = Convert(dateTime, @CharLastReceived)
select @DateLastReceived = DateAdd(hh,-1,@DateLastReceived)
select @CharLastReceived = Convert(varchar(25), @DateLastReceived, 100)

select s.SerialNumber as iwSerialNumber, MAX(p.ReceiptTime) AS iwLastReceived,
p.PurchaseOrderNumber as iwPO, s.Revision as iwBomRev, s.PartNumber as iwPartNumber
From SLOCAZ s INNER JOIN PORDRZ p ON s.SerialNumber = p.SerialNumber
Where p.ReceiptTime > @CharLastReceived
And ( (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'BD%')
OR (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'TP%')
OR (p.PurchaseOrderNumber Like 'DM%') )
GROUP BY s.SerialNumber, p.PurchaseOrderNumber, s.Revision, s.PartNumber

************************************
This still didn't work...

Any Ideas on what is happening and/or how to fix it???
Amy

SQLDescribeParam With Subselect: Invalid Parameter Number/Invalid Descriptor Index

Apr 21, 2008

Hello,

I've got the following query:

SELECT zA."ID" AS fA_A
, zA."TEXT" AS fA_B
, (
SELECT COUNT(zC."ID")
FROM Test."Booking" AS zC
) AS fA_E
FROM Test."Stack" AS zA
WHERE zA."ID" = ?

With this query I call:
- SQLPrepare -> SQL_SUCCESS=0
- SQLNumParams -> SQL_SUCCESS=0, pcpar = 1
- SQLDescribeParam( 1 ) -> SQL_ERROR=-1, [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid parameter number", "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid Descriptor Index"

Is there a problem with this calling sequence or this query? Or is this a problem of SQL Server?

Regards
Markus

Cannot Connect W/ Java App But Can Connect W/ .Net App - SQL Server Express 2005

Dec 12, 2006

I'm having a problem connecting with a Java application but I CAN connect using my .Net application - the user name and password are the same for both (using the same database on SQL Server Express 2005).

The error I get is: "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Cannot open database "CORNERS" requested by the login. The login failed." An interesing note - I get the same message if the database is not running.

SQL Server Express 2005 is installed in mixed mode.

Here is my connection string in the .Net appplication: <add key="connectString" value="Server=(local);UID=sa;PWD=myPasswd;Database=CORNERS" />.

These are my values in my Java app web.xml -

<init-param>
<param-name>DBDriver</param-name>
<param-value>com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver</param-value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<param-name>DBURL</param-name> <param-value>jdbc:sqlserver://localhostsqlexpress:1055;databaseName=CORNERS</param-value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<param-name>DBUser</param-name>
<param-value>sa</param-value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<param-name>DBPwd</param-name>
<param-value>myPasswd</param-value>
</init-param>.

And yes, the port is 1055 - I checked to find it.

I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.0 (sqljdbc_1.0.809.102).

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong so that the login fails in the Java application but works in the .Net application?

Help! SQL Server Error - [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Invalid Object Name ...

Jul 23, 2005

Dear all,On Win2000 server with SP3, I am trying to access a SQL Server 7.0database, "TestDB", from VB6 via a SQL Server ODBC system DSN using ADO2.7. In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, there is a login named "Tester".In its property window, NO "Server Roles" was assigned but its"Database Access" was set to "TestDB". This login was also made as theuser of "TestDB" with "public", "db_datareader" and "db_datawriter"selected as its "Database role membership". All the tables I am tryingto access in "TestDB" were created under "Tester".My code is like:Set conn = New ADODB.Connectionconn.Open "DSN=TestDSN;UID=Tester;PWD=test"Set cmd = New ADODB.Commandcmd.ActiveConnection = conncmd.CommandText = SQLset rs = cmd.Execute()If I set the SQL to something like "SELECT * FROM tbl_test", I alwaysget an error of "-2147217865" saying "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL ServerDriver][SQL Server] Invalid object name tbl_test". If I set the SQL to"SELECT * FROM Tester.tbl_test", everything runs properly. Could anyoneplease kindly advise why the first SQL is not working? Or in otherwords, why must I prefix the table name with its owner while the DBconnection is already made under that owner name? Thanks in advance.Tracy

I am attempting to call a user defined function from a stored procedure in the same database, and I get the following error:Invalid object name 'dbo.fn_NewSplit'.I've tried calling it as dbo.fn_NewSplit, fn_NewSplit etc. I also setup another that had my DB login IE ihomesm_maindb.fn_NewSplit and get the same results. Interestingly there is another previously built stored procedure calling the same function with apparantly no problems.
Also, I have tried to execute this stored procedure with both my .net application and within the query analyzer with the same error.

I'm new to SQL server so I hope somebody is willing to lend a hand...

I installed the server without a problem, and the service is showing as running OK.

However, when I open SQL enterprise manager, no server names can be selected.

But, when i go in via DOS and enter

SELECT @@SERVERNAME
GO

I get the correct name back - "andrewp"

I don't understand how I cannot connect to the server via Enterprise Manager...

I'm running on NT4.0 Workstation, SQL server 6.5, if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help you can give,

Error With Scale-out Web Server: Invalid Object Name

Jan 24, 2007

We are adding a second web server to our farm. Reporting Services is installed on one web server as Rpt01 instance and works just fine. We have installed the second web server also with an instance named Rpt01 and are now trying to configure to re-use the same database as the first server. When we restart services we get the error listed below.

I was wondering if there was an issue with the same named instances on two different web servers accessing the same ReportServer01 database? This is the error that we are getting. Any help would be appreciated. The curious thing is that our databases are named ReportServer01 and ReportServer01TempDB and not the name listed below.

Invalid Use Of Schema Or Catalog For OLE DB Provider MSDAORA For Linked Server CUSTOMERLINK.

Nov 7, 2007

I keep recieving a "Invalid use of schema or catalog for OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server D"CUSTOMERLINK". A four-part name was supplied, but the provider does not expose the necessary interfaces to use a catalog or schema."

I'm attempting to set up a linked server from SQL 2005 to Oracle 10.2. I run the following sp_addlinkedserver and sp_addlinkedsrvlogin procedures:

sp_addlinkedserver

@server = 'CUSTOMERLINK',

@provider = 'MSDAORA',

@srvproduct = 'ORACLE',

@datasrc = 'CUSTOMER'

GO

sp_addlinkedsrvlogin

@rmtsrvname = 'CUSTOMERLINK',

@useself = 'False',

@rmtuser = 'CUSTOMER1',

@rmtpassword = 'PASSWORD!'

These procedures complete successfully. I then run a sp_tables_ex procedure:

sp_tables_ex @table_server=CUSTOMERLINK, @table_schema='CUSTOMER1'

This procedure completes successfully and gives me all of the table names in my oracle database that relate to the Customer1 schema.

Then when I go to run a query

select id from [CUSTOMERLINK].[CUSTOMERDB].[CUSTOMER1].[CLIENT] Where name = 'codm'

I recieve a "Invalid use of schema or catalog for OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server D"CUSTOMERLINK". A four-part name was supplied, but the provider does not expose the necessary interfaces to use a catalog or schema." error.

Any suggestions?

Pre-requisiste Install Error 87 Invalid Parameter From SQL 2005 Dev Ed On Server 2008 RC0

Oct 2, 2007

The subject pretty much sums the problem up. I am trying to get a database installed on Server 2008 RC0. The public information says SQL 2005 SP2 should work, but I cannot get the base SQL 2005 installed in order to apply the service pack. When I run the installation, I immediately get an error when trying to install the pre-requisites. Specifically, the .NET 2.0 Framework errors with code 87, "invalid parameter".

I have found a couple references to this error code, but nothing to do with Server 2008 and RC0. I have tried using a directory with no spaces, and tried the EXE vs ISO installation, but they everything fails. I don't know if there is a way to bypass the .NET 2.0 Framework install - since it's already on the machine anyway.

Thanks in advance for any help!

SQL Server 2012 :: Column X Is Invalid In Select List Because It Is Not Contained In Aggregate Function

Apr 3, 2015

I have a specific variation on the standard 'Column Invalid' question: I have this query that works fine:

SELECT vd.Question ,
csq.Q# ,
csq.Q_Sort ,
csq.Q_SubSort ,
AVG(CAST(vd.Response AS FLOAT)) AS AvgC ,
vd.RType

[Code] ....

When I add this second average column like this:

SELECT vd.Question ,
csq.Q# ,
csq.Q_Sort ,
csq.Q_SubSort ,
AVG(CAST(vd.Response AS FLOAT)) AS AvgC ,

[Code] ....

I get the error: Column 'dbo.vwData.Response' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause.

Clearly things are in the right place before the change, so I can only assume that the OVER clause is my problem. Is this just not possible?

Invalid Column Name 'rowguid'. Error When Generating Snapshot For Merge Replication SQL Server 2005

May 15, 2007

Hi there,

I have setup merge replication which successfully synchronizes with a group of desktop users using SQL Compact Edition.

However now I have setup Article Filters and when I attempt to regenerate the snapshot I get the following error:

Invalid column name 'rowguid'.

Failed to generate merge replication stored procedures for article 'AssignedCriteria'.

When I look at publication properties at the Articles page.. All my tables have the rowguid uniqueidentifier successfully added to tables and selected as a compulsory published column, apart from the table above "AssignedCriteria".. Even when I attempt to select this column in the article properties page and press ok, when I come back it is deselected again. ( The Rowguid column is however physically added to the table)

I have scripted the publication SQL and then totally reinstalled from scratch, including the database but for some reason it doesn't like this table. I remove the article filters, but still this "rowguid" is never "selected" in article properties.

We are using Uniqueidentifiers in other columns as well for historical reasons, but this doesn't appear to be a problem in other tables..

DDL For this problematic table is as follows

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[AssignedCriteria](

[AssignedCriteria] [uniqueidentifier] NOT NULL,

[CriteriaName] [varchar](255) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL,

[TargetScore] [numeric](5, 0) NULL,

[HRPlan] [uniqueidentifier] NULL,

[ActualScore] [numeric](18, 0) NULL,

[Criteria] [uniqueidentifier] NULL,

[Employee] [uniqueidentifier] NULL,

[IsActive] [bit] NULL,

[addDate] [datetime] NULL,

[totalscore] [numeric](5, 0) NULL,

[isCalc] [bit] NULL,

[Weight] [decimal](18, 2) NULL,

[ProfileDetail] [uniqueidentifier] NULL,

[rowguid] [uniqueidentifier] ROWGUIDCOL NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [MSmerge_df_rowguid_7FF25DF903B6415FBFF24AC954BC88E4] DEFAULT (newsequentialid()),

CONSTRAINT [PK_AssignedCriteria] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED

(

[AssignedCriteria] ASC

)WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]

) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]

Thanks.
