Hi, there;
I want to importing data from ODBC, I created DataReader Source which use a .NET Provide Odbc Data Provider and connected successfully. My destination is a OLE DB Destination that points to SQL2005. I set the SQL command as "SELECT * from ....".
I also have problem to create new table in SQL2005 using SSIS Import and Export Wizard, it doesn't know the source table table schema (two date type column). So I create the new table manully and run the package, I got error:
SSIS package "Package1.dtsx" starting.

Can any one know what's wrong here?
And it is quite pain that you have to specify the table name every time you want to create a new table in SQL2005. It is so easy in SQL2000!!!
I'm a new SQL2005 user. I'm trying to import data from MySQL version 5x into my SQL2005 by wizard. I created a DNS file and tested successfully using MySQL Connector/ODBC v5. Everthing seems fine but at the last step selecting data source. The SQL2005 wizard forced me to choose using SQL command option instead of selecting tables/views from a list. Anyone can tell me why? My collegues faced the same case as they help me to find the reason. I'm sure that there are a few source objetcts in MySQL source.
I had to upgrade to SQL2005 when my customer did so. Everything went OK until I had to load additional data to the datamart. The SQL2000 task to load data from flat text files was straight forward and literally took me seconds tyo set up and execute and has never given me problems. I have now spent 3 days straight trying to do the same in SQL2005 going in ever wider circles. I have got SSIS up and going, I saved a dtsx package that won't run without a multitude of errors ranging from truncation errors (which I tried to avoid by meticulously ensuring all field definitions on the import and export side are defined and correct) to errors relating to not being able to connect to the database I am working on or of not having the right security access. I am at my wits end. I need help!
I am trying to import tables from an ODBC data source into an SQL Server 2005 database. I presume that one way to achieve this is to create an Integration Services package, via Business Intelligence Studio (I already used DTS in SQL Server 2000, but not Integration Services) ?
Or is there a simpler way ? For instance, is there an import wizard that woult include an ODBC Data source ?
i am attempting to run phpbb using ms sql 2005 on the same box but get the following error during the setup
Could not connect to the database, see error message below. [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
i am not sure yet if this is an issue with sql, php or phpbb
php is installed in iis and has all the modules installed which the php msi installer supported. i can run php code but in this case when i'm running the install.php file for the phphbb setup, i fill in the values for the database and got that error
phpbb detects all the required server settings and sees that i have ms sql installed
any suggestions on what that error means or how to go about configuring odbc driver?
probably a simple issue. but i'm still new with sql stuff
Hi, I have a problem importing data from SQL Server 2000 'text' columns to SQL Server 2005 nvarchar(max) columns. I get the following error when encountering a transfer of any column that matches the above. The error is copied below,
Any help on this greatly appreciated...

Hello, I hope I am posting this question in the right forum. I have been working on some ASP applications and using them to connect to a MySQL database. I would like to move all of the data from MySQL over to SQL2005 Express. The problem is that the express version doesn't offer an import/export tool for CSV files. I am able to export my table data from MySQL to a CSV file, how can I import this data into my SQL2005 Ex database? Thanks.
I am dealing with a lot of XML file data that I load in a SQL 2005 database using Integration Services. Let me give you a high level idea of I how I do it.
The way I do it is that a) I create a blank Integration Services Project, then b) In the "Control Flow" tab I put the "Data Flow Task" by simply dragging "Data Flow Task" on to the "Control Flow" page. c) Then in the "Data Flow" tab I drag the "XML Source" as my data flow source, and drag "OLEB Destination" as my data flow destination; then I create a connection between the "XML Source" and "OLEDB Destination" and point the "XML Source" to my XML file, and I point the "OLEDB Destination" to the Database where I want to load the XML file. I configure the mappings etc if needed and run the package. This works fine for me. But if the XML file is large it takes hours to load the data. I am dealing with huge size XML files and I want an alternative in Inegration Services probably "Bulk Insert Task" but dont know how to use it. Can someone please explain how I can use bulk insert as a fast alternative to load the data. Please list the steps.
Is there a possibility to import a table from sql 2000 into sql 2005 express? I have a table exportet from sql2000 to csv, adjusted "FALSE" and "TRUE" into 0 and 1 and saved it to csv. Now I want to replace a table in the sql2005 DB by the csv. (The first row contains the header, each row contains a record.
Is it possible to import tables into a SQL 2000 Database via an ODBC connection? The source files are dBase III (*.dbf) and reside on a different network from the SQL 2000 server. If so, would it then be possible to update those files via the same method?
I am trying to import unidata into SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.
I can successfully import data into MS Access. It is simple. I just tell Access to look at the appropriate system DSN, put in the server, database name and password, and there are all the tables to choose from.
The ODBC data source is not one of my choices in the Import/Export Wizard in SSMS.
How do I use the Import/Export Wizard to import unidata?
we have recently purchased a server with sql 2005. One of the things we are looking to do is pull our entire informix database over onto the sql box. I have tried using the import/export wizard however when it comes to the copying I the option to copy all tables is greyed out. I have been able to do this sql to sql but not when i select the source as odbc and destination as sql.
I need to try and resolve this quite quickly and any advice/help would be appreciated. Please bear in mind that im relatively new to this stuff. I have had a look at other posts, and am getting the impression that this cannot be done simply. My initial understanding was that this could be done using the DTS in sql 2000 quite simply, but was also told that it should be even easier in 2005..
when i run this function i get an error : "You cannot use ODBC to import from, export to, or link an external Microsoft Jet or ISAM database table to your database"
when i try to import in the same way a dbf file (insted the csv file) with VFP it's working well.
what seems to be the problem? how can i fix it? or if some one know how can i import a large csv file into access DB in an efficient diffrent way?
How do you import using integration services or what ever to import from a Citadel database? I have created an ODBC Data Source using National Instruments ODBC driver for Citadel? I have tried using Microsoft Access, but the field names are longer than 62 characters and Access won't "link" to the ODBC Data Source.
The SQL Server Management StudioTasksImport Wizard doesn't appear to have a way to specify an ODBC Data Source.
I'm trying to import data from an Oracle database into SQL Express. Basically I have a database that's local to my machine (C# front end with a SQL express back end) but I need to tie in some data from an Oracle database. The reason I'm trying to import it instead of just using a connection in C# to hit it is that I need to be able to access the tables while I'm offline so I need a local copy. I couldn't find any references on doing it through stored procedures or anything like that. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
A view named "Viw_Labour_Cost_By_Service_Order_No" has been created and can be run successfully on the server. I want to import the data which draws from the view to a table using SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. Does anyone encounter this problem before and know what is happening?
I am attempting to import data from Microsoft Access databases to SQL Server 2000 using the DTS Import/Export Wizard. I have a few errors.

I am not sure how to implement the following, but I believe it entails using DTS, and hopefully it is fine that I post it here b/c ultimately I will need this backend data for my frontend .aspx pages:
On a weekly basis, I need to IMPORT some data located on a remote Oracle DB into SQL Server 2k. Since there is so much data to transfer, I would only like to transfer the data that is new to the table since the last IMPORT, i.e. a week ago and leave behin the OLD data.
Is DTS the correct way to go or do I have more control via DTS with STORED PROCEDURES? Does anyone have any good references for me?
On a similar note, once this Oracle data is IMPORTED into a certain table, I would like to EXPORT some of these NEWLY acquired rows matching certain criteria into another table for auditing purposes. For this scenario, should I implement a TRIGGER UPDATE event here on the first table?
On localhost this application works fine but when I put on remote server. I am getting following errors. For both localhost and server, I am using same remote sql 2000. I will appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Arif

I understand that SQL 2005 now supports XML documents. I have a rather large file that is in XML format that I need to get into a table in SQL2005. I have tried the import wizard to no avail. I even tried to use DTS packages in SQL 2000 and still no luck.
Does anyone know of an article or information I can obtain on how to import data from and XML file to a SQL 2005 Table?
Here is a basic idea of the data as it is shown on the first row of the XML file.
A data reader is using a connection manager to connect to an ODBC System DSN . A query in the SqlCommand property is provided. Data is being truncated in the only string column . The data type in data reader output-->external columns shows as Unicode string [DT_WSTR] Length 7.
The truncated output in a text file is the first 3 characters from left to right . Changing the column order has no effect.
A linked server was created in SQL Server Management Studio to test the ODBC System DSN using the following:
Data returned using "OPENQUERY" does not truncate the string column indicating that the ODBC Driver returns data as expected with sql 2005, but not with the Data Reader.
I'm stumped. When using the classic asp page, the table produced on the web has 4 rows. But, when using the asp.net 2.0 side against the same stored proc, I get double the rows - 8. However, when I pull from the sql table directly there are only 4 rows. Any ideas? I've looked at this far too many hours...da = New Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter("pTblTempDisplayInsert2 0,'" & coList & "','" & tblList & "','" & varTblNameT & "'", cn) da.Fill(ds, "myTables") For Each drow As System.Data.DataRow In ds.Tables("myTables").Rows varTxt &= drow.Item( "titleID") & "<br />" Next I get:18521850205520531852185020552053If I run the last line of the stored procedure with the variable table name filled in:SELECT d.titleID FROM ##varTblName d LEFT JOIN xtblTitles t ON d.tblID=t.tblID LEFT JOIN tblStatTitles s ON d.titleID=s.titleID LEFT JOIN xtblURL u ON u.urlID=t.urlID ORDER BY d.tblID, d.[year], d.lineOrder, d.countyID I get:1852185020552053If I do a simple select * from ##varTableName, I get four rows....Thanks,Janet
I need to transfer data from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 nightly. Replication DB1.T1 table in SQL 2000 to DB2.T1 table (the same table structure) in SQL 2005. What are my options? I need to extract a daily data and do this daily. Some example would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
I have a SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 servers separately, but by whatever reason, I can't use SQL 2000 Enterprise Mgr anymore now so I have to use SQL 2005 Mgm studio to open up my SQL 2000 databases now.
However, I'd like to export data from Sql 2000 to another Sql 2000 server, but via a Sql 2005 mgm studio interface right now. How can I do so? I can't find "Export Data" from the "Task" context menu in Sql 2005 mgm studio.
Hello, everyone. I am having problems catching a data duplication issue. I hope I can get an answer in this forum. If not, I would appreciate it if someone can direct me to the right forum. I am working on a vs2005 app which is connected to a sql2005 db. Precisely, I am working on a registration form. Users go to the registration page, enter the data, ie. name, address, email, etc. and submit to register to the site. The INSERT query works like a charm. The only problem is that I am trying to reject registrations for which an email address was used. I put a constraint on the email field in the table and now if I try to register using an e-mail address that already exists in the database I get a violation error (only visible on the local machine) on the sql's email field, which is expected. How can I catch that there is already an email address in the database and stop the execution of the code and possibly show a message to the user to use a different address? Thank you for all your help.
