Howto Insert A Null DateTime Into A Sql Server 2005 Database

Apr 2, 2008

I'm importing data form an Excel file to a Sql Server Database. Some of the data imported represents time as a double type so i convert the times into DateTime to be inserted into the database. The time values that aren't available in the Excel file are 0.. so what i want to do is insert null into the database for all the values that are 0 in the excel file... How do i do that based on this code i have so far:protected void ButtonImport_Click(object sender, EventArgs e){PanelUpload.Visible = false;PanelView.Visible = false;PanelImport.Visible = true;LabelImport.Text = "";OleDbCommand objCommand = new OleDbCommand();objCommand = ExcelConnection(); OleDbDataReader reader;reader = objCommand.ExecuteReader(); while (reader.Read()){DateTime? in_1 = null;DateTime? out_1 = null;DateTime? in_2 = null;DateTime? out_2 = null;   int emp_id = Convert.ToInt32(reader["emp_id"]);DateTime date_entry = Convert.ToDateTime(reader["date_entry"]);if (Convert.ToDouble(reader["in_1"]) != 0)in_1 = ConvertDoubleToDateTime((double)reader["in_1"]);if (Convert.ToDouble(reader["out_1"]) != 0)out_1 = ConvertDoubleToDateTime((double)reader["out_1"]);if (Convert.ToDouble(reader["in_2"]) != 0)in_2 = ConvertDoubleToDateTime((double)reader["in_2"]);if (Convert.ToDouble(reader["out_2"]) != 0)out_2 = ConvertDoubleToDateTime((double)reader["out_2"]); ImportIntoAttendance(emp_id, date_entry, in_1, out_1, in_2, out_2);} reader.Close();}protected void ImportIntoAttendance(int emp_id, DateTime date_entry, DateTime? in_1, DateTime? out_1, DateTime? in_2, DateTime? out_2){ SqlDataSource AttendanceDataSource = new SqlDataSource();AttendanceDataSource.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SalariesConnectionString1"].ToString();AttendanceDataSource.InsertCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.Text;AttendanceDataSource.InsertCommand = "INSERT INTO Attendance (emp_id, date_entry, in_1, out_1, in_2, out_2) " +"VALUES ('" + emp_id + "', '" + date_entry + "', '" + in_1 + "', '" + out_1 + "', " +"'" + in_2 + "', '" + out_2 + "')"; int rowsAffected = 0;try{rowsAffected = AttendanceDataSource.Insert();}catch(Exception ex){LabelImport.Text += "<font color=red>" + ex + "</font><br />";} }private DateTime ConvertDoubleToDateTime(double dbTime){string[] SplitTime = dbTime.ToString().Split('.');string hours = SplitTime[0];string minutes = String.Empty;string time = String.Empty; if (dbTime.ToString().IndexOf('.') != -1){if (SplitTime[1].Length >= 1){if (SplitTime[1].Length == 1)minutes = Convert.ToString(Convert.ToDouble(SplitTime[1]) * 10);else if (SplitTime[1].Length > 1)minutes = SplitTime[1];}}elseminutes = "00";time = hours + ":" + minutes;return Convert.ToDateTime(time);}

Error Trying To Import MS Access 2003 Database Via SQL Server Import And Export Wizard - Too Many Sessions Already Active

Nov 29, 2006

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.

I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.

Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:

- Prepare for Execute (Error)

There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.

Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

HOWTO: Installing SQL 6.5 On Windows 2000 Server

Jul 23, 2005

You may have a requirement that you cannot change where you have oldapps, such as Delphi 3 apps (in my case), that must hobble along untilthe BIG migration money comes into migrate to something better. Andthose old apps may require that you keep SQL 6.5 on the backend. In mycase, that's the case, unfortunately. And Microsoft has completelydried up support for it.You may find that you can't install SQL 6.5 Enterprise Edition onWindows 2000 Server -- it may say that it needs to be NT 4 EnterpriseEdition. I did some testing and have come up with the hook around thisproblem:1. Copy the contents of the SQL 6.5 Ent Edition CD to your hard drive.You're going to need a lot of space.2. Edit the i386setup.inf file (once you have made it not read-only)and find the lines that refer to an if/then statement about "EntOnly"(note no space before Only). When you find this if/then statement,comment that block (about 5 lines, if not mistaken) out by puttingsemicolons as the first character on each line.3. Now run the install by doing something like E:i386msetup.exe, ifE: is your hard drive where you have installed the files copied fromCD. It will run without complaining about the NT 4.

Import CSV Data To SQL Server Database

Sep 21, 2004

Hello everyone,

I need help with a situation that iam facing right now.

Here is the problem:

I have a tab limited or comma delimited CSV file. I want to read the contents of that CSV file and import it in one of the tables in the database.

id firstname lastname
-- ---------- ----------
"1" "John" "Smith"
"2" "Louis" "Garcia"

I assume that the columns in the CSV files and the table in the database match the datatype.

What would be a good approach to do it ? If anyone have a code that does the job, please post it.

Thank You.

SQL Server 2000 Database Import

Mar 10, 2005

Help needed!

I am a final year uni student and as part of my project I've developed a .Net site with a SQL Server 2000 backend.

This week a virus hit our house and my PC got infected (despite anitvirus and firewall!). Anyway, I have had to format my hard disk and reinstall everything.

My site is back in the wwwroot folder and looks fine, trouble is I need to get the database back up and running.

Before I wiped the disk I took the .mdf and .ldf files from the data file in the SQL Server folder in Program Files.

How can I get my database backup and running.

Ive tried creating a new database (with the same name as the .mdf and .ldf files) and replacing the default created files with the copies I saved but this didnt work.

Any help would really be appreciated as I have to demo this to my lecturers soon and my whole grade is riding on it! (no pressure)

I want to import the data from specific Access Database and Table to SQL Server, using SQL Script. I am trying to implement the solution as given in this link. URL....Here is the code that I have tried -

sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1;
GO
RECONFIGURE;
GO
sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1;
GO

[code]...

The access database file path is - 'C:SQL ProjectTestDB1001.mdb'.The Table from which I want to import the data is - [Table1001]. but when I run this script, I get this error -9 The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "MSAccessConnect" reported an error. Authentication failed.

Secondly I need to make 2 more changes to the code posted above.

1.If some access database .mdb, has got password protection, then how to include the password in the script, so that one does not have to manually feed in the password during data import work.

2. How to limit the data that is to be imported from the table [Table1001] by including a WHERE Clause, like for example - SELECT * FROM [Table1001] WHERE xdate = '2015-9-16 00:00:00.000')

Import Directory Structure Into SQL Server Database

Jan 23, 2008

Hi,

As stated in the subject, I need to import a complete directory structure, from a root folder that I specify into a SQL Server database. To add further complexity, I also need to see what files exist in each directory.

At the end of the day what I am trying to achieve is to populate a table that will essentially have two columns, the filename and the directory that the file resides in. I am running SQL Server 2005.

Has anybody ever done anything like this before using T-SQL?

Thanks in advance.

Import SQL Server Express Database Into Visual Web Developer

I can access an SQL Server 2005 database from VWD, but for ease of uploading to a server and to maintain the database within just VWD environment would like to import it directly into VWD and its App_Data folder from the local machine SQL Server.
I guess this is more than copy and paste ('especially since this is not allowed becase the database is being used by another program').
I've seen posts about the reverse process but not this way. Any simple pointers please?

Got An Error When Trying To Import Multiple Tables From One SQL Server 2005 Database To Another

Oct 1, 2007

We just upgraded from SQL Server 2000 to 2005. In the past, when I ran the import/export wizard to copy multiple tables from one database to another with SQL Server 2000, I had no problem. Now when I used the import/export wizard to copy multiple tables with SQL Server 2005, I kept getting an error. For example, when copied three tables, the first table might be copied fine and I got an error with the second table and the whole thing stop. Sometimes I could copy two tables. However, when I ran the import/export wizard to copy each table one at a time, it worked.

The error that I got was "Cannot insert duplicate key in object..." I selected the options to "Delete rows in existing destination tables", and "Enable identity insert". What am I doing wrong?

Import Excel Spreadsheet Data Into SQL Server Database Table Using SqlBulkCopy

Dec 13, 2007

Hi, I'm a Student, and since a few months ago I'm learning JAVA. I'm creating an application to call and compare times. For this I create in Excel a time table which is quite big and it would be a lot of typing work to input one by one the data in each cell in SQL Server, considering that I have to create 8 more tables. I was able to retreive the data from excel usin the JXL API of JAVA but it doesn't give all the funtions to perform math operations as JDBC. That's why I need to move the tables from Excel to SQL.
I found this site http://davidhayden.com/blog/dave/archive/2006/05/31/2976.aspx which gives a code to do so, but I guess that some heathers are missing or maybe I don't know which compiler to use to run that code, I would like you help to identify which compiler use to run that code or if there is some vital piece of code missing.// Connection String to Excel Workbook
string excelConnectionString = @"Provider=Microsoft .Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=Book1.xls;Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=YES;""";

// Create Connection to Excel Workbook
using (OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection(excelConnectionString))
{
OleDbCommand command = new OleDbCommand ("Select ID,Data FROM [Data$]", connection);

connection.Open();

// Create DbDataReader to Data Worksheet
using (DbDataReader dr = command.ExecuteReader())
{
// SQL Server Connection String
string sqlConnectionString = "Data Source=.; Initial Catalog=Test;Integrated Security=True";

// Bulk Copy to SQL Server
using (SqlBulkCopy bulkCopy = new SqlBulkCopy(sqlConnectionString))
{
bulkCopy.DestinationTableName = "ExcelData";
bulkCopy.WriteToServer(dr);
}
}
}
On the other hand in this forum I that someelse use that link but implements a totally different code which I'm not able to compile also http://forums.asp.net/p/1110412/2057095.aspx#2057095. It seems this code works as I was able to read, but I do not know which language is used.

Dim command As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand("Select ID,Data FROM [Data$]", connection)

Dim sqlConnectionString As String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("CampaignEnterpriseConnectionString").ConnectionString

' Using

Dim bulkCopy As SqlBulkCopy = New SqlBulkCopy(sqlConnectionString)

Try
bulkCopy.DestinationTableName =
"ExcelData"
bulkCopy.WriteToServer(dr)

Finally

CType(bulkCopy, IDisposable).Dispose()

End Try

Finally

CType(dr, IDisposable).Dispose()

End Try

Finally

CType(connection, IDisposable).Dispose()

End Try

Catch ex As Exception

The Compilers I have are: Eclipse, Netbeans, MS Visual C++ Express Edition and MS Visual C# Express Edition. In MS Visual C++
