SQL 2012 :: Importing Excel Table Into Existing Table?

Aug 25, 2014

I am using the DTS wizard and having problems importing excel into an existing table.

Problem is that various column in excel are defined as double in the wizard but in my db table it is defined as an integer.

How do I get around this issue so the data types in excel can match up accordingly to my defined data type in my db table?

The wizard does a bad job of guessing the correct data type.

I have heard of using a staging table to import from excel and using that as my source to import into my existing table.

Importing Data From Excel To Update Existing Fields

May 12, 2004

I have an excel file that contains column A with names of components and products followed by column B which has each respective quantity on hand. I want to import that data to our website's SQL database that has a products table with a column, Pf_ID, that has only product names not component names and In_Stock which contains out-dated information that I want updated from column B of the excel file.

I think I've figured out how to use DTS and update the two fields, but I'm afraid that when everything runs new entries will be created with component information. Is it possible to specify that only rows where Pf_ID matches some row in column A that same row's column B will be used to update the data in In_Stock. I may have just made things too confusing than they need to be, but I don't have much experience with EM or Excel.

I'm also considering trying to write a macro that will match Pf_IDs in an exported excel file of the products table and take rows out of the excel file with current quantity information putting them in a new excel file to import into the website's database.

Please help, this is getting really confusing.

Importing Textfile Data To Existing Table (append?)

I have an existing table I need to add data to. The data is in a text file, and the existing table already has data in it (I don't want to delete this I want to add to it).

I used Microsoft's import utility but this created a seperate table with generic fieldnames (column01, column02, ect). Is there a step in this wizard I missed?

Importing Excel Into MS SQL Table

Sep 12, 2006

Hi.

I have done this successfully the last time but just couldn't get it to work this time round. Please help.

I was trying to import data from an Excel file into MS SQL table. NONE of the numeric or value fields (right justified) works because they shown <NULL> in MS SQL table after the import via DTS. Those string fields were able to import ok into the table. DTS didn't show any error message during the DTS run.

Any advise? Thank you.

Best regards

these files contain aproximaly 400 rows so it will be a hasle to have to insert it manually every week.
In my web application I need to create a form where the user will select the card from a dropdownlist and then find the excel file to be imported for that card.
I would like to know how do I do that with Visual Studio 2005, SLQ 2005 and C#
please direct me to some links where I can learn how to do this or please send me some code snips I can see how is done.

Inporting Attached Excel File Into Existing Table Adding Info

Jul 25, 2005

Hi all,I have a problem and need some ideas.What I have done: I created a page to upload an excel file into a SQL Server table along with some customer info (from the login, day, etc.). This excel file contains several rows (some of them may be blank) and columns (also some may be blank). The file is stored in an image object.The file will be checked (they want to do it manually, because contents is a problem). If they say it is OK, I want to run a program to add a record into an existing table with the request no. (from the first table, where the object is stored) and all the information available from the filled rows (first row is header). I have a column, which can be checked, if the row contains data or not.Any ideas?I know how to read from and write the contents of the object to a field in the SQL table. Can I use this?Thanks for any idea / code / link.

T-SQL: Import Excel List Into SQL Server Table

I asked a similar question like this yesterday but i didnt work the way I wanted it to work. So I will ask in a diffrent way:

I have an Excel list which i want to import into a table in my SQL Server 2005. The ServerTable has one more column (for the the primary key which is created automatically) than the ExcelList. How can i import the ExcelList in a way so that I the first column of my ServerTable is not filled by a column of my ExcelList??

That is how far I came:

select *
into SQLServerTable FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Excel 8.0;Database=D: esting.xls;HDR=YES',
'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]')

Importing Existing DTS Packages.

Oct 31, 2006

There doesn't seem to be a specific group covering legacy subsystems so I thought I would post this in here.

I have several hundred of these to import that are going to be left to run as they are until such time somebody has the time to migrate them to SSIS.

I have to say I'm not look forward to doing them one at a time using the brain dead UI (it folds up folders behind itself causing another two mouse click between each import). Is there a way of automating this import?

Thanks.

Importing Data (Overwrite Any Existing Records)

Mar 19, 2007

Good Morning,  I need some assistance with SQL Server 2000 Importing Data.
When I import data from a text on a routine basis, three things must happen:
1.  New records identified by primary key get appended to table.
2.  Exisiting records identified by primary key get overwritten with new/(updated) data.
3.  All other existing records are left alone.
Does anyone know how to Import Records with the following the criteria above?  It cannot insert duplicate primary keys by nature, so it must overwrite those records!
This is being built into a DTS Package, but I need to get over this obsticle!  Thanks for any guidance!

SQL Security :: Importing Existing PEM Certificate Into Server

Oct 26, 2015

I must prepare a procedure which should export some data from some DB columns, but these data must be encrypted using the OpenSSL protocol, to be sent to an external recipient.This recipient sent to me a "public" certificate in PEM format, to what I understood (it is a file beginning with the expression "-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----", then a long Base64 sequence and then "-----END CERTIFICATE-----").

Then I didn't create the certificate nor I am a certification authority: I just have this public key (or, at least, a file from which I can extract a public key) and I must use it to encrypt data in order to obtain an output which must be analogue to what I can obtain when using this OpenSSL command line instruction:openssl rsautl -encrypt -in CF.txt -out CF.enc -inkey SaniteICF.cer -certin -pkcs

Then the question is: starting from this PEM file and nothing else, can I import it and store an asymmetric key or a certificate in SQL Server and use it to encrypt data to be exported?

TSQL + VBA Excel 2003 - Importing Data From MS Excel 2003 To SQL SERVER 2000 Using Multi - Batch Processing

Sep 11, 2007

Hi,
I need to import an SQL string from MS Excel 2003 to SQL SERVER 2000.
The string I need to import is composed by 5 different several blocks and looks like:

Code Snippet

CommandLine01 = "USE mydb"
CommandLine02 = "SELECT Block ..."
CommandLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"
CommandLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CommandLine05 = "SELECT Block..."

The detail of the SQL string is at:
http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=2093921&siteid=1&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=1

I am trying to implement OJ's suggestion:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2117223&SiteID=1
to use multi - batch processing to import the string to SQL SERVER, something like:

Code Snippet
Dim SqlCnt, cmd1, cmd2, cmd3
'set the properties and open a connection

cmd1="use my_db"
cmd2="create table mytb"
cmd3="insert into mytb"

SqlCnt.execute cmd1
SqlCnt.Execute cmd2
SqlCnt.Execute cmd3

Below is the code (just partial) I have, and I need help to complete it.
Thanks in advance,
Aldo.

Code Snippet
Function TestConnection()
Dim ConnectionString As New ADODB.Connection
Dim RecordSet As New ADODB.RecordSet

ConnectionString = "Driver={SQL Server};Server=myServer;Database=myDBName;Uid=UserName;Pwd=Password"
ConnectionString.Open

CmdLine01 = " USE " & myDB
CmdLine02 = " SELECT ACCOUNTS.FULLNAME FROM ACCOUNTS" ...

CmdLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"

CmdLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CmdLine05 = "SELECT Block..."

RecordSet.Open CmdLine01, ConnectionString
RecordSet.Open CmdLine02, ConnectionString

ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine01
ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine02

'Retrieve Field titles
For ColNr = 1 To RecordSet.Fields.Count
ActiveSheet.Cells(1, ColNr).Value = RecordSet.Fields(ColNr - 1).Name
Next

ActiveSheet.Cells(2, 1).CopyFromRecordset RecordSet

'Close ADO objects
RecordSet.Close
ConnectionString.Close
Set RecordSet = Nothing
Set ConnectionString = Nothing
