How can I import it to mssql?
I'm about to embark on writing some code in perl or VBscript that automatically synchronises a constantly updated Access database with an MSSQL database.
I know MSSQL has an import tool built into Enterprise manager but I'm wondering if theres a stored procedure that does this?
The way I'm thinking of doing it is to read the all the access tables into separate hash arrays and then INSERTing them into the MSSQL database after checking for any duplicates. This all sounds a bit time consuming (there are a large number of tables) and processor intensive.
If anyones done anything like this before, I'd love to hear their views......!
Hi there,I've done some searching around on this subject and can't findanything helpful or non-expensive so far.I need to export some tables from my companies Oracle server locallyso I can work on a reporting tool which (hopefully) will speed somethings up on our weekly report runs. I know I could just use an ODBClink and get the data directly from our server but unfortunatly it'snot the newest or fastest of things and these are pretty big reports,so my idea is to export the tables and run the queries through anMSSQL database on a faster machine. However, not being an Oracle or MSSQL developer I'm not too sure howto export the tables I need. I've looked all over for a script or atool to help me do this, but all I have found are tools that cost ahell of a lot of money, and for something that I don't even know willwork just yet, I don't want to put a PO through for nothing.I was wondering if anyone has ever used a script that is available ora GPL'd tool that might help me out here? Or at least point me in thedirection so that I can get started on this. Thanks in advance for any suggestions--Stuart

I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file. After importing a data into the mdb file, above column data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?

I'm new to SQL server. My huge data is there in DB2. I tried to import using SSIS import/export wizard, it does successfully with default datatype columns.
for example, If my DB table has numeric columns, it has been imported as "double" and if it is string, it has been impoerted as "nvarchar". Is there any way to have correct/equivalnet datatype import from DB2?
Hi, I need transformation data from files Btrieve (.dt) to any other formats. Where i can download driver ODBC or OLE DB for Btrieve? And how install this driver? Thank.
Hello,Our company often receives data from outside sources to add to our application. This data is usually provided to us in Excel, CSV, XML, etc. The files that we receive usually have different columns from the columns in our database, so we have to map these columns to our table structure to import.I'm looking for an application that will easily allow me to load up the data file (whatever type it may be), expose the columns in the data file, allow me to map these columns in our SQL server, then import the data. I know that this can be done as DTS, however I'm looking for alternatives. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
When I create a DTS package to import this column, only the values without a hyphen get imported correctly..and a null value will show for the numbers that have a hyphen in it.
I've set my datatype to varchar, float, nvarchar, text, etc in SQL Server 2000...but nothing seems to work. I have also changed the datatype in my excel spreadsheet to text, general, etc.
I've tried so many combinations, I forget which ones I've tested...Anybody have an idea what I should try ?
Can anyone help me??! What is the best way to import data from One Worldinto SQL Server? If it's possible to use DTS then should I use the OLEDBconnection object? Many thanks,Steve
I have a table for authors (for our bookstore) that has several fields(firstname, lastname, etc.) and an author_id field (set as identity)I'm trying to import a spreadsheet into this table, but keep gettingerror messages that say I can't import data into the author_id field(the identityf field). Can someone suggest what I can do to overcome this? Thanks,Bill
Hi, I created SQL Server package and schedule the job. SQL Server allows us to connected different database for e.g. for oracle using "Oracle Provide for OLD DB" to retrieve our database. A link is create between this database which move the data to SQL Server. I'm sure there is no issues in the link, as I'm using it to retrieve several oracle database which contains both Arabic and English data.
But after Importation it is showing Junk values. Please advise me what step I should take next.
I need to import csv data into a SQL Server 2005 database using SQL Server Management Studio Express. I can't find any menu options for accomplishing this. Is this a limitation of the Express edition, or am I missing something when I try to find this feature? Thanks for any help provided.
I have a web application I created in asp.net + sql2005 and am deploying a genercized version of it to multiple clients. I have created a script which dynamically generates a database to a server and creates all of the tables, procs, and views. I now need data from the old database, which will be imported into the new database. It's basically default users, lookup values, etc. What are some methods of getting this data out of the old server and into the new server? I was thinking about generating flat files with the data, then writing code to loop through and insert the data, but it seems very tedious. Do I have any other options? I cannot use Backup and Restore because I have no access to the new sql server's filesystem.Thanks.
Hi,I have to find a way to do the following : a company provides for my company a web page displaying data separated with ;I need to automatically update a table in SQLServer with this data, ie delete the old data, read the web page containing new data as text, and insert these data into the table.I would actually prefer not to trigger this import process "by hand" ; if there's a solution to schedule it ...Thanks for your helpJohann
I'm trying to import data into an SQL Server (7.0) and I'm wondering which Source (Microsoft Data Link, Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle, Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server, etc.) -- I THINK we would use the SQL Server driver but I'm not sure... to use AND WHERE TO GO FROM THERE? So far, I get seem to get things to work in my favor. I appreciate any help :) The data I'm trying to import is from Microsoft Excell. If there is anything else you need to know, please email me at iami@iami.org Please provide email/forum-based technical support.
I have excel file that has field named Purpose. Its max length is 400 character. I import this file to sql server database table. And also i change the purpose field in sql server database table with nvarchar 400. But when i run this job, it gave me error message:
Error at source for row number 1215. Errors encountereed so far in this task: 1. Data for source column 18 ('Purpose') is too large for the specified buffer size.
What should i do so that i still can import the data from excel to sql server database?
I have gone through most of the question posed by people, about importing data from EXCEL sheet to some table using SQL server database. I have a slight variation of this problem.
My excel file contains some information apart from the normal data. Lets say some 5-6 lines always gives me some info about the data, like its purpose, client info, date etc... After this INFO my actually data start, which I want to load into table.
I have found some wizard for the same, "EMS SQL MANAGER 2005", which supports most of the file formats, and load data into the database.
But we are planning to not use this tool, instead everything should be done using TSQL.
If somebody can please gives me some idea how this problem can be tackle, it would be a great help. We won't be using any Third party tools, like scripting etc...
HiI've got an Ingres database of some 200 tables which I need to importevery night into SQL Server 2005 for use by Reporting Services. Mostof the tables will come across unchanged (a few need massaging tohandle time intervals correctly), but the Import Wizard only seems towant to import one table (or more accurately query) at a time. I seemto remember the old 2000 Import Wizard handled multiple tables - isthere any way of processing multiple tables in 2005, or must I resignmyself to writing 200 import packages in SSIS.Chloe CrowderThe British Library
I have software that uses SQL Server Express as it's database. I am only able to import so many records until it stops and fails to allow me to import anymore.
I'm very new at this but, is there some type of limitation on Table size that's preventing me from importing anymore data?
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me,
I am using Windows 2003 server and Sqlserver 2005 by the use of Linked server , I made a connection to Oracle 10g after that I am importing records from Oracle to sqlserver 2005. When I made tnsnames.ora in sql machine , it worked fine but when i am using tnsnames file from oracle server then i fiired importing procedure it returns below maintain error :
OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "BI_ORACLE_LS" returned message "Unspecified error".
OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "BI_ORACLE_LS" returned message "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.".

Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES" for OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "BI_ORACLE_LS". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
Hi, I would like to import an Excel spreadsheet into SQL Server 2005. I can do this quite easily using the Import/Export wizard, and have each row in the spreadsheet transfer to a new row in the database table. However, I want to import the first few columns of the spreadsheet row into one table (called Products), but put the remaining columns into a related, three-column table, called Product_Details. In the Product_Details table, one column would hold the spreadsheet column value, the other column would be a FK integer value linked to the PK in the Products table, and the third column the primary key as normal. So, somehow, I would need to get hold of the primary key value when the first spreadsheet columns are inserted into the Products table and then insert the remaining columns into the Product_Details table with two values per row - one value being the spreadsheet cell value, the second being the primary key of the new product in the Products table. TIA, Graham.
Hi all. I want to export data from excel 2003 to sql server 2005. I am using the following script: EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1; GO RECONFIGURE; GO EXEC sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1; GO RECONFIGURE; GO Insert into Pamphlet Select * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Excel 8.0;Database=C:Pamphlet.xls;HDR=YES', 'SELECT * FROM [Sheet3$]') But it is giving the following error: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error. Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)". The above script is working fine with Excel 2002 but not with 2003. Can someone please provide me exact script of importing data from excel 2003 to sql server 2005. I have also tried the Linked server option but it is still giving the same error. Please help me.
Hi, Would like some help on how do I go about coverting an Excel File with columns of info into my SQL Server Database. The excel file will be uploaded from a user from my web application. I completely have no idea on where to start so any form of help is much appreciated thanks.
Just installed SQL Server 2005 Eval version and Management Studio does not display any Import/Export functions to load data into tables of an existing database. I thought that this feature was turned off only in Management Studio Express.
I have a simple Integration Services project and the problem is that decimal fields are importing as real (I'm loosing the digits behind the decimal point).
The project contains a data flow task importing a flat file (.csv) to an SQL Server destination. My .csv file has two decimal type fields. Example:
Field 1: 12345.67
Field 2: .123456
My database table that I'm importing to has two fields. The only way that I can get this data to import is to define the fields as "float" in both the text file and database table. I want the database table fields to be defined as decimal or numeric, not float:
Field 1: decimal(7,2)
Field 2: decimal(6,6)
When all fields are defined as decimal (in both the flat file and database file), I get the following results:
Field 1: 12345.00
Field 2: .000000
How does one import decimal data from a flat file (.csv)?
