In SQL2005 Standard && Enterprize Editon And Replication
Aug 24, 2006
Hi All,
I like to know that in SQL2005 how many replication sides we can create for the same database. Can we create more that one are only one for each database.
Hello, can I run the express edition on my desktop and test web site with it, but then deploy the same app to my webhost and have it use SQL2005 standard? (They don't support the express edition.) I'm new to SQL2005 and am curious. In fact, I still don't totally understand if express is installed or just a file like access. :) Thanks! Stephen Rylander
I have downloaded Microsoft SQL 2005 trial and now have this running perfectly with our main database. Before I did this I checked to make sure that you could indeed unlock trial with a valid number, and the MSDN site said yes it can be done. I have now purchased the full Standard edition, and wish to enter the product key into the trial version to unlock. How do I do this ???. I have spent 3 hours on the phone today with over 11 different departments, and they all give me conflicting info. Eopen say it cant be done and that I have to uninstall the trial, and then completely re-install STD edition (I DEFINATELY DONT WANT THIS !!!!)
They put me to tech support who say it can be done, but I have to pay for this information ...Excuse me but I yesterday paid over £4000 for the software and now they wont help me unless I pay for support !!!!! http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx says it is an acceptable upgrade path but dont say how to do it. .
Eopen say this is not true !!!
How do I unlock SQL 2005 Trial version and down grade it it to a full blown STD version with my licence number I have. Can someone please tell me how this can be done.
If anyone knows, can they please email me at rob.wheeler@ehbp.com with instructions.
I have got a licensed copy of MS SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition. I am wondering how I can go about telling how many Processore Liscenses or Client Licenses I have with it. I have just the disk set and product key, no box. Any clues?
Hi , We are using the a 4 CPU SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition for our application , We want to migrate to SQL2005 with the compatibility level downgraded to SQL2000. If we go for the SQL2005 Standard edition is there any problem? We are not using the Failover clustering in our server.
I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 on a Server 2003 Enterprise edition SP2 and fully Patched with all critical updates, including .net 3.5 Additional Information, this is on a Virtuial Server. When I try to install it fails near the beginning and the log file contains the following.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.1399.06 ============================== OS Version : Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, Service Pack 1 (Build 3790) Time : Mon Mar 24 07:34:15 2008

After doing some search engine digging I found some referances to simuilar problems being caused by .net. I tried uninstalling first 3.5, then 3.0 then 2.0sp1, at which point the install worked with only one error that SQL Management studio was unable to register (A bunch of black lines) although the sql installation seems to work. I then reinstalled .net 3.5 (Which also reinstalls 3.0 and updates 2.0 to SP1. Again S!QL seems to be healthy.... My Questions are: 1) is there a better way to do this??? 2) If I do it this way do you see any l;ong term problems?
Can anyone comment on the engine performance difference between SQL2005 Enterprise Edition versus Standard? I'm talking generalized performance of the engine and not admin features (parallel index operations) or scaled-storage (partitioning)
The marketing literature makes note of two things:
Enterprise can use more then 4 processors
Enhanced read-ahead and scan (super scan) (note: I cannot find anything about this 'feature') One un-noted Feature:
only Enterprise supports 'lock pages in memory'
We are in the process of migrating from SQL2000 to SQL2005 in an OLTP environment. Based on the marketing literature; I would have chosen SQL2005-standard. But based on our limited testing, we are seeing some strange differences.
Query Performance
With MaxDOP=1 and using a large batch query (select top 1500000); SQL2005-Enterprise is twice as fast as SQL2005-Standard.
(Note: this difference persists regardless of lock-pages-in-memory setting)
CPU Utilization
In addition, taskmgr shows that SQL2005-Enterprise uses a single processor at ~90%. While SQL2005-Standard shows a single processor at ~20%.
Lock Behavior
We are also seeing lock-behavior differences. A single DML statement that attempts to modify ~5000 rows will cause Table-locks on SQL2005-Standard but obtain normal row-locks on SQL2005-Enterprise.
These empirical differences make me wonder if the engine codebase is fundamentally different between the two?
I have a distributor setup on SQL Server 2005 (9.0.3042) and am trying to create a publication on SQL Server 2000 (8.0.2040) which receives the following error in my production environment:
Msg 8526, Level 16, State 2, Procedure sp_addpublication, Line 802
Cannot go remote while the session is enlisted in a distributed transaction that has an active savepoint.
The interesting part of this equation is that I was able to get this to work without error in my DEV (development) environment and well as my QAT (test) environment. This end result was that my distributor was SQL 2005, my publisher was SQL 2000 and my pull subscriber was SQL 2005. I have been diligently comparing our production environment to my other environment and have yet to find differences.
Has anyone else seen an error similiar to this? Any insight would be appreciated.
I want to replicate from SQL2000 to SQL2005. I had configured distributor, publisher in SQL2000 and also subscriber in SQL2005. But so far no replication was done on SQL2005. I wonder SQL2000 (SP2) and SQL2005 replication will it work? Is it true that I should install Service Pack 3 and above in order to replicate my database to SQL2005.
Hi, We are looking into implementing SQL 2005 on one box and have SQL 2005 Reporting Services run on another box with its own replicated database. Mirrioring would not work in this scenario as the primary box has to be down for the secondary box to accept any incoming request.
My questions here is Microsoft website states that Transactional replication is supported for SQL 2005 Standard Edition, but I did watch some presentation on microsoft website that states that you need to have the Enterprise Edition to enable replication.
Can anyone tell me this is possible or not with the Standard Edition ?
Hi all, I am using Business Intelligence Developement Studio2005 for SSIS. I am using "Foreach Loop Container" in ssis. I want to make package Dynamic, for that i have mentioned Enumerator Configuration( folder, and files). But when i am opening "Property Expression Editor", i am unable to see the property "Connection String". iI have "Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services" book. On page 140 of this book, there is an example to make package dynamic but by using "Connection String" from Property. I think this option is available only with Enterprise Edition. Is it possible with other edition? I dont have the option "Connection String","DataRows To Skip","File Usages Type", and some more. It means I dont have enterprise edition?
I have setup sql 2005 transactional replication system with three machines (publisher, distributor and subscriber). Couple weeks later, publisher with publications is disconnected from replication monitor (under My Publishers €“ show X on the publisher machine name). I didn€™t change any things. Can you help for this please?
SQL2000 used to send a 2 part update using sp_msdel followed by sp_msins instead of just calling sp_msupd. I thought this used to happen on tables with compostie primary keys. Does any know know if this still occurs in SQL2005 and maybe why?
I just installed SQL 2000 personal edition on a win xp pro box and now when it boots I get a SQL service manager error that says service manager has generated errors and needs to be closed.
Is there anything particular with XP and SQL 2000 i need to know?
I thought this would be a no brainer as it was with Win2k, but no.
I have a database that is about 300 gig. I am setting up replication to a reporting server. We are doing a series or mock loads and I will need drop the tables and reload the main database a few times before we go live. To do that I plan to stop replication and drop all the articles, drop the subscription, then load the new data, then reinitialize and restart replication.
The first time I tried to do this, when I drop the articles, it seems to be trying to "clean up" the distribution database on the reporting server and that is taking a couple of hours to do. The disruption database is about 40 gig.
Is this correct behavior in SQL2005 replication? Is there a way to avoid this? I have all the replication pieces scripted out and would like to just drop replication, reload, and then run my scripts to recreate replication. But this "clean up" is going to cause me a lot of headache if I don't figure out what is going on.
Am I going down the wrong road here? Is there an easier way to do this? Any comments would be great!!!!
Although clearly specified in the replication notes for SQL server 2005. I am wondering whether I still have some options for replication using the Standard Edition of SQL 2005. I see that subscriptions and publications are still a part of the menu. Am I still able to set up an oracle 8< database as a publisher which SQL can subscribe to???
My experience so far...I can access Local Subscriptions from the replications menu. There I can attempt to find a publisher, an oracle publisher is given as an option. The message I get is as follows: "To find an Oracle Publisher, you must first connect to the SQL Server Distributor that has been configured to work with that Publisher. In the following dialog box, specify the name and login for the Distributor."
I installed SQL Server 2005 and want to practice the "Creating a Mobile Application with SQL Server Mobile" in SQL Server Mobile Editon Tutorials, but I can't find the file sqlmobile.sql listed in "C:" according to tutorial document.
I am investigating the feasibility of a configuration with 3 databases on SQL2005
DB_A is an OLTP database and serves up transactional publication pub_txn - with updateable subscriptions
DB_B is a subscriber database which subscribes to pub_txn
DB_B is also a publisher which serves up merge publication pub_merge
DB_C is a subscriber database which pulls pub_merge
===============================
Updates on DB_A are successfully replicated to DB_B
Howvever, when DB_C pulls updates, it doesn't find the update sent to DB_B
===============================
Updates on DB_B are successfully replicated to both DB_A and DB_C
===============================
Updates on DB_C initially failed with the error
Msg 916, Level 14, State 1, Procedure trg_MSsync_upd_course_type, Line 0 The server principal "repllinkproxy" is not able to access the database "DB_C" under the current security context.
I then changed the login repllinkproxy to be a db_owner in DB_C
I now get the error
Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_check_sync_trigger, Line 23 Invalid object name 'dbo.MSreplication_objects'.

I have three questions as a result 1) Is there anything fundamentally wrong with what I am trying to achieve?
An ASP.NET website hosting service allows the use of Enterprize Manager to manage the backend database of a hosted asp.net website. This is not done across a VPN and I don't think it could be done on SSL so the question is : How Secure is that? would this be ok for learning but not Ecommerce? Or is it an encrypted session and I paranoid?
Can anyone tell me a cheap way to get this software, (Enterprize Manger and Query Analyzer). I am tyring to upsize to SQL Server with my Webhost and they are not very helpful in how to best do this.
So I am guessing I need these to connect to my new SQL Database. I know Microsoft has a trial version but isn't there a development version that I can run on my local XP and or 2000 machine and hook up to my webhost SQL server?
I have developed a SSIS dts package, its running fine from my computer, but the problem is when I am deploying it on actual server then giving me error for connection
scenario,
development env: dev006
three servers: srv01 (64bit), srv02 (32bit), srv03 (32bit)
in development environment, same package is getting data from srv01 and pushing it to srv02 and srv03, but when i am deploying it on srv01 then it fails to establish connection with srv01. If I have a Business Intelligence Studio on 64bit then I will check it but that Studio is available for 64bit environments.
I am running MS SQL Server 7 with SP3 installed and am having some problems getting replication to work correctly. I want to replicate all tables from one database to another database on the same server. I can setup replication, add publications and add subscriptions without any problem and all goes well until the replication process starts when the job aborts because it cannot find the sp_MSins..., sp_MSupd... or the sp_MSdel... stored procedures. I have used the New Publication wizard to create a Transactional publication, published all tables and allowed the wizard to use the default stored procedures which it says will be created when the subscribers are initialized but although I have created push subcriptions the stored procedures are never created and hence the replication fails whenever the job runs.
I have SA access to the databases concerned and as far as I am aware the jobs are running as my login - can anybody help me out as this is beginning to drive me nuts.
I have just installed Visual Studio 2005, but I cannot install MS Sql Server 2005 at all. It gives me an error that says look in Program FilesMS SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGFiles and there is a file which contains the following:

Also, the SQL Server express also did not install at all when I was installing VS 2005 Pro.
I am trying to connect to sql server from a small c++ program , I am getting the following error
An error has occured when establishing connection to server. The failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings does not allow remote connections.(Sql network interfaces error no 26 error locating server instance specified )
I chkd the default settings and it allowed remote connections. I also have default instance for the sql server
I am running the following ENTERPRISE version of SQL Server, I am admin on the box and do not have the New data-driven Subscription showing up on the Subscription tab.
Does anyone have any ideas why?

I'm interested in combining the Peer-to-Peer Transactional Replication and Standard Transactional Replication to provide a scale out solution of SQL Server 2005. The condition is as follows:
We may have 10 SQL Server 2005 (1 Publisher + 9 Subscriber) running transactional replication in the production environment and allow updates in subscribers. To offload the loading of the publisher, we plan to have 2 Publisher (PubNode1 and PubNode2) using Peer-to-Peer Transaction Replication and the rest 8 subscribers will be divided into 2 groups. The subscribers 1-4 (SubNode1, SubNode2, SubNode3, and SubNode4) will be set to be standard transactional replication subscribers of PubNode1, and the rest 4 subscribers (SubNode5, ..., SubNode8) will be set to be standard transactional replication subscribers of PubNode2.
Is it possible to setup above 2 Publisher + 8 Subscriber topology? Also, could we set the 8 subscribers with updatable subscriptions to achieve each node is updatable?
We do not plan to set all the 10 nodes using Peer-to-Peer Transactional Replication as it is necessary to make sure n*(n-1)/2 (i.e. 45) peer-to-peer connections is reliable. It seems that the maintenance cost is high if the servers are not in a LAN and the topology is very high coupling. So we prefer to divide the 10 nodes into 2 groups and reduce the cost of each node to maintain the connections to all other sites.
