In Keyword And Multi Value In Single Parameter

Aug 29, 2007

Hello

I created a table adapter with the following query

select * from building where buildingname in (@param1)

I used the query builder to the test the query and it works ok if I pass a single value

ex: name: @param1 value: Building1

but when I use the value: Building1, Building2 then it doesn't return anything

If i do a direct sql: select * from building where buildingname in ('Buiding1','Buiding2') returns many rows.

Now I have a class that has the following function<System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute(ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Select, False)> _

Public Function getBuilding(ByVal building As String) As myDataSet.buildingDataTableReturn adapter.getBuilding(building)

End Function

When I call this function I try to pass the building value sorta like

dim building as string = 'Building1,Building2'

and it doesn't work. I tried a whole bunch of variations.

How are you supposed to format the parameter string?

Thanks

Peter

The multi-value parameter works when it isn't run in the if, else clause i checked the where clause with a single paramter and it works OK. I don't understand what is causing this problem but I really need to fix it. Here is my query.

SSRS Toggle Parameter Between Multi-Value And Single Value Based On Another Parameter

Feb 4, 2008

I would like to be able to adjust the multi-value property of a parameter based on the value of another parameter in my report. The controlling paramter would be binary with two options for Single or Multiple selection. I would like my parameter to default to multi-value, which I can do on the screen selection. I have tried to add an IIF statement to the XML code, with no success. Any ideas would be helpful.

Pass Multi-values In A Single Parameter For Stored Procedure

Apr 16, 2013

I got issue when passing multiple values to a single parameter. Here is my stored procedure as following:

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[School]
@Grade AS varchar(50),
@Class As varchar(50)
AS
BEGIN
SELECT Name, Grade, Class
FROM School
WHERE Grade = (IsNull(@Grade, Grade)) AND Class IN (IsNull(@Class, Class ))
END

In the front end, I got multiple values for Subject parameters such as Math, English, Reading, etc... in a specified class. How do I can modify my above stored procedure to receive multiple values for a single parameter.

Multi Value For Single Parameter (reporting Services SSRS 2005)

May 1, 2008

Hi,

I'm using SSRS 2005 which connects to SQL Server 2005. I need to pass Multi valus for single parameter...

E.g. Command type : Text
SELECT * FROM COUNTRY where CountryId IN ( @CountryID)

If i tried to preview using single parameter, it shows the record without any problem. However when i tried to put multi values, it gives error message?? I read somewhere which says, need to set to multivalue. But, i could not find the place to set the multi value option...

How to solve it?? Your suggestion/recommendations greatly appreciated.

Transact SQL :: Passing Multi-valued Data As Single Parameter In Query

Jul 2, 2015

I have a sp where query is as below.

DECLARE @ServerCIName varchar(5000)
SELECT * FROM dbo.INC
WHERE Status in ('Assigned','In Progress','Pending')
and Description like '%' + (Select * from SplitDelimiterString(@ServerName,',')) + '%'
and (select DATEADD(dd, DATEDIFF(dd, 0, (Submit_Date)), 0)) = (select DATEADD(dd, DATEDIFF(dd, 0, getdate()), 0))
In place of "and Description like '%' + (Select * from SplitDelimiterString(@ServerName,',')) + '%' ", if I use "and Description like '%' + @ServerName + '%' " and pass a single value, it works.

But @ServerName contains multiple values and it is dynamic (not constant).

How do I query the data?

Multi-value Parameter In Master Report Passing To Single Param Sub-report In A List.

Aug 20, 2007

Here's tricky one.

I have a fairly complex report that was given to me that was hard coded for single parameters. There is a dropdown for each market (created from a query in SSRS). The users have to run for each market each week.

Is there a way to use this report as a Sub-report inside a list of a master report and then use a mult-value parameter?

I want this multi-value parameter to build the values for the list and then run the "sub-report" for each value.

Essentially, I want to create a for each loop.

Any ideas?

Multi Keyword Search SP

Jul 23, 2005

Is it possible to write a Stored Procedure that takes a string ofsearch keywords as argument and returns the recordset? At the mo I ampassing the WHERE String as argument.I got this technique from an Extreme Ultradev tutorial by Rick Curtisit looked quite ok:http://www.princeton.edu/~rcurtis/u...tutorial12.htmlI have to admit, one of the main reason for passing the WHERE string isthat I do not know how to do the string splitting / parsing and puttingtogether in a Stored Procedure. I bet T-SQL would be just as powerfulas VBScript if I just knew it well enough. What I liked about having built them on the web script was theflexibility allowing to potentially build an advanced search withouthaving to change the stored procedure - but this is not crucial I couldalways write several stored procedures or add parameters to the SP.Here is what I have achieved in this way:User can enter one ore more keywords separated by space.Search algorithm returns results across a number of fields where ALLsearch words are contained in any of these.Search results will always be formatted a certain way and displayed ina html table no matter how the search procedure / criteria is varied. Here is the algorithm (that now works in ASP)1. split search string into separate keywords2. build where condition based on single keyword, concatenating allsearched fields (" AND f1+' '+f2+{' '+f<n>} LIKE %<keyword>%")3. concatenate all these where conditions and pass to stored procedure.4. stored procedure takes care of all other logic (e.g. Joins, whichfields are searched etc.). It uses a string variable @SQL to build thecomplete search string and then doesexecute (@SQL);to create the recordset.I bet there is a way to move 1. 2. and 3. into the SP (and I would feelbetter if it was) but I don't have the expertise to do this. If anybodywants to help me this is very welcome.I can also post my original code to clarify, just want to avoid toolong posts.CheersAxel

Reporting Services :: Multi-value Parameter Not Passing In Subreport Parameter List

Jul 29, 2015

I have two report , first is main report which is matrix and have one parameter User_ids which is multi value selection and my second report is basic chart of user_wise performance.

Now, my main report (matrix ) works fine for Multiple selection of users and i have putted one textbox on main report chart which has action properties set for chart report, when user click on chart button it must goes to chart with user selected in main report. Now , i have used expression for parameter to send it like ..

=join(parameter!user_id!value,",") which pass selected value to chart

And when I am selecting single user it passing that value to chart parameter list but , when it is more than one user it errors with conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '121,128' to data type int. But my chart also works when passing 121,128 in user parameter in preview of report .

Using The IN Keyword With A Parameter In A Stored Procedure

May 19, 2008

Here is the beginning of a stored procedure that I am trying to use as the source of data for a Reporting Services report.

Code Snippet
CREATE PROCEDURE udsp_mrkt_anal
@source varchar(8000),
@weeks int

AS

DECLARE @campaigns table (glcid int, campdate datetime)
DECLARE @entitycamp table (enid int, glcid int)
DECLARE @campcount table (glcid int, opps decimal (18,0), revenue money)
DECLARE @camps table (opid int, begdate datetime)

INSERT into @campaigns

SELECT glcid, [date]
FROM gl_campaigns
WHERE source IN (@source)

So, what I am trying to do is allow users to pick multiple source ids to be returned in the report. However, SQL doesn't see them as that in the stored procedure and I am assuming is just converting them to a string for example: '1, 2, 3, 4'

My question is, how can I make this work with a stored procedure and having the user pass multiple ids through, in this case, a report parameter? The same solution would probably work for just executing the sp straigt out as well.

Passing A Parameter For Consumption Of IN Keyword In A Stored Procedure

Nov 14, 2007

Hi all, what's the recommended way of passing a parameter than can be consumed properly by a SQL statement using the IN keyword.

For Example:

proc Test @Param varchar(200)
as
begin

SELECT FieldA, FieldB
FROM TABLE
WHERE FieldA IN (@Param)

end

An option is making the query into a string
strSQL = "SELECT FieldA, FieldB FROM TABLE WHERE FieldA IN (" + @Param ")"

then executing the string, but I was wondering if there is a more effective way?

Thanks

Jump To Report && Multi Value Vs. Single Value

Mar 22, 2007

I have a parameterized main report that contains a link to a sub report with parameters. Then from the sub report I have a link that takes you back to main report. If I use multi value parameters or single value parameters the links going back and forth between the two reports works just dandy, when I run it on my PC. However when I deploy the reports to the Web Server, the link going from the sub report back to the main report only works if the parameters are single select. Going from the Main to the Sub it doesn€™t matter.

This is the error I get using multi select parameters going from the sub report back to the main.

The path of the item "(null)" is not valid. The path must be less than 260 characters long and must start with slash. Other restrictions apply. (rsInvalidItemPath)

Any suggestions?

Multi-formatted Text In A Single Texbox

Apr 24, 2007

The latest similar question is almost a year old and hasn't been definitively answered. I'm designing a certificate type report where the declaration text uses static and dynamic text generated in an expression for the textbox. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be an obvious way of formating sections of the text expression with different font sizes, weights and attributes to depict the effect desired. E.g. I want one textbox to say:

This Certifies that {a field value} was blah blah blah by {another field value} etc.

Can this be done in a regular textbox? If not, are there any work-arounds to accomplish the same effect. BTW, I'm working in RS 2005 flavor with VS 2005 Report Designer.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Multi-thread Tasks Using A Single Connection Object Concurrently

Jul 20, 2005

is it possible to use a single connection object shared by severaltasks where each task is handled by a thread? these tasks call storedprocedures that return record sets, no editing, update or delete.my objective is that db connection is expensive and each user can onlyhave 1 connection object. each user submits a request to the webserver, and the result web page construction consists of a number ofresult sets obtained from several stored procedure from the samedatabase instance.i could obtained my result sets by making each sp call one at a timebut was thinking whether i could instead break up the tasks, create athread for each task that shares the same db connection objectconcurrently. the connection object will be alive until all tasks arecompleted, that is if the final object ive could be achieved in ashorter time. No connection pooling here.i am wondering over questions like:1. within the same db instance, if 2 stored procedures need to accessthe same table, does SQLserver queue-up and service one request at atime.2. would there be any problem using the connection object this way, sharing between multiple theads?3. is it possible that a 'dead-lock' may occur within the DB?of cos this whole idea can be absurd and into the trash if theconnection object doesn't support multi-thread and is queue based inthe first place.pardon me if my SQL server basics is off track. been doing too manyother things.thanks, meng

Getting Results With Stored Procedure From Single Textbox Searching Table With Multi Columns

Feb 12, 2007

I admit I am a novice to queries and stored procedures but understand stored procedures are more secure, so I am choosing to challenge myself with a stored procedure and have not been successful at all.

What I am looking for is a stored procedure which would query the single table named Hospital, which would search from a single textbox the end user would enter the text they are searching for on a Windows VB application but is dependant on a few end user selected items.

1. The end user can select a radio button either "Starts with" or "Contains"
2. The end user can select from 6 checkboxes (Hospitals, Address, City, State, Zip, Type) to limit or expand their search from the columns in the table.

The table has 17columns (CO, PARENTCO, ADDR, POBox, CITY, State, ZIP, TEL, FAX, WEBSITE, HOSP_TYPE, OWNERSHIP, BEDS, CONTACT, TITLE, Email) but I am only allowing the end user to search by the above 6 columns and need to display the above 6 columns plus the phone, fax and website columns.

After the user clicks the search button it displays the results in a listbox and the user will then select the one they want and it displays the information in another set of textboxes.

Hopefully someone can get me pointed in the right direction! Thanks for your help!

Multi-value Parameter Calculation

OK Guys....

If you answer this one, you will save my life...and you WILL be the MAN or WOMAN!!!!

Problem: I have a set of 24 matrix's that need to calculate the difference between the last two years and display in a field to the right of the last rendered column. Since I have been struggling with this, let's just assume there is no better way than how I currently have it set up. (one table that does the calculations for me and I set one field on the report to display the most recent two columns difference in my report)

what I can not figure out is: when I choose one of my parameters the report displays the information I want...but when I choose more than one...well there is the problem....

In order to obtain the most help for myself I will ask this in the most general way possible so as not to get bogged down into my specific solution...

Desired Result: How to pass all my parameter values from my multi-value parameter during runtime to a SQL Stored proc from my dataset within Reporting Services at runtime, Match the parameter to the field, get the result and store it in a variable, then do it again and add the second to the first within the variable, and so on and so on , until all of the parameters are used. Then sum the values and display in a field.

Empty Multi-value Parameter

Apr 24, 2007

Several people have asked about this, but I have not seen a response that works. I have several parameters that I want to use as filters. If a particular filter parameter is not entered, the report should not apply a filter on that criterion. It works fine to create a single value parameter which allows null, and use the following in SQL:

WHERE ( [Field1] = @Field1_Filter OR @Field1_Filter IS NULL )

How can the same effect be achieved for a multi-value parameter? If you try to create a multi-value parameter which allows null, the report builder gives an error. I can't use "allow blank value" because some of my parameters are integer parameters. Without the allow null, the report generator requires me to enter at least one value. So I don't know how you can get a value of "not entered" into a multi-value parameter.

I also don't know how you would check for the "not entered". Someone suggested the following SQL:

WHERE ( [Field1] IN (@Field1_Filter) OR @Field1_Filter IS NULL )

This generates an error when generating the report if multiple values are entered for the parameter (the normal condition). The error is " An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near ',' ".

How is this supposed to be done?

Thanks for any insight

Multi Value Report Parameter

Feb 1, 2007

HI there.

I have been working on this for quite some time and I can not figure out what I am doing wrong.
I have a report filter called ItemFilter and I have declared as a report parameter where the multi value checkbox is checked. The values from this filter are coming from the item table.
SO the users drilldown on the filter when they run the report an select the Items that they would like to display info for. I had the following code before in the where

where
([CRONUS International Ltd_$Item].No_ = @itemfilter). This only worked if they selected on item from the list.

I want them to be able to select multiple Items or all. The code above did not work because there were commas separating one item from the other and I was getting an error.

I changed to

whrere

([CRONUS International Ltd_$Item].No_ IN (@itemfilter)).

Now this only returns the first item that I enter on my Itemfilter parameter.

Does anyone have any clue in regards to this ?? I am sure I am using the wrong syntax, but I do not know what to change it too.

Thanks

Multi-Value Parameter Width

Good afternoon,

I've designed a Reporting Services report that has a multi-value parameter. The report works just great. The only issue I'm running into is that the users are complaining that when they want to select the values, within the multi-value parameter box, they have to scroll it to the sides way too much. This also makes them select values by mistake.

Is there away to inscrease the width of the multi-value parameter box?

Best regards.
