Issue With File System Task And Folder Locking

Jul 4, 2006

I'm having an issue where a folder that I'm accessing in an SSIS package gets locked up and cannot be deleted by my package later in the process.

1) I use a File System task to rename the folder. At this point, it appears to become locked and cannot be deleted.

2) Later I attempt to delete the folder using another File System task object. I get the error '[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."'.

My package accesses the folder via a drive mapping. This seems to be part of the problem, as it's possible to delete the folder directly but not via the drive mapping. Even once the package completes it's still not possible to delete the folder in Windows Explorer via the drive mapping.

Integration Services :: File System Task Move Directory Deletes Parent Destination Folder

Mar 12, 2013

I attempted to use Move Directory to move the contents of one directory to another.  I encountered the 'different volume' issue that others have experienced.  While this error is frustrating I can work past this particular issue. My more pressing question is why is the move directory command overwriting a destination directory?

When I setup the Move directory file task I provided two vars to hold src and dest location:

dest var:  estserveroutput
src var: devserverdev estfiles
Set overwrite destination = TRUE

Why would Move Directory overwrite output folder at destination?  Shouldn't it only overwrite if the testfiles directory exists at destination?  This is very frustrating since I cannot find enough information in the official documentation to understand what is happening here.

Is it just me or does the documentation for Move directory seem.....incomplete?

Moving Csv File From One Folder To Another Folder

Mar 28, 2008

I am having problem with moving a file from one folder to another folder. Here is the detailed scenario:

I want to move a input.csv file from shared input folder to shared archive folder. i am using the below code to do this.
declare @inpath varchar(100)
SET @inpath = 'move "\abcdefINPUTinput*.csv" "\abcdefARCHIVEarchive.csv"'
EXEC @filestatus = master..xp_cmdshell @inpath
but the problem was it was cutting the input.csv file from INPUT folder but not pasting it in the ARCHIVE folder.
I really appreciate if anyone can help me to solve this or anyone can tell some workarounds.

Thanks,

How To Read File Information From Source Folder!

Mar 6, 2008

I am new to SSIS and I am trying to do following thing using WMI Reader Task.

I have developed SSIS package which import data from flat files.
Now I have to add following functionality to SSIS package

Before SSIS package load data I would like to check If there are all files in source folder and check the files are with current date.
If both condition true then only load data.

After some research i found that WMI uses specialized query language known as WQL, which is similar to SQL, to obtain information on files and directories.

Also i found that Under WMI Reader Task editor properties you can write WQL query to receive file information from source folder.

Can Anyone suggest me What WQL query i have to write to retrive file information from Source folder?

Or

Any Other suggesion i should approach?

Please advise me!...Any help would really appriciated...

Transact SQL :: Check If UNC Path Exists (It Is Folder Not File)

Oct 29, 2015

Usual way to check if file exists

DECLARE @File_Exists INT
EXEC Master.dbo.xp_fileexist 'serverBSQL_Backupfile.bak', @File_Exists OUT
print @File_Exists

1

And if check folder, can use "nul", but it doesn't work for UNC path

DECLARE @File_Exists INT
EXEC Master.dbo.xp_fileexist 'serverBSQL_Backup
ul', @File_Exists OUT

print @File_Exists
0

If use xp_subdirs like:

 EXEC master.dbo.xp_subdirs 'serverBSQL_Backups'

If the folder doesn't exists,

Msg 22006, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
xp_subdirs could not access 'ServerBSQL_Backups*.*': FindFirstFile() returned error 67, 'The network name cannot be found.'

How to check if UNC folder exists in Backup? in my code I want to check if the unc folder exists before doing backup, the unc path is retrieved from other table or backup history.

To List Ssis Packages Stored In File Folder

Nov 13, 2007

Hi,
newbie to sql2005. I am trying to write a VB.NET program to list all ssis packages we have stored in a file folder (not in MSDB) where both SqlServer and ssis servers are located. These packages currently running on daily basis by automated jobs with no problem.

I have found the following link on the web that includes VB.Net program. If you scroll down under Example (SSIS Package Store) , you'll see a VB.NET program that I am trying to get it to work for me but keep getting error message like "Cannot find folder......"

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms403343.aspx

My goal is to:
1. List all ssis packages stored in the file systems (.dstx)
2. List DB source and distination providers(tables in/out) in a ssis package
3. List properties for DB providers
4. List FlatFile & Excel file provider properties in a ssis package.
My assumption, but not sure, is that I may need to register this file folder (where packages are located) to the SqlServer if that is not done already. Any command or sys table in Sql2005 to figure this out?

I would appreciate any help on this in advance.
Thank You.

Use Of Brackets (parenthesis) In File / Folder Names In Windows

Mar 19, 2008

Hi,
On x64 versions of Windows server 2003, there is a folder called "Program Files (x86)". The use of parenthesis in this name has caused a few issues so far, particularly with connecting SQL Server 2005 to Oracle using SSIS. After several hours of searching I realized that the parenthesis was causing it, and eventually I found that the best way is to avoid creating such a name while installing the OS itself, by using winnt.sif. This would be better than renaming it and changing registry entries after the installation is done.

I realize this may not be the best question to ask of Microsoft, but why not just call it "Program Filesx86" by default so no special procedure has to be done to get around these issues? The use of parenthesis is likely to cause even more compatibility issues with other software later?

BTW I use Microsoft products regularly and love most of them

Help Getting Error When Using Operation Rename A File In The File System Task Editor?

Aug 18, 2006

Does anyone know how to do this using variables?  Everytime I try it, I get the

Error: Failed to lock variable for read access with error 0xc00100001.

I also tried it writing a script and still the same error.  If I hard code the values into the variables it works fine but I will be running this everday so that it will pull in the current date along with the filename.  So the value of the variables will change everyday.  Here is my expression:

@[User::Variable] +(DT_WSTR,4) YEAR( GETDATE() )+"0"+(DT_WSTR,2) MONTH( GETDATE() ) + (DT_WSTR,2) DAY( GETDATE() )

The result:

C:Documents and SettingsmroushDesktopOSU20060818

the 20060818 part will change everyday ie.(tomorrow will be 20060819, next day 20060820 and so on.)

File System Task - Move File With Dynamic Destination Path

Oct 9, 2006

I am having an issue with the File System Task.

I was wondering if there is a way to 'Move File' with the File System Task inside of a For Each Loop container but to dynamically set the Destination path variable.

Currently, this is what I have:
FileDestinationPath variable - set to C:TestFiles
FileSourcePath variable - set to C:TestFiles
FileNameAndLocation variable - set to blank

For Each Loop Container €“ Iterates through a folder C:TestFiles that has .txt files in it with dates in the file name. Ex: Test_09142006.txt. Sets the file path (fully qualified) to the Variable Mapping FileNameAndLocation.

Script Task (within For Each Loop, first step) €“ Sets the FileDestinationPath to the correct dated folder within C:TestFiles. For example, if the text files I want to move are for the 14th of September, it takes FileDestinationPath and appends the date folder to the end of it. The text files have a date in the file name (test_09142006.txt) and I am picking this apart (from FileNameAndLocation in the For Each Loop) to get the folder date. (dts.Variables(€œUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value = dts.Variables(€œUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value & €œ€? Month & €œ_€? & Day & €œ_€? & Year & €œ€?) which gives me €œC:TestFiles9_14_2006€?.

File System Task (within For Each Loop, second step) €“ This is where the action is supposed to occur. I want it to take the FileDestinationPath and move the FileNameAndLocation file (from the For Loop) into this folder for each run.

Now as for my problem. I want this package to run everyday but it has to set the FileDestinationPath variable dynamically according to that day€™s date. Basically, how do I get this to work since I can€™t hard code the destination path variable from the start? I have the DestinationVariable on the File System Task set to the FileDestinationPath variable, after the script task builds it. However, using FileNameAndLocation as the SourceVariable on my File System Task tells me that the €œVariable €œFileNameAndLocation€? is used as a source or destination and is empty.€?

Let me know if I need to clarify further€¦...I may be missing something very simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

SQL Server 2008 :: SSIS Copy File From SharePoint Library Using File System Task Permissions?

Jun 19, 2015

Historically I've always written a VB script to copy a file from a sharepoint library. I don't like this method because I have to input a username & password in the script and maintain a config file.

Yesterday I was playing around with using a file system task. The sharepoint file has a UNC path so why not? I created a simple test package with a single file system task that copies the sharepoint file (addressed via UNC) to another network location. Package runs fine locally.

I try running on our utility server but am getting a "The file name [SHAREPOINT UNC PATH] specified in the connection was not valid" error. Package is running with a proxy on the server and the proxy account has the same permissions to the sharepoint site (so far as I can tell) as me.
