View 1 Replies View RelatedHola!I'm currently building a site that uses an external database to store all the product details, and an internal database that will act as a cache so that we don't have to keep hitting the external database to retrieve the products every time a customer requests a list.What I need to do is retrieve all these products from External and insert them into Internal if they don't exist - if they do already exist then I have to update Internal with new prices, number in stock etc.I was wondering if there was a way to insert / update these products en-mass without looping through and building a new insert / update query for every product - there could be thousands at a time!Does anyone have any ideas or could you point me in the right direction?I'm thinking that because I need to check if the products exist in a different data store than the original source, I don't have a choice but to loop through them all.Cheers,G.

I have a web form with a text field that needs to take in as much as the user decides to type and insert it into an nvarchar(max) field in the database behind. I've tried using the new .write() method in my update statement, but it cuts off the text after a while. Is there a way to insert/update in SQL 2005 this without resorting to Bulk Insert? It bloats the transaction log and turning the logging off requires a call to sp_dboptions (or a straight-up ALTER DATABASE), which I'd like to avoid if I can.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got four pages with in the first page a insert, in the second a select, in the thirth a update and in the fourth a delete statement. First the values of a textbox will be inserted in the database, then the values will be shown in labels and than it is possible to edit or delete the values inserted. Every inserted item belonging to each other has one ID. The follwing values has a second ID etc.
How can I make that possible?? I think that I should pass the ID's between the pages so I'm sure that I edit or delete the values that I want. So insert value 1 in page 1, show with select value 1 in page 2, edit or delete value 1 in page 3 and 4.
Maybe I didn't explain it good enough for you, please tell me then!!

I'm just getting started with using SQL Server Mobile while creating a handheld app using Visual Studio 2005. So far, I have succeeded in RETRIEVING data from the mobile database, but I don't understand why my INSERT nor UPDATE statements will not work. (I'm assuming they don't work, because after I run my code via the debugger, I oddly get no error message, but when I "open" the table in the Server Explorer, I do not see my expected results. Do I need to do some kind of "commit" or something? Here's my code. Thanks for any help! - Sue

it posts and the page loads but the data is still the same in my datagrid. what could be wrong with this simple statement... i've tried testing the statement above with constant values of the correct type but i don't think that matters because the SqlCommand() accepts a string only anyways.. doesn't it?
Greetings. I have been trying to develop an SSIS package that updates external data (Visual FoxPro tables) from SQL Server 2005. I have tried this various ways: using various Data Flow task components that flow to an OLEB Destination; using an Execute T-SQL Task; and even trying Management Studio interactively with the OpenDataSource('vfpoledb', etc.) statement. For each of these techniques, I have no problem performing a SELECT from the VFP data. Also, I have no problems performing an INSERT of new records using any of these techniques. However, both UPDATE and DELETE of existing records fail.
Is it possible the the OLE DB driver doesn't support UPDATE and DELETE operations? It appears that I'm not allowed to change or delete existing records, only add new ones. Or, are there other techniques I can be trying?
I am aware that updating FoxPro data can be performed by pulling the data from SQL Server into FoxPro. For our purposes, it would be more convenient if the processes could be initiated and managed from the SQL Server side of things instead.

Soo the question is: When creating a SQLDataSource in the wizard you get to the pont where you select the option . It says that by using this datasource you can select to update delete and insert. So my question is if i am creating a select statement to reterieve the data from the Table, then what does it do it do if my intention is to only reterie the data. Or what is the other way that it could be helpful to me ??

As known its recommended to use stored procedures when executing on database for perfermance issue. I am thinking to create 4 stored procedures on my database (spSelectQuery, spInsertQuery, spUpdateQuery, spDeleteQuery)
that accept any query and execute it and return the result, rather than having a number of stored procedures for all tables? create PROCEDURE spSelectQuery

We have a rather large environment and have just a couple of boxes out there that we are getting cannot begin distributed transaction on inserts and updates but works fine on selects. Inserts and updates work fine outside the begin tran / commit so it's definitely DTC
We have checked the configuration on and the source box is set to No authentication required same for destination.
We have: Verified credentials running the service, changed them, same problem. Uninstalled and re-installed MSDTC per Microsoft instructions.
Have run all the tools for checking DTC DTCPing etc and followed those procedures which typically in the past has resolved any DTC issues. Other than swapping out the offending pc for a new one we are at a loss.
Hello, I recently view a webcast of sql injection, and at this moment I created a user, and give dbo to this user, and this same user, is the one I have in the connection string of my web application, I want to create a user to prevent sql injection attacks, I mean that user wont be able to drop or create objects, only select views, tables, exec insert,update, deletes and exec stored procedures.
Is any easy way to do this?
A database role and then assing that role to the user?
I have a GridView dispalying from a SQLServerDataSource that is using a SQL Select Union statement (like the following):

I am wondering how to create Update and Insert statements for this SQLServerDataSource since the select is actually driving from two different tables (Master and Custom). Any ideas if or how this can be done? Specifically, I want the Custom table to be editable, but not the Master table. Any examples or ideas would be very much appreciated!

I have a situation that i have to insert or update
the data from sql server 7.0 to Oracle 8+Database.
the requirement is that
if the data is not in Oracle
then Insert the data
else if the data exists
then Update the data.
I dont know how to use in DTS. DTS Documentation says
that u can use DataQuery but they had not given the example.
Second thing is how to connect to the Oracle
using ACtive X Script - DTS.

I have a table called drugs with a cost, date, and drugname field. I have a history table that I want to insert into anytime the fields are changed in the drugs table. I want to capture the old data along with the new cost. is that possible in a update trigger? What I have below doesn't like when it comes to setting the new cost

I'd like to do the following thing with a data flow task
Get all the records from a source (for example customers from a textfile, flat file source)
Then check for each record if the customer already exists in a table, for example with a customerID. If not, insert the record in the table (ole db destination), else copy the customer thats already in the table to another table (history table) and update the record with the customer from the textfile.
Is this possible?, and what kind of data flow transformation do I need?
I am new to integration services. I am trying to a build a data warehouse and need to be able to insert new data as well as update data that has changed. I am getting the data in a flat file and need to import it into SQL 2005. I saw some post on www.sqlis.com/default.aspx?311 but I did the example is for OLE DB component. Im using a store proc in SQL server.I use one table to store my hockey statistics data of each player in the league.When i submit my form i would like to check if there is any sheet of that player that allready exist .. If so then i do update.. if it does not exist i do the insert statement.Here the way i figured it out ! One store proc to do the work of the insert or update. And one to check if the player exist in the statistics table. But i just cant find a way to return a good value from my second store proc. How do i update the stats of tables when we insert data into it. I believe Auto stats update happens only when 500+ 20% of the rows are changed for a table. Once we insert say some 1000 records in to a particular table the query time takes too long (more than 1 min). The same query executes faster once i manually update the stats.
