Hi,I am getting this error: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.I'm trying to insert data into a table from a gridview, where two of the dates can be empty strings.I have set 'allow null' in the SQL Server table for the two dates, added the culture in the web.config file, and even tried converting the values to DBNull.None of which have worked, and I am still getting the error.This is the code I am using: if (e.CommandName == "EmptyInsert") { if (Page.IsValid == true) { TextBox txtVisitDateIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("txtVisitDateIns") as TextBox; TextBox txtNextVisitDateIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("txtNextVisitDateIns") as TextBox; TextBox txtVisitedByIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("txtVisitedByIns") as TextBox; DropDownList ddlPriorityIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("ddlPriorityIns") as DropDownList; TextBox txtMailshotDateIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("txtMailshotDateIns") as TextBox;
if (txtNextVisitDateIns.Text == "") txtNextVisitDateIns.Text = DBNull.Value.ToString(); if (txtMailshotDateIns.Text == "") txtMailshotDateIns.Text = DBNull.Value.ToString();
SPVisitsBLL visits = new SPVisitsBLL(); visits.AddVisit(Convert.ToInt32(GridView1.SelectedValue.ToString()), Convert.ToDateTime(txtVisitDateIns.Text.ToString()), Convert.ToDateTime(txtNextVisitDateIns.Text.ToString()), txtVisitedByIns.Text.ToString(), Convert.ToInt32(ddlPriorityIns.SelectedValue.ToString()), Convert.ToDateTime(txtMailshotDateIns.Text.ToString())); GridView2.DataBind(); } } I haven't checked txtVisitDateIns to see if it is an empty string as this date is required.Can anyone help?Thanks
I am passing a string to my stored procedure call where I convert it to a DateTime. I have pasted the relevant code below. My trouble is that prior to execution of the stored procedure an error is thrown "String was not recognized as a valid DateTime". The error does not get thrown when I pass it a date, it only throws it when no date is provided. The page I am using is a form to do a search. The search can allow a date to be entered or left out. How do I catch an empty value in the c# for an invalid datetime and still send the variable to the stored procedure. //////////////////////////// C# Code /////////////////////////////////// Passing the Date to a stored Procedure SqlParameter bdpDateFrom = new SqlParameter("@datefrom", SqlDbType.DateTime);bdpDateFrom.Value = Convert.ToDateTime(thisbdpDateFrom);myCommand.Parameters.Add(bdpDateFrom); ///////////////////////// Stored Procedure Code //////////////////////////////////@datefrom datetimeIF ((@datefrom IS NOT NULL) AND (@datefrom <>' '))BEGIN SET @whereclause = @whereclause + ' AND T1.c330101invoicedate_dt >= ''' + convert(varchar,@datefrom) + ''''END Thank you!
hi all, i'm trying to insert the time/date a button was clicked on a gridview and it generates an error:the string was not recognized as a valid DateTime.There is an unknown word starting at index 0 i have changed the culture to en-US but it still doesn't work. i actually created the date/time column after some data had been entered into the table so the column allows nulls. this is my code:InsertCommand="INSERT INTO test101(Surname,Names,Registration,Login Time)VALUES (@Surname, @Names, @Registration,@Login_Time)"<Insert Parameters><asp:Parameter DefaultValue= DateTime.Now Type=DateTime Name="Login_Time" /></Insert Parameters>any suggestions?
I got this error report "The string was not recognized as a valid DateTime. There is a unknown word starting at index 0." at this line of code in BOLD.
For some reasons the datetime format in the database has the (US datetime format - 05/02/2008 06:40 instead of United Kingdom (UK date time format - 02/05/2008 06:40), as I had planned. I have tried to reformat the database and VB date format and all to no success.Could this be the root of my problems?

Is there any conversion needed for millisecond values?

hi there, i have a calendar that i put into a string ilke this string str = Calendar1.SelectedDate.ToShortDateString(); the result is dd/mm/yyyy date which is great, but for inserting into my DB (MSSQL) it needs to be a datetime field, however when i convert it Datetime dtDate = Convert.ToDateTime(str); it takes my date and adds 00:00:00 onto the end and this is not what i want! i just want the dd/mm/yyy how do i do this, it has to be simple but i have been searching for hours and cant find anything, i am using ASP.NET 2 and C# Thanks
I have a datetime field in a database which I am programmatically inserting values into. The field can be null or not null. However, I am having problems inserting NULL as part of my SQLCommand. The value is pulled from a text box (linked to a calendar extender) and when I select a value it is being inserted fine. If I just leave the box blank though, I want the field to be set to NULL. I have tried adding in ,DBNULL.Value, as part of my VALUES(…) string, but this throws an exception. I Have tried just inserting ‘’ but that also throws an exception (“The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value), so I don’t know how I can insert this value when the field is blank? Can anyone shed some light please? Thanks
Hi, I am working with "sql server enterprise manager". How can I insert datetime(i.e. date) value in the datetime column in my database using an sql command?
Eg. If I have a table named Table1 in my database, and this table is composed of one primary key column and one datetime column (named dateofreceipt), how should the syntax look like?

I thought this would be easy. I have a repeater control and a sqldatasource control. I am trying to filter the select statement using DateTime.Now.ToString() and keep getting an invalid date string format. The control is on a content page in my asp.net site. On the master page this <%= DateTime.Now.ToLongDateString() %> works to display the current date. If I try and put <%= DateTime.Now.ToString() %> in the Default value of the SelectParameter it does not work. No intellisense either so I am assuming I am missing something. Here is the code... pretty basic really. <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server" DataSourceID="sqlDSnews"> <ItemTemplate> <h3><%# Eval("newTitle")%></h3> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlDSnews" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:XXXX%>" SelectCommand="SELECT [newTitle], [newsDetails], [dateExpires], [newsImage], [dateCreated] FROM [News] WHERE (([GroupID] = @GroupID) AND ([dateExpires] >= @dateExpires))"> <SelectParameters> <asp:QueryStringParameter DefaultValue="0" Name="GroupID" QueryStringField="Gid" Type="Int32" /> <asp:Parameter Name="dateExpires" DefaultValue='<%= DateTime.Now.ToString() %> 'Type="DateTime" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> ** NOTE the DateTime does not show up in blue - if that helps with a solution **

Hi, I have a problem when I insert a date in a datetime field in a MSSQLServer. That's my problem: if the server is in english version, I have to insert date with this code:
DateTime.Today.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy")
instead if the server is in italian version, I have to insert date with this code:
DateTime.Today.ToString("dd/MM/yyyy")
Is there a way to insert a date in standard way, without knowing the server version?
Using Server Explorer in VB 2005, I am manually entering data in a table in a SQL Server 2005 Express database that includes a DateTime field. I have tried every conceivable format, but no matter what I try get one of these 2 errors:
1. String was not recognized as valid DateTime
2. Operand type class; text incompatible with DateTime
I have Googled this to death, but no example which involves trying to enter the data manually, say from Server Explorer.
Formats tried include all datetime formats (mmddyy, yymmdd, using dashes or slashes, enclosing in single quotes or pound signs).
I would appreciate if someone could please give me an example that I can literally insert without error.
Im trying run a stored procedure, but I am getting the following message when trying to execute it.
Implicit conversion from data type datetime to int is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.
which seems strange, as there is no integer going to a datetime field. Also, it does not return the value that is incorrect, nor the parameter that is failing. If there is anyway to view this in VS 2005 Team suite, please let me know.
It should also be noted that when I execute this sproc from within sql management studio, it executes fine.
This is the stored procedure im trying to execute...
in my .net app, all the datetime objects are valid dates, so I could not see why this would be generating the error that it is, so I ran the SQL Profiler, and this was the output. Again, i cannot see where im going wrong...
please note, I have seperated the output from the single slab of text, making sure I didnt remove anything...
Hi all,I am getting this error when insert values from one table to another inthe first table the values are varchar (10). In the second they aredatetime. The format of the data is mm/dd/yyyy to be easily convertedto dates. The conversion in this case is implicit as indicated in SQLServer documentation. Here is my query:INSERT INTO Campaign (CampaignID, Name, DateStart, DateEnd, ParentID,ListID)SELECT mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_id AS CampaignID,mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_name AS Name,MIN(mysqlfactiva.dbo.programs.start_date) AS DateStart,MIN(mysqlfactiva.dbo.programs.end_date) AS DateEnd,NULL AS ParentID,NULL AS ListIDFROM mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns, mysqlfactiva.dbo.programsWHERE mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_id =mysqlfactiva.dbo.programs.campaign_idGROUP BY mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_id,mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_name,mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.descriptionUNIONSELECT program_id + 100000, program_name, start_date, end_date,campaign_id AS ParentID, NULL AS ListIDFROM mysqlfactiva.dbo.programsUNIONSELECT execution_id + 200000, execution_name, start_date,end_date, program_id + 100000 AS ParentID, NULL AS ListIDFROM mysqlfactiva.dbo.executionsUNIONSELECT wave_id + 300000, wave_name, start_date, end_date,mysqlfactiva.dbo.waves.execution_id + 200000 AS ParentID, NULL ASListIDFROM mysqlfactiva.dbo.waves, mysqlfactiva.dbo.executionsWHERE mysqlfactiva.dbo.waves.execution_id =mysqlfactiva.dbo.executions.execution_idI am referencing programs table two times. If I just select this all Iget all data I need. When doing insert I get a message:Server: Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 1The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted inan out-of-range datetime value. The statement has been terminated.If I execute just first part of the query before first union, I insertdata fine:INSERT INTO Campaign (CampaignID, Name, DateStart, DateEnd, ParentID,ListID)SELECT mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_id AS CampaignID,mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_name AS Name,MIN(mysqlfactiva.dbo.programs.start_date) AS DateStart,MIN(mysqlfactiva.dbo.programs.end_date) AS DateEnd,NULL AS ParentID,NULL AS ListIDFROM mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns, mysqlfactiva.dbo.programsWHERE mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_id =mysqlfactiva.dbo.programs.campaign_idGROUP BY mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_id,mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.campaign_name,mysqlfactiva.dbo.campaigns.descriptionAs soon as I use union I get the above error. This is very strangesince even when I execute the query using first union where the datescome from the same table 'programs' I get the error. Why I can insertfrom programs first time and can's second time?Any help will be appreciated.Thanks,Stan
Hi, Assume I have a table name "myTime". This table is simply only have 1 (one) DATETIME field "MyTestTime" (also serve as a primary number).Table MyTime- MyTestTime : SQLTYPE DATETIMETo insert a new row into this field, I simply wrote :SqlCommand sqlCommand = new SqlCommand("insert into MyTime values('2006-01-09')", sqlConnection); I got the value of "2006-01-09" from a textbox or other relevan control.I realize when I try to use "SELECT * FROM MyTime" statement, MSSQL server 2000 automatically convert my date value from "2006-01-09" to "01/09/2006" (from YYYY-MM-DD to MM/DD/YYYY). I don't know why this one must be converted to MM/DD/YYYY automatically (I believe this behavior is depend on some "setting option" in my MSSQL server - but I don't know which one).The challenge is :In my country, the actual date format is like German Date format (DD-MM-YYY). Well I know this is only "Customization" problem. But how insert datetime value given from sql query to a datetime variable?// Connect to database, make a query, get the datareader result, and bla bla blaDateTime aDateTime = new DateTime;aDateTime = Convert.ToDateTime(myDataReader["PostDate"].ToString());// close connectionMy question isHow can I make sure that aDateTime's day is 09 not 01. How my program know that 09 is day not month. I can't use string.split() method because it's possible that my database setting will change from "mm-dd-yyyy" to "dd-mm-yyyy"thanks

Hi all, having a little problem with saving dates to sql databaseI've got the CreatedOn field in the table set to datetime type, but every time i try and run it i get an error kicked up Error "The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.The statement has been terminated."I've tried researching it but not been able to find something similar. Heres the code: DateTime createOn = DateTime.Now;string sSQLStatement = "INSERT INTO Index (Name, Description, Creator,CreatedOn) values ('" + name + "','" + description + "','" + userName + "','" + createOn + "')"; Any help would be much appreciated
Hey :)I'm facing a lot of troubles trying to create a new pause/break-system. Right now i'm building up the query that counts how many records that is inside 2 fields. Let me first show you my table: ID (int) | stamp_start (Type: DateTime) | stamp_end (Type: DateTime) | Username (varchar)0 | 17-03-07 12:00:00 | 17-03-07 12:30:00 | Hovgaard The client will enter a start time and a end time and this query should then count how many records that are inside this periode of time. Example: The client enter starttime: 12:05 and endtime: 12:35.The query shall then return 1 record found. The same thing if the user enters 12:20 and 12:50.My current query looks like this:SELECT COUNT(ID) AS Expr1 FROM table WHERE (start_stamp <= @pausetime_start) AND (end_stamp >= @pausetime_end)But this will only count if I enter the exact same times as the one inside the table.Any ideas how I can figure this out?Thanks for your time so far :)/Jonas Hovgaard - Denmark
Hi, I have a column of type datetime in sqlserver 2000. Whenever I try to insert the date '31/08/2006 23:28:59' I get the error "...datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value" I've looked everywhere and I can't solve the problem. Please note, I first got this error from an asp.net page and in order to ensure that it wasn't some problem with culture settings I decided to run the query straight in Sql Query Anaylser. The results were the same. What else could it be? cheers, Ernest
Nothing difficult, I just need a way to generate a new datetime column based on the column [PostedDate], datetime. So basically I want to truncate the time. Thanks a lot.
hi , i have a problem i have an textarea that i want to convert to DateTime format (dd/MM/yyyy) . the data in the textarea is (dd/MM/yyyy for example 21/12/2005). i need it to add this data in sql server , in smalldatetime formation colum . plz help.
Hi, Ive imported a data set into SQL. Now on redefining a text field to datetime, most dates that are filled come through okay.
The issue is that there are some empty fields which I'd like for it to stay empty after conversion. Now what happens is that the empty field becomes '01/01/1900' - which is throwing off our queries as we need it to be compared to other date fields.
Is there a way to keep it empty even after the datatype is changed to datetime? Thanks a bunch!
