Install Wizard Stops At The Very Beginning

Nov 23, 1999

We are currently trying to install SQL Server 7 Enterprise edition using MS SELECT CDs. The install wizard stops at the beginning telling us that the used CD can only be used to install SQL Server clients with this computer although we used exactly this CD-ROM to install all other SQL Servers, too.

Did anybody have the same problem and knows what the reason for the abortion is?

Thanks
Axel

Hi huys,
can you tell me how you create a MSI file for your custom component.

basically i've created a SSIS custom component, and i want to distiribute among a few people, i guess instead of providing step by step instructions it would be easy if they just clicked on packaged msi file.

i've seen many people putting their custom components on the web as MSI, how do you do it?

What do I need to begin? Windows NT? Which version of SQL? enterprise or professional? (I noticed it's very expensive) Any other things I need to know before I begin?

Thank you,

Beginning With SQL Express

Oct 10, 2006

Hi everyone,

I want to set a database which will be made of two parts:

- One main set of files which is shared among users

- Another set of files which is proper to each users and will be mainly used for processing infos.

Because I must support Windows 2000 and XP as O/S platforms, I can't use SQL Everywhere. It seems that I'm stuck with SQL Express. My questions are the following:

- Can SQL Express manage database files with variable namepath?

- How can I configure SQL Express so that such a file may reside on a dynamically configurable path, I mean, which would be configured by application?

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Stéphane

Beginning SSIS - Sharepoint And Excel

Feb 14, 2006

Hi all, I have never used SSIS before, but am looking to use it in this aspect:

1) A user uploads an Excel file into Sharepoint. This will be through a Document Library in a Sharepoint page.

2) When this file is uploaded, I'd like SSIS to notice there is a new file and process it - it will pull information from the Excel file, put it into a database, and - if this is possible - delete the new file.

3) This is iffy. Can SSIS then generate an InfoPath document  from the information stored in the database? If not, I can just have a InfoPath query form.

I'd just like to know if this is possible. If you have any helpful links, please let me know - I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,

James

Beginning Question About Coping/moving A Sql Database

Sep 3, 2007

First, I consider myself a novice in Mssql. I've recently began the revision of a website that uses MS Sql Server 2000. In a effort to set up a working environment on my pc, I asked to get a copy of the sql server database. The response was something like "I'm not going to do that!" or "that's too much effort" which left me baffled. Furthermore, the size of the database shouldn't be the issue.

In Access all that is needed is the .mdb file to copy a database. In Sql Server is it that more complicated? My questions are as follows

How does someone copy a sql server database to another pc?
Were they expecting that I remotely test with Sql Server? Is that possible or practical? Isn't it prefered to have the db localized?

Thanks sincerely,
Breck

Osql - Blank Space Beginning Of Line

My output file comes out fine with one exception, there is a blank space at the beginning of each line. Is there a way to remove this ? One suggestion I have seen is to do this with BCP instaed of osql but I don't know if BCP can "run" my "SQL_Get_Create_Batch1.sql" file above. The ".sql" creates a temporary table and then does a select.

Thanks,

Package Stuck On Pre-Execute Phase Is Beginning.

Jun 8, 2007

Hi all,

I have a monster SQL query (SQL Server connection) that I'm trying to export to flat file. My package appears to just stick on the "Pre-Execute phase is beginning" stage. (I left it running overnight, and it's still going... no error message, I think it's just hung. If I include a "Top 10" in the my source query it completes without a problem. I'm wondering if it's an out-of-memory issue, but when I've run into this in the past there have been error messages generated. I've tried using both a Data Reader and an OLEDB Datasource. Does anyone have any ideas of what's going on and how I might fix it?

Thanks!!!Jess

Appending Text To The Beginning Of A Select Statement.

Mar 30, 2008

I wish I had a better idea about how to describe this but here goes. I'm trying to display a list of majors/minors/graduate programs for a particular user. Now, I've gotten it display perfectly and was able to append (Graduate), (Major), (Minor) to each of the 3 different sections. My question is is it possible to add like rows that don't actually exist in table to the beginning of the select? For instance I want to add All and General before the rest of the select. I was also wondering where I should do a group by cuz I'd like to keep it in blocks of like graduates then majors and finally minors but currently it is just doing it alphabetically...Anyways below are the tables and at the end the current stored procedure i'm using, which works great...just not to the degree I'm aiming for.

Importing Data From Oracle 8i/9i To SQL Server 2005 Using SQL Server Import And Export Wizard (AKA DTS Wizard)

Oct 20, 2006

Hi All,

I have become frustrated and I am not finding the answers I expect.

Here's the gist, we support both Oracle and SQL for our product and we would like to migrate our Clients who are willing/requesting to go from Oracle to SQL. Seems easy enough.

So, I create a Database in SQL 2005, right click and select "Import Data", Source is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and I setup my connection. so far so good.

I create my Destination for SQL Native Client to the Database that I plan on importing into. Still good

Next, I select "Copy data from one or more tables or views". I move on to the next screen and select all of the Objects from a Schema. These are Tables that only relate to our application or in other words, nothing Oracle System wise.

When I get to the end it progresses to about 20% and then throws this error about 300 or so times:

Could not connect source component.
Warning 0x80202066: Source - AM_ALERTS [1]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.

So, I'm thinking "Alright, we can search on this error and I'm sure there's an easy fix." I do some checking and indeed find out that there is a property setting called "AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage" in the OLEDB Data Source Properties. Great! I go back and look at the connection in the Import and .... there's nothing with that property!

Back to the drawing board. I Create a new SSIS package and figure out quickly that the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage is in there. I can transfter information from the Oracle Source Table to the SQL Server 2005 Destination Table, but it appears to be a one to one thing. Programming this, if I get it to work at all, will take me about 150 hours or so.

This make perfect sense if all you are doing is copying a few columns or maybe one or two objects, but I am talking about 600 + objects with upwards of 2 million rows of data in each!!

This generates 2 questions:
1. If the Import Data Wizard cannot handle this operation on the fly, then why can't the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property be shown as part of the connection
2. How do I create and SSIS Package that will copy all of the data from Oracle to SQL Server? The source tables have been created and have the same Schema and Object Names as the Source. I don't want to create a Data Flow Task 600 times.

Help!!!

How Do I Create A Temp Table As The Beginning Of A Process Flow?

Dec 29, 2006

Hi
Folx,
I
am new to SQL Server and I am struggling.

Versions:
Microsoft
SQL Server Integration Services Designer Version
9.00.1399.00

Microsoft
SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.1399.00

I
would like to
01.
create a temp table
02.
load the temp table from a flat file
03.
insert into a destination table the rows from the temp table where NOT EXIST the
primary key of the destination table.

ISSUES:

Flat
File Source will not accept that a resource will be available that does not yet
exist (the temp table)

I
set the Flat File Source to €œIgnore Failure€? and ran the package. It ran with
warnings but did not insert the new rows.

The
€œIgnore Duplicates€? radio button is €œgrayed out€? because the index is clustered

Now
I could work around this thing by keeping a table just for purposes of this
process flow. I am opposed to that philosophically and would prefer to do this
in the way that I consider appropriate€¦is there a solution?

Thanks,
Bill

Excel Transformation Adding Single Quote To Beginning Of Strings

Jun 28, 2007

I have a ssis package created in VS2005 that transforms a SQL query result into an excel spreadsheet. The DataFlow uses a DataReaderSource to query the data and an ExcelDestination to transform the data. The problem is that in the resulting spreadsheet any columns containing string data have a single quote inserted in front of the data. So a string like [My data] becomes ['My data]. When I preview it in the Excel Destination Editor it looks right (without the single quote). What is happening here, is it a bug or does something need to be configured. I checked all the properties that I could find. This is working nice, if I could only overcome this problem.

How To Create A Job That Stops Another Job

Jul 9, 2002

Hi,

I'm new to this SQL thing, and I inherited a DB that has a job that runs every two hours 24/7. Normally the process takes about 5 minutes to complete, but on occasion it just doesn't finish. In those cases, it cannot run at the next two hour cycle. If this happens on a Friday evening, it doesn't get noticed until Monday morning. That is a Bad Thing (tm).

Someone told me to create a second job that would run 45 minutes behind the first and automatically stop the first job if it hadn't terminated on it's own. My problem is I cannot find anywhere how to do this. I have found how to start other jobs, but not stop them.

Thanks in advance!

SQL Stops Working

Aug 18, 2006

I created some test data in two tables. Then I went to one of the tables and right clicked then Selected Script Table asSelect ToNew Query Editor Window. I then cleared the generated data and selectedDesign Query in Editor. I then picked both tables in the 'Add Table' window and picked 'Add'. This produced two windows and I made the links I needed and clicked OK. This generated the SQL I wanted and it works great! But when I close the SQL Express and then re-open it the SQL does not work! I open SQL Express and selectFileOpenFile and pick the SQL I had just saved. Then I pick Execute I get the following message.

Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Invalid object name 'dbo.FileData'

How can I save SQL that works and then not be able to use it?

Beats Me,

Miname

SQL Server Stops Working

Dec 29, 2004

I have had my site running for several months now. My pages retrieve data from the SQL Server on the same machine. Today my users are are getting the message "SQL Server does not exist or access denied"

I have made sure that the credentials are correct. I can use those credentials to create a DSN on the server. So I don't know where to look for the problem. Help please!
