i am using windows XP professional service pack 1 .. when i try to
install MS SQL 2000 Developer Edition to my system, it can works fine
except when i try to set the user name and password then it promp out
this msg
error msg : setup cannot verify/grant logon as service right to the sql
server logon account : 1332(0X534)
can any 1 help me with this? if i choose windows authentichal password
then can run, i cannot set the password

Hello!I would like to change the SQL server 2000 from Standard version toDevelopment edition. I have two database running on this server, bothreplicated, with few jobs, etc ... Can you recommend the easiest way to dothis? I heard, it would be as easy as, detaching the databases, deletingcurrent SQL software, installing different one, and attaching the olddatabases back. There are special instructions for installing service packs on desktop edition installations -- command line options etc. How do you install hotfix roll-ups? Does build 2187 apply to desktop edition?
My laptop has VS 2005 installed. I am trying to install MS SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition, when i run "install database components", it gave error: "MS SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition component is not supported on this operating system. Only client components will be available for installation". then when i click on "ok", then "next", when i click on "next" on the "computer name" page, it gave another error: "A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation moachine. You must restart the computer before running setup". I restarted my laptop following the instruction, but same thing happened when i run the installation. Plz help
I have just tried to install (among other things) BIDS, and have found it hasn't worked. I tried it once over an old SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installation, and that failed, so I followed the advice of others and removed it. In fact I removed everything I could find to do with SQL Server 2005, and started right from the beginning (restarted after removing everything). My steps were:
1) Install SQL Express with Advanced Services (SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE, 240 MB, downloaded today from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/). Choose to install all components, with default options. Restart when complete.
2) Install SQL Express Tools (SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.EXE, 218 MB, dowloaded today from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/). Choose only to install BIDS (one of four components).
When it was all over, I tried to fire up BIDS via the start menu (All Programs / Microsoft SQL Server 2005 / SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio), and got an error to say the shortcut to "devenv.exe" couldn't be found. Sure enough, it isn't where it should be - in fact it is not there at all.
As a note, I observed that when I went to install BIDS as per step 2 above, the installer made some claims about it already being installed, and that it would perform an upgrade...??
Something is not right here... By the way, I have installed BIDS on another machine some months ago, with no problems. Probably an older version at the time...
I'm trying to install the Business Intelligence Component ONLY of the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. We are interested in only giving the BI Development Studio to a User to allow to create reports. The documentation makes it seems as if this is possible - am I wrong?
It allows me to walk through and select this component, and then it fails and I receive the following error:

Hi there Our ISP hosts our data on SQL Server Enterprise, but I also going to host the databases on my local machine. As it's just local would Standard edition do? If I migrate the databases over, will it work? Thanks in advance.
I am getting the following warning on a Live SQL 2000 system: This SQL Server has been optimized for 8 concurrent queries. This limit has been exceeded by 1 queries and performance may be adversely affected. Reading about this error I realised that, by mistake, the version installed is a personal edition instead of the standard edition. I am thinking to backup the databases, uninstall SQL 2000 Personal edition, install Standard edition and restore the databases back. OR, disconnect the databases, uninstall the current version, install the standard version and re-connect the databases. I haven't found within Microsoft any advice how to upgrade the personal version to the standard edition. Because it is a live system, I would not like to mess the system up. Can you please advice? I am using SQL server 2000 enterprise edition installed on the machine. Now I wanted to change the edition from enterprise to standard. There are around 4 user databases exists on the server. What are the areas I have to take care while doing this? Could I do as normal installation? No log shipping implemented on the server.
I have an existing database running on NT Enteprise Edition and SQL Server Standard Edition. I am attempting to install the SQL Enterprise Edition and am not having any luck. The error I am getting is that SQL 7 is already installed. My question is do I have to uninstall the SQL Standard edition and reinstall the SQL Enterprise Edition or is there a way that I am missing that will save me some time and effort. I am not finding anything in BOL and the readme files don't address the change from 7 standard to 7 enterprise only from 6.5 to 7.0.
Another strange situation (strange situations seem to develop when non-IT people plan anything IT):
So I'm supposed to develop and administer a SQL DB, BUT I can't consult our IT department about it because they were originally supposed to help with the development/administration via a project to do so, but over a 6 month period managed to not do a thing to get it going.
I have to find a way to develop/run/administer a 170mil+ record data warehouse/20 gigs without consulting IT except to get the software and procure server space. Only problem is, the only way to get server space is to create an IT project.
How large of a DB can I run from a local workstation? Say if I only am going to run Personal edition, so I don't have to load the DB on a Win Server box? We have a local box we can run it on. Still, we're going to have to procure a copy of SQL personal edition. Have to go through IT for that too. lol
I think this would be the only way to totally circumnavigate IT on this size of a DB.
I'm looking at the pre-requisite list and I can't find MDAC 2.8 SP1 or greater for XP2 SP2. I found MDAC 2.8 that is compatible with XP2. Is it possible to install SQL 2005 Standard on a XP OS? If so what version of MDAC do I need and where can I find it?
Any other tidbits you can provide to ensure a successful installation?
Hi I have Visual Studio 2005 with SP1 installed, and I want to install the Management Studio. I tried many times installing that and I always got the same problem, which is when I try to create a database in VS I just don’t get trough as I used to. A message appears saying that I’ve to enable some estance. So to resolve the problem I saw if is everything ok with the SQL Server, which seemed to be fine, but I couldn’t start the Report service. Now I just formatted the computer and I’m afraid to happen all over again. May be the version with only the Management would be fine, I don’t know if it adds something beside of that.

Again when i try to install the same, i am not getting the sql server management studio, Business Intellingence. Only configuration tools menu is available in the Programs Menu. I have tried using two different DVDs, and also downloaded SQL 2005 from msdn, but none of them work.
I downloaded the SQL Server Evaluation Edition from Microsoft.com in ISO form and burned a CD using Nero 7. I have tried to install the program, but I keep getting the error:

The min reqt olny says Windows XP Service Pack 2. So, whether it is Pro or Home I assume this Edition will run. MY system is XP Home SP2 with 2GB RAM and Dual Core Intel Processor. Is this the problem? There is no error displayed on the summary.txt and I do not know how to read the log file. Pls help... Or do I need to upgrade to XP Pro?

I am trying to install SQL Express on Window Home XP and SCC is returning the following error:
The SQL Server Configuration Checker cannot b execute due to WMI configuration on the machine ..... Error 2147942405 (0X80070005).
I tried running the following batch file which I believe resolved the same issue that someone else raised earlier (though I am not sure whether the OS was Home XP)

During installation, I get a warning message that the hardware doesn't meet minimum requirement. But I'm running it on a laptop with 30 gigs of free space and running Windows XP home edition.
When I click on install anyway, I end up getting an error message that I need a "sqlncli.msi" file that can't be found.
Could it be because I have both 2.0 NET and 3.0 NET installed?

I've installed this applicaton many times, however, while setting up a new virtual server for TFS, the person installing the server piece didn't choose the appropriate security mode to use when logging in. Due to this, we attempted to reinstall the management studio and the installation keeps failing. We've hit many challenges up and includig using the original cd's instead of an install from a network location. When attempting to install it fails, when we put the error into help, there isn't any help on the topic. We have managed to install everything except XML and management studio. The studio I can go without, but TFS needs the XML piece. Any ideas?
I have Windows Vista, and I am tryed to install SQL Server I downloaded from MSDN. I tried both Express and Developers Edition but both give me this error when trying to install SQL Database Services

Of course the help link is useless, sure looks purdy though.
Anything you folks out there on WWW can do to help will be appreciated. Please put your posts in English. By that I mean I am not that good with computers when it comes to troubleshooting so keep the technical stuff short and sweet.
