Installed Sql 2005 Connection Error

Nov 26, 2007

i have sql 2000 as default server & then i installed sql server 2005 with instance name.
From my application when i try connecting to sql server 2005 i have the follwing error

here is the error message

SQL Read on : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)

In the surface area configuration under remote connections i have select Local/remote & tcp/ip

i have no idea about ports or any other default setting whic need to be changed.

When i am connecting from the application i have just changed the connection string by adding instance name alone & it dosent work.
new connection string for 2005
Password=test;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=eCom;Initial Catalog=ecommerce;Data Source=server external ipinstance2005

old connection string for 2000
Password=test;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=eCom;Initial Catalog=ecommerce;Data Source=server external ip

i have problem when connecting from application
but i have no problem logging from management studio using ip or server name

Please let me know what the problem is.Any help is appreciated..

Remote Connection Error - But Everything Installed Locally?

Mar 12, 2007

I have a visual basic 2005 application where I am storing some data in a Sequel Server Database. It's my first attempt using SQL Server. It was developed on my machine and the database is on my local hard drive.

It was put onto an industrial PC and shipped last December (the vb app is an HMI).

Our service guy is installing the machine and asked for some changes to the VB screens. I ran my app (on my computer) and it crashed when I selected the screen where I use the db.

So I decided to look at the database using Visual Basic and I get the following error:

Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I then tried to create a new database via Visual Basic and get the same error. My boss has it installed on his machine. Same error there. These are both machines that had no problem back in December!

I also have a industrial PC on my desk to test my app and it STILL WORKS there. That one though is not connected to the internet and hasn't gotten any updates or changes or whatever since I last had it on in December. I don't know if it was a windows update or a network change? But as I said, I'm not connecting remotely - SQL Server and the db are on our local machines.

Interesting enough, if I go to the control panel | Administrative Tools | Services, SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) is set to automatic and is NOT started. I attempt to start it and get an error

Services

Windows could not start the SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 3417.

I am lost.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Oct 11, 2007

Hi All!
In my computer I have Installed MS SQL Server 2005(Default Instance) & MS SQL Server 2000(Duynnh Instance). When I write an ASP.NET app to connect to SQL Server 2005 it's OK but not connect in SQL Server 2000. Please give me the SQL Connection string to connect to SQL Server 2000.
When I open Query analyzer connection is OK for both.

Sql Server 2005 Dev Edition Error - Unexpected Error While Updating Installed Files

Feb 14, 2007

I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition onto a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine, but unfortunately each time that I attempt to install I receive an error message in the summary log as follows:

Product : Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Product Version: 9.00.1399.06
Install : Failed
Log File : C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup
Last Action : InstallFinalize
Error String : The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Updating Installed Files.
The error is : Fatal error during installation.
Error Number : 29528

There is probably a simple solution for the issue but unfortunately I am unaware of what it is? I can€™t tell if the issue is specific to registry settings, security, file types, etc€¦ The information below surrounds the error w/in the log, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks, Jennifer

ODBC Connection For Client Application To SQL Server 2005 Express Installed On Network Computer

May 5, 2006

Hi All,

I've developed an application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 Express database. I created a DSN to connect to the database through ODBC. Currently, I am testing locally and everything works fine.

I would now like to install my application on another workstation and connect remotely to the database located on my development machine.

The client workstation does not have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on it because I would just like my application to connect remotely by creating the DSN and using ODBC. What I'm missing here are the database drivers. The "SQL Natice Client" is not available on this client workstation. How can I deploy the necessary drivers with my installation file so that I may create the required DSN name using the SQL Native Client driver?

Thanks!

May 3, 2008

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €ś70000893€?
However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database.

Changinging Connection String In An Installed Package

I'm new to SSIS. Is there some way to change the connection strings used by a package installed in MSDB? We created a package using the Import wizard in SQL2005, but now the source Access mdb file has moved. I tried using Mgt. Studio Object Explorer to connect to SSIS to look for the properties of the package, but right-click on the package name does not offer a Properties option. I understand the package editor is now in Visual Studio, but I was unsuccessful opening the installed package in VS.

workstation does not install any sql server
sql 2000 locates at the remote server.
the sql server can be connected via vs environment (data connnection), therefore, i think the connection string, server name and instance name is correct
i have tried all the solution i can find online, but it is not working
LocalSQLServer connection string has been removed in GobalSetting
also remove all default connection string in web.config (<clear />)
aspnet_regsql can register the sql 2000 db successful
vs 2005 can access and display the data in sql 2000 quite well
has been reboot lots of times.
still bug out
any body have any idea? thanks, it already costs me the whole day

SQL Server 2005 Connection Error

Dec 28, 2007

I am new to using SQL Server 2005 and I am currently going through the Microsoft tutorials on Databases. I am currently stuck on "lesson 5". In the lesson Bob Tabor uses Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express to connect to a server called "SUPERMANSQLEXPRESS". I have followed all the steps in the tutorial, but when I try to connect I get the following error:

TITLE: Connect to Server
------------------------------
Cannot connect to SUPERMANSQLEXPRESS.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=-1&LinkId=20476
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
I have gone through the net trying to find and fix the problem, but I am at my wits end and I can't seem to get ahead.

I have my Microsoft firewall disabled

I have used the "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections" to turn my SQL Server Browser to Automatic, and to turn on the "remote connections" radio button

I have used the "SQL Server Configuration Manager" to enable TCP/IP

I have restarted my PC
I still can't connect and I am still getting the same error. I just want to follow along with the lesson. Anyone please help me.

Thanks,

Wael

Here is the TCP/IP setting in our SQL server 2005:

In SQL server 2005 for Remote connections:

SQL Server 2005 Connection Error On Vista

Jun 6, 2007

Hi,

I have ASP.NET application which connectts to SQL Server 2005 on a server remotely. Everything was working fine untill I installed Vista on my laptop and ran the ASP.NET application. It throws following exception very often :

"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"

This seems to be Vista specific problem because evrything works fine on XP machine.

Thanks

SQL Server 2005 Remote Connection Not Allowed Error 26

Jan 11, 2008

Help!  My web-application worked fine last week.  I have made some enhancements and it still works fine when I test in locally in VS 2005 and from IIS when I allow unauthenticated users (by commenting out "<deny users="?"/>" in my web.config.  However, with not allowing unauthenticated users, I get redirected to a login application (which also worked last week), where I supply one of several user names and passwords and it is supposed to redirect me back to my default.aspx page.  Only, now it is taking the authentication parameters from the login screen but is not redirecting me back to my app's page and instead is putting up this Error 26 that states SQL Server 2005 does not allow remote connections.
The included stack trace has no information about what server it seems to be trying to connect with, but the strangest thing about it is I/we are not using SQL Server 2005 yet (still a future upgrade not too far off).  The application database, the authentication aspnetdb database, and the Session aspstate database are all on the same SQL Server 2000 managed server.  And, these were all working last week (and are all accessible).  I have not changed any connection strings and as I said, it works fine without the loging in part both locally and from IIS.  It is only when using the Login in application, which is working with other apps and the developer insists the problem has to in my application (after all the first line of the error message states:  Server Error in '/deployment1' Application, which is my app!)
I am lost in finding the culprit, can someone please give me some ideas?

Oracle Linked Server Connection Error After Upgrading To SQL 2005

Mar 14, 2007

Hello all.

I upgraded a SQL 2000 installation to SQL 2005 this past weekend. Minimal issues overall, but one that did crop up relates to a linked server to an Oracle database. The linked server worked before the upgrade, and stopped working immediately after.

We're running on Windows 2003 x64, latest service pack. The linked server is set up using the MSDAORA provider. The error I'm getting post-upgrade is:

=====================

OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "PROD" returned message "ORA-06413: Connection not open.".

Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Procedure RDM_GET_REP_LIST_SP, Line 12

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "PROD".

=====================

A tnsping from the server works fine. I've also tried recreating the linked server. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know what other information would be useful.

Thanks,

Adam

Bought And Installed VS2005 Professional - There Is No Management Studio Got Installed In The SQL Express.!

Jan 26, 2006

Hi Friends,
I have a question. At my home computer i downloaded and installed VWD. As usual it also installed Sqlexpress as part of the installation(i checked the option). Later on i downloaded Management studio separately so i am fine with my home computer as every thing is free.
But at work we decided to develop application using VS 2005 and Sqlserver 2005. So we bought and  installed VS2005 professional edition at work and it also installed Sqlexpress during the installation as a defualt desktop engine. I am fine with that too. But i am not understing where do i get the Management studio? Is it some thing i could get it off the web for free or what? I am not sure we would have an option while installing the VS 2005 professional that also does install management studio and we need to check that option. I am not sure if we could get the management studion off the web for free and and evelop applications.

Please advise. Thanks -L
