if you were running a SQL2k cluster, multiple named instances, would you let someone install the oracle client so DTS packages could be setup ?
I am a bit apprehensive about putting this oracle client on my production box. would appreciate any experience people have in this area.

I am trying to configure a 2 node SQL cluster. MSCS is configured and is failing over correctly, however when I start the installation of SQL Server, and specify the IP address of the virtual server and hit next, the installation hangs, and stops responding. I have configured MS DTC and verified that it shows up in the cluster administrator. I am not sure what else to do, please help.

I need to install the SSIS components on the referenced database server. I believe the SSIS components are cluster aware, so I was planning on just doing add/remove and selecting the components. Rather than breaking the cluster apart to patch the components back to SP1, I was thinking of just running the SP2 install right over the top of the running cluster to bring everything up to SP2.
I'm looking for any suggestions/comments on whether this is the proper way to proceed or if I'm going to have a problem.

The cluster has RAID10 for data and RAID1 for Quorum and Transaction Logs.
How do I put the Transaction logs on the RAID1 disk as at install SQL2K only asks where you would like to put the SQL data ?

There are have 2 nodes.Both on cluster and on a test_domain.Test domain is a active directory domain.
Node_A & node_B has C and D drives.D drive will have programs.
There is one common drive E - where data will go.
Now,I have to install SQL2000 on it.Can anyone tell me in layman's way how to install it.Do I have to have D drive in shared mode?When I give remote connection what should I give here?
Win 2000 clustered was installed by a NT expert and is working fine.
I am assuming drive_D will hold the SQl programs.
I tried one article posted here from Sqlserver preformance side but nothing worked.
Does it matter as both the nodes are on a Active Directory?

Is it possible to install and configure the MSDTC resource in a SQL Server 2000 cluster after SQL is installed and running?
When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.
Thanks in advance for any help. I would really like to avoid rebuilding again.

I applied sql2k post sp4 fix 2040 and 2162 on active node of the cluster without error, the version number is 8.00.2162. When failover the cluster and double check version number again, it's 8.00.2040. That means fix 2162 didn't push to passive node. So I tried apply fix 2162 on current active node but stopped with KB904660(ENU) setup error: An error in updating your system has occurred. Can't find any log file, and OS is win2k3 enterprise edition with sp1. Anyone got similar issue?

We will be implementing our first SQL cluster in December. Our current plan calls for a shared development/test database server with one physical server, but two SQL Server instances. Our production environment will be a SQL cluster. Is it necessary to create a clustered test environment for testing patches, hot-fixes, etc...?

I have been doing research into the best way to do this for some time. I use SQL Server 2005 Standard so replication is out of the question.
I have discovered Slowly Changing Dimensions, Linked Servers, etc Which may help me bring the data out of Oracle 9i and into SQL. Ideally I want the data refreshed on a daily basis. I want to specify which tables and views are taken from Oracle and manage the relationships in SQL.

In SSIS package development environment, I was able to connect to an oracle database and pull data into my sql server database. I installed the client tools for oracle and I put an entry into the tnsnames.ora and I was able to connect.
But in production environment, if I deploy the package on sql server, I was wondering if I had to do the same job of downloading the oracle client tools onto my production machine --which creates a tnsnames.ora file to it default location and then edit it with tthe tns entry-- or is there a better way to do this--avoiding the download?

For example, currently we run SQL Server on one server and at certain peak time the server CPU is maxed out. The main objective is to have a third party program operate on a failover cluster. The OS is Windows Server 2012 Datacenter loaded on 2 nodes. A virtual node exists along with supporting disks. This client software uses a SQL Server database. SQL Server 2012 Enterprise is installed and operating in a failover environment. However the client software is not failing over. If the connection to node A is lost, SQL Server fails over to node B. But the client application does not.
What needs to occur in order to associate the client software with the failover cluster? This software has 6 services total installed. Some are referred to as servers - looks like to communicate between remote client computers and the database. What is the process to associate the client software with the failover?
The company for which I work did not have a DBA until I started a few weeks ago. Whoever installed SQL2K used the wrong CD so they have been running Personal Edition on their servers. I have installed a new SQL2K standard instance and have restored everything except the jobs and DTS packages. Can the msdb from the Personal edition be restored to the standard instance?

I have tried several times to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on a cluster. SQL Server, SQL browser and SQL Agent installs ok but when the installer start to setup Books on line and client tools (BIDS) and SS Management Studio the installer stops and end the installation.

I have tried everything I can find online to resolve an ongoing issue with a SSIS package that pulls data from Oracle. I have other servers that can function just fine connecting to the same Oracle database. I have the 10g x64 client installed and I can TNSPing the database from the command prompt. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Oracle on this server. I tried the 32bit Oracle Client as well as the 64bit client. I rebuilt the package to use Data Flow Tasks from scratch, and I have the same issues. It just doesn't add up. I get this exception with the 64 bit client installed. Anyone with ideas, I am getting near to the point of migrating backwards to 32 bit SQL on this server to be rid of this problem.

In another machine with the OS: MS Windows 2003 Server SP.1 and Oracle Client 10g I'm getting the error "System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater " when trying to open a connection.

I just tried to apply SQL 2005 Std SP2 on a cluster, and all succeeded except for the Database Services. I've looked about and can't see any specific information for this. The Summary.Txt is below. I thought I was following the appropriate steps, according to the SP2 Readme.

I'm building an SQL Server 2005 cluster on a Windows 2003 cluster. Windows 2003 cluster and MSDTC service are all up and running properly. No problems there, but when I try to install SQL Server 2005 as a cluster service, it fails. The installation goes past the stage where it validates both the nodes and doesn't find any issue there, but when it tries to install fiels it fails. It fails on node 2. When I checked the scduled installer job it creates on node2 to install, the job never seems to run and fails. I'm using only one user account to setup windows cluster MSDTC and SQL Server. Now the complications: It is 64 bit Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2005. Also, the node 1 is built to be a domain controller as well.

I have an application that needs to execute dtsrun from a remotemachine. Basically I have a batch file on the remote box, whichhandles the execute. This works fine on a machine with client toolsinstalled. My problem is that I can't install the client tools on theremote box.Does anyone know what I need to install on the remote machine to getthis to execute, without installing the client tools? I have recently installed a copy of SQL server 2005 on to a windows 2003 server. During the install I selected to install the client tools (management studio and all that) all seemed to install ok no errors but after the install there is no management studio in the start menu. I have tried uninstalling the client tools and reinstalling them again I have also tried to launch management studio by browsing to the SqlWb.exe but the program fails to initialise any ideas?

Could this because i have oracle XE installed yet on my personal laptop, and it is not installed on the computer of our test environment where the SSIS runs? If that's the reason, it sounds very strange, because it would mean i have to install an oracle environment also on the computer with SSIS, just to make a connection to another oracle server...
