hi, I want to enter numbers like this and do not know what kind of data type the field should hold, 1 5/8 , 3/4 etc... I kept having error in sql sever to accept such data.

I have just migrated an Access database to the SQL Server.All of a sudden, some of the append queries no longer work. The reason why, is because some of the values in the source table fields, are a series of spaces. When a Trim(TheseFields) is applied, the data will append. Why is that? The datatype of these fields on the SQL Server is set as Varchar(50) and to accept nulls. How can I get these fields to accept spaces? Thanks - I hope.

I have my stored procedure set to
Territory_code IN (@Territory)
, now , how do i enter in more then one value. When i select the multi value check box, it gives me more spaces. But then doesnt recognize the values when i put in more then one. am i doing something wrong?

I am trying to store long text so I gave the field in question the TEXT datatype. But it only lets me store 1023 characters. I was expecting (but not quite needing) 2,147,483,647 characters when using the TEXT datatype. Can some one point out what I am missing.

I had created a database named "Company-Data" that contains a table named "tblStock". This table contains several columns such as ID, Product, Quantity. The datatype for the column "Quantity" is INT.
I had entered 100 records to the table, now I want to change the datatype for the column "Quantity" from INT to MONEY.
How can we do this without loosing the data that has been entered the the column previously.
I'm creating a table using a XML string and a stored procedure to the SQL Server. I'm having problems in just one field, it is a nvarchar(10) type. This field's string XML Schema is also nvharchar(10) type. It is called CodCanalPrice.
Today, the only values this field can assume are AA or BB or CC, (...), ZZ or (space)A, (space)B, (...), (space)C. Note that (space) is actually a space character. They all have 2 characters.
The XML data string of one data row is showed below:
<row id="1" (...many fields...) CodCanalPrice=" A" />
When the statement is executed, SQL server removes the first space (so in this case it is updated to A without space in the table). The others values that don't have an space before like AA or BB are updated fine. All others fields are also updated correctly.
So far I tried to replace the first space for but SQL Server doesn't accept this tag.
In SQL Server for a field of datatype float(8),
if i insert a value 2.62 , it saves it as 2.6200000000000001
like so for other values also.
But in frontend i can see the right values.
Could any of you help me in fixing up this issue?

When i try to insert a value in to a field of datatype float(8), it is storing the wrong values(approximate values).
For example, if i try to insert 2.62 , it takes it as 2.6200000000000001
But i can see the correct values displayed in the frontend.
Heard that there is a fix available for this issue.
Could any of you help me in getting the details about that fix?

Ok I have upgraded my works database from a poorly designed Access database to a SQL database. The previous system allowed NULL values and duplicates to be inserted into a field that should NOT ALLOW NULL Values or duplicates. Therefore, this issue has now been moved across to my new system as I cannot set these constraints on the field that has multiple NULL values.
My solution would be to use a sequential operator, so whatever = NULL would be changed to a sequential number that us as administrators would know was a bogus number starting at something like = 999999900 counting up from that. There are only 250 records that would require updating.
To make things more interesting this field is not a integer type, its a Nvarchar type as its a Hardware ID. Both numerical and characters are require.

I am installing a new instance of SQL 2005 including reporting services and have a serious problem. All looks fine from the Reporting Services Configurations system, however, when attempting to browse to http://servername/reports I get an authentication challenge. All forms of credentials are rejected. The server is a Member server in the domain and SQL Server and the reporting services are installed on this server.
Any help would be appreciated as this is holding up the server installation and I have conducted exhaustive searches for a solution.

I have an issue with an ssis variable datatype.
The scenario is as follows:
I have a stored procedure:

SELECT @txOut = @@identity
Whose purpose is to perform an insert into a table and return me the identity value of the inserted record, which I'll then use throughout the rest of my package. The identity column in the inserted table is numeric(18,0).
I execute the stored proc with the following sql with an OLE DB connection manager:
exec sp_newTransaction ?, ?
The first parameter is a string variable from earlier in the package, and the second is the output parameter. I have the following parameter mappings to the execute sql task:
User:ystxId output numeric 1 -1
User:ourceSys input varchar 0 -1
The proc is correctly called, and the row insesrted, however I get a type conversion error when SSIS attempts to map the return parameter to my package variable... I've tried all sorts of combonations, and can't seem to get it to execute.
At one point I wasn't returning a numeric, but rather an int from the stored proc, and all was well until I went to use the variable in a derived column later in the package, and the type was converted quite incorrectly (a 1 was 77799789080 or some such), indicating a type conversion error likely related to the encoding of the number.
I'd like to keep the datatypes as numeric and make ssis use those - any pointers are greatly appreciated as to what type my package variable should be to allow proper assignment of a sql server numeric type to it.

I imported a table from Accees to SQL 7 with data in it.
I need to modify one of the datatype columns to "datetime" from nvarchar.
I tried to convert it manually, in SQL Server Enterprise Manager tool, but it gave me an error.
I also tried, creating another column "DATE2-datatype:datetime" and updating the column with the old one.
UPDATE users SET DATE2 = DATE.. But it also faild,..
How can I modify the column?

I have a table like this below and it doesn't only contain English Names but it also contain Chinese Name.

I tried to view the column using SQL Query Analyzer, It didn't display Chinese Character.
I know that SQL Server 2005 is using UCS-2 Encoding and Chinese Character uses Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) Encoding.
I want to read the FirstName and LastName columns and display in Window Form Data Grid and ASP.NET Grid View.
I tried to use this code below and it didn't work. It convert some of the English Name to Chinese Character and it display the chinese character and some still in the original unreadable characters.
Does anybody know how to read those character from SQL Table and display the correct Chinese Character without converting the English Name into Chinese also?

HI,I have a table with IDENTITY column with the datatype as INTEGER. Nowthis table record count is almost reaching its limt. that is totalrecord count is almost near to 2^31-1. Can i use more then 5/6 fields in a table with datatype of Text as u know Text can store maximu data... ? acutally i am trying to store a very long strings values into the all fields. it's just popup into my mind that might be table structer would not able to store that my amount of data when u use more then 5/6 text datatypes...
and another thing... is which one is better to use as data type "Text" or "varchar(max)"... ?

How to count the number of values that exist in a row based on the values from an array of numbers. Basically the the array of numbers I want to look for are in row 1 of table [test 1] and I want to search for them and count the "out of" in table [test 2]. Excuse me for not using the easiest way to convey my question below. I guess in short I have 10 numbers and like to find how many of those numbers exist in each row. short example:
Table Name: test1
Columns: m1 (int), m2 (int), m3 (int) >>> etc

I am trying to think my way through a solution which I believe others have probably come across... I am trying to implement a matching routine wherein I need to match an address against a high value and a low value (or, for that matter an input date vs. a start and end date) to return the desired row ... i.e. if I were to use a straight vb program I would just use the following lookup:

My question, then, is how would you perform this type of query using a lookup / merge join or script? I have not found a way to implement a way to set the input columns? I can set the straight matches without a problem, i.e. lookup zip code = input zip code, but can't think of the correct way to set comparisons, i.e. lookup value 1 <= input value AND lookup value 2 >= input value
Any suggestions?
