Jan 13, 2006SQL Server 2005 Express will not allow me to change the password for my login user. I tried deleting the user and re-creating the user. Another password is being put in although the password I put in was accepted. I even test to see what would happen if I left the password blank. It got accepted. But when I look at the password for my login user again, a different and much longer password was put in. I even tried this T-SQL statement:
CREATE LOGIN <loginname> WITH PASSWORD='<passwordname>', CHECK_EXPIRATION = OFF, CHECK_POLICY = OFF
I am out of ideals. Is this a bug?

what can i do ( there are lot of db on this instance and there are lot of instance where I have to change the domain of the user...) ... and there are lot of user whom I have to change it...:-(

SQL Unable To Start After Login Account Change
Jul 25, 2007I have a SQL 2k5 ent. 64 bit on Windows 2003 Ent x64 edition.
The sql server was running fine under localsystem account. Recently I changed the service account to a local user (part of users group in windows) and implemented permissions according to KB article 283811. (have imlpemented the same on many other sql servers without issue).
However, the SQL services are not starting up and I am seeing the following errors in the errorlog.

Newbie Question: Change Login Name Of Dbo User
Jun 22, 2006My database has a user "dbo" which is dbo of all database objects. The login name for this user is e.g. "Login1". Now I need to change the login name for user "dbo" from "Login1" to a new login name "Login2".
It is not possible to change the related login name of the user "dbo" in the user's properties dialog. And it is also not possible to change or remove the dbo relation in the login name's properties dialog (because a dbo user can not be removed).
Is there any possibility to change the login name of an dbo user? How can I do it?

But how can i say, in the definition of a linked server (at the remote machines) to swicth security system ?
If it is possible i could enter a fixed domain-account in that users fields, but i suppose that this field was intended for SqlServer security.

We have an application using SQLOLEDB connection to a SQL Server 2005 database. Per domain policy, the users are required to change their password every 60 days.
The accounts are established to 'Enforce password policy'.
When we try to execute the 'ALTER LOGIN' command to change the password, locks are being established and will not free the account without bouncing the instance.
After issuing the command, any interaction with the server using this UserID results in a "lock request time out" error 1222.
I have tried issuing this command using both the application and through SQLServer Mgmt Studio Express and the results are the same.
Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Application Login-User: Thomas
DB-Connect-User: AppUser
With this solution, in Activity-Monitor or with sp_who I don't know, what is the real name of the connected user.
Any possibility to change the login-information after the connect, so that i can see 'Thomas' in Activity-Monitor or with sp_who?

so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them:
"Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'xxx'"
Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error.
I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database. I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account. Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed'
This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too. But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database. If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Last time I recieved this error I had to add ASPNet, NTAuthority, and myWebSiteUsers USERS under the database properties-->permissions setting for the specific database I am trying to access with the website but this database(QuoteSystem) does not lists any of these objects so I can add them. SQL Server 2008 :: Login Failed For Login (DomainNameUserName) Due To Trigger Execution
Sep 23, 2015All the logins with sysadmin role are locked out in one of the SQL server. Also in that instance Logon trigger is implemented which allows only certain users with Windows Authentication to logon.
This server is converted into single user mode by using command prompt. Now we are attempting to connect to SQLServer using command sqlcmd -S FTCPU3239 (since we do not have any other login) and create a new login with sysadmin role but are refused due to logon trigger. it says Login failed for login 'DomainNameUserName' due to trigger execution.

I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

There is a setting in the connections manager, under the ALL tab, Initialization, Connect Timeout. It is set to zero, which would be the default. It appears (by looking at the timestamps in my error log) that the default is 15 seconds. If I change this to a higher value (60 seconds or so) should this fix the error?

Cannot Open Database Dbname Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.
May 29, 2008I am getting the above error. On server1 I am running a dts package via a sql server job (sql server2005). This has been working perfectly for over a year. This package needs to access a database on server2. The database in question on server2 was recently restored from our produciton environment to refresh the data. Every since thsi time the job on server1 is failing with the above error.
Steps I have taken so far:
droped the user from server2 and recreated it
gave the user sysadmin rights on server 2 and server1
