I am a newbie creating triggers and I would like to know what is the name of the updated logical table. That is, since the are identifiers like "inserted" and "deleted" that represent the inserted and deleted rows, respectivaly, I presumed that "updated" existed - but it does not.
I have a table with a column named "UpdatedTimeStamp" which I would like to update anytime the other columns are modified. I intended to create the following trigger:
create trigger myTrigger on myTable after update as
update updated set UpdateTimeStamp=GetDate()
Of course, "updated" is not a valid identifier that represents the updated row.
Please, help me in creating this trigger. What is the correct way of doing a trigger like this?
Hi,I want to log updates to specific fields, storing the new and oldvalues. Is there any way I can iterate the collection of updatedfields within a trigger in order accomplish this? Thanks in advance,Julie Vazquez
We have a column syncUpdate in some tables and we need a trigger (or one for each table) which will set the current dateTime for the syncLastUpdate (dateTime) when either the row is inserted or updated (we have to ignore the syncLastUpdate column itself as this would be an infinite loop, I think).
I don't know much about DB but I think that is easly doable.
I am creating update trigger(After) on a table.I want to catch an updated row and insert the values of this row into a new table. How can i catch this row while creating a trigger after update.
I want to update several columns in different tables whenever an update is happend on specific table. I have a trigger for that which update all the relevant places when it fires.
I want to do this update only if certains columns were changed, otherwise - do anything, to reduce performance.
How Can I know which columns were updated inside the trigger? The tables has many columns and only if 2 of them were changed then I need to update other tables.
Stepping thru the code with the debugger shows the dataset rows being deleted.
After executing the code, and getting to the page presentation. Then I stop the debug and start the page creation process again ( Page_Load ). The database still has the original deleted dataset rows. Adding rows works, then updating works fine, but deleting rows, does not seem to work.
The dataset is configured to send the DataSet updates to the database. Use the standard wizard to create the dataSet.
cDependChildTA.Fill(cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild, UserId); rowCountDb = cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild.Count; for (row = 0; row < rowCountDb; row++) { dr_dependentChild = cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild.Rows[0]; dr_dependentChild.Delete(); //cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild.Rows.RemoveAt(0); //cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild.Rows.Remove(0); /* update the Client Process Table Adapter*/ // cDependChildTA.Update(cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild); // cDependChildTA.Update(cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild); } /* zero rows in the DataSet at this point */ /* update the Child Table Adapter */ cDependChildTA.Update(cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild);
Hi All, I am using a trigger. I want to get the data of a row before updating inside this trigger and insert it into a backup table. Please anybody help me. Example with code is highly appreciated.
I am having a hard time understanding triggers. My goal is to put a trigger on table x where records are UPDATED or DELETED. When this trigger fires I need to take the record ID and put the ID modified record into table y with the date modified. so basically logging the recordid changed with the getDate()
I don't quite understand how to get the rowid of the modified record.
Im using a trigger to check updates on particular table and execute a email. it works but it doesnt show the right record im looking into one table called SiteInfo. here is my code Im using sql 2005, can someone look at my code or the select statement.
Is there a command that will tell me the number of rows that are updated in a statement. I would like to put this in an Stored Procedure and pass the #rows updated back out.
Hello, I am using SQL Server 2005 and ASP.NET 2.0. We have a very simple content management system where we have to keep track of date last modified for each row in all of our content tables. I know there's a "timestamp" datatype that is used for replication scenarios, but is there anything similar that I can use to set up a date_modified column for each of my content tables that will automatically update with GETDATE() whenever anything in a given row is updated? Or do I have to create a date_modified column of smalldatetime datatype and write a trigger on update for EVERY single table of content that I have in the database? It seems there should be an easier way to do this than to write 20 triggers for my 20 content tables. Thanks!
HI, I am wondering if it is possible to retreive this information without using row count transform. Can I get the # of rows inserted/updated or deleted by destination from the log?
I am looking to created a trigger that inserts records into a log table to show the stored porcedure that has updated a specific column to a specific value in a specific table
At present I have:
CREATE TRIGGER [dbo].[trUpdaterTable] ON [dbo].[t_account]-- A DB level trigger FOR UPDATE --Event we want to capture AS IF update (document_status)
[Code] ...
However this doesn't appear to bring back the procedure that triggered the update...
The value the trigger should update on is document_status = 0
This was a usual day today in office and i was working on a requirement in which i was needed to fetch the total number of rows effected by an update query, so I asked my best code mate "Google" and to my surprised there was not enough correct answers at least the one i was looking for. There were suggestions that you can use a select statement for the updated rows and make it like a select (count) which works fine, but just looking into the SQL server books online, it shows that there is even a better way to do it.After the update statement in my stored procedure i used "@@ROWCOUNT" with a select statement and it works like a charm.so the little find for my first ever post on asp.net is that there is a better way to find the total updated rows by a query Example: DB: Northwind , Table Employeesupdate employees set extension='1234'select @@ROWCOUNT This will return 9 (default rows in this table) as the rows effectedHope this helps
Hi, I am trying to create a SSIS package, which will extract data from a SQL server view and populate the data in our local SQL server database tables. My objective is to get the data from the view such that only inserted and updated rows are fetched from the view. Note: the view does not expose any updated date type of column thru which I can check. So I guess I have to compare each and every field with my destination table row's fields.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to approach the problem. Thanks in advance.
currently i m developing a web application with using sql server 2005 and i was testing yesterday a sql update query with sql server management studio. in my update query i forgot to put where condition and now all the rows of table are updated. is there any solution to undo this and retrieve all rows back? Regards Selena
I know 2008 MS SQL Server has a timestamp data type that adds date and time when the rows are inserted. Is there a way to automatically update the date and time when the rows are updated?

I have a SQL script to insert data into a table as below:
INSERT into [SRV1INS2].BB.dbo.Agents2 select * from [SRV2INS14].DD.dbo.Agents
I just want to set a Trigger on Agents2 Table, which could delete all rows in the table , before carry out any Insert operation using above statement.I had below Table Trigger on [SRV1INS2].BB.dbo.Agents2 Table as below: But it did not perform what I intend to do.
USE [BB] GO /****** Object: Trigger Script Date: 24/07/2015 3:41:38 PM ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
We have recently moved our database to a SAN and I am trying to monitor performance. Does anyone know of a good way to monitor performance going to the SAN? I have been watching things like %Disk time and Avg Disk Queue Length, but does anyone know if these are acurrate when referring to a SAN? My %Disk Time is going up to numbers as high as 1200. The Disk queue length seems kind of low for seeing that high disk time as well.
Hi all! What is the best tool to use in order to get some SQL performance logs?I could use build in admin tool perfmon but I was wondering whetherthere is a way I could anaylse the write a report on the performanceusing EM ?Thank you in advance!
It is possible to write an application which monitors the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database's transaction log and captures data modified (values after modification) by transactions? Can you point me to some tutorial and API specification?
