Is There A Way Using Sqlexpress To Review The Most Recent Set Of Sql Commands Submitted To A Database?

May 18, 2007

is there a way using sqlexpress to review the most recent set of sql commands
submitted to a database?
I remember something about setting up logging in sql server 2000, but don't
see much about this on google or the news group for 2005.

Please Test My Script To Analyze Table Keys (was Submitted For Your Review...:)

Feb 25, 2005

Here is a script I wrote that analyzes datasets and returns all the minimal composite and unary keys that uniquely identify records. I wrote it because I frequently have to analyze client spreadsheets and non-normalized data tables.

On my desktop server it took about two minutes to analyze 2000 permutations of a table with 50 columns and 5000 records.

Please try it out for me and let me know if it chokes on anything, or if you see any ways it could be improved!

What Is Going On Here? SQL Commands And ODBC Commands Aren't Compatible

Oct 1, 2004

I'm building a simple webform, except Visual Studio and my service provider have combined to drive me nutty.

First, I MUST use an ODBC connection to my remote SQL Server do to some unknown configuartion problem. I've been playing with Visual Studio for only a month, so normally when something goes wrong I can go look in the mirror and find the culprit. This is different. I've got a totally functional web form with a SQL Connection, but when I try to change it to an ODBC Connection, I get the following error.

An OdbcParameter with ParameterName '@CertHolder' is not contained by this OdbcParameterCollection

My coding is fine because I stole it straight from the walkthrough and it works. But the specifications that Visual Studio provide are quite suspect. Please note the failure to include some key "@" signs.

Parametervalue Is Not Submitted To ReportServer

Feb 7, 2008

Good day!

I've following problem: There are a few reports, all with parameters, and they work fine. For most user. But there is one user, stupidly he is the CEO, whose parameter selections doesn't take effect, so that the whole data are shown in the report. One of the admins have tried it on the CEO's PC, so faulty operation is barred.

I've had a look into the execution log, and it seems that the parameter values are not submitted to the IIS, so for the parameters in the log have the default values, what is in my case NULL.

Maybe that the problem depends on the not really actual system of the CEO's PC. Don't know the version of the Internet Explorer or the XP's service pack.

Has anyone seen that and can me give any suggestion?

Thanks,
Torsten

Execute Multiple Sql Commands With One Trip To The Database.

Jun 12, 2007

Ive got a List<sqlCommand> and I want to execute all the commands in it, but only using one trip to the database. I dont need any return values from any of these commands. Most of the commands are update/insert/delete. Sometimes after a insert command there may be a command "set @NEWID =identity_insert"  to facilitate the next insert to a related table, but thats the only other type of command to insert/update/delete.I am using microsofts enterprise data application block. I want to execute all the commands in the list with just one trip to the database. Would the following code achieve this : db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase("wlmAdmin"); foreach (SqlCommand sc in saveCommands)            {                db.ExecuteNonQuery(sc);            }or would this make multiple trips to the database? Im not 100% on whats going on behind the db object. If I create the db Item in the constructor of my class using "db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase("wlmAdmin");" would this mean that every instance of that class would maintain an open database connection throughout its scope/lifetime?Ive created the class to retrieve all data using a single stored procedure and then when saving, the class builds a List of SqlCommands which as Ive mentioned I want to execute in one trip, to make the number of trips to the database as small as possible. Because of this I don't need the db object maintain an open connection to the database all the time. However It doesnt seem to have any dispose methods so Im not clear on how it operates.In the case that the code above opens a connection for each command, how would I got about batch executing the queries in one trip?Thanks,C

Please Review This UPDATE Sql Statement For Me

Mar 27, 2008

Thanks for looking at this for me. Here is the SQL Script as it stands so far.
UPDATE    TableImportHistorySET ImportStopTime = CONVERT(numeric, GETDATE(), 108), Elapsetime = CONVERT(numeric,GETDATE(), 108) - CAST((SELECT TOP 1 ImportStartTime FROM TableImportHistory  WHERE     TableName = 'ARCHRG'ORDER BY DataImportID DESC) AS numeric), Successful = 1WHERE (DataImportID = (SELECT TOP 1 DataImportID AS LastID FROM TableImportHistory WHERE TableName = 'ARCHRG') ORDER BY DataImportID DESC))
The Elapetime update portion of this statement is where I'm getting stuck (if I take it out the statement works)
I get the error "ERROR converting Data type NVARCHAR to Numeric" I've changed the data type in the Table from numric to varchar, nvarchar, decemial nothing works and not sure what I should set the Starttime and StopTime datatypes in the table to (any suggestions please)
Elapsetime = CONVERT(numeric,GETDATE(), 108) - CAST((SELECT TOP 1 ImportStartTime FROM TableImportHistory  WHERE     TableName = 'ARCHRG'ORDER BY DataImportID DESC) AS numeric)
Are there better ways to do this statement?

Getting A SQL Expert To Review SQL Server And DB?

Apr 3, 2007

Hi,

I posted last year when we were having problems with a new SQL box we had moved to here...

http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=74650

...we coded round most of the issues and deadlocks and things seemed to improve for quite a while but we have recently run into performance problems again of late.

The CPUs on our SQL box often thrash away at 100% and our ColdFusion website has begun running painfully slow.

Our developers/hosts have suggested we might need to look for a 3rd party SQL guru who could look at the SQL box, do some tracing etc. and perhaps make some recomendations around optimising the DB architecture or changing the way we run certain queries. At the moment we have only gut instinct on which bits of the DB are likely to be being hit most hard.

Our website has grown from being very small to being really quite busy and it's possible we are running into shortcomings with the design of the DB that need to be tackled before we can expand further.

I'm not sure what the protocol is (I see there is a Jobs part of the site) but I wondered about the possibility of getting one of you guys in for a short while to review our server and database, for a fee of course. I'm not sure how long it would take to review that kind of data and get a feel for the usage?

We are based in the UK and whilst I guess it could be done remotely it might be easiest if the person was UK based too.

I'm as much interested in feedback about the idea (it might be not workable/a good idea for example) as I am to people offering their services.

If this post breaks any rules please let me know.

Cheers,

Tem

Unable To Attach SQLExpress Database

Jul 13, 2007

 This is by FAR, the most frustrating problem I have dealt with for a while.I have a project containing a SqlExpress database that I created in Visual Studio 2005. Everything works perfectly on my development machine. However, upon copying the site up to the webserver, I get an error stating:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file
D:ContentwwwFMakerApp_DataClassAd.mdf failed. A database with the
same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located
on UNC shareI have read almost every article/forum post that resulted from a search with google. I also searched these forums, to no avail.Note - SQLExpress had just been downloaded and installed on the server, so it wasn't being used yet. Restore Master Database To SQLExpress

Sep 20, 2006

Hello,

I have a fresh install of sqlExpress and Management Studio Express on my test server. I want to restore my master database from backup.

From the command prompt I set the Sqlservr -s SQLEXPRESS -m

Then I opened another comand prompt and ran my SQLCMD script to restore the Master Database.

here is the sql script:
RESTORE DATABASE [Master] FROM DISK = N'E:COPLEYNEWSDATABASEBACKUPMaster.bak' WITH FILE = 1, MOVE N'mastlog' TO N'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDATAMaster_1.ldf', NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10
GO

I recieve the following error.

Msg 3154, Level 16, State 4, Server COPLEYNEWSSQLEXPRESS, Line 1
The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'Master' dat
abase.
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Server COPLEYNEWSSQLEXPRESS, Line 1

How do I restore a Master Database on SQL Express?

Unable To Attach SQLExpress Database

Jul 16, 2007

This is by FAR, the most frustrating problem I have dealt with for a while.

I have a project containing a SqlExpress database that I created in Visual Studio 2005. Everything works perfectly on my development machine. However, upon copying the site up to the webserver, I get an error stating:

An attempt to attach an auto-named database for fileD:ContentwwwFMakerApp_DataClassAd.mdf failed. A database with thesame name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is locatedon UNC share

I have read almost every article/forum post that resulted from a search with google. I also searched these forums, to no avail.

Note - SQLExpress had just been downloaded and installed on the server, so it wasn't being used yet. Server is Windows Server 2003.

Here are the following steps I have already taken:

Used SSEUTIL.EXE to verify that another database of the same name was not already attached
Uninstalled & reinstalled SQLExpress multiple times
Temporarily granted 'Full Control' permissions to 'Everyone' on the site folder to verify that it was not a permissions issue.
Created a very simple website, with a new database, one page - with one listbox control, and a sqldatasource. Got the exact same error. Should rule out a problem with my application.
Tried various flavors of the web.config connection string.
Probably other stuff that I forgot about, but will add if I remember.

The only things I could imagine being wrong are either a problem with my connectionString, or the fact that SQLExpress is installed on C:, and webstuff is on D: (Wasn't able to install SqlExpress to D: for some reason)

Connection String
<connectionStrings>
<add name="ClassAdConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;
AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|ClassAd.mdf;Integrated Security=true;User Instance=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>

So I have had like 12 strokes today. If anybody could help me get this fixed, I will spread tales of your awesomeness throughout the lands

I have included some extra info below in case it is needed.
Thanks, Adam.
