Join Two Tables And Only Return The Latest Data For The Child Table

I have two table, tblCharge and tblSentence, for each charge, there are one or more sentences, if I join the two tables together using ChargeID such as:
select * from tblCharge c join tblSentence s on c.ChargeID=s.ChargeID
, all the sentences for each charge are returned. There is a field called DateCreated in tblSentence, I only want the latest sentence for each charge returned, how can I do this?
I tried to create a function to get the latest sentence for a chargeID like the following:
select * from tblCharge c join tblSentence s on s.SentenceID=LatestSentenceID(c.ChargeID) but it runs very slow, any idea to improve it?

I have table "Clients" who have associated records in table "Mailings"
I want to populate a gridview using a single query that grabs all the info I need so that I may utilize the gridview's built in sorting.
I'm trying to return records containing the next upcoming mailing for each client.
The closest I can get is below:
I'm using GROUP BY because it allows me to return a single record for each client and the MIN part allows me to return the associated record in the mailings table for each client that contains the next upcoming 'send_date'
SELECT MIN(dbo.tbl_clients.client_last_name) AS exp_last_name, MIN(dbo.tbl_mailings.send_date) AS exp_send_date, MIN(dbo.tbl_mailings.user_id) AS exp_user_id, dbo.tbl_clients.client_id, MIN(dbo.tbl_mailings.mailing_id) AS exp_mailing_idFROM dbo.tbl_clients INNER JOIN

The user_id set at 1000 part is what makes it rightly pull in all clients for a particular user. Problem is, by using the GROUP BY statement I'm just getting the lowest 'mailing_id' number and NOT the actual entry associated with mailing item I want to return. Same goes for the last_name field. Perhaps I need to have a subquery within my WHERE clause?Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely..

Here is my SQL Query. The Table where the data is coming from has 19,000 rows of data however, this only returns 2550 rows of data.
In the where statment I am call all the select tables, with the OrbitimportId that is most recent. But it only returns 2500. I need help retirenving the entire liste with the most recent OrbitimportId.

i am trying to figure out how i can create an SSIS package to insert into multiple tables. After the first insert, I want to take the ID created (an Identity column) and then use that to insert into other associated (foreign key) tables.
For example, I have a table Users. The primary key is an Identity column. Once the SSIS insert is complete, the bulk load of new users has an identity ID value for each row. What I want to do, during the same SSIS package, is to take each row as it is inserted and add rows to other tables. Like, UserDepartment - it has a foreign key for the user id and a foreign key to the department being added. And, as part of this I will need to get the latest ID value and possibly some other values and store them in variables.
I looked at multi-cast, but I don't know/think that this will work for me.
does anyone know of a good example or article like this?

I am trying to insert data into two tables with a SSIS package. One table has a foreign key relationship to the other table's primary key. When I try to run the package, the package will just seems to hang up in bids. I have found two ways around the issue but I don't like either approach. Is there a way to set which table gets insert first?
If I uncheck the check constraints option on the child table, the package will run very quickly but this option alters the child table and basically disables the constraint. I don't like this option because it is altering the database.
The second approach is to set the commit level on both tables to say 10,000 and make sure that the multicast component has the first output path moved to the parent table. I don't like this option because I am not sure if the records are backed out if the package should abend after records have been committed.

I'm creating a sql stored procedure inside this proc it returns some information about the user, i.e location, logged in, last logged in, etc I need to join this on to the photos table and return the photo which has been set as the profile picture, if it hasn't been set then return the first top 1 if that makes sense?
The user has the option to upload photos so there might be no photos for a particular user, which I believe I can fix by using a left join
My photos table is constructed as follows:

Let's say I have a table of data as per the below..
I'm trying to extract only the green highlighted items..
The rules applied are: Only the latest data concerning all cases, and only 1 line (the latest) per case.
As you can see in the image, I don't want the 2nd,3rd, and 4th record extracted cause they are all superseded by more recent records (identified as they are further in the table).
I've considered using either Distinct or Having? but can't get that to work.. If I could use Distinct but then ensure it's the latest record in the table that would be perfect.

i tried with left outer join, but this is not working after join in result it shows more rows in booking table as original.
(No of records in booking table should be same after join as before, the thing is only to show brokers names) .

I have a parent package (i.e. P) and a child package (C). I was able to easily pass a variable value from P to C. And C did computations and get a result (i.e. integer) and stored this integer to a variable (x).
Now I want the value of "x" to be passed back to P and store in P's variable (say Px). Anyone knows how to ?

I have a problem...I have two tables, patient_tran and patient_plan. Patient_tran has case_entry_date and patient_id,patient_plan has patient_id, plan_Id, plan_eff_date and plan_term_date. I need to join these two tables and get the patient_id, plan_id but the plan_id should be the plan_id where the entry_date falls between plan_eff_date and plan_term_date. If doesn't match the criteria then pick up the plan_id where the plan_term_date is null, if there's no null plan_term_date then pick up the plan_id with the most recent plan_term_date. In patient_plan table, there's could be more than one plan per patient. How can I do this? Can anyone please help, will be most appreciated.

I have a table activity which show the activities of the site. An activity could be related with no other entity or it could be related with an account, or with a contact or with an opportunity. An opportunity and a contact could be also related with an account.
My problem is that I need to show the activity and the related account (if there is any) but because the relationship with an account could be done by different ways, I dont know how to do it without join the account table several times.

As you see, I have the table Cuenta joined 3 times. That means that I need to put the ActivityID field 3 times but based on how the report was developed, I could not do that.

I have got the following union statement:

FROM fsp_auftrag
GROUP BY fsp_auftrag.jahr, fsp_auftrag.monatnr, fsp_auftrag.kundenkreis, fsp_auftrag.kundengruppe, fsp_auftrag.abnehmergruppe, fsp_auftrag.artnr
My problem is that each table contains additional values like art_amount, art_turnover etc... whereby the first table contains plan values while the second table contains actual values.
My goal is to get plan as well as the actual values in one row, how is that possible? If I put the values into each of the selects I get two rows, which is not the wished output.
Is it possible to join the tables after the union took place?

I have a SQL database that has multiple tables I need to combine for an analytics presentation. The tables are PRODUCTS (contains product information and UPC), STORES (Store number, name and address), DATES (List of dates that data is published on), and DATA (quantity, by store, by UPC, by date). I am trying to combine these so that i have one table with a row for each UPC on each day at each store. Also, I would like to lookup values for year ago quantities at the same store for the same UPC. Is there a way to structure a query to provide all of this information? I know it will be a lot of rows, but I will filter by product prior to pulling the data.
I think the solution requires a subquery in the FROM portion of the statement, but I am not sure how to structure it. Here are the Fields:
Products.UPC, Data.UPC, Data.Store_Num, Stores.StoreNum, Data.StartDate, Dates.DateKey, and finally the reason we are here Data.Qty
I am using an Azure SQL Database.

Selecting the data from these two tables? The columns 'host_ext_id' have the same data BUT in 'adrmst' all data is preceeded by A0000.

I have two tables that share a common identity row. I need to build a query where data that exists in one table does not contain data in the other table. For example, table 1 has columns of Owner_ID, LastName, FirstName and table 2 has columns Auto_ID, Owner_ID, AutoMake. Both tables are joined by the Owner_ID column. I need a query that provides all owners from table 1 who do not have an entry in table 2.

I need to find all tables which has a join (either inside an sp, view, etc) with my given table in a db.
sys.dm_sql_referencing_entities doesn't work here.
Note: i dont want to identify by FK References, for 2 reasons:
1) tables might not met with a join (just FK was defined)
2) sometimes, a join happened between tables, without an FK defined

Here is the scenario,
I have 2 stored procedures, SP1 and SP2
SP1 has the following code:

SP2 has the following code:
SELECT *
FROM SP1 (which won't work because SP1 is a stored procedure. A view, a table valued function, or a temporary table must be used for this)
Views - can't use a view because they don't allow dynamic sql and the db_name() in the OPENROWSET function must be used.
Temp Tables - can't use these because it would cause a large hit on system performance due to the frequency SP2 and others like it will be used.
Functions - My last resort is to use a table valued function as shown:
FUNCTION MyFunction
( )
RETURNS @retTable
(
@Field1 int,
@Field2 varchar(50)
)
AS
BEGIN
