I want to call one linked server stored procedure from another stored procedure.

The linked server was not created When I executed the query. However, I was able to create the linked server when I executed this query(batch 2) alone.
Is there any limitation of SP which I am not aware of?
DTC - Transaction Context In Use By Another Session

I have a master package that executes a series of sub packages. The master package is run from a SQL Agent job. The packages are reading from and writing to two databases on the same instance of SQL Server 2005.
If I set the Execute Package Tasks for the sub packages without any precedence constraints between them and set TransactionOption = Required at the master package level (and supported from there downwards) I get the following errors.
The event log shows me:
The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D00A "Unable to enlist in the transaction.".
Running a SQL Profiler trace shows me:
Error: 3910, Severity: 16, State: 2
Transaction context in use by another session.
This problem is well documented and seems to go back to DTS in SQL Server 7.0 . . . see http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;279857&spid=2852&sid=150
I can get round it by setting precedence between the sub packages - making them run one at a time solves the problem. But then we don't get the performance benefits of running the packages concurrently. Does anyone have any other solutions.

Jun 6, 2006I'm having a SP1 on server A.
This procedure has a begin trans and a commit. In this procedure i'm inserting data into tables. This data is provided by an extrenal app in staging tables. On the tables i'm inserting data on i'm having triggers that again are starting a SP2. I'm using a cursor on the inserted table to achieve this. The SP2 only insert a record on a table that is on a linked server.
For testing reasons at this moment this is my dev machine too.
The error 'Trans ... ' pops up ....
Any suggestions ..

May 12, 2006I have written a stored procedure that calls a C# class. The sp is called by a trigger on table A. The class has 2 methods. Method 1 is the main call from the stored procedure. Inside it, it sets a connection to the db. Then it calls another private method which has it's own connection and returns a dataset so that I can close that connection by the end of the method. When I execute the sp from within sql management studio, it runs just fine. But when being called from the trigger, I get the "transaction context in use by another session error" error. I read that I needed to wrap my 2nd connection in ...
using (new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.Suppress)){ open conn here, do work, etc.}
I've tried that and I still get the same error from the trigger. Anyone know what else I can try? Thanks.

Im getting an error 'Transaction context in user by another session'.
I have not at all used BEGINTRANS / committrans , No Insert / Update statements.
the kind of SQL statements that i was using in that page load is only "SELECT statements"
Can any one give me answer how to get rid of this. I have used only one connection object. and result set as a loop containing few more result sets. But I m sure they are so complex statements to block the SQL server transactions.

Oct 30, 2006I am programming in ASP and SQL server.
I am using this tag <%Transaction=Required%> to do the transaction.
And it woks well, but the problem is that sometimes I get this error: "transaction context in use by another session"...
It's really weird because it only happens in the same row. If choose this row to be shown I get that message, but if choose another row I get result with no error. And if take out the tag <%Transaction... I don't get any error.
I've searched in other forums about this error, and one guy claims that there is a bug in the MTS and there is no way to solve the problem.

Removing the transaction from my code
making sure my code is only using 1 connection
setting XACT_ABORT ON

Mar 31, 2008I have a stored procedure 'ChangeUser' in which there is a call to another stored procedure 'LogChange'. The transaction is started in 'ChangeUser'. and the last statement in the transaction is 'EXEC LogChange @p1, @p2'. My questions is if it would be correct to check in 'LogChange' the following about this transaction: 'IF @@trancount >0 BEGIN Rollback tran' END Else BEGIN Commit END.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

I'm getting this when executing the code below. Going from W2K/SQL2k SP4 to XP/SQL2k SP4 over a dial-up link.
If I take away the begin tran and commit it works, but of course, if one statement fails I want a rollback. I'm executing this from a Delphi app, but I get the same from Qry Analyser.
I've tried both with and without the Set XACT . . ., and also tried with Set Implicit_Transactions off.

Feb 22, 2007I have a design a SSIS Package for ETL Process. In my package i have to read the data from the tables and then insert into the another table of same structure.
for reading the data i have write the Dynamic TSQL based on some condition and based on that it is using 25 different function to populate the data into different 25 column. Tsql returning correct data and is working fine in Enterprise manager. But in my SSIS package it show me time out ERROR.
I have increase and decrease the time to catch the error but it is still there i have tried to set 0 for commandout Properties.
if i'm using the 0 for commandtime out then i'm getting the Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction.
and
Failed to open a fastload rowset for "[dbo].[P@@#$%$%%%]". Check that the object exists in the database.
Please help me it's very urgent.
Setting A Schema Context For A Session
Apr 25, 2006Is there a way to specify a given Schema as the currently active one for a given database session ? i.e. im looking for somthing like:
Use Schema=<name>
Execute Queries / Stored Procs, etc
.....
I want all the Queries and Stored Procs to execute on the Schema set initially.
I can't use the Default_Schema on the User to do this due to certain restrictions in the way we create users and Schemas.
I know that i can always qualify the objects in the Queries with a Schema Name, but i have a requirement where the Queries need to be generic in nature and need to run on one of many identical schemas in the Database. Is this Possible in Sql Server?
Any help will be greately appreciated.

Current Security Context Not Trusted When Using Linked Server From SAP

I am experiencing a head-scratcher of a problem when trying to use a Linked Server connection to query a remote SQL Server database from our SAP R/3 system. We have had this working just fine for some time, but after migrating to new hardware and upgrading OS, DBMS, and R/3, now we are running into problems.
The target database is a named instance on SQL Server 2000 SP3, Windows 2000 Server. The original source R/3 system was also on SQL Server 2000 (SP4), Windows 2000 Server. I had been using a Linked Server defined via SQL Enterprise Manager (actually defined when the source was on SQL Server 7), which called an alias defined with the Client Network Utility that pointed to the remote named instance. This alias and Linked Server worked great for several years.
Now we have migrated our R/3 system onto new hardware, running Windows Server 2003 SP1 and SQL Server 2005 SP1. I redefined the Linked Server on the new SQL 2005 installation, this time avoiding the alias and referencing the remote named instance directly, and it tests out just fine using queries from SQL Management Studio. It also tests fine with OSQL called from the R/3 server console, both when logged on as the application service account with a trusted connection, and with a SQL login as the schema owner. From outside of the application, I cannot make it fail. It works perfectly.
That all changes when I try to use the Linked Server within an SAP custom program (ABAP), however. The program crashes with a database interface error. The database error code is 15274, and the error text is "Access to the remote server is denied because the current security context is not trusted."
I have set the "trustworthy" property on the R/3 database, I have ensured the service account is a member of the sysadmin SQL role, I've even made it a member of the local Administrators group on both source and target servers, and I've done the same with the SQL Server service account (it uses a domain account). I have configured the Distributed Transaction Coordinator on the source (Win2003) system per Microsoft KB 839279 (this fixed problems with remote queries coming the other way from the SQL2000 system), and I've upgraded the system stored procedures on the target (SQL2000) system according to MS KB 906954. I also tried making the schema user a member of the sysadmin role, but that was disastrous, resulting in an instant R/3 crash (don't try this in production!), so I set it back the way it was (default).
What's really strange is no matter how I try this from outside the R/3 system, it works perfectly, but from within R/3 it does not. A search of SAP Notes, SDN forums, SAPFANS, Microsoft's KnowledgeBase, and MSDN Forums has not yielded quite the same problem (although that did lead me to learning about the "trustworthy" database property).
Any insight someone could offer on this thorny problem would be most appreciated.

Linked Server Issue Using Logins Current Security Context
Nov 9, 2007From my desktop in Management Studio (MS) I can connect to server A and run a query like,
select top 1 * from serverB.mydatabase.dbo.mytable, and all seems to be working. If I leave and come back after a few minutes it no longer works and I get this error:
Msg 18452, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
If I remote connect to server B and run the query it works and when I try it from my desktop MS it starts working again. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Mar 19, 2002Whenever I run this DTS package that has a SQLTask, I get the following error message: "Maximum stored procedure nesting level exceeded(Limit 32)"
What does this mean? My query was working fine, but now I'm recieving this error message. I won't complet my required task. Is there any way to change the nesting level to be unlimited. I am totally confused. If you can please help. Thanks again.

Linked Server Problem With Exec @result=myproc
Jan 31, 2002I'm having some weird problems with calling remote stored procedures.
Two servers, both windows 2000 sp2, both running sql 7 version 7.00.961.
Server A is actually a cluster, but server B is a development server and not a cluster.
First off, server B can link to server A, but server A can't link to server B. We get a can't create connection error. We've used the client network utility to specify tcp/ip for both. I'm using the link settings as SQL Server connection (rather than an odbc connection) mapped to the sa user id and password. The password is blank on server B though.
I can run a remote stored procedure on server A from server B fine. I get the proper response back too. I can select anything from any database on A from B without trouble.
But here's my problem: If I use exec @result=ServerA.MyDB.dbo.myproc from server B, @result is always null. If I run MyDB.dbo.myproc from server A directly, @result comes back with the proper value.
I tried using an OUTPUT argument but it has the identical results. If I run it on server A, it works. If I run it from server B, the output argument is null.
Just for grins, I tried setting the @result value to 0 before calling MyProc. It didn't come back null, but it came back as the same value I set it before calling the procedure.
I verified that the sqlagent user has full permissions to the temp directory. TMP and TEMP both point to the same ..localemp directory, and it has full permissions in that directory.
Does anyone have any idea of things I can try? Is there a known bug with cluster services? I don't think this is happening when server B links to another server that isn't clustered.

Context Of Procedure Call That Results In Trigger

- calls a stored procedure which performs an insert,
- the insert causes a trigger to be fired
- the trigger causes a sql statement to execute against a different
database
Questions:
* Does the user who called the procedure, also need permissions to this 2nd database ?
* What security context does this trigger get executed ?
I have a stored procedure that is being called by my .Net application. The user account that makes the connection has execute permission to the procedure. However, the procedure does an insert which causes a trigger to fire. This trigger does a sql statement against a table in a different database, which the user who is calling the procedure, does not have permissions to access. Im getting an exception when I call the procedure, and it basically says there was a permission error with the user accessing this other database.
Context Connection Transaction

I need some some clarifications on how Context connections and transactions inter operate in CLR.
The context connection allows for ADO objects to be " running in the same transaction space". So the association to the current transaction is implied. So as long as I set for example my SqlCommand to use the context connection I am going to be running under the same transaction.

SqlCommand sqlComm = new SqlCommand("EXEC myCommand", sqlConn);
I guess my ambiguity comes from the fact that the Transaction is not specifically specified.
In addition what happens upon a trigger that for example watches and insert on a table? If the insert occurs under a transaction, I would assume that I will be also picking up that transaction in the CRL Trigger, thus the whole operation would seem atomic.

Using LINQ And Context Acts Like It Is In Transaction.
Apr 18, 2008I am using VS2008 Team Edition under Vista with SQL Compact 3.5
I am trying to develop an app using C# and LINQ and take advantage of the Sync services. The problem is that everything seems to work but nothing ever really gets saved out to the local .sdf file. I have all the SQL commands logged to the the console and they seem fine. I have SubmitChanges() wrapped in a try/catch and no exceptions are thrown. When I requery the context for the data the new added rows do show up. If while the application is open, I go to VS2008 and query the file I just added to, I don't see the new rows. If I exit the application and try I still don't see them. If I restart the application the rows show up. If I exit the app and refresh the connection to the .sdf file in VS and then restart the application the inserted records are gone.
They act exactly as if when I made my connection to the database I started a transaction (which I didn't do, at least no explicitly) that I never commit. Did I miss some basic point about opening a connection to SQL compact?
I connect when the app launches and I store the context in a member variable of my class which doesn't go out of scope until the application quits. I tried creating a new connection in a local method right around the call to SubmitChanges() but it behaved the same.

I have a linked server named 'Charlie_File' to an Excel Workbook that I set up in SQLServer 2005 Management Studio. The workbook is on my local C drive. Sometimes, I get the results back that I expect when I run the following query;
SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(Charlie_file, 'SELECT * FROM [Feb$]')
Sometimes, on subsequent runs of the above query, I get the following message;
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "Charlie_file" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "Charlie_file".
There seems to be about a minute or so of a delay before the query will run correctly on subsequent attempts. Is there a connection issue here where a connection blocks subsequent attempts to select the data within a specific time span?

Scripting Stored Procedure Add With Linked Server Reference When Linked Server Is Not Available
Jul 18, 2006Is there a way to bypass the syntax checking when adding a stored procedure via a script?
I have a script that has a LINKed server reference (see below) .
INSERT
INTO ACTDMSLINKED.ACTDMS.DBO.COILS ..etc.
ACTDMSLINKED does not exist at the time I need to add the stored procedure that references it.
PLEASE to not tell me to add the LINK and then run the script. This is not an option in this scenerio.

May 15, 2008Hello, I've a problem with a software developed in C# with the framework 2.0. This is the error I receive : The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "XXX_LINKED_SERVER" was unable to begin a distributed transaction. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "XXX_LINKED_SERVER" returned message "No transaction is active.". If I try directly to restart the process, it works fine. Is there someone who can help me ? This is the process 1. In C# --> Call of a Query : select from the linked server (db in sql 2005) and insert into a table SQL 2005 2. In the C# --> using (TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope()) and insert in a table in SQL 2005 which is link server Thank in advance.

There was a distributed trasaction set up and functioning fine, But gave the following error recently.
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' does not support distributed transactions
[OLE/DB provider returned message: Distributed transaction error]
Could anyone please help why is this error and how can be rectified.

Linked Server Transaction Locks...

I've been experiencing an issue related to linked server. Here is the scene:
- Application A queries View V located in SQL Server S1
- View V accesses Table T located in SQL Server S2 using a linked server
The problem is:
- Application A start the transaction and it simply gets locked. It throws no errors nor exceptions.
Important:
- S1 and S2 are in different machines
- When S1 = S2, then the application successfully access View V.
Any suggestions?
