I was checking this site:
http://www.aspfree.com/c/a/Microsoft-Access/Configuring-a-Linked-Microsoft-Access-Server-on-SQL-2005-Server/
and I do not know what parameters are neeed to do the following two.
Configuring a Linked Microsoft Access Server on SQL 2005 Server - Linked Servers on SQL 2005 Server
I would also like to know how to do it through this method as well.
Configuring a Linked Microsoft Access Server on SQL 2005 Server - Using the Management Studio to set up a Linked Server Sorry for the large typing I was using cut and paste to make sure I had everything correct.
I tried this syntax in SQL Mngt Studio which i got from SQL menu.
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'Test2', @provider = 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', @srvproduct = 'OLE DB Provider for Jet', @datasrc = 'C:MSOfficeonus.mdb' GO
Linked is created but when i tried to open the table from bonus.mdb using the linked servers-Test2-Catalogs-System Catalogs-default-Tables the tables are not showing and throwing an error of OLE DB provider ....... for linked server "Test2" reported an error. Authentication Failed. Cannot initialize..
I need detailed instructions on how to connect to a database from a Microsoft Access 2007 database to a Microsft Office Accounting 2007 database. The accounting database is an SQL 2005 datbase. It has an instance name of "MSSMLBIZ".
When I try I get an SQL error 53. Do not have permissions or database does not exist.
I am trying to add a linked table to my server, it is an access table.
Here is the code i am using but i get an error: EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'AITdb_be2', @provider = 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', @srvproduct = 'Access', @datasrc = '\kcapp03deptsCommonEIQAIT DBTestAITdb_be.mdb' GO
-- Set up login mapping using current user's security context EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname = 'AITdb_be2', @useself = 'false', @rmtuser = 'Admin', @rmtpassword = '' GO
-- List the tables on the linked server EXEC sp_tables_ex 'AITdb_be2' GO
ERROR: OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "AITdb_be2" returned message "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\kcapp03deptsCommonEIQAIT DBTestAITdb_be.mdb'. I have a sql server 2005 db. Is there anyway I can link access to be used as a frontend by my client for viewing the data? is this possible through linked table manager?
Looks like the Office 2003 MS Access has no support for creating a linked server and implement design changes. While you could link to the SQL 2005 tables, which show up as queries in MS Access 2003, any further use of the linked queries are not supported unless the Access 2003 version came out after the SQL 2005 release. What kind of an update is needed, or fix is needed so that Access projects can be developed?
I have an app that creates and attaches tables from SQL Server into an Access mdb using an ODBC link from VB6 using DAO 3.51 on Windows 2000. Recently I upgraded to SQL Server Express edition and tested it. It worked fine against the Express Edition. So, I installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on our Server hoping that they operate identically. How wrong one can be! the same code that worked against Express Edition does not work on Standard Edition.
It is strange that the App works for about 5 seconds which attaches about 38 tables and after that the connection drops and I have a hell of a time to get the rest of the tables linked. The error that comes up is:
Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 10060 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 11 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]General network error. Check your network documentation.
The PC that I am using to connect is in a different domain to the Server where the SQL Server database resides. I thought that domains might be the reason. But even joining the PC to the same domain as the server still does not work and behaves the same. So I do not think it is a domain related issue.
I have also looked at the SQL Server and database configurtaions. I cannot see anywhere any specific time out of around 5 seconds. Even the time out through the SQL Server ODBC driver is set to 30 seconds by default as far as I know. So, it looks like there is a time out somewhere but I am absolutely confused as to where this 5 second time out is comming from.
I also thought permissions on the database or tables might be the issue but after looking at the database and table permissions, they all look OK. The user has prettymuch the same access as the SA on the database.
Has anybody came across this problem? If so, I appreciate if someboday can give me a hint as to where I can start.
Hi, I'm going to be extracting data from a DB2 database on an AS400. I've set up the Datasource ok, and have created a Datasource View. There are about 5 tables in the view so far, taken from 3 DB2 libraries. This is fine, but the tables in the view have no field definitions in them, and I can't access the data. If I try I get an error message:
Code SnippetSQL0104: Token . was not valid. Valid tokens: , FROM INTO. Cause . . . . . : A syntax error was detected at token .. Token . is not a valid token. A partial list of valid tokens is , FROM INTO. This list assumes that the statement is correct up to the token. The error may be earlier in the statement, but the syntax of the statement appears to be valid up to this point. Recovery . . . : Do one or more of the following and try the request again: -- Verify the SQL statement in the area of the token .. Correct the statement. The error could be a missing comma or quotation mark, it could be a misspelled word, or it could be related to the order of clauses. -- If the error token is <END-OF-STATEMENT>, correct the SQL statement because it does not end with a valid clause.
The connection has Force Translate set to 0 which solved a problem with incorrect data coming back when I connected using a quick C# program.
I'm trying to set up an Oracle database as a linked server in SQL server 7 but having some problems.
The client software is installed and seems to be working fine (Used access to link some tables). I set the product name to Oracle 8.1 and the Datasource to the system dns name. I left provider string, location and catalog blank. Under the security tab I had it set to map to the oracle account and also tried the impersonate option, but always got the same error.
Error: 7399 OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error. Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed] ORA-12640: Authentication Adapter initialization failed]
This is my first time trying to set up and Oracle database as a linked server, any help is appreciated.

i have built my website and created the four tables in the alloted MySQL area that came with my website package.
BIG QUESTION:

I have two production servers with two different databases and I was thinking about using Linked Servers, but never did this before.Found this stored procedure
sp_addlinkedserver('servername').Would you just execute this and then run your query after the SP?
We have been asked to look into using stored procedures with SQL Server 7.0 as a way to speed up a clients site. 99% of all the articles I have read along with all the books all say Stored Procedure should be used whenever possible as opposed to putting the SQL in your ASP script. However one of my colleagues has been speaking to Microsoft and they said that that they were surprised that our client wanted to use Stored Procedures as this was the old method of database access and that now he should really consider using COM objects for data access as itis much faster. Has anyone got any views on this or know of any good aticles regarding this matter ?
Dear all if i want to write one program use vc++2005 to connection access database with MFC system , which idea is best. does any sample code i can use in this case or any concept i can read it first?
I am working on a software system which create a database in SQL Server 2005 and then operate on this database. I want the database to be access only from the software system and not from the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. How can I achieve it?
I am using SQL 2008 r2. I have two SQL Queries from 2 different database but they share one server. I need to linked these two SQL Queries as they share the same Primary key which CustomerID see example below
Query 1
Database::Student Select StudentID , FName, LName From Student
Query 2
Database ::Finance Select StudentID,Tution FROM Payment
I need to be able combine two query which come from two database but they share one server.I would like to use two temp tables so that I can perform a left / right join to retrieve the data by linking two queries using primary id which they both share ( StudentID)
Summary : I have two DB's on the same server. I have two simple select queries for each DB which work correctly.
I hope I am giving the right information here to get help with this.

Hi all, I am stuck with a problem using ASP.Net website. I created a website which accesses a database table in SQL Server 2005. The default.aspx is a form which inserts/updates/deletes data from the database. After creating the website I published it to IIS (Inetpub -> wwwroot). When I use Visual Studio 2005 and build the website and start with debugging. the form comes up and i can insert/update or delete the data from the table as I want. Now, as I have the website published I can access the form from another sharepoint website using the url as /Employee_Data/Default.aspx">http://<mydesktop>/Employee_Data/Default.aspx the form shows up but I am not able to access any of the database. I do not see any errors either. Once I click on the button the page just refreshes but nothing else happens. I have my web.config as :- <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <appSettings/> <connectionStrings/> <system.web> <compilation debug="true"/> <authentication mode="Windows"/> </system.web> </configuration>
Am I missing something? I even have Anonymous access in the IIS inetpub properties. I can even the database as I am the administrator..... I appreciate your suggestions.
Hi All ... Can anyone help me import a ms access (97) table into a sql 2005 express database? The sql database already contains other tables but I would like to add some of my older access tables to this database without having to re-enter all the data. Please help! Thanks!
We have 1 machine running SQL Server 2005 x64 (64 bit). The other machine is backing this SQL Server up. It is a 32-bit machine, so it requires (?) a 32-bit version of SQL Server 2005.
Would this back-up machine work correctly on a database previously managed by a 64-bit machine and vice versa.
A question regarding SQL Server 2005 Express edition. Is it possible to export Access databases into SQL databases without using programming (e.g. using SQL and programming languages)?
I understand you can do this with DTS, but the Express edition seems not have DTS.
I want to migrate my Access XP database to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The Start Menu does not display any migration assistant in SQL Server 2005 Express menu list.
I have to export data from SQL Server 2005 express to Access database. I have done many import/export using DTS package via SQL 2000. I don't have BI installed in my SQL SERVER 2005 Express. I understand that I have to use SSIS for sql server 2005. Any help is greatly appreciated.
We want to deny access to sql server 2005 database by the sql management studio or any other sql editor while our developed application can access the database even malicious user gets the login name and password by disassembling our code
