Lookup and commit; How it works
I am importing data from text file and I have data lookup to check reference table.
If the reference row doesn't exist I want to add row to reference table, other wise row is added to the detail table.
I am using oledb destination to saving reference table row with rows per batch to 1 and maximum insert commit size to 1.
When I run the package duplicate rows are in grid view. How can duplicates end in there the commit size is 1? Next time the data exists in reference table and should be going to detail not to reference table.
We did some "at scale" fuzzy lookup tests today and were rather disappointed with the performance. I'm wanting to know your experience so I can set my performance expectations appropriately.
We were doing a fuzzy lookup against a lookup table with 25 million rows. Each row has 11 columns used in the fuzzy lookup, each between 10-100 chars. We set CopyReferenceTable=0 and MatchIndexOptions=GenerateAndPersistNewIndex and WarmCaches=true. It took about 60 minutes to build that index table, during which, dtexec got up to 4.5GB memory usage. (Is there a way to tell what % of the index table got cached in memory? Memory kept rising as each "Finished building X% of fuzzy index" progress event scrolled by all the way up to 100% progress when it peaked at 4.5GB.) The MaxMemoryUsage setting we left blank so it would use as much as possible on this 64-bit box with 16GB of memory (but only about 4GB was available for SSIS).
After it got done building the index table, it started flowing data through the pipeline. We saw the first buffer of ~9,000 rows get passed from the source to the fuzzy lookup transform. Six hours later it had not finished doing the fuzzy lookup on that first buffer!!! Running profiler showed us it was firing off lots of singelton SQL queries doing lookups as expected. So it was making progress, just very, very slowly.
We had set MinSimilarity=0.45 and Exhaustive=False. Those seemed to be reasonable settings for smaller datasets.
Does that performance seem inline with expectations? Any thoughts to improve performance?
I'm working with an existing package that uses the fuzzy lookup transform. The package is currently working; however, I need to add some columns to the lookup columns from the reference table that is being used.
It seems that I am hitting a memory threshold of some sort, as when I add 3 or 4 columns, the package works, but when I add 5 columns, the fuzzy lookup transform fails pre-execute:
Pre-Execute Taking a snapshot of the reference table Taking a snapshot of the reference table Building Fuzzy Match Index component "Fuzzy Lookup Existing Member" (8351) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0x8007007A.
These errors occur regardless of what columns I am attempting to add to the lookup list.
I have tried setting the MaxMemoryUsage custom property of the transform to 0, and to explicit values that should be much more than enough to hold the fuzzy match index (the reference table is only about 3000 rows, and the entire table is stored in less than 2MB of disk space.
Say I want to lookup a value in another dataset, but there is a grouping that requires you to know what the values for each level is in order to get to the correct detail record. Can you still use the lookup function with more than one field to compare against? So for example
Department \___SalesPerson \___Measure
I want to be able to add a new row at the Measure level, but lookup each field from another dataset. In order to do that I will need the Department AND SalesPerson values to do the lookup, but I dont think the Lookup function will let us do that will.
Actually this is in regard to SCD Type 2 Dimension, Scenario is like that I am moving Fact table from some old source and I have dimensionA description value in fact which I want to replace with appropriate id from Dimension Table and that Dimension table is SCD Type 2 based on StartDate and EndDate and Fact Table doesn't contains direct date value rather there is timeId in Fact so to update the value in Fact table I have to Join Time Dimension table and other Dimension Table to replace fact Description with proper Id.
I am doing a lookup that requires mapping 2 columns in the column mapping section. When I do this, I get the error "Row yielded no match during lookup" . The SQL that I captured in SQL profiler does find the record when I run it in Management Studio. I have already tried trimming everything to no avail.
Why is this happening?
I tried enabling memory restrictions but then I my package hangs and I get a SQLDUMPER_ERRORLOG.log file with the following logged:
I've got a popular problem so i get a message that server acces denied! ..
But that what is different in my error.... When i use same setting same database and connection string (on MSDE server) there is no problem...
On SQL server i have got windwos authentication but i added all accounts as ASPNET and SA.... and when i try to connect by
RETTO - name of my server
server=RETTO;uid=sa;pwd=password;database=db1; or by Integrated Security=SSPIserver=RETTO;uid=RETTOASPNET;database=db1;
I CAN BROWSE RECORDS THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH CONNECTION!!! but when i try to update or iinsert or delete something in database there becomame this error that access denied or server does not exist!!!
PLEASE HELP I'm FIGHTING WITH THAT FOR OVER 5 DAYS!!!
I MADE FOR MY ACCOUNTS (SA, ASPNET) ALL THINGS ALLOWED AS EXECUTING stored procedures.. OR ACCESING datatables with insert delete and update query WHERE IS THE PROBLEM!!!??
I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:
Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.
I can ping the server
I have enabled shared memory and tcp/ip in protocols, named pipes and via are disabled
I do not have any aliases set up
No I do not force encryption
I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?
I have a Conditional Split with 3 outputs. On the first output I have a lookup, when I execute the package I have 56 rows going through the Conditional Split, all rows are then going to the 2nd and 3rd output but the lookup on the first output generates an error "Row yielded no match during lookup".
I don't understand why the lookup is generating an error while there is no row going through it.
I am designing a ssis package,This is intends to mine text data(Data extracted from websites). Term lookup/Term extraction has been used as tools for mining. I have lookup terms defined with me for reference table, but the main problem lie in extracting the nearby text/number/charcters to these lookup terms during mining. For example : I found noun "Email" 200 (frequency score) times in my text,Now I want to extract nearby email address(this is also true for PhoneNumber,Address attributes also).so how can I achieve this with SSIS. If u have some idea/suggestion to carry out this challenge with or without Term Extraction/Term Lookup, plz do write here.
I use the code below for updating data from a AS400 Liked server. I dont understend how the WHERE NOT EXISTS( sections work however usualy they do, in this case it does not andt I can't seem to find out why.
Does anyone see the error?
Thanks

I don't know MS-SQLserver internal system at all. I 've just used Oracle a couple years ago and so in some cases (e.g using TP-monitor MTS or Tuxedo) you can switch off the implicit transaction by using the option AUTOCOMMIT ON/OFF.
How can switch off the implicit transaction system on MS-SQLServer ?
Iam Executing the sp logic.suppose incase if any problem occurs inbetween execution(NO SPACE,communication failure, log full) data is getting commited partially insteady of rollbacking entire transaction.
CREATE procedure RBI_Control_sp as begin
set nocount on --Checking the count before truncating exec fin_ods..count_sp
--Truncating the Table exec fin_ods..trun_sp
--Data Transfer exec fin_ods..RBI_Data_Transfer_sp
--Checking the count after Data transfer exec fin_ods..count_sp
--temp table Table population,Fetching data from the fin_ods[erp Table] exec FIN_wh..RBI_SPExecution_sp
I've a complex stored procedure, that makes a lot of insert, update, delete and so on.I would like to make some commits durint this sp, but of course theyare not "real" commit because who call the sp could decide for arollback. But I know that this commit has to be real. In fact, the transactionlog grows really too much during the execution. Is there a way to force a commit durint a sp ?thank you very much!
I have an SSIS package that iterates through a thousand or so download text files, parses them and inserts the results into a database via a Stored procedure and an OLE DB Command.
For the most part this process works without any issues, yet I keep obtaining random errors on a DT_STR (500) column. I have reviewed the data extensively and this column - which is the same across all of the rows - does not appear to be any different.
The rest of the rows before and after the error rows all insert properly but these rows consistently fail in the OLE DB task with the following error:
[OLE DB Command [35549]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E14 Description: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. The RPC name is invalid.".
When I inserted the rows into an errors table, I found that the error code, -1071607698, is not defined and the only thing I could find online was a reference to:
DTS_E_COMMANDDESTINATIONADAPTERSTATIC_UNAVAILABLE
which appears to be a DTS error and not an SSIS error.
I have added tasks to explicitly verify the length of the field and that field actually inserts without any issues into the error table - which has the exact same column definition as the target table.
I am at a complete loss as to how to proceed - does anybody have an idea?
when doing an 'update table set field1 = 'N',using sql query analyzer, is the update committed immediately? If it isn't commited can a 'rollback' be executed, and what is the format of the rollback command?
I'm using an SQL Express database over a network, using a C# Express program. So I had to use pure SQL connections and commands instead of using Data Sources (couldn't find a way for it to work). In the program / DB I've got a couple of Master - Detail situations. Something like:
Product:
-----------
productID
(...)
Acessories:
----------------
acessID
(...)
ProductAcess:
--------------------
productID
acessID
So when inserting a new Product, I'll have to first insert the product (with product name, price, and so on) and once I get the product ID from the insert command, I'll insert the ProductAcess rows. I've found a problem in this though. If for some reason the insert of the product is successful, but the insert of ProductAcess fails, I've got a big mess in hands because I'll have a row in Product with no rows in ProductAcess (which shouldn't happen in my program scenario). I could solve this by deleting all rows from the DB which connected in someway to the product that failed to insert, but would be far better and correct if I used a commit command at the end of the insert commands to make sure only the right data would be inserted (saving time and resources). I use this all the time in Oracle databases, but don't know if it is possible in SQL Express... Is it? How? Thanks
My data flow has several transformations: 1. Search an employee, if the employee already exists, update it, otherwise insert it. 2. Once the new employee is created, i have to get its id (with another search transformation )to update another table with it. This id is an autonumeric , thats the reason i have to get it once the record is inserted.
At this momment this second search transformation to get the assigned id for the new reacord doesnt find any employee... i suppose its because these new data is not commited in the database....
This is a really wide spread - more than a time discussed - on SQL CE MSDN Forums - Issue !!! Is there any way i can commit changes which happens during runtime (when i am developing the application) such as inserts/updates and deletes to the .sdf DB on the machine ?????
I have several sets of code that need to delete rows from more than one database at a time. The rows are basically linked without being identified as having a foreign key. This means I issue two deletes. If one fails, especially the second one, there is no way to roll the first delete back. Can someone either point me to some code that enables me to link the deletions, allowing me to insure that both are successful or both do not occur. I cannot identify any fields on the secondary database table as specifically linked to the primary, as the secondary database is a storage medium for images, that may be linked to more than one different table.TIA for any opinions, options, etc. Tom
I use loop to insert few record into a table:But the for_Loop only loop once and throw an error:"The variable name '@res_name' has already been declared. Variable names must be unique within a query batch or stored procedure."What should i do to get this fix?Code:Protected Sub confirm_button_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)Dim DataSources1 As New SqlDataSource()DataSources1.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ConnectionString").ToString()DataSources1.InsertCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.TextDataSources1.InsertCommand = "INSERT INTO cust_order (res_name, my_menu) VALUES (@res_name, @my_menu)"Dim c As IntegerFor c = 0 To selectListBox.Items.Count - 1 Step +2DataSources1.InsertParameters.Add("res_name", selectListBox.Items(c).Text)DataSources1.InsertParameters.Add("my_menu", selectListBox.Items(c + 1).Text)DataSources1.Insert()Next End Sub
I first must delete any existing log for my current record.
Then verify that the "exec @res = gmw_updatesynclog..." has not failed and a delete log entry has been successfully written as verified by the gmw_updatesynclog's return of int 16.
If all is well then I incrment my counter and delete the record, here in testing I'm just updateing the activity code to del so I can find them, in live I'll just be deleting them.

Many times i write stoted procedures with transaction blocks. I have delete a row after begin transaction and in continue i read from table the select statement get back the deleted row:
begin tran delete mytable where id = @myid and seqid = 3
select sum(balance) from mytable where id = @myid
............ ............... commit tran .... OR rollback tran
the sum(balance) function has calculate the balance of row 3 I use SQL 7.0
Hi, I have a procedure of 6500 lines in which i have given a save point at the beginning of the procedure. And am storing the error number in a variable through out the procedure using select of @@error. And at the end if my @error_number is not zero then am rolling back the tranasction else commit the transaction.
Its giving me the error Msg 266, Level 16, State 2, Line 5437 Transaction count after execute indicates that a commit or rollback transaction statement is missing. Previous count = 0, Current count = 1.
Reviewing the MSSQL process info screen, I am seeing the same process appear a numer of times. It is always the same, being
'IF @@TRANCOUNT > 0 COMMIT TRAN'
Sometimes, there can be up to a hundred of these processes (listed in the process info screen). They generally have a 'sleeping' status, but nonetheless, I would like to see these processes disappear if they are not being used.
I have checked in all of the stored procedures and triggers in the application, and none have this sql statement.
When I run profiler, I get these entries, but the profiler says they belong to either SQL Enterprise Manager or 'Microsoft Windows 2000 Operating System', and not to the application I am running.
Does anyone know where these transactions come from? Can I prevent these from appearing? If no, what is the impact (other than sql server having to maintain a connection).
if l want to commit the transactions after every thousand how would l build it into the script?
