I need to restore a copy of database to a new db name
i'm trying by creating a new db and restoring by doing
RESTORE DATABASE [userr] FROM DISK = N'D:sqlbackupsuser.bak' WITH FILE = 4, NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10
GO
i'm getting an error
Msg 3154, Level 16, State 4, Line 1
The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'userr' database.
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
Hi: I have installed sql server 2005 express and SQL Server Management Studio Express How can I generate a database from another copying the structure and data? For example I have a database named Customers, I need to make a copy of Customers named Customers2. Customers2 also will be attached to the same Database Engine Server where Customers is attached. How I Can do it? Thanks! P.S. I tryied to make a copy of mdf an ldf files from Windows Explorer and renamed these files but I could not attach to the same Database Engine Server because I got an error.
I'm trying to make a copy of our 2005 SQL Server production database (25 meg) so we can install it in a new office being set up in another state. I have right clicked on the database I want to copy, selected Tasks, then option Copy Database... I'm trying to put the copy on the same server, and I am doing this work signed into the Management Studio as "sa" The wizard creates 5 steps, the first 4 run ok, then the 5th step runs for 10 to 20 seconds, then quits. The message says to look in the log on the server for the reason it quit. The only log I can find is the Error Logs at the bottom of the Object Explorer window. I look into the current log, then select the SQL Server log, the current one. There is only one line in here about the copy I just tried, and it only says "Starting up database XXXXXXXX" which is the database I'm trying to create through the copy process. Within Database Mail, SQL Agent, and Windows NT log lines, I can not find any reference to the copy job that just bombed. Needless to say, I'm VERY new to all of this SQL Server admin stuff. If someone could point me in the right direction, it would really help! Thanks!

Hello! What is the best way to make a copy of an existing sql server database to another (physical) server? Plan to make a full backup of another sql server database to another server. I've read about detach and attach and copying the datafiles and log files but some say it is prone to data loss? Is this true?
And another thing, what if the existing sql server can't affor downtime for me to copy db files etc.?
I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:
alter database DBmirrorTest Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022'; go
The error message is:
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.
I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)
1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1
2. backup database log
3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2
4. restore db with norecovery
5. restore log with norecovery
6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2

Hi! I did: alter database mydb set single_user with rollback immediate; exec sp_detach_db @dbname='mydb', @keepfulltextindexfile='true';
then I tried to copy files to new location on other drives, same server but got >>Cannot copy <myfile>: Access is denied Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use<<
I also tried rename of file without success. I also tried with db service stoppet (not preferred) without success.
How to find out, which process locks the files? Best regards
if i have a given database (a model) and i want to copy this database in the same database instance. Is it ok to copy the mdf and ldf file and attach the files with a new database name in the same instance.
I am attempting to use the copy wizard to copy databases from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 R2 w/ FP1.
The copy fails with a login failure to SQL Server 2005. I have a user id & password under Windows for both servers. I have a user id and password under SQL security with the called for admin security rights.
The 2005 server has two instances, 20 databases, two dozen maintenance plans, and over a hundred users. I really would like to use the utility so I don't have to recreate everything manually.

Hi guys, I have a car_race table which has these fields
car_id int race_id int b_car_won varchar // can have 'y' or 'n'
I need to know if the car lost the 1st race but won the next race
And example of that table for car_id 1:
car_id 1 race_id 1 b_car_won 'NO'
car_id 1 race_id 2 b_car_won 'YES'
Now this is the tricky part, the database has some data integrity issues, so this can occur:
car_id 1 race_id 1 b_car_won 'NO'
car_id 1 race_id 3 b_car_won 'YES'
So I cant used a fixed race_id value, need to use the race_id > 1 to know whats the next race. But this raises another issue if I have this in the database:
car_id 1 race_id 1 b_car_won 'NO'
car_id 1 race_id 3 b_car_won 'YES'
car_id 1 race_id 4 b_car_won 'YES'
If I query I'd get 2 rows where race_id > 1. And I only need the first one, because 3 is the next race.
I need to fetch in a single row if possible, the result of the 1st race and the 2nd race. How can I do this?
table users have a clustered (PK) index on userid table pictures have a clustered (PK) index on userid
when I do this query:
"select userid from pictures where userid=123"
then It will do a clustered index seek
But If I do any of those:
"select t2.userid from users t1 left join t2 on t1.userid = t2.userid" or "select (select userid from pictures where usedid = t1.userid) from users t1"
It will do a clustered index scan.
How can I force it to seek my index instead of scan?
