Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database)

Hi all,
I'm kinda stuck with the following issue and would apreciate some help with it.
Basically i need to have a user within SQL that has rights to restore databases and is the owner of that database so it can alter the data. The problem i face is that at this moment i see no other way then making that user either member of the server role "sysadmin" or "serveradmin".
Anyway, these roles have to much rights. I tried using the dbcreator role which will make a the needed user db_owner but only when a new database is created, not when a database is restored.
Tried to resolve this with a DDL trigger and then temporarily run as a user with serveradmin rights, however there is no system event for restore database, so that doesn't work either.
Anybody got any suggestions?

I am almost wrapping up a project of my own and I will have the option to restore the database, so dropping the existing one and then running the SQL script to create the database, tables, stored procedures and so on.
My question is, (using .NET 2.0 C#) - what is the best way to resolve the "cannot drop database as it is currently in use" message, or some message of the similar sort?
Even though I specified "USE MASTER" in the commandText string, there will be somewhere, in a situation, where the database will still be in use.
How can I forcefully make it NOT in use, drop it and do other things I like to?
What is the best way?

How can I generate a database from another copying the structure and data?
For example I have a database named Customers, I need to make a copy of Customers named Customers2. Customers2 also will be attached to the same Database Engine Server where Customers is attached.
How I Can do it?

I tryied to make a copy of mdf an ldf files from Windows Explorer and renamed these files but I could not attach to the same Database Engine Server because I got an error.

at work all the databases i use are only accessible via the local network, i am wanting to take a copy of the databases and save them as a database file so i can burn them onto cd and take home with me so i can get some extra work done on the weekend (i'd also like to start doing this so i have backed up copies of the database incase anything happens to it)
i was wondering how i can do this? are there any tutorials on the web that someone can point me to? i have SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express.

Jun 8, 2007I work as a computer repair tech for my company and have been offered the opportunity to do a project. I'm looking to make a database of about 2000 peoples fingerprints (2 copies of each finger). We have Microsoft SQL Server but I have no Idea where to start. The vision is, to have an RFID scanner and have everyone swipe their badge then scan their prints and it automatically associates their prints with the badge number. I found information regarding : "Cannot open user default database. Login failed."on this forum but I think that in my case it's a bit different issue.
I have a website (ASP.NET 2.0) accessing DB, in the mean time Windows Service tries to update some data in the same DB (Service runs as NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SYSTEM). The second connection is rejected: "Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user ....".
Problem occurs only when both: service and website are running at the same time. So service and website are running without problems when they are connecting DB exclusively.
My connection string is:
"Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="|DataDirectory|spider-lab.mdf";Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"

Jul 21, 2015Running a report on sqlserver RS 2008 R2 that uses a data source that looks at a database on a sql express 2012 server.
I can run the report in preview mode from bits on the sql 2008 r2 server.
I have tested the connection of the deployed data source on the sql 2008 R2 reporting services web page and connection has been successful.
I can logon to sql express 2012 using management studio and logon as the user and access the database run stored procedures etc.
windows server 2003, sql server 2008 R2 reporting services server.
windows server 2012 sql express 2012 data source database location.

I'm sorry if this is simple, I'm no DBA but have been tasked with solving this problem...
We have a website that connects via ODBC to SQL Server (2k sp1) and at the moment I am getting back about every other time:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
So this is NOT happening every single time. Now I have seen Microsoft KB - 307864 and I can see that none of the databases are marked as suspect, the database I am trying to connect to does exist and is attached and, I have run the command to switch the database to multi-user mode.
The probable cause of this problem is that a while ago we had a hard-drive failure and I was forced to reattach some old datafiles (mdf,ldf) as the database. This seemed ok and I can view data etc in enterprise manager no problem.
I have checked for orphaned users and the user I am logging in with from the webpage is not listed.
So does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening, and more frustratingly for me, why is it only happening some of the time.

In this query you use 'Products.CategoryID = Categories.CategoryID' to give the relation between the two tables. But if you already added the relationships to your database, this should be known.
My question is, why is it necessary to add the relation in the query when the relationships are already in the database? Is it somehow possible to ommit the relation in the query and make use of the relationships in the database.

Make A Copy Of SQL Server Database
Mar 13, 2007I'm trying to make a copy of our 2005 SQL Server production database (25 meg) so we can install it in a new office being set up in another state. I have right clicked on the database I want to copy, selected Tasks, then option Copy Database... I'm trying to put the copy on the same server, and I am doing this work signed into the Management Studio as "sa" The wizard creates 5 steps, the first 4 run ok, then the 5th step runs for 10 to 20 seconds, then quits. The message says to look in the log on the server for the reason it quit. The only log I can find is the Error Logs at the bottom of the Object Explorer window. I look into the current log, then select the SQL Server log, the current one. There is only one line in here about the copy I just tried, and it only says "Starting up database XXXXXXXX" which is the database I'm trying to create through the copy process. Within Database Mail, SQL Agent, and Windows NT log lines, I can not find any reference to the copy job that just bombed. Needless to say, I'm VERY new to all of this SQL Server admin stuff. If someone could point me in the right direction, it would really help! Thanks!
