I want to run xp_cmdshell but the loging I use doesn't have sysadmin.
I thought I can just click Reset Proxy account button on Job System tab
in SQL Server Agent properties.
It's not really working.
I have SQL 2000 either, so I tried to set proxy account using xp_sqlagent_proxy_account and it works.
Is there anything like xp_sqlagent_proxy_account in SQL 7?
or does anyone know why Reset proxy account doesn't work?
It's SQL 7 on NT 4.
Thanks,

Hi all.
I've previous posted a message with error building the expression of the dtexec.exe string. But now, the problem is other, and I've decided to create other threat.
Here is what I'm doing:
I've a SP that receives every parameter so I can build my dtexec.exe statement to be executed by a variable with something like this exec @rc = master.dbo.xp_cmdshell @CMD
Till now I have no problem executing it, not from a variable, but just with the statement itself, like this:
exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'C:PROGRA~2MICROS~290DTSBINNDTEXEC.EXE /SQ PACKAGE /SET "Package.Variables[PERIOD].Value";20070101'.
But now, I have this SP that builds the string into a variable and then I just want to execute it throught the variable like this: exec @rc = master.dbo.xp_cmdshell @CMD.
When I make a SELECT @CMD just before the exec @rc = master.dbo.xp_cmdshell @CMD, so it prints the builded string, copy it and pasted to exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'copied string' it works fine. But the step of exec @rc = master.dbo.xp_cmdshell @CMD returns the error:
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
Why is this, if I copy the generated string and execute it by the other way it works fine, but executing the generated string throught the variable it gives me that error?

Hi allI have a stored procedure that has the lineEXEC master..xp_cmdshell 'dtsrun /Stestjob1 /N testdts /E'If I run the SP from an access front end as a trusted user or from ascheduled job it runs fine and exectues the dts.If I run the stored procedure using VB6 as a standard connection the dtsjobwont run. I get back Execute permissions denied on xp_cmd.. on databasemasterdb_connect_string = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=False;UserID=test_connect;PWD=pw1test;Initial Catalog=testdb;Data Source=" &database_name....Set cmd = New ADODB.Commandcmd.ActiveConnection = db_connect_stringcmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProccmd.CommandText = "testStoredProcedure"cmd.ExecuteDo I need to give test_connect permisions to run the test stored procedure.I hoped that because the VB called a stored procedure and the connection hadpermissions to execute the SP then it would be the SP that called thexp_command....can anyone tell me the accepted way to do thismany thanksAndy

Hi All,
I am writing a stored procedure which accepts 2 parameters -
Current version(.....for example V53)
UpgradeTo version(.....for example V61)
Using these 2 inputs --I need to create a directory V61 by copying directory V53
for this specific example it would go like this-------------
exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell N'Xcopy c:V53 c:V61 /i'
Now if i want to make a dynamic query for this ...
how do i go about it?
declare @folder1 varchar(255)
declare @folder2 varchar(255)
declare @xcopytext varchar(255)
SET @folder1 = 'V53'
set @folder2 = 'V61'
set @xcopytext = N'Xcopy "c:@folder1" "c:@folder2" /i'
exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell @xcopytext
This gives the error :
File Not Foundfolder1
How do I integrate dynamic query with XCopy functionality ?

I have a stored proc that attempts to execute xp_cmdshell using a login other than 'sa'. The permissions have been given to the login to execute xp_cmdshell and the stored procedure executes perfectly within the query analyzer in EM. However, when attempting to execute the same stored proc in ISQL_W under a login with permissions for everything as dbo (other than Master) I get error 1326 for LogonUser on line 359. This is with the "xp_cmdshell - Use SQLExecutiveCmdExec Account for Non SAs" disabled (as described as a "workaround" on the technet). Microsoft acknowledged this as being a 'bug' to 'fix' and put a 'fix' in Service Pack 5a. The server that is experiencing this problem is running service pack 5. Is there any difference between the service packs and if so, will installing service pack 5a help me? And if not, what can be done to alleviate this problem?

I'm trying to run a .vbs file through the xp_cmdshell sp. It works fine, but if there's an error in the vbscript, the xp_cmdshell will just hang.
When I run the file from the command line, an error dialog box comes up expecting you to click ok. Sql just hangs waiting for this to be resolved.
Anyone have any ideas about how to get around this?
thanks

Hi all,
SQL Server 2000 SP3a, SAN Connection, Standard Edition, 2000 Server edition OS.
I've implemented a log shipping program on one set of sql servers already, the SVR1 set, which are working fine.
I am implementing this on the SVR2 set and I have the wrapperread() problem.
All using SP3a, with MDAC version outlined below. All are reported to be running the SP1 Refresh.
SVR1 - 2.7 SP1 Refresh
SVR1_DR - 2.7 SP1 Refresh
SVR2 - 2.7 SP1 / 2.7 SP1 Refresh
SVR2_DR - 2.7 SP1 / 2.7 SP1 Refresh
When executing the command below in T-SQL I get the error below.
EXEC @sentok = master.dbo.xp_cmdshell @cmd
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionRead (WrapperRead()).

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

some one can tell if i can make a "where" clause inside the BCP , when i say : select * FROM tbl where flag=N , usually the where flag='N' works with the ' ' , but it gives no error when save the store procedure without it ' ' saves nicely the SP,
but
like this it saves well "SELECT * FROM tbl where flag=N" and
when i execute it, give a sql statement error "Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Invalid column name N."
i dont now , any help
PS: perhaps at the end of the BCP ---> -c -T , must have some more or less

The Bulk Insert actually creates a empty error.txt file (0kb) and never preforms the insert, I can not find any examples of anyone using the -ERRORFILE switch on BULK INSERT. Prolly some default security setting to allow file creation/modification I am missing. Anyone help me out? Thanks.

I am performing a Rebiuld of the Master database using the REBUILDM utility on a SQL 2000 SP3 database which is clustered.
The utility starts off correclty, copying the correct MDF and LDF files to the hard drive, and the configuration bar goes across the screen 4 times, before giving the following error "Rebuild master failed with error -1".
I can't find anything on microsoft. I followed KB-298568 to perform this process, but the SQL Service will now not start as it cannot find the master, as it did not get rebuilt properly.
I have included screen shots of the error, in the zipped up word doc.

Hi,
In sys.transmission_queue is showing the transmission_status with error. "The session keys for this conversation could not be created or accessed. The database master key is required for this operation."
But I do have a Master Key in the database, and many External Assemblies depend on that. Is there an option to use the existing master key. How to use the existing key ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi ,
I am trying to move the system database master database and mssqlresource database on SQL Server 2005.
I am going according to the doc's . And I am logging in as single user mode : NET START MSSQLSERVER /f /T3608 and when I try to login into sqlcmd or Management studio , I get the error:
SQL Error 18461 , can not login in more than one administrator server in single user mode.
For the managment studio , I close the object explorer as it is taken as one connection and click the new query with existing connection. But it throws me the same error. When I try to enter into sqlcmd , it throws me the same error.
What can I do here.. IS there anything I am missing.
Thanks

I have a SP SQL server that uses Handshake for the web parts. I am getting an error on SharePoint about 'An error occurred during Service Master Key Decryption' inside the web parts of the page, everything else comes up, from what I have researched MS says go under SQL Configuration Manager and change the service account. Is this the correct course of action for this type of error? I am just having a hard time believing that changing the engines service account will stop this issue, this account is used on several SQL server with no issues.

When running the following statement in SQL 2005, I get the error message "Access is denied":
exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'TYPE \SERVER-BSHAREFILE.TXT'
The following are true about the network:
The SQL Server is installed on SERVER-A.
SERVER-A and SERVER-B are Windows 2003 servers on the same Windows 2003 domain.
The SQL Server and SQL Server Agent services are running under the domain account SQLSERVICE.
SQLSERVICE is a member of the Domain Admins group.
The Domain Admins group is part of the local Administrators group on SERVER-B.
The SQLSERVICE account has also explicitly been given Full Control to the folder referenced by \SERVER-BSHARE
xp_cmdshell use has been enabled on the SQL Server.
If I run the following command in SQL:
exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'whoami'the following is returned: DOMAINSQLSERVICE
If I change the command to access the c: drive instead of a network drive, it executes successfully.
Can anyone shed some light on why I still cannot access any of the files in this folder using xp_cmdshell?

I got a File with sales orders and their details.
Step 1. First I am filtering the Sales Order information and inserting it in my Sales Orders table.
Step 2.Then I am filtering the details from the sales Order and inserting them in the respective table.
My Problem is that the Sales Order File does not contain the Sales Order key (ID), this is generated by the SQL Server. How can get it in order to use it in the second step? I need it because it is a foreign key in the details table.
Any Idea?
