Is there a way I can find out the ip address of the subscriber machine
in a replication? I can't seem to find it in any of the tables under
the distribution database.

Merge Replication Push Using IP Address Fails? WTF?
Jun 7, 2007I have a Merge publication that has multiple subscribers. They are all SQL Express, so it's all Push Subscriptions.
When I try to add a subscriber by it's IP address, the snapshot gets delivered. Schema created, data loaded, but I see the following error in Replication Monitor:
The merge process was unable to deliver the snapshot to the Subscriber. If using Web synchronization, the merge process may have been unable to create or write to the message file. When troubleshooting, restart the synchronization with verbose history logging and specify an output file to which to write. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147201001)
Cannot find the object 'MSmerge_ctsv_E0801EECCA824BB29D48D36D64D2BAEA', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 15151)
When I change the IP address in the script to the name of the machine it works perfectly. The ONLY thing I changed in the script was the IP address to the name.
The reason for this is that I have several client machines that will have connectivity, but NO name resolution back at the Server.

Merge Repliction - Run Stored Procedure When Merge Agent Starts
Jul 23, 2005I have database on SQL Server 2000 set up with a merge publication.This publication is configured with a number of dynamic filters toreduce the amount of data sent to each client. Each client has ananonymous pull subscription. The merge process can be triggered by thewindows sync manager and my application.To improve performance I have created some helper tables to hold themapping between user login and primary keys of selected entities.For the replicated data to be correct the contents of the helper tablesneeds to be up to date.I need to fire off a stored procedure on the publisher beforereplication starts to verify that this data is up to date. I can notsee any documented way of doing this however I have been experimentingwith some unorthodox systems.Firstly has anyone any ideas?I have been considering adding a trigger to some of the tables used bythe Microsoft replication code - yes I know this is very nasty.My problems arise because executing this stored procedure will causesome data to be updated. In updating data we could create a newgeneration in the database. I must therefore run my stored procedurebefore any the Microsoft code makes any generation checks / updates.Anyone done anything similar, Anyone have any better ideas?Any comments would be gratefully received.

I'm using merge replication to maintain a backup copy of my main (publisher)MSDE database. A push subscription periodically (1 per minute) updates the backup DB.
It's intended that if the main db goes down then the backup (subscription) db can be configured as a publisher. This must all be performed via scripting.
The initial configuration of the main publisher and subscription is controlled via scripting, which works fine.
The problems occur when I try to configure the subsciber to become a publisher. A script is executed on the subscriber but fails at the point when it's configuring the publisher detail. The error is something like "unable to configure a publication for a database setup as an anonymous subscription".
I'm guessing that there are subscritpion artifacts added to the database which need to be removed before it can be configured as a new publisher.

Aug 18, 2004I have a question about the sql job history. I have a sql 2000 server that was recording all the job history on my sql jobs just fine until the other day. Today I checked the history and the jobs didnt show the past history anymore. Just today's history. So if the job didnt run today there is no history for that particular job. This isn't true, the job was run a few days ago. I know that no one went in and cleard the history on the jobs. What causes this issue, is there a way to not make this happen in the future? Is there a way I can recover the past history for my jobs.

I'm migrating data from three (third-party, propietary) systems that my company has been using into one common system. The problem with this is that address information in these systems is about as standardized as a bag of rocks. One product simply has 6 address lines, and does not segregate the information (city, state, zip, etc...). Another one has dedicated lines, but users have taken it upon themselves to "invent" ways to enter data (international customers/vendors have data in weird fields, but no rhyme, reason, or cohesion to the madness). The third one is just as bad.
I'm looking for a script-based, SQL implemenation (stored procedures?) for standardizing the addresses into a common format. Does anyone know of anything?

My problem is -
I have a trigger for auditing the changes(insert/update/delete) in the database table.That is done and is working fine. But I need to have the client's IP address from where the changes are done. That I need in T-SQL, that means, not in any web form but in the SQL/T-SQL.
As I have checked many forums, I got that there is extended stored procedure in master database named xp_cmdshell which has xplog70.dll and when we execute this stored procedure with 'ipconfig' we can get the IP Address. But I do not need that in master database. I need that in my database say myDB.
So how to proceed further. I don't know whether to create extended SP which contains DLL or is there any other option.

I have a company table and a address table. I have created a linked table with two foreign keys from the company table and the address table respectively.
This set up allows me to apply more than one address per company which is fine. My problem is that I need a way to prevent a company from entering exactly the same address twice.
In the address table i have the following fields:
AddressKey - PK
CompanyKey - FK
Address 1 - 3
Town
County
Country
PostCode
In the company table I have the following fields.
CompanyKey - PK
FirstName
Secondname
And finally in the link table I have the following:
CompanyKey - FK
AddressKey - FK.
Now, if i entered the following into the address table Assuming that company id of 1 was already entered into the company table.
AddressKey - 1, CompanyKey = 1, Address1 = 11 Address2= Taylor
I need a way of preventing this from happening.
AddressKey - 2, CompanyKey = 1, Address1 = 11 Address2= Taylor
As can be seen the PK - FK values are unique and are correct for referential integrity, but the actual address is the same.
Any help we be mostly appreciated.

Is this the case, or am I doing it wrong? Works fine when I use a local address (eg c:excelfile.xls) when testing locally, but I need to use a URL in production.

Will MS Address SSIS?

But its still pretty much unusable.
I have a simple 5 text files I need to import... no brainer, they are all comma delimeted.
Works great in 2000 DTS. I import the package it blows up, will take me hours to get right "Converting" all the columns. These are simple text fields, ive learned not to even attempt anything else.
Are they basically "done" with SSIS? And just letting us wade through the horror that is SSIS?
I am pondering creating a dw but with all my diverse data sources I couldnt dream of the endless hours upon hours i would have to spend to get it to work with SSIS.
Or maybe someone can explain to me how to easily turn off these stupid trucation, conversion errors it is determined to force upon my dts packages.
Uhg, about to uninstall 2005 and go back to 2000... I can't schedule a "legacy" dts package to run on sql2005 without the nightmare of "dtsrun"...

I'm am looking for a smart solution for keeping history of changes in records in my sql database. Not only history of a record but also which user caused the change and when (I have the username in session).
for now I added 4 fields to each table: "created by","created on","cancelled by",cancelled on", when the user create a record the 2 first fields are filled and and a user delete a record the two last fields are filled and the record is not really deleted but it won't be shown again (I'm using "where createdby is null").
this solution is taking the performance down and it does not solve the editing record tracking. creating new records and cancelling old ones for editing/changing solve that but than I m having problems with the primary key and relations to other tables.
I tried also to use a table that holds records that descirbes every change in records in my tables. it's very hard to search old data that way.
I know that oracle databases has a smart solution for history... please someone advise me..
