Microsoft Visual Studio Cannot Shut Down Because A Modal Dialog Is Active - Any Updates?
Jan 22, 2008I installed the hotfix available at support.microsoft.com/kb/936971 and even rebooted the server, but I am still getting the error. I am working on a Windows 2003 server with SQL Server 2005 (and reporting services). I am not trying to publish any reports using SSRS. I'm just working on designs and saving them. Any help for this at this point?

While tryign to edit the XML for the rdl , i am stuck it will not allow me to edit and i have to kill the devenv process and open vs again.
I looked through some of the threads and tried apply KB 936971 Hot Fix and I am running into the following error.
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
Did any one come across this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Modal Dialog Is Active Error
Mar 5, 2008has anyone encountered the "microsoft visual studio cannot shut down because a modal dialog is active. close the active dialog and try again." error when shutting down.
i have been getting that every once and awhile, and do not see any open dialog windows that need to be closed, and i end up having to end-task on my visual studio session.
does anyone know what is causing this error and how to avoid it?

Mar 17, 2008I have a query that executes just fine except that it won't recognize varchar(255) ( or any other value within the () ) and if I leave it off like this: varchar, then it executes but it leaves that value as 1 and that is just not very useful for my purposes. This also happens with anything else that requires () to add length such as char(), or nvarchar(), etc... Any ideas?

Feb 2, 2006I get this message in a balloon that pops up frequently when I am trying to work in the SSIS designer. For example, I get it when working in a DataFlow task, trying to open editors for the OleDb Source and Destination. Is anyone else getting this? What could be the cause, it seems to get sluggish. Apr 29, 2008How do you define a JDBC datasource in Microsoft Visual Studio? I am using Microsoft Visual Studio to develop reports for SSRS and would like to connect to DB2 via JDBC. Attempting to use the SQL JDBC install as a example, I don't see how to define the SQL JDBC driver to Visual Studio. The SQL JDBC runtime install is very clear, but I don't see how to use this type of datasource in Visual Studio.

Microsoft Visual Studio Error, Keeps Closing My Package
Apr 3, 2008I'm in a SSIS Package Design tab working on a data flow. It was working fine up to now, but all of a sudden I keep getting this error that says, "Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close." And it has that "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send" button at the bottom. This started happening when I tried to add a Data Viewer on a Data Flow Path. And now every time I do this to try to debug my data flow, it gives me this message and closes my project.
However, the package executes without any package errors, but I as I described above, I can't add a Data Viewer because it keeps giving me this message and closing my package.
Running Packages Hangs Microsoft Visual Studio

I have around 160 packages in SSIS. When i run these packages, after some times the errror comes that the system is low on virtual memory and then visual studio freezes. I have a machine with 1G memory. All these packages are not running parallely but they have some dependencies defined on them.
Please let me know if theres some way to configure it correctly,

CLEARLY, the hang comes when one highlites a line and then cursors down to highlight additional lines...I believe this invokes refactoring --- while pre-refactoring install would get a hang occasionally, I now get one frequently. I am uninstalling refactor....

Over the weekend, I loaded the SQL Server SP2 on to my production database after having it on my dev server for two weeks with out any problems.
After I did this, I went to check all my SSIS packages and found them not able to load.
I get this message €œMicrosoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document: The package failed to load due to error 0xC0010014 €œOne or more error occurred. There should be more specific errors preceding this one that explains the details of the errors. This message is used as a return value from functions that encounter errors€?. This occurs when CPackage::LoadFromXML fails.
Now when I look at the errors I see:

When I <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Left-click> to select all of my tasks and then try sliding it up, it creates even more gray space and actually moves it down. If instead when I <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Left-click> and then <Ctrl>+<Arrow-up> it doesn't move it. Is there any easy way to eliminate all this gray space at the top?

When I create a new SSIS Project in Business Intelligence Development Studio,
I get the following message:
"Microsoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document: Object reference is not set to an instance of an object".
Error loading 'package.dtsx'bject reference is not set to an instance of an object
When I try to debug the package, I get the below message:
parameter Component(System.Design) is null.
I've uninstalled and installed SS 2005 several times, yet the problem persists.
Please help.

I have a problem when I try to create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE. When I€™m going to choose the data source, the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition provider doesn€™t appear in the list. I installed the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=%2085E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en. In the additional information says by installing SQLServerCE31-EN.msi installs the provider (System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) in the GAC (global assembly cache) and registers the OLEDB provider (sqlceoledb30.dll). So, I don€™t understand why couldn€™t I create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE?

I had SQl Express version installed previously and everything worked. I could connect to one server running SQL Express and a different server running full up SQL 2005 enterprise version.
I uninstalled All SQL express programs and installed tools from SQL 2005 developer.
I have rebooted, started the program directly (not using a link of any kind) and all attempts fail. After dismissing the error msg the tool opens and I can run queries agains the DB but the database engines and related tables do not show.
My work station is Windows XP with SP2 installed.
I have googled the problem extensively and tried solutions found but none have solved the problem.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Mar 17, 2007I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason

I want to add pictures of products to my shopping site using an SQL database and I’ve been told that SQL Server Management studio is required as it is a graphical tool.
How would I go about obtaining the SQL server management studio. There seems to be different versions of SQL server that it is confusing to know which one to purchase.
Will the SQL server 2005 version that comes with Visual studio standard be sufficient for me now right? I want to create a shopping site with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of products. I want to use an SQL server 2005 database. The database will include ‘dynamically generated’ product images if that is the correct terminology.
My goodness, it seems I still have so much to learn.

Apr 28, 2008I am having issues with sql commands. I have 2 tables joined that shows me set sales and equipment sold to customers. Now my issue is I dont want all the customers showing. Their is a field that is types of sales (aka on rent, reserved). When I do a querie it shows all cust for all types of sales. What would the command and how would it look. I thought about it and i figured I should use a If cust type sale is = to on rent and reserved then show cust name. The next thing is I dont want this to be the primary filter and it should only be a filter for cust name and not affect the results of the info already gathered. any help would be great thanks.
