Using the 'for each' container, I am setting a user variable (type = string) which will hold the source file name and path of files to process and then move to an archive directory.
In the move file task (which is in the for each loop container) I have set the destination to a file connection, and the source to : Issourcepathvariable=True; sourcevariable=user::sourcefilename
BUT
when I run the package, I get the following error : Error at File System Task : "Source Path" is not valid on operation type "move file".
I have tried all sorts of things relating to expressions etc. but cannot get this to work. I am obviousley doing something fundementally wrong...can anyone help me?
I was wondering if there is a way to 'Move File' with the File System Task inside of a For Each Loop container but to dynamically set the Destination path variable.
Currently, this is what I have: FileDestinationPath variable - set to C:TestFiles FileSourcePath variable - set to C:TestFiles FileNameAndLocation variable - set to blank
For Each Loop Container €“ Iterates through a folder C:TestFiles that has .txt files in it with dates in the file name. Ex: Test_09142006.txt. Sets the file path (fully qualified) to the Variable Mapping FileNameAndLocation.
Script Task (within For Each Loop, first step) €“ Sets the FileDestinationPath to the correct dated folder within C:TestFiles. For example, if the text files I want to move are for the 14th of September, it takes FileDestinationPath and appends the date folder to the end of it. The text files have a date in the file name (test_09142006.txt) and I am picking this apart (from FileNameAndLocation in the For Each Loop) to get the folder date. (dts.Variables(€œUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value = dts.Variables(€œUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value & €œ€? Month & €œ_€? & Day & €œ_€? & Year & €œ€?) which gives me €œC:TestFiles 9_14_2006€?.
File System Task (within For Each Loop, second step) €“ This is where the action is supposed to occur. I want it to take the FileDestinationPath and move the FileNameAndLocation file (from the For Loop) into this folder for each run.
Now as for my problem. I want this package to run everyday but it has to set the FileDestinationPath variable dynamically according to that day€™s date. Basically, how do I get this to work since I can€™t hard code the destination path variable from the start? I have the DestinationVariable on the File System Task set to the FileDestinationPath variable, after the script task builds it. However, using FileNameAndLocation as the SourceVariable on my File System Task tells me that the €œVariable €œFileNameAndLocation€? is used as a source or destination and is empty.€?
Let me know if I need to clarify further€¦...I may be missing something very simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am able to run SSIS packages as SQL Server Agent jobs with a Control Flow items "File system task", if I move a file (test.txt) from a drive (c on the server (where SQL Agent jobs run) to a subdirectory on the same drive. But, if I try to move a file on a network drive, the package fail.
I want to move and rename a file and embed the date/time into it, so that each time the package runs a new file is created. For example MyFile_20060712_150000.doc.
Can someone give me a hint how to do this with the File Systen Task SSIS Control Flow Item?
Here is what I am trying to accomplish. I need to move *.pdf files from a local directory into a local staging directory, then from the Staging directory FTP them up to the customers site. Then move the files from the staging directory to an archive directory. I can do this fine as long as all values are static in SSIS, I need help to figure out hoe to do this using variables. The Directories to be used are to be supplied by the DB all that is give in the directory itself all files in the directory need to be moved. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Mike
I am having a problem using the file system task, what I am trying to achieve is to move a file after it has been processed . I am using a For each loop container to process bunch of files but I want to remove the files that have been processed after every loop.To achieve this I added a File System Task after my data flow task and was using the same variable used in the for each loop container as my source variable but the package is not being validated and is gives the following error
"variable used as the source or the destination is empty"
I have created a File System task which is contained in a Foreach Loop Container. I have .bak files that are populating a directory from a maintenance backup plan.
There is a point where I need to delete the .bak file's after I've zipped them all up.
How do I set the SourceVariable to read through the directory and pick up just the .bak file's in the directory to delete.
I attempted to use Move Directory to move the contents of one directory to another.  I encountered the 'different volume' issue that others have experienced.  While this error is frustrating I can work past this particular issue. My more pressing question is why is the move directory command overwriting a destination directory?   When I setup the Move directory file task I provided two vars to hold src and dest location:
dest var:Â estserveroutput src var: devserverdev estfiles Set overwrite destination = TRUE
Why would Move Directory overwrite output folder at destination? Â Shouldn't it only overwrite if the testfiles directory exists at destination? Â This is very frustrating since I cannot find enough information in the official documentation to understand what is happening here. Â
Is it just me or does the documentation for Move directory seem.....incomplete?
I'm trying to use "findstr.exe" to extract some lines of interest from a data file, which I will later load to a table. I'd like to issue this form of a command:
findstr.exe "^SEARCHSTRING" "srcfile" > "dstfile"
I build the arguments using expressions, and both the search string and source file get correctly set. However, the ">" seems to be ignored--I can see the lines spitting out to the temporary window when I run under VS.
QUESTION: how do you redirect the output of a command run under an Execute Process Task?
There are two options to specify the subpackage location (SQL Server or file location). I'd like to know how I can specify a variable name that points to the file location so I avoid hard coding the file location which could change during production installation.
I'm working on an SSIS package that uses a vb.net script to grab some XML from a webservice (I'd explain why I'm not using a web service task here, but I'd just get angry), and I wish to then assign the XML string to a package variable which then gets sent along to a DataFlow Task that contains an XML Source that points at said variable. when I copy the XML string into the variable value in the script, if do a quickwatch on the variable (as in Dts.Variable("MyXML").value) it looks as though the new value has been copied to the variable, but when I step out of that task and look at the package explorer the variable is its original value.
I think the problem is that the dataflow XML source has a lock on the variable and so the script task isn't affecting it. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem, or know a workaround?
I have a SQL Task that updates running totals on a record inserted using a Data Flow Task. The package runs without error, but the actual row does not calculate the running totals. I suspect that the inserted record is not committed until the package completes and the SQL Task is seeing the previous record as the current. Here is the code in the SQL Task:
DECLARE @DV INT; SET @DV = (SELECT MAX(DateValue) FROM tblTG); DECLARE @PV INT; SET @PV = @DV - 1;
I've not been successful in passing a SSIS global variable to a declared parameter, but is it possible to do this:
DECLARE @DV INT; SET @DV = ?; DECLARE @PV INT; SET @PV = @DV - 1;
I have almost 50 references to these parameters in the query so a substitution would be helpful.
Can someone show how to do this?I have a SqlDataSource1, and i have a SELECT * FROM Table1How would i get@ProdName@ProdNumber Into the following local variablesString ProductNameInt ProductNumber I’m using C# and ASP 2.0 VWDThanks for Help1
I have SSIS package where i will be refreshing 5 cubes. Here i am running my package every 15 minutes because i dont know when my ETL tables inserted once my ETL job is done. My question is that i need to move to another task once my first cube get refreshed. i.e when my first cube gets processed for first 15 minutes i will be updating some column as timestamp in ETL table. And then i will be processing remaining four cubes. For the second 15 minutes i should not process the same first cube rather i should process only the four cubes. Because these four cubes data i am getting from different region.
It can be done in SS 2000 under active x script task. But i need to do it in SSIS under Script Task where i will be checking in ETL table whether my TimeStamp column has value or not. Is it possible to do it? Moreover we have option like disconnected edit in DTS 2000. Is there any similar way to acheive?
I need to move specific files from a server to another server on a monthly basis. Â There are hundreds of files that are in the source directory and I need to move approximately 40 of those to the destination server. Â I would like to easily add or delete the file list as needed. Â I have seen where several variables were created for for each file name (and one for the path) and the ForEach Loop would go through them. Â With 40 or more I was thinking that I could make a connection to an Excel spreadsheet or text file with a record for each file name and read in and and move to the next record and make that value become the content of a "FileName" variable. Â Then if I wanted to add another file name I could just add another record to spreadsheet/text file or remove and the package would handle automatically....
I've got two Sql Tasks on my dtsx. The first one loads a value into "Proyecto" user variable and the second one executes a variable named "SegundoProceso" which contains from the beginning:
"select Fecha from LogsCargaExcel where Proyecto = " + @[User::Proyecto] +"" As SqlSourceType propety I have "Variable" and inside ResultSet or Parameter Mapping nodes there is nothing.
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query ""select Fecha from LogsCargaExcel where Proyecto = " + @[User::Proyecto] +""" failed with the following error: "Cannot use empty object or column names. Use a single space if necessary.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I have an Execute SQL Task (OLE DB Connnection Manager) with a SQL script in it. In this script I use several SQL variables (@my_variable). I would like to assign an IS variable ([User::My_Variable]) to one of my SQL variables on this script. Example:
DECLARE @my_variable int
, <several_others>
SET @my_variable = ?
<do_some_stuff>
Of course, I also set up the parameter mapping.
However, it seems this is not possible. Assigning a variable using a ? only seems to work in simple T-SQL statements.
I have several reasons for wanting to do this:
- the script uses several variables, several times. Not all SQL variables are assigned via IS variables.
- For reading and mainenance purposes, I prefer to pass the variable only once. Otherwise every time the script changes u need to keep track of all questionmarks and their order.
- Passing the variable once also makes it easier to design the script outside IS using Management Studio.
- This script only does preparation for the actual ETL, so I prefer to keep it in one task instead of taking it apart to several consecutive Execute SQL Tasks.
- I prefer to use the OLE DB connection manager because it's a de facto standard here.
Could anyone help me out with the following questions:
- Is the above possible?
- If so, how?
- If not, why not?
- If not, what would be the best way around this problem?
I have set up an FTP connection that tests successfully. I can log on to the FTP site with the same credentials and see my root folder, and within that, two more folders. In my FTP task, I want to receive files to my local machine. The problem is that the only remote path available is not at the root level, and the only thing I can see are files from one of the child folders, but not the child folder I want.
Is it possible in the remote path to change folders? The remote path just shows a "/", which I thought would be the root level, but it is somehow linked to a child folder.I've tried various combinations to get to the folder I want, /root folder/child folder, but that gives the error that the folder does not exist.
If I open the FTP Task Editor, click on File Transfer, and click the ellipses for the Remote Path, the Browse For File box opens, with a "/" in the Location section, and a list of files in the child folder that I do not want to be in. If I click the "Up Directory" button, I get the message "Already at top level directory".
how I can get the files from one particular folder on the FTP site?
How do I move a tab serperated file into a table in SQL express using sql express? I need simple fast way to to this.
I can export all my access file into tab or comma files and then build the new tables and import them. I tried upsizing the table in access but sql express will not accept them at all and I cant find a way around it.
In the Control flow tab, I have an Execute SQL Task that outputs full Result set into a variable of an object type. Now how can I write the contents of the Full Result Set into a text file using Script Task. I also want to format the following way while I output into a file:
Column Name 1 : Column Value
Column Name 2: Column Value and so on
I tried writing the contents of the Object Variable into a file, but the file had an output of single word: System.__ComObject.
Code for Writing the Full Result Set into a Text File
Dim RSsqloutput as String = Dts.Variables("objVariable").Value.ToString
Dim strVal as String = "File completed on " & Now() & vbCrLf & "------------------------------------------------------" & vbCrLf
I'm trying to move the files with flat system task. Before I move the files I like to created the new directory, and each directory can hold only 10000 files. Are there any examples or anyone can point me to the right direction?
HI, I need to trigger some packages upon existance of specific files in a particular directory. Sound lkike the file watcher task (from SQLIS) would do the job but I am wondering what is the difference of using this tool instead of a for each loop container. I mean, If a file exists in a directory, the for each loop container will detect it. Since the file watcher is not a service, the package containing it needs to ne scheduled on a regular basis for the filewatcher to detect the file, right? So, a for each loop container would do the job? So, waht wouldbe the advantage of using the file watcher task?
A common issue that I run across with clients is they want only want to process a file if it's finished transmitting to the server. This SQL Server 2005 task reads the properties of a file and writes the values to a series of variables. For example, you can use this task to determine if the file is in use (still be uploaded or written to) and then conditionally run the Data Flow task to load the file if it's not being used. You can also use it to determine when the file was created in order to determine if it must be archived.
I am trying to split the log and data files between two drives on a newSQL-Server 2000 installation. I followed the instructions from the MSarticle 224071 (Moving SQL Server databases to a new location withDetach/Attach).Unfortunalty, when I try to move the Master database, as perinstructions, access to SQL-Sever is lost;the service will never startagain. I've tried this twice after re-installing with the same results.Anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong?Tim
I have a several indexes on a filegroup that I would like to move to a different physical drive. I am aware of the sp_detach...sp_attach routine which allows moving the .mdf and .log files to a different location. How would I go about moving a .ndf file though?
Is there a way to move the primary log file for a database to another drive without doing this with a restore database operation? I have added a second log log file but now I would like to delete the one that was created when the database was created.
Just ran the 6.5 to 7.0 upgrade. It put all tables into a 1 large file. Is there a way to move a single table out of the file and into a second filegroup?
I have a warm standby (secondary server) receiving log shipping files.
The database has 5 files all in the primary filegroup. Two of the files need to be moved from one hard drive to another. Whats the best way / process to accomplish the move and re-establish the log shipping recovery status?
