SQL Server 2008 :: Reporting Services Migration - Subscription Jobs Did Not Get Created

Apr 23, 2013

We are moving to a new data center. We have RS install on appweb server that points to different sql server for Reportserver and Reportservertempdb. So, We created a new virtual appweb server and new physical database sql server 2008 r2 at new DC. I did a fresh install of new reporting services 2008 r2 on appweb server. I backed up and restored Reportserver and reportservertempdb dbs from old 2005 sql server to new 2008 r2 database server.

During new RS configuration, I pointed databases to the new restored databases and restored encryption keys. When launched reporting services URL, it works fine.

I stopped and restarted reporting services after configuration.

However, I am not seeing any single job created on new database server. Old server had 20 jobs.

How do I get these subscriptions back to the new install? I thought this should be created with migration and I do not have to do anything.

One odd thing I had to do during config was that:

In scale-out deployment tab in RS configuration, it was showing both the new and old appweb server name as status joined. I was unable to remove the old server name by clicking 'remove server' there. So, I deleted old server name from keys table in Reportsserver as suggested by some forums to have a clean installation. Does it have anything to do with jobs not created?

What do I need to do now to get subscripts jobs created. Ther eare only 20 jobs here but another RS server has over 800 subscriptions that I can not mess up. So, need to find the issue and correct it before I can move on to the another RS instance.

Moving Jobs To A New Server

Jan 21, 2001

Hi,
I have to move my SQL server data from win95 to NT.
When it comes to databases I would execute attach option.
When it comes to backup devices I think I could simply copy the folder where
backup devices are being located? IS it true??
How about moving jobs; DTS and Database Maintenance Plans???
Any Ideas??
Thanks,

Best Way To Delete Reporting Services Jobs Out Of SQL Agent?

Oct 2, 2007

Our users tend to generate a lot of one-time reports through Reporting Services. The problem is that this seems to generate a lot of Jobs in SQL Agent. So many, in fact, that we'd like to set up a job to delete them periodically (nightly or weekly). I could go in & delete them through SS Management Studio but I'd like to manage it automatically. Let me state up front that I have limited experience with Reporting Services so if my questions seem basic, forgive me.

First, is there a way to avoid creating a SQL Agent job if this is a non-scheduled report? That would be optimal then there would be nothing to clean up.

Barring that, what's the "Best Practice" for doing this automatically? I found the jobs listed in msdb.dbo.sysjobs and other sysjob* tables. Is it reasonable for me to delete from these various tables (sysjobs, sysjobactivity, sysjobhistory, sysjobschedules, sysjobsteps, & sysjobstepslogs) if the job was generated by reporting services (i.e. sysjobs.description containing 'report server process') and no schedule exists (i.e. sysjobactivity.next_scheduled_run_date IS NULL)? What damage could this cause? Is there anything else I need to take into account?

Thanks,
Pat Brickson

Moving Reporting Services

Mar 20, 2008

Hi,

I have some questions about moving the reporting services. I need to move the reporting services from one server to another server in production. some body already installed the reporting services in production server, I moved the reporting services to the production server from the other server using the backup file. after that I tried to initialize using the reporting services configuration tool but every thing in the left side are turned to green except the initialize thing. it is just grey and i am not able to connect to reporting services, when I tried to initialize it is saying the user doesn't have the permission to connect to the reporting services. I posted before I had lot of suggestions but it does'nt work. Thank you very much for your support. Any body have any idea about this issue.

Moving Deployed Reporting Services Reports

Jul 30, 2007

We will making a change to our Reporting Services deployment next month. We will be moving from our SQL 2000 server to a new SQL 2005 server. In addition, we will moving from a Local Catalog Deployment to a Remote Catalog Deployment. My question is this: Is there a way I can prevent my team from having to manually redeploy our reports in the new system? They have not been diligent about saving the Visual Studio solution or project files, so they will have to pull the most up-to-date RDL's off the server and deploy them on the new server one by one.

I suppose I can install SQL 2000 on the new server first, then move the Reporting Services databases to the new server, then upgrade the server to 2005, but installing 2000 and upgrading to 2005 does not sound like a best practice. I would prefer a clean install of 2005. Does anyone know if I can move the deployed reports from one server to another?

Reporting Services :: Moving Images To Another Path

Sep 24, 2015

Using the "move" command it's possible to relocate e.g. datasources without negatively impacting reports that use them. We've got some folders where users have uploaded images for reuse in several reports as external images (2008 R2).

Now I'm trying to consolidate these folders. Yet it seems, moving images will not update the reports that use them as it happens with datasource. Instead, the link to the image breaks.

Is there a way to move the images and telling the reports that reference them that I did so?

SQL Reporting Services 2005 And Sql Server 2000 Database

Nov 6, 2007

Hello,
We want the reporting tool to be integrated with visual studio 2005. From my understanding SQL reporting services 2000 can be integrated only with visual studio 2003 (Please correct me if I am wrong) . Hence we have decided to go for SQL reporting services 2005
I understand that SQL reporting services 2005 can be used with SQL server 2000 database. I want to know if SQL reporting services 2005 and SQL server 2000 database are on a single machine, would a single license for SQL server 2000 suffice or should we have a license for sql server 2005 (since we use SQL reporting services 2005) as well.

Many thanks in advance,
Vaneeth

Moving Local Packages And Jobs From One DB To Another

Feb 3, 2005

Hi boys and girls, I am a total newbie to ms sql. So please be gentle.

I have a ms sql database on one server but I need a duplicate of the ms sql database on another server with all packages and jobs duplicated on the new server.

I was able to export the database over to the new database on the new server no problems there.

The problem is under DTS I have "local packages" that all need to be moved to the new server. I am able to export them into my computer. But on the new server there is no import for the local packages. How do I get these packages onto the new server into my server's ms sql???

Also under the management and sql agent manager, there are jobs that are on the old db, that I need to go to the new server in ms sql.

Any help at all would be appreciated!!!
Thanks!!!

Execute Access Database As SQL Server Jobs

Nov 21, 2006

Hi While we are migrating Access Database to SQL Server, we would like to keep the Access Database running on schedule in steps until we migrate everything in SQL Server. I have created a SQL Server Job under “Operating System Command (CmdExec) and in command, pointed where the Access Database is located.
I have created this job as an Admin, so admin has full rights. But when I run this job it does not execute Access Database and gives an error. Following (under dotted line) is the error from Event Log.…………………………………………………..Event Type: WarningEvent Source: SQLSERVERAGENTEvent Category: Job Engine Event ID: 208Date:  11/21/2006Time:  9:15:53 AMUser:  N/AComputer: SqlServer01Description:SQL Server Scheduled Job 'Test' (0x86BC5A6881DF1E48BF270E6513B2A0DD) - Status: Failed - Invoked on: 2006-11-21 09:15:51 - Message: The job failed.  The Job was invoked by User admin.  The last step to run was step 1 (test).
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.……………………………………………………
I had replaced access database with some exe file then ran the job. Job ran fine. Why SQL Server job is not able to execute Access Database?
Note: SQL Server has Access Database installed.
Please let me know. I know this is not a very common situation but this is also an option available to utilize.

Moving A Database To A New Server

Jul 15, 1998

Hi,
I have a database that resides on a server that`s become too old. It spans
2 devices that sit on 2 different drive letters - D: and E:.
I bought a new server, installed and configured NT4.0 and SQL6.5.
Initially I restored the database to the new server from a dump .It worked
fine, however all the login information was lost. Then I tried partitioning
the new server the same way as the old one and copying all the DAT files
over. Thus I was hoping to retain the information contained in the MASTER.DAT,
drop the database, repartition to create 1 physical drivewith 1 database device,
and restore from a dump to it.
After copying the DATs, though, SQL Server would not start.
Help Please!

Moving A Database From Old To New Server?

Jun 28, 2004

Hi all. I know that since you know nothing about my database it will
be a stretch to answer this - but does anyone have a boiler plate
checklist for moving a database, dts packages, agent jobs, etc...from
one server to another? Maybe something that just says I should at
least do x,y,z.

Also if anyone out there has any hard won experience/advice about
gotchas when doing this I would love to hear it. We have outgrown a
server and are installing a new one this week that we need to move
over to.

Thanks!

Moving Database To New Server

Dec 20, 2005

i need help moving a database to a new server.

I have an existing database on a Windows XP Pro box running MS SQL Server Desktop Engine 8.00.

I want to move this database to another machine running Windows Server 2003 Small Business Server w/full SQL Server (new edition).

I can see the database, and the directory structures are almost identical on both machines. But when I simply copy the data over nothing works. Obviously to me I must somehow back up the original database and restore it somehow on the new machine.

Any tips on where I begin? I have done searches in the Microsoft Knowledgebase for articles on how to backup and restore from one type SQL to another with frustrating results. No clear directions.

Thanks!

Migrate From 32bit 2000 Reporting Services To 2005 64bit Reporting Services

Mar 22, 2008

Hello,

I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)

at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)

It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?

Any help is appreciated

Reporting Services - Local Database

Apr 11, 2008

Hello Everyone. I recently installed MS Sql Server 2005 and Reporting services on a dedicated server. My report server database and my content databases (report content) are all mounted on a named instance of SQL (on the local machine). When I attempt to run a report via the web based report manager I get the following error message.

An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'Production'.
The feature: "The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.

The data source production has a connection string with the Data Source element set to the named instance of SQL running on the local machine. The report manager web application is also running on the same machine.

All databases are on the local machine (SERVER217MSSQL2K5WG). The version of reporting services installed is what shipped with the Workgroup edition of SQL Server 2005. Does anyone know what could be causing this error? I can assure you all of the data is on the local machine.

Thanks in advance,
Beau
