Sorry about my English, it is not my natural language and thanks for your help. I have installed the Personal Site Starter Kit, everything work perfect except register users. When a new user try to register as a new user he receives an error, caused because the database is "read-only". In IIS the database has read and writing permissions and the directories where the aplication is. How can I change the database permissions?

Using ASP.net 2.0 or Visual Web Developer Edition 2005 I could not find a single example with Datagrid Control or Form View Control, to achieve the basic functionality ofAdd/Edit/Delete Records with Remote SQL Server 2000 Database. When I searched for these examples I found many videos and examples using local database and in learning path of Visual web express editions, very goodexamples and videos using local SQL Server 2005 database, BUT not with the remote database. My question Is it possible to get the basic functionality of Add/Edit/Delete Records with Remote SQL Server 2000 Database using ASP.Net 2.0 Datagrid and FormView controls? This question looks like, a lazy developer question!! but, in my learning path I found GREAT videos in Visual Studio Web Developer Express edition and learned simple way of drag and drop the controls assign create local database and their connections, and few clicks to add/edit/delete records using datagrid and formview controls. In real life those are not much useful because many of web interfaces are with sql server 2000 and we need to convert them into ASP.Net. Similarly I wanted to drag and drop couple of controls and less coding etc. and accomplish basic functionality of add/edit/delete records using remote database sql server 2000. If possible please help me out. Wondering is it possible to get the functionality of add/edit/delete records using datagrid/formview with remote sql server 2000, the way they explained in bigginers learning videos ... I am referring to (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express/aa700802.aspx) If possible and you think it is possible please guide me to that URL where I can learn the great functionalty n implement..!!
I went to look at the connection string previously entered for a dataset created in a new report, and am not seeing anything intuitive for bringing up the associated datasource dialog box that was used to enter name, type and connection string. I'm also noticing nothing intuitive for deleting an existing dataset. How do you do these two very simple things in an existing project? I dont see the dataset in solution explorer, I see it only in the text box on the data tab and in a limited kind of way on the dataset view where the columns show and maint is allowed mostly on the columns only. I tried hilighting the dataset here and hitting the delete key to no avail.
I have SQL 2000 server machine on our network. I can connect to our existing SQL database and display data from tables etc, but when I try and edit the data using the detailsView it wont let me. No error msg, it just does not update the field. However if I create a new record using the detailsView, I can edit it. Its just older records that were created previously that it wont let me edit. Is this a bug?, A compatibility issue?, Any Ideas? O_F
I just upgraded our existing 6.5 installation with the new SQL server 7.0. I can't get any of the existing stored procedures which I imported from 6.5 into 7.0 to allow me to edit them. I do all of my design from Visual InterDev and the SQL Server 6.5 version would allow me to create and edit stored procedures. It would also allow me to create/design new tables.
With SQL Server 7.0 I do not have an option to edit or create any of these items. I have created a new login, assigned it a password, given it admin rights/roles and I am still unable to remotely create these items. What am I doing wrong?
I am using a business management software application that uses SQL Server 2012 for data storage. The application is one that stores data about the customer, and then displays as requested. On certain customers, once saved, no save of future edits will work. Once the save button is clicked, there is a momentary hula hoop, followed by nothing. You have to cancel to get out, and then going back you see that the data was not saved. This only happens on certain customers (however, once the problem develops for a certain customer, it is consistent) and newly created customers seem to work fine. I am thinking that the software app is fine since the save process would be the same each time the button was clicked, so I am thinking its a database problem.
I have a many to many relationship I can design the table 2 ways:1) Category table (cat_id, cat_name, active) - cat_id as PKCategoryReq (cat_id, req_name) - cat_id & req_name as PK2)CategoryReq (req_name, cat_name) - req_name & cat_name as PKIf I design 1st way. Then when they want to add and delete from the CategoryRequest table, they would have to add to the category table first. Then maybe build a list of checkboxes to select from. The one's they check insert into the CategoryRequest table.Drawback of this is that they can't edit the list on the fly. Since it may be used by other request (since cat_id CategoryReq is fk into Category table)If I design it the 2nd way. Then they can edit, delete, add on the fly. But there won't be a master category list.Which way is better?
I have a SQLDataSource that gets it's data from a SQL 2000 database table. I have configured it to generate the Update/Delete commands, which look correct. I then have a GridView that is using this SqlDataSource to show the data with "Edit" & "Delete" buttons (the default ones from the GridView). My problem is that while all commands (Edit, Delete) work on my local server, they do NOT work on my live server. In my connection string, I specifiy a username and password like this:
<add name="Project_Management.My.MySettings.WebReportsConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=Karlweb;Initial Catalog=WebReport;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=VbUser;Password=VbUser" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> I have access to change the permissions on my production server, so I gave this "VbUser" every allow permission I could find and still I could not Edit or Delete records. What I mean by they "do not work" is that when I click the Edit button, the GridView switches to edit mode, but when I click Update, the changes are not written. When I click the Delete button, the page just refreshes and the record is not deleted. As this is working on my local server, I think the problem lies in some permission or configuration of the server. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I could look or what to change? Thank you!
I would like to restore database using RESTORE DATABASE ... REPLACE command. If database exists already and has any open connections this command will fail. I would like to close all existing connections to specific database before running RESTORE DATABASE ... REPLACE command. I can do closing from Management Studio using checkbox "Close Existing Connection" when deleting database. Actually I need to do the same but from script.
Folks, i have rebuilt my old server machine and i've restored the MSDB over the new machine. Now when i try to edit or delete any of the jobs that come from the RESTORE; i get the following error message:

If I use the DTSMigrationWizard.exe, to migrate my existing DTS packages from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 will it delete the DTS packages on the 2000 server?
On this one server I have 65 DTS packages and I want to migrate them all at once if possible but still keep the DTS packages on the 2000 server.
I have created a database with several tables. I want to create a database diagram to show the relationshipbetween the tables. Below are the steps from the SQL Server 2005 documentation on how to create a database diagram. The problem is that when I right click on the Database Diagrams folder I am only given two options. They are:"Working with SQL Server diagrams" and "Refresh"There is no menu choice to create a new database diagram. Can anyone tell me what the problem here is?
To create a new database diagramIn Object Explorer, right-click the Database Diagrams folder or any diagram in that folder. Choose New Database Diagram on the shortcut menu. The Add Table dialog box appears. Select the required tables in the Tables list and click Add. The tables are displayed graphically in the new database diagram.
I have written a merge Statement where i am facing trouble to delete the data basing on Where Clause Condition.
1) Case 1 : For example i have inserted Data from Source to Target based on Date Key Condition.Take an Instance 10 Records Inserted. 2) Case 2 : For example some changes in the records and it has been updated through the Merge Statement . 3) Case 3 : For the Same Date key based on Conditions now three records has came and need to be inserted and rest should be deleted for that Date Key.
How i need to proceed on this before 10 records are not getting deleted and new records adding for that one
My Example Code :
MERGE INTO TargetTable AS Target USING ( SELECT DISTINCT Col1, Col2 FROM Table1 AS cga ) ON dad.AnchorDate = CASE
How can I delete duplicate entries from tables in my database using Query Analyzer, as there are many duplicate entries in my tables, I want to delete them.
I am working through a book about setting up a database, though i'm doing it slightly differently, using a sql server database on a remote server rather than the local sql server express database shipped with visual studio. everything has been going fine until i've reached a part where they want to add a database diagram to the existing database. they talk about right clicking the database diagram node, and selecting add, but for some reason there is no database diagram node, so i can't do it this way. the book also says using the data>add new>diagram from the menu, but when i do this i either have no diagram option (when i have no table opened) or else the diagram option is greyed out and unselectable (when i have a table opened). any ideas on how i can add a database diagram? dc
How do u print the database diagram...basically is there any process that can generate the database diagram from the database which is already existing with the referential integrity...
Can anyone tell me about the storage of Database Diagrams. I want to know where these diagrams are stored in SQL Server? If it is in System table, which table and how to copy these diagrams into another database?

I have taken database diagram from my Sql Server 2005. I copied this on word, but size it is showing is very small. I used all the zoom options provided in Sql Server, but it is not clear. Please guide me how to do this
i am trying to create a database diagram but this error appears. what does this mean and what should i do? tnx
This database does not have a valid dbo user or you do not have permissions to impersonate the dbo user, so database diagramming is not available. Ensure the dbo account is valid and ensure that you have impersonate permission on the dbo account.
I am a beginner in learning SQLServer 7.And I learn it by using its own help file. The only problem troubles me is that after I do some options in database diagram, there's nothing happen. And then no matter what I do,database diagram panel is always blank.
What is the advantages/disadvantages of using Database Diagram and link all the tables in MS SQL Server Management Studio versus letting the application check and link the different tables at run time? Currently, I do not have all my tables linked in a Database Diagram. I do everything at run time in my application code behind. What are the best practices? Which is easier or perhaps more secure?

All -- Please help. I am having trouble printing a database diagram. When I do, I get junk artifacts on the page on each table, shaded areas that obscure part of the picture. I get these results when I print with Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and when I print to my HP4200N laser printer. Is there a required driver or something? Please advise. (I apologize but this is the only good place I could find for this post-- if you have any hints for other locations then please post links.) Thank you. -- Mark Kamoski
