Taking Data From A Different Databases/Data Warehouses Using A Sequel Server 2005 Based Database.

Apr 1, 2008

I'm in the middle of developing a Database for a hospital that measures its audits, inhouse operations, and finance. What we currently have and do everyday is collect data from a large database that is real time with patient data, progess, infomation, etc and dump it into a data warehouse that runs on TSI/Eclipsys. We run reports using a number of programs and dump it into Excel sheets that have charts, reports, etc. This Database for which I'm developing won't come soley from the TSI/Eclypsys source, but this is the only source thats updated regularly. I don't want to have in sync with TSI/Eclipysys in fear that every day when it updates data may be lost, not read, or worse won't be up date if there is a problem. My question is is it possible to run a query from Sequel Server 2005 that will take that data upon request using the reporing features on Sequel Server 2005. i.e. What if I need to run a report on measure B in department 12 from Jan 1-Feb 1, instead of being in sync, can I just write queries to take that information rather than double the data and take up twice the space and trouble. FYI, these datatypes rarely change in the TSI/Eclipsys data warehouse. This sure was long question and didn't intended it to be . Thanks for listening and hope to hear back.

Storing Time-series Data In SQL Server 2005

May 1, 2007

Hi all,

I'm wondering what is the best way to store time-series data in an SQL database?? I've done a bit of investigating on the rrdtool (round robin database tool) that is used in a lot of nix based solutions for monitoring network equipment. I have a need to collect performance data from servers and routers and then produces some nice graphs from that data. I'm just not sure who i should store that data without the database growing to some huge size.

Any suggestions?

Sending Uploaded Image To Data Access Class When Storing Image In SQL Server 2005

Apr 20, 2007

I am using the 3-tiered architecture design (presentation, business laws, and data acess layers). I am stuck on how to send the image the user selects in the upload file control to the BLL and then to the DAL because the DAL does all the inserts into the database. I would like to be able to check the file type in the BLL to make sure the file being uploaded is indeed a picture. Is there a way I can send the location of the file to the BLL, check the filetype, then upload the file and have the DAL insert the image into the database? I have seen examples where people use streams to upload the file directly from their presentation layer, but I would like to keep everything seperated in the three classes if possible. I also wasn't sure what variable type the image would be in the function in the BLL that receive the image from the PL. If there are any examples or tips anyone can give me that would be appreciated.

Storing Bulk Data From Dataset To Sql Mobile 2005 Using C#

Apr 3, 2006

hi,

I have developed an application in c#.net 2.0 for Pocket PC. And even i developed a webservice to communicate between sql server 2005 and sql mobile 2005. Webservice returns the data in a dataset format from sql server 2005, but while inserting the data row by row from dataset, it is taking a huge amount of time. I would like to know, is there any way where i can copy the bulk data from dataset into the sql mobile 2005 using c#.And how this can be achieved.

SQL Server 2008 :: Displaying Transaction Time Punch Data In A Time Card Form?

I have a table called employee_punch_record that we use to store employee time clock punches.

The columns are:

employeeid,
punch_timestamp,
punch_type (In / Out),
closed (bit used as status for open or closed pay periods),
ident

Here are some examples of a record:

We are using SQL Server 2008 as our database and use Access as a GUI. I am looking to create a form in Access where employees can access their time card and request changes from management. I want to use the format from the attached screen shot for the form. I pretty much know how to do it all, the only point of complication is trying to figure out the easiest way to get the transaction punch record data on employee_punch_record into a format where I can easily populate the form in the horizontal format you see in the screen shot.

I am not super strong in SQL, but figure I can do it using a formatting table of some sort. quick and easy way to move transaction records into a more horizontally oriented record?

Which Is Better? Storing Data In The Database OR Storing It In The File System

Dec 29, 2006

Hello there,I just want to ask if storing data in dbase is much better than storing it in the file system? Because for one, i am currenlty developing my thesis which uploads a blob.doc file to a web server (currently i'm using the localhost of ASP.NET) then retrieves it from the local hostAlso i want to know if im right at this, the localhost of ASP.NET is the same as the one of a natural web server on the net? Because i'm just thinking of uploading and downloading the files from a web server. Although our thesis defense didn't require us to really upload it on the net, we were advised to use a localhost on our PC's. I'll be just using my local server Is it ok to just use a web server for storing files than a database?

SQL Server 2014 :: Move Data From Database Taking Into Account Identity Keys

Oct 9, 2013

I'm trying to move specific data from three linked tables on a source database to three tables on a destination database by generating dynamic SQL INSERT scripts but am getting stuck on the last set of INSERT statements. I don't think I can use SSIS because the source autonumber fields may already exist on the destination side but I could be wrong.

For simplicity, Table 1 (T1) has one autonumber key of PK1 as well as other fields (A1, B1, etc.).

Table 2 (T2) has one autonumber key of PK2 and a foreign key (FK1) that links back to PK1 as well as other fields (A2, B2, etc.).

Table 3 (T3) has one autonumber key of PK3 and a foreign key (FK2) that links back to PK2 as well as other fields (A3, B3, etc.).

Like this:
T1: PK1, A1, B1, etc.
T2: PK2, FK1, A2, B2, etc.
T3: PK3, FK2, A3, B3, etc.

So, I'm able to query the source database T1 to generate my dynamic SQL INSERT statements that will be run on the destination side. I'm also able to generate my dynamic SQL statements to insert into T2 but when I get to T3 I currently am stuck figuring out how to insert because the destination side is unable to match it's FK2 to the just inserted PK2. It throws the below error.

Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.

Storing ASP.NET 2.0 Profiles In SQL Server 2005

Oct 17, 2007

Hi Everyone,
I have an e-commerce site that uses Profiles in ASP.NET 2.0 to store items in a shopping cart.  The problem is that we are now using LDAP authentication, so we are getting rid of the ASPNETDB membership database that stores the profile values.  How can get the shopping cart functionalty to work with SQL Server 2005?  How can I store the profile object in a SQL Server instead of the ASP.NET memberships database?
Here is the profile field:
  <profile enabled="true">      <properties>        <add name="Cart" serializeAs="Binary" type="Commerce.ShoppingCart" allowAnonymous="true"/>      </properties>    </profile>

Thank you in Advance

Storing Images In Sql Server 2005

Jun 5, 2006

Hi There

I have not had much luck finding info in BOL.

I have a directory with many images, i need to load these images into sql server. We want to staore them in the database instead of the file server.

What is the best way to do this? TSQL (i am hoping), .NET code or maybe even SSIS ?

I have been reading what i can find in BOL basically all i know so far is that image data type will be no more in the future and i should use a varbinary(max) data type.
Basically i need a good link or something that can demonstrate how one can go about loading images into Sql Server 2005.

Storing Large Files In The SQL Server 2005

Feb 9, 2006

I have a table that I'm inserting a file into and using the Image data type to store the binary object.  Now the code below works fine for files around 1.5 MB, but anything larger and it's like the code won't even execute and I get a Page Not found error.
I'm in the process of running some traces to find out what's going on in the backend, but I'm assuming there's something amiss with my code.  The Image data type should handle files that size with no problem but for some reason it isn't.
Does anyone see anything wrong?

Storing IEEE 754 Floats In SQL Server 2005 (NaN, +/- Infinity)

Nov 17, 2006

Hi all,

Is there a way to get SQL Server 2005 to store NaN and Positive and Negative infinity values for double precision floats? It used to work fine under SQL 2000 and works great under MS Access, but we are updating our scientific application, and really need to be able to store this information efficiently under SQL Server 2005. We really want to dump Access because of database storage limitations.

It really amazes me that there is not more support for this as the limitation really makes it hard to store a lot of our simulation data. I guess SQL Server is more geared for financial data then scientific data. I know that Oracle supports this but we rather stick with SQL Server if we can.

We really want to avoid having to have an extra column to store this, that would be disastrous. NaN could be stored as null values. And, no, we cannot map +/- Infinity to Min and Max double values. We definitely need the distinction there.

Another post I read talked about custom user types€¦ but I€™m not sure how well that will work with our analysts pulling the data into other tools, like Excel.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. It just boggles the mind that SQL Server does not seem to handle true IEEE 754 doubles. How is Microsoft going to deal with C# 3.0 and DLinq support? The issue must show up there.

Anyway,

Thanks much.
James.

Pipeline Error-excel Source-data Reader Does Not Read In Meta Data

Apr 16, 2008

Hi all, i got this error:

[DTS.Pipeline] Error: "component "Excel Source" (1)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA".

and also this:

[Excel Source [1]] Warning: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The column "Fiscal Week" needs to be updated in the external metadata column collection. The column "Fiscal Year" needs to be updated in the external metadata column collection. The column "1st level" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection. The column "2nd level" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection. The column "3rd level" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection. The "external metadata column "1st Level" (16745)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection. The "external metadata column "3rd Level" (16609)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection. The "external metadata column "2nd Level" (16272)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection.

I tried going data flow->excel connection->advanced editor for excel source-> input and output properties and tried to refresh the columns affected.
It seems that somehow the 3 columns are not read in from the source file?
ans alslo fiscal year, fiscal week is not set up up properly in my data destination?
anyone faced such errors before?

Thanks

Truncation Of String Data With Data Reader Source Connecting To ODBC DSN

Mar 18, 2007

A data reader is using a connection manager to connect to an ODBC System DSN . A query in the SqlCommand property is provided. Data is being truncated in the only string column . The data type in data reader output-->external columns shows as Unicode string [DT_WSTR] Length 7.

The truncated output in a text file is the first 3 characters from left to right . Changing the column order has no effect.

A linked server was created in SQL Server Management Studio to test the ODBC System DSN using the following:

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@server = 'server_name',
@srvproduct = '',
@provider = 'MSDASQL',
@datasrc = 'odbc_dsn_name'

Data returned using "OPENQUERY" does not truncate the string column indicating that the ODBC Driver returns data as expected with sql 2005, but not with the Data Reader.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Error While Storing A Zip File With Size More Than 1MB In MS SQL Server 2005 Express

Aug 9, 2007

I want to store a Zip file as a BLOB, but I get an error:
"File 'C:<path of mdf file> ' appears to have been truncated by the operating system. Expected size is 2560KB but actual size is 1536KB "
whenever the BLOB exceeds 1MB.

Any suggestions? How can I store larger .ZIP files to the Database?
I am using MS SQL 2005 Express and the data type that I gave for the column to store Blob is "varbinary(MAX)".

I am inserting byte array in to this field.
It works fine for a zip file less than 1MB but as soon as the zipped file size increases beyond 1MB, lots of error pop-up and then the database is not readable. Its says that, the data in the data base may have been corrupted...

SQL Server 2008 :: Storing Many Queries To Export Data?

Oct 7, 2015

One of my current responsibilities is to export data to 3rd party vendors. Each export can contain many csv files. The exports are all different in terms of what data is being sent.

The way I have it currently setup is each file that needs to be created is a view. An SSIS package gets the data from the view, writes to CSV, and then sftp to 3rd party vendor. This seemed like a good idea at first because the columns are static but the calculations might change. So all I have to do is ALTER VIEW and I don't have to change anything in the package.

Is there a better way of doing this? I was curious to see what other people are doing. What makes it challenging is that all the exports are so different. If they were similar I could have created generic views that cover all the exports instead of each export having its own view. Eventually I'm going to have 100's of views.

Inconsistent Result Using Data Reader Source To Get Data From DB2

Apr 22, 2008

I am having a very wierd issue regarding a DB2 sql query. I need to get data from Db2 and insert into our sql server database. Using data flow task, to get data I am using the data reader source. COnnection is ado.netodbc connection.
THis sql query also has some comments in it.

The first wierd thing is...

1. On Development server, when I run this query manually, meaning using toad, winsql (connection to the db2 database), the query runs fine. Brings back approx 667 rows which is correct. ON the same server when I try to run this query, via a SSIS pkg, data flow task, using data reader source, gives me error on those comments that exist in that query. But if I run the same SSIS pkg on another server (Integration server). It runs fine. The same pkg also runs fine if I run it from my machine. SO What is different on my Dev server compared to the Integration server.

2. Say if I take those comments out from the sql query, then try to run the ssis pkg. The query is stuck at the first record and goes in an infinite loop mode. though my query is not a procedure, it is just a sql statement. But this ssis pkg with the query runs absolutly fine on the other server. I aslo tried using the other types of connection and ole db source but still the same problem on the Dev server.

What do I need to look for that is so different on the dev server compare to the INT server. I also checked the version on both these server for Visual Studio 2005(by going to About Microsoft Visual Studio), it is the same.

This is what I have on both the servers....
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 9.00.3042.00

Please HELP !!!!

Thank you.

Data Reader Source In Data Flow Problem

Jul 18, 2006

hi all,

i have a package in ssis that needs to deliver data from outside servers with odbc connection. i have desined the package with dataflow object that includes inside a datareader source. the data reader source connect via ado.net odbc connection to the ouside servers and makes a query like: select * from x where y=? and then i pass the data to my sql server. my question is like the following:

how do i config the datasource reader or the dataflow so it will recognize an input value to my above query? i.e for example:

select * from x where y=5 (5 is a global variable that i have inside the package). i did not see anywhere where can i do it.
