Need To Write From Asp.net To XML Type In SQL Server 2005
Nov 3, 2007
Hello, I have worked with SQL Server 2000 but now we have a requirement where I need to write values from an asp.net form into an XML type in SQL Server 2005.
I have never used XML as a type in SQL Server 2005. How do we write xml into xml type.
For example the structure of XML is something like:
<application>
<applicationID = "value"></applicationID>
<customerName="value></customerName>
</application>
I have to write this kind of XML into the XML type and later retrieve these XML values and populate the form again.
Kindly suggest. Thanks a lot.

Thanks!
Here is my Table definition:
Column Name

My XML that is stored in the XML field:

Here is my VB code:
Dim myconnection As SqlConnection
Dim mycommand As SqlCommand

myconnection.ConnectionString = _
ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("myxmlConnectionString2").ConnectionString
Dim strSQL As String = "SELECT [xml] FROM myxml WHERE id = 76"
' create SQL command instance
mycommand = New SqlCommand(strSQL, myconnection)
Try
' open database connection
myconnection.Open()
'execute T-SQL command
Dim dr = mycommand.ExecuteReader()
While dr.read()
Response.Write("<p>" & dr(0).ToString() & "</p>")
End While
Response.Write("GOT IT")
Catch ex As Exception
Response.Write(ex.Message)

Dear friends,
A simple question to you... witch of this dataflow destination is better for performance to write data in a SQL Server 2005:
1. SQL Server Destination?
2. OLEDB Destination?
3. Other?
Thanks!

Hi,I'm accessing a pair of databases with ASP/ADO,and using stored procedures on the first access.The first access works OK - everything gets writtento where it's supposed to be.On attempting to write to a pair of database tablesin the second database (second access attempt),the server crashes, as does the app, and I get the following error:--------------------------------------------------------------------Server Error in '/Webfolder01' Application.Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. I'm contemplating a sql server archive strategy that rolls really old data off any sort of dbms and onto low cost media like dvds in a non relational archive format. I dont want to ever worry about these archives spanning different versions of sql when i go to retrieve a range of data that happens to span sql versions (eg one disc was sourced from 2005 another by 2008 but my report needs a union of both).
So I'm thinking about neutral/efficient formats for these archives and a live homegrown catalog that can determine exactly what disc(s) need to be mounted based on passed from and to date parameters...all so that the data that might span discs (and versions and maybe even schemas) can be merged and loaded into my sql version d'jour's "throw away" archive database for a one time report or other unplanned activity.
I remember raw data types being very convenient as an ETL format for our customers who have ssis, but wouldn't want our sqlexpress customers to be left without the archiving capability. Do the "things" that read and write raw data files really originate in some special T-SQL command that all sql editions can use, or is it strictly an ssis thing?

Recently I began to use SQL 2005. But yesterday I found a puzzle about data type.
I use this script to create a table:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[InvoiceMaster](
......
[InvoiceMemo] [varchar](max) NULL,
......
)
But when I run this cmd : exec sp_columns InvoiceMaster. I find the type_name of this column changed to "text".
Can anybody tell me why?
Thanks in advance!

I was migrating from Oracle to SQL Server 2005 using SSMA (SQL Server Migration Assistant) but i`ve found an issue, i canīt find how to fix it. In my stored procedure in PL/SQL exists this lines:
TYPE T_ARRAY_COL IS VARRAY (1000 ) OF VARCHAR2 (50);
A_COLUMNS T_ARRAY_COL := T_ARRAY_COL();

Hi
I have recently upgraded from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 and I'm getting the following problem, can you suggest me if this is a issue with SQL 2005 or suggest me an asnwer for this.
Below is the exception from my log file
The cursor type/concurrency combination is not supported.
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The cursor type/concurrency combination is not supported.
at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException.makeFromDriverError(Unknown Source)
at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerStatement.<init>(Unknown Source)
at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerPreparedStatement.<init>(Unknown Source)
at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection.prepareStatement(Unknown Source)
The following is the piece of code where the problem I'm assuming is happening, how can I correct it.
varStmt1 = varConnection.prepareStatement(varCitationSQL.toString(),ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,
ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
Have tried using both JDC v1.1 and 1.2 but of no use.

I am quite curious about SQL Server 2005 Express, since I am conducting an XQuery implementation survey for my thesis study.
Yet I still got some questions and may need your help:
1. Does SQL Server 2005 Express support XQuery static type analysis (from http://www.w3.org/TR/xquery-semantics/)?
2. If so, since the W3C standard is still changing, how do you keep up
with the change efficiently?
Your help will be appreciated.
Happy New Year and Thank you,

Hi,
I am using VS2005 C# + sql server 2005 Express edition.
I need to using a database that uses my own defined data types to define its tables columns.
I already have designed a Database projact and create the new UDT as follows:
Create a new Database project in the Visual C# language nodes.
Add a reference to the SQL Server 2005 database that will contain the UDT.
Add a User-Defined Type class.
Write code to implement the UDT.
Select Deploy from the Build menu.
Now I need to ask some quistions:
1- When I try to add a new query to a table that contains my new data type in its columns,if I try to exexute the query the next message appears:
'Execution of user code in the .Net framework is disabled. Enable "clr enabled" configuration option'.
How can I doing that??
2- I need to use that database - which has the new data type - in a traditional ' Visual C# Windows Application' instead of 'Database', but:
when I try to add a new Data Source that contains the tables that have the new data types in its definitions, the next message appears:
'<AyaDatabase.dbo.MyNewUDTTable>
User-defined types(UDTs)are not supported in the Dataset Designer.'
So, how can I resolve that problem??
please help me.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Aya.

Hello All
Just wondered if someone could help me with a bit of T-SQL, i have a application in ASP.NET/VB that allows the user to update a message board by clicking a button "update" this in turn triggers my Stored Procedure for inserting this data into a table, which works great.
It inserts the data into its respective fields and also takes The Title, Line 1, Line 2 and so on and creates a XML file (Using FOR XML) which is stored in the same Table under a column call XML_Data. Which again works great.
My problem now is how do i output this XML_Data to an actual XML file that is on my local machine, i.e. It be created in say C:Inetpubwwwrootxmlfiles("xml file name inserted here from another column that holds xml file name").xml
Any help on this would be greatfully apreciated
Thanks In Advance

Hi,
I tried to backup the master key by the following syntax :
OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
BACKUP MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'c: empmaster' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
but it failed and i got the following message:
Cannot write into file 'c: empmaster'. Verify that you have write permissions, that the file path is valid, and that the file does not already exist.
NB: I am using the "sa" user to execute this command.
I know that we have a security permission issue , but where and how ?
