I have the following datasource... <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ***%>" ProviderName="<%$ ***%>" SelectCommand='SELECT "var1", "var2", "var3" FROM "tbl1"'> </asp:SqlDataSource> Would it be possible to use VB code to read the reasults from this datasource? (There are conditions that restrict me from running the query itself through VB code.) As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, Can anyone tell me how to access the results from a select statement within the stored procedure?
This is to implement auditting functionality, before updating a record i want select the original record and compare the contents of each field with the varibles that are passed in, if the fields contents has changed i want to write an audit entry.
So i'd like to store the results of the select statement in a variable and access it like a dataset. e.g
declare selectResult
set selectResult = Select field1,field2,field3 from table1
if selectResult.field1 <> @field1 begin exec writeAudit @var1,@var2,var3 end
Can I use sqlDatareader with a stored procedure to return more than one reultset that I ll be accessing through MyDatareader.MoveNext Any Little example on both the stored proc and the .Net side Thanks
Does anyone know if it is possible to access the execution plan results programmatically through a stored procedure or .NET assembly? I have the code sample
SET SHOWPLAN_XML ON; query... SET SHOWPLAN_XML OFF;
but it can only be run from the interface. I have tried a couple of solutions including dynamic sql to try to capture the results in a variable or file with no luck.
Does anyone know of a way to programmatically capture this information? We are doing some research with distributed query processing of dynamically generated queries using multiple processing nodes, and it would be helpful to know an estimate of how large the query is before sending it away to be processed.
I have looked at the dm_exec_query_stats view; but it can only be run on a query that has already been executed. I need to know the execution plan before the query is executed. If there is a way to get a query to show up in this view without being executed, then that would work as well.
I've found example code of accessing an SQLDataSource and even have it working in my own code - an example would be Dim datastuff As DataView = CType(srcSoftwareSelected.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty), DataView) Dim row As DataRow = datastuff.Table.Rows(0) Dim installtype As Integer = row("InstallMethod") Dim install As String = row("Install").ToString Dim notes As String = row("Notes").ToString The above only works on a single row, of course. If I needed more, I know I can loop it.The query in srcSoftwareSelected is something like "SELECT InstallMethod, Install, Notes FROM Software"My problem lies in trying to access the data in a simliar way when I'm using a SELECT COUNT query. Dim datastuff As DataView = CType(srcSoftwareUsage.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty), DataView) Dim row As DataRow = datastuff.Table.Rows(0) Dim count As Integer = row("rowcnt") The query here is "SELECT COUNT(*) as rowcnt FROM Software"The variable count is 1 every time I query this, no matter what the actual count is. I know I've got to be accessing the incorrect data member in the 2nd query because a gridview tied to srcSoftwareUsage (the SQLDataSource) always displays the correct value. Where am I going wrong here?
My query returns a table of results, I would like to add a count columnthat contains the number of each result type returned.i.e.Type Count1 31 31 32 22 23 43 43 43 44 24 2Because there are 3 of type 1, 2 of type 2, 4 of type 3 etc...Is there straightforward way of doing this in SQL?Thanks
Just a quick question, how do I divide the results of these two queriestogether ?(select count (*) as ontime from schedule where actualarrivaldate <=estimatearrivaldate)(select count (*) as total from schedule)Thanks for any helpRobert
I have a store procedure "Get_Student_By_District" ParameterDistrictID if null return all Return: Value(DistrictID, DistricName, SchoolID, SchoolName, TeacherID, TeacherName, StudentID, StudentName)
I will need to write another store procedure to calculate the additional 7 fields and include all the information it already has to have one dataset for my table in a Report.
1. Number of Students for a given Teacher 2. Number of Students for a given School 3. Number of Students for a given District 4. Number of Teachers for a given School 5. Number of Teachers for a given District 6. Number of Schools for a given District 7. Number of Districts
Two tables: CompanyPrices(CompanyID, ProductID, Price), CompanyRegion(CompanyID, Region) ProductID is the primary key.
I want to get 10 smallest prices in each Region. In other words, I am looking for 10 cheapest prices in each region. So, if there are 20 regions, I should get excatly 200 rows having prices for products from 200 companies if there were at least 10 companies in each region.
I tried the follwoing, but get incorrect results.
select S1.Region, S1.Price from (select CompanyPrices.*, Region from CompanyPrices inner join CompanyRegion on CompanyPrices.CompanyID=CompanyRegion.CompanyID) S1 inner join (select CompanyPrices.*, Region from CompanyPrices inner join CompanyRegion on CompanyPrices.CompanyID=CompanyRegion.CompanyID) S2 on S1.Region = S2.Region group by S1.Region, S1.Price having count(*)<=10 order by S1.Region, S1.Price
However, if I want to get 10 cheapest products for each company, the above sql works by modifying the join condition. Instead of S1.Region = S2.Region , I use S1.CompanyID = S2.CompanyID and I get correct results for 10 cheapest products for each company.
select S1.CompanyID, S1.Price from (select CompanyPrices.*, Region from CompanyPrices inner join CompanyRegion on CompanyPrices.CompanyID=CompanyRegion.CompanyID) S1 inner join (select CompanyPrices.*, Region from CompanyPrices inner join CompanyRegion on CompanyPrices.CompanyID=CompanyRegion.CompanyID) S2 on S1.CompanyID = S2.CompanyID group by S1.CompanyID, S1.Price having count(*)<=10 order by S1.CompanyID, S1.Price
I am not sure what is wrong in the first query and why it does not work when the second one works. Could someone help in making the first query work to give me correct results?
Hey all - VERY new to SQL so I apologize if I butcher normally trivial things :)
Looking to run a query that will retrieve the number of results returned from a select statement...
Currently have a LicenseID table with a Software column...the statement that works on it's own that i've got is:
SELECT * FROM Software WHERE LicensesID = 2
Currently when I run that with the data so far I get 4 results returned to me...how can I add to that statement so that instead of displaying the results themselves, I just get the number 4 returned as a total number of results?
I'm reading a lot of data from a database using SqlDataReader. Now I'd like to report the progress to the user, but for this I need to know in advance how many items SqlDataReader will return.
Is there any way to get this 'number of expected results' from the SqlDataReader?
I have 2 tables. Product, ProductCategory. Product table consists of (productid, productname, producttypeid, createdate, portid) productcategory consists of (productid, categoryid, productcategoryid, categoryid, prodroletypeid, createdate) I want to write sql query to get the unique products. So the count should only give one value/resuls. But when I run the following query, I am getting more than one rows select count(distinct categoryid) as uniquecat from productcategory as pc, product as p where pc.prodroletypeid in ('P', 'F') and pc.createdate <= dateadd(d, 30, getdate()) and p.portid = 100 group by pc.productid
I have a table that seems to have a bad index. When I do the followingquery I get inconsistant and needless to say incorrect results.select count(*) from mytable where mycolumn = 1If I remove the index from "mycolumn" the query works correctly. If Iadd the index back (even with a new name etc...) it doesn't workright.Has anyone ran into this? or does anyone know how I can fix thisproblem?It seems that removing the index is not really removing everythingbecause when I add a new one I get this same problem... btw, this isisolated to this column on this table. all other indexes within thedatabase are fine.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks,dharper
I have an aggregate transform that outputs two columns, a group by (DT_STR) and a count(column name) (DT_UI8). The results are put into a Recordset Destination. When I attempt to map these columns to variables in a Foreach Loop Container (using a Foreach ADO Enumerator), I get the error:
Error: 0xC001F009 at ExtractNNRPersonUpdates: The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::NNRPersonCount" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object.
Error: 0xC001C012 at Foreach Household Loop Container: ForEach Variable Mapping number 2 to variable "User::NNRPersonCount" cannot be applied.
The variable mentioned in the error message is setup as a UInt64. I've tried all other integer data types and nothing works. I also tried changing the data type of the count coming out of the Aggregate transform but received a warning stating this isn't possible.
I need to query the count of an occurrence in a given period of time, so I created this query. But it does not give me any results.
SELECT TOP 1000 o.[ID] ,o.[TimeOfOrder] ,x.[StreeLine1] FROM [SC].[dbo].[bvc_Order] o FULL JOIN SC.dbo.xmlAddressRead x ON o.ID= x.id WHERE DATEDIFF(HOUR,o.[TimeOfOrder],(DATEADD(Hour, -48, GETDATE()))) < 48 GROUP BY x.[StreeLine1], o.ID, o.TimeOfOrder HAVING COUNT(x.[StreeLine1])>1
Then I change the query slightly and I ask it to show me the ones that are going to '599 Ships Landing Way' and it gives me 356 results! The Query doesn't crash, but it doesn't give me the results I need. What did I do incorrectly?
SELECT TOP 1000 o.[ID] ,o.[TimeOfOrder] ,x.[StreeLine1] FROM [SC].[dbo].[bvc_Order] o FULL JOIN SC.dbo.xmlAddressRead x ON o.ID= x.id WHERE DATEDIFF(HOUR,o.[TimeOfOrder],(DATEADD(Hour, -48, GETDATE()))) < 48 AND x.[StreeLine1]='599 Ships Landing Way'
SELECT COUNT(id) as viewcount from location_views WHERE createdate>DATEADD(dd,-30,getdate()) AND objectid=357 SELECT COUNT(id)*2 as clickcount FROM extlinks WHERE createdate>DATEADD(dd,-30,getdate()) AND objectid=357
But I want to add the COUNT statements, so this is what I did:
select COUNT(vws.id)+COUNT(lnks.id)*2 AS totalcount FROM location_views vws,extlinks lnks WHERE (vws.createdate>DATEADD(dd,-30,getdate()) AND vws.objectid=357) OR (lnks.createdate>DATEADD(dd,-30,getdate()) AND lnks.objectid=357)
Turns out the query becomes immensely slow. There must be something I'm doing wrong here which results in such bad performance, but what is it?
Hi there I sorry if I have placed this query in the wrong place. I'm getting to grips with ASP.net 2, slowly but surely! When i try to access my site which uses a Sql Server 2005 express DB i am receiving the following error:

The database is definitly in the folder that the error message relates to. What I'm finding confusing is that the connection string seems to be finding "aranga"s database. Is it something daft?

hi, like, if i need to do delete some items with the id = 10000 then also need to update on the remaining items on the with the same idthen i will need to go through all the records to fetch the items with the same id right? so, is there something that i can use to hold those records so that i can do the delete and update just on those records and don't need to query twice? or is there a way to do that in one go ?thanks in advance!
I have four tables: Customer (CustomerId INT, CountyId INT), County (CountyId INT), Search(SearchId INT), and SearchCriteria (SearchCriteriaId INT, SearchId INT, CountyId INT, [others not related to this]).
I want to search Customer based off of the Search record, which could have multiple SearchCriteria records. However, if there aren't any SearchCriteria records with CountyId populated for a given Search, I want it to assume to get all Customer records, regardless of CountyId.
Right now, I'm doing it this way.
DECLARE @SearchId INT = 100 SELECT * FROM Customer WHERE CountyId IN ( SELECT CASE WHEN EXISTS(SELECT CountyId FROM SearchCriteria WHERE SearchId = @SearchId) THEN SearchCriteria.CountyId
[Code] .....
This works; it just seems cludgy. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

Hello. I currently have a website that has a table on one webpage. When a record is clicked, the primary key of that record is transfered in the query string to another page and fed into an sql statement. In this case its selecting a project on the first page, and displaying all the scripts for that project on another page. I also have an additional dropdownlist on the second page that i use to filter the scripts by an attribute called 'testdomain'. At present this works to an extent. When i click a project, i am navigated to the scripts page which is empty except for the dropdownlist. i then select a 'testdomain' from the dropdownlist and the page populates with scripts (formview) for the particular test domain. what i would like is for all the scripts to be displayed using the formview in the first instance when the user arrives at the second page. from there, they can then filter the scripts using the dropdownlist. My current SQL statement is as follows. SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [TestScript] WHERE (([ProjectID] = @ProjectID) AND ([TestDomain] = @TestDomain))" So what is happening is when testdomain = a null value, it does not select any scripts. Is there a way i can achieve the behaivour of the page as i outlined above? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, James.

Hi all, I have the following SQLDataSource statement which connects to my Gridview:<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSourceStandings" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT P.firstName, P.lastName, T.teamName, IsNull(P.gamesPlayed, 0) as gamesPlayed, IsNull(P.plateAppearances,0) as plateAppearances, IsNull( (P.plateAppearances - (P.sacrifices + P.walks)) ,0) as atbats, IsNull(P.hits,0) as hits, P.hits/(CONVERT(Decimal(5,2), IsNull(NullIF(P.atbats, 0), 1))) AS [average], (P.hits + P.walks)/(CONVERT(Decimal(5,2), IsNull(NullIF( (P.atbats + P.sacrifices + P.walks) , 0), 1))) AS [OBP], (P.hits - (P.doubles + P.triples + P.homeRuns) + (2 * P.doubles) + (3 * P.triples) + (4 * P.homeRuns)) / (CONVERT(Decimal(5,2), IsNull(NullIF(P.atbats, 0), 1))) AS [SLG], P.singles, P.doubles, P.triples, P.homeRuns, P.walks, P.sacrifices, P.runs, P.rbis FROM Players P INNER JOIN Teams T ON P.team = T.teamID ORDER BY P.firstName, P.lastName"></asp:SqlDataSource>There are 8 teams in the database, and somehow the average and obp results are as expected for all teams except where T.teamID = 1. ErikGalvezMelville82625180.7200000.7307691.24000011322101015 As you can see, all teams except for Safe Haven's have the correct AVG and OBP. Since AVG is simply H/AB, it doesn't make sense for Gabriel Helbig's results to be 1.00000. Can anyone shed ANY light on this please?Thank you in advance,Markuu ***As a side note, could anyone also let me know how I could format the output so that AVG and OBP are only 3 decimal places? (ex: 0.719 for the 1st result)***
Hi, I have a web form that lets users search for people in my database they wish to contact. The database returns a paged set of results using a CTE, Top X, and Row_number(). I would like to give my users to option of removing individual people from this list but cannot find a way to do this. I have tried creating a session variable with a comma delimited list of ID's that I pass to my sproc and use in a NOT IN() statement. But I keep getting a "Input string was not in a correct format." Error Message. Is there any way to do this? I am still new to stored procedures so any advice would be helpful. Thanks
Hi, when I copy and paste results from query analyzer into Excel it appears that values with zeroes at the end loose the zeroes. Example, if I copy and paste V128.0 into an Excel cell it comes out as V128 or if I copy 178.70 it displays as 178.7 - any ideas? I'm using SQL Enterprise Manager for 2000.
I use SQL 2000 I have a Column named Bool , the value in this Column is 00111 I no I can use Count() to count this column ,the result would be "5" but what I need is "2" and "3" and then I will show "2" and "3" in my DataGrid as the True is 2 and False is 3 the Query will have some limited by a Where Query.. but first i need to know .. how to have 2 result count could it be done by Count()? please help. thank you very much
SQL 2000I have a table with 5,100,000 rows.The table has three indices.The PK is a clustered index and has 5,000,000 rows - no otherconstraints.The second index has a unique constraint and has 4,950,000 rows.The third index has no constraints and has 4,950,000 rows.Why the row count difference ?Thanks,Me.
The following query returns a value of 0 for the unit percent when I do a count/subquery count. Is there a way to get the percent count using a subquery? Another section of the query using the sum() works.
Here is a test code snippet:

declare @Date datetime
set @date = '8/15/2007'
select -- count returns unit data Count(substring(m.PTNumber,3,3)) as PTCnt, -- count returns total for all units
