Ntext Columns Truncated To 32K When Processed By Integration Services

I have an Integration services application that retrieves big strings (over 32k) from an ODBC data source and stores them in a SQL server 2005 database as ntext.
Somehow the strings are truncated to 32K. The app only copies the data from the ODBC datasource to the (OLEDB) target.
Also, some of the special characters in the input text are not properly translated.
What's the best way to write key values of records processed in my SSIS 2012 package to the log provider chosen?My SSIS package deactivates widgets as well as thingies. It was just released into production this week, runs daily, and we'd like to keep a close eye on what it's doing for a couple of weeks, by that I mean on any day be able to quickly see which thingies and widgets were deactivated that morning. It typically deactivates less than 5 widgets and thingies per day.
We could dig through the database to see which were deactivated, but that only works if somebody hasn't manually reactivated it since it was deactivated. We need a log. This is a temporary watch we're doing, so we don't want to write to a table or make make any significant package changes, such as adding new tasks.It seems like writing the 5-or-so deactivated thingy and widget key values to the log is the best way to watch this package. What's the most efficient way to do this? I'm hoping to avoid a new loop and script component with "Dts.Log" calls, but I don't know any other way.
My source data indeed has leading 0s and I am reading my data into a #Temp Table with the data type of VARCHAR(10)...and its value is "0002565387". I am pumping this data into a SQL Server Table utilizing "OLE DB Destination". My "Flat File Connection Manager" has this column [AdditionalInfo4] defined as string [DT_STR] and the OutputColumnWidth is 100. I don't do any data derivation against this particular data column and simply map it in my "OLE DB Destination" and my database column is defined as [AdditionalInfo4] with a data type of VARCHAR(100).
Upon successful data pump of the data into my SQL Server Table, the column appears in SQL Server as "2565387".
Why is my SSIS solutuion truncating the leading 0s, which are indeed significant, on the data pump of data into my SQL Server Table? Is this possibly just a nuance of SSIS? Should I define a data column derivation for this data column so that the leading 0s are retained?
I have created a SSIS package that runs several reports exporting the file output to a shared directory. Then I email these files as attachments to an email group. I got everything working so far. But when I checked the email there are only some of the attachments (3 out of 6 files).I have created a variable that uses an expression to concatenate several filenames and their paths separated with a "|". When I evaluate the expression it list all six files. When I use the variable in an expression when assigning the "FileAttachments" property in the Expressions tab in the Send Mail Task editor and I evaluate the expression, it only shows 3 out of the 6 files.
Each file name and path is less than 100 characters. Why is this task only grabbing 3 out of the 6 files. If I check the shared directory all 6 files are there. Also, there are two paths in the package that input into the Send Mail Task each creating a different set of report files. Only one of the paths files are getting attached. The connectors to the Send Mail Task are set as Evaluation operation: "Constraint" and the Value: "Completion". Under Multiple constraints I have selected "Logical AND, All constraints must evaluate to True".
I am loading data from a SQL server source table to oracle destination table and data type on both the tables are same but range is not same VARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL in oracle and sql data type is varchar(200). But when trying to load the data from TABLE SQL to TABLE Oracle i'm getting the following error:
I'm trying to import data in Excel into SQL Server table which you would think would be an absolute doddle seeing as they're both key Microsoft products in the BI family..One of the columns in Excel spreadsheet is Comments1 and a couple of the values in this column are over 300 characters in length yet when I set up the Excel source and then open Advanced Editor and look at Input and output properties this column has a data-type of Unicode string [DT_WSTR] with length of 255 which leads to the truncated error in the title.
I've researched this and on find going into the registry and updating the TypeGuessRows value from 8 to zero. I've done this and yet the data-type is still showing as Unicode string [DT_WSTR] with length of 255. I've even moved the row with the largest number of characters to the top of the spreadsheet and changed the TypeGuessRows value to 1 but the data-type still stays the same.I can't believe that it's soooo difficult to import data from one of Microsoft's key BI applications to another using their 'world-class' integration tool.
I will be receiving a CSV daily where columns within the file will change. The column order and number of columns can change daily. I need a way to read in the header from the csv and create a flat file connection that reflects the columns listed in the header.
Is there an easy way to do this using a script task? I have already read the header into a table but I have been unable to create the dynamic file connection.
I have a situation where i need to unpivot multiple columns using ssis. The data looks like

Is it possible to do this using the unpivot task in ssisMy actual data is has 18 columns which needed to be unpivoted into one and another 18 into another one.when using unpivot task it gives an error saying only one pivotvalue key is allowed.
I have a lot of different data flows that need "Derived Column". There are maybe only 5 different such "Derived Column" but they appear many times. Is there a way to eliminate all that double work? It should be something that does not take me more time to do than just duplicating all the "Derived Columns".
I am new to SSIS and C#. In SQL Server 2008 I am importing data from a .csv file. Now I have the columns dynamic. They can be around 22 columns (some times more or less). I created a staging table with 25 columns and import data into it. In essence each flat file that I import has different number of columns. They are all properly formatted only. My task is to import all the rows from a .csv flat file including the headers. I want to put this in a job so I can import multiple files into the table daily.
So inside a for each loop I have a data flow task within which I have a script component. I came up(research online) with the C# code below but I get error:Index was outside the bounds of the array.I tried to find the cause using MessageBox and I found it is reading the first line and the index is going outside the bounds of the array after the first line.

I would like to know what is the use of business key? Is it necessary to have unique key between source and destination? If no, How can we implement SCD?

When I enter over 4000 chars in any ntext field in my SQL Server 2005 database (directly in the database and through the application) I get an error saying that the data could not be updated because string or binary data would be truncated.Has anyone ever seen this? I cannot figure out what is causing it, ntext should be able to hold a lot more data that this...
I have to load on SS2012 hundeds of excel files produced by an application over the last five years, during time few columns have been added to the initial set.I created on SS2012 a table to match with the full set of columns and want to load all the files inside the table leaving the missing cells to NULL. I think SSIS can do the job but every trial failed do far.
I have to transform 500 columns from an excel sheet to Sql Server. In Excel 2k3 , I can read a max of 256 columns only.If I use Excel 2k7, then SSIS 2k5 excel source does not support excel 2k7. If I use ole db source then again it can read a max of 256 columns.how can we read 500 columns in excel sheet (Around 10000 rows) efficiently using SSIS 2k5.
In SSIS I use the DQS Cleansing transformation component. I've got a knowledge base (KB) in place and this KB holds various domains and my data source has more input columns than would like to use for a particular clean up operation. I want to use some of the input columns to map against some domains in the KB. It is my understanding that it should be possible to select only the required input columns, but all i can do is select all input columns.
In ssis i am using ado.net and selecting odbc driver i am giving select statement which is having 100 columns in that 50 columns values are NULLS Its giving error saying Null columns not found.
If i add column s which are non null no error .error with null values.
We have a requirement to produce adhoc Excel reports with a standardized header page with a disclaimer attached. We want to be able to feed in a SQL Statement, or a table with the resultset from a SQL Statement and have SSIS populate an existing blank Excel workbook, which the disclaimer attached. The use of xp_cmdshell is not an option.I've spent a lot of time looking for solutions on the web and it seems though its not possible - although many articles are 3-5 years old. Before I throw in the towel, I just wanted to get feedback from this group if it still is not possible in the latest versions of SQLServer and SSIS, or to ask if there are any other 3rd party solutions that can do this today.
I was to split each record into multiple columns. The problem is some records need to be split into only 1 column, others may need to be split into more. Also need to remove the "/"'s. This is all dependent on where a "/" is found. Been beating my head for a while and getting nowhere.

I have a scenario where we have to handle dynamically changing source columns.
For example , some times in the source files the number of columns will be increased or decreased, new columns can be added in the middle or in the end of the source file.
I have a requirement wherein I have to setup the flat file connection manager to accept columns on fly. Meaning I want to retrieve list of columns/column count from the database when the package is run and set the connection manager with those many columns.
I've created a SSIS package which takes a matrix from Excel file and insert into SQL table. It works perfectly! However, if I would add a new column into that matrix in Excel. Unpivot tool should take into process dynamically. Is there a way to provide this automatically?
I have a situation where I want to load the Excel file dynamically, and the excel file have different columns or even worksheet name. How I could approach this? I believe there's no way to modify the meta data (specifically the mapping) in the data flow.
I want to load flat files into a single table. But the flat files can have variable number of columns upto a maximum of 10 columns. The table in my database has 10 columns in it. So in case if I load a flat file having 6 columns then rest of the columns in the table will have nulls. I don't want to use script task for this as I am not good in writing C#code.
I'm trying to use the Import/Export Wizard as I used to, as a handy tool to figure out what a series of T-SQL statements (in an SSIS package) is doing - or, if I'm lucky, what on earth the original dev intended them to do.

SELECT DISTINCT on one set of column names, join this set to another table but not on exactly the same set of column names, embedded (SELECT MAX(bla) FROM SameTable WHERE [match to outer set on another set of columns] GROUP BY [hey, yet another set of columns!]) inside the SELECT column list... and it all goes to a nasty #Tmp, which is then abused with further bad code further down.
Imp/Exp is always handy to quickly get the intermediate results into an auto-created real table, so I can figure out exactly what the effect of this is. I use it to export from the database back to the same database, but to a persisted table.
This time (first time with SQL2014) it's not working. The source is "write a query" (paste the actual query). The destination I set to a new table. The auto-generation of the new table creates every column as type date. Not surprisingly, this doesn't work, as the original data is mostly not of date time.
The only way to add a new column to an existing mapping that I know is to go to advanced editor and refresh. This however keeps only the default mapping (where the field names match), the rest is wiped out, so need to restore the mapping manually after that. Risky and annoying at the same time. Is there any alternative?
In order to update an Oracle table target from a SQL Server table source I need to use a Foreach Loop Container, so I can loop on the rows of the SQL Server table source. This source table has two columns: the old identifier to update and the new identifier to apply. I must use the value of the old identifier to filter the Oracle rows to update, while the new identifier is the new value to assign to the filtered old identifier.
I already know how to use the Foreach Loop Container when it is necessary to loop on an unique column of a table/view (using an object variable, using a Foreach ADO enumerator, etc.), but I need to loop on two columns.
I have a main report and 2 sub reports. I would like to pass the total Premium Paid from 2nd Sub report , and Total Bonus received from 3rd Sub report back to main report.

I am writing a package where, at one step, I need to copy data from a source with text columns of 150 characters to a destination with matching text columns of only 60 characters. The data present in the source is all less than 60 characters in length, but if this changes in the future and data begins to be truncated, I want to be informed of this.
This raises two problems. First, because I'm not pre-emptively truncating the columns, my Data Flow Destination allows shows a validation warning. Is there any way I can tell SSIS "I know that data might be truncated, but I want to deal with that at run-time, not as design-time"?
Second, I'm not sure how to pass myself a notification using the options provided by Error Output on the Data Flow Destination. Fail Component would allow me to alter the control flow, but I would prefer not to have the process fail utterly because of one truncated record. I'm not sure if Ignore Failure will simply omit the row that would be truncated (not an acceptable solution) or truncate the data (could work temporarily, but I still need to be warned). Redirect Row is appealing but has a different problem - if I redirect the error/truncated rows to a separate table, that Data Flow Task no longer fails, which means I have no way to raise a notification.
Is there a better way to do this? The only option I can think is to do Redirect Row, and then have the next step in the Control Flow be a script that checks for the presence of records in my error table, and send a notification if there are, but that seems unnecessarily circuituous. Is there a way in SSIS to arbitrarily send a Failure message if a given step is hit (possibly with Events), or is that case reserved strictly for halting failures?
