Here the requirement is, if the parameter is null still the report should display all the data, the quey is like,

when i tried to run the report with this query and without the parameter value , it didn't work. asked for enter the value for p_id , the parameter cannot be blank.
Any suggestions please...

I am update/inserting records threw a web form in vb.net. I need to insert 'NULL' into my microsoft sql server database. I am not talking about the below line of code where website is the name of my paramater. If i do that it will just place a blank into that field in the database. If i dont enter anything into that textbox I want it to to say NULL in that field. So if I go into the actual table in the SQL Server Management Studio and look at the website field of the recored I just added or updated and did not type anything into the web site textbox it needs to say NULL. I also tried the second line of code but that places a single quote in front and behind NULL. So the field will have the value 'NULL'.

The reason why I need the NULL there is because I bind the website filed to a hyperlink template in a gridview. The actual text of the hyperlink is bound to PAYER which is a name of a insurance payer but the navigateto is bound to the website field. If i do not enter any data into the website field and it stays as NULL, then when my gridview is loaded, payers that dont have a website will not be underlined and user wont have the option to click on them since there is no value for the navigateto. But if i use my form to update/add a payer and leave the website textbox blank in puts a blank into that field in my database and when it loads that new row into the gridview the PAYER is underlined and u can click on it but it will just take u to the web site is unavailable page. So is there anyway to actaull have NULL placed into a filed and not just blank space
I have provided required permissions, still user not able to view report builder option in his console.
what could be wrong? what needs to be done to provide report builder to users.

Hi,
I am getting timeout or connection closed error on report server when i try to create snapshot for a large report on my development machine.Snapshot are getting created for small reports.
I have done following changes to rsreportserver.config
<Add Key="SQLCommandTimeoutSeconds" Value="1000000"/>
<Add Key="DatabaseQueryTimeout" Value="1000000"/>
and
IIS time out to some large value.
But everytime it shows timeout or connection closed forcibly.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

If I use "results to text" option when executing a query in Ms SQL Server Management Studio null value is inserted as 'NULL' string in the result. Is it possible to have blank ('') string instead of 'NULL' in the result in 2005 version.
It must be possible, but I could not find it in tools/options

Solve some problem with the user, and it looks ok.
I'm using a asp web aplication, with vb dll, and change the sql provider from "SQL Server" to "SQL Native Client". It works, but in some recordsets the value a recive for the table primary key is null?????
If execute the querie in the database, the result has values in the primary key.
the same appends when i connect to an SQL Server 2000 using "SQL Native Client".
Please help, what can i do.
I've tried to import a text file into a table using the Import/export wizard.
My problem starts with some columns that should have NULL values (i.e. zero-length string) but the wizard doesn't recognize that it's NULL.
How do I solve the problem?

I'm importing data form an Excel file to a Sql Server Database. Some of the data imported represents time as a double type so i convert the times into DateTime to be inserted into the database. I have an Excel spreadsheet (Excel 2003 format) with a column of values. The column is formated to General (although I've tried it formated to text). The values are alphanumeric. However, there are a few values that are completely numeric.
Example:
_ITEMNUMBER_
1-528
K214-5
184PR
45678
As can be seen, the last value is completely numeric. I am importing into a table with one column that is formated as nvarchar(50).
I use dtswizard.exe and do a simple import into the table and the alphanumeric values import just fine but anytime a value is completely numeric it has a NULL value in the table instead of the value that should be there.
I've tried changing the format of the column to nchar, char, etc, etc. Always comes in NULL.
Any ideas?
I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:
SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer
ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.
I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.

I have an ASP.Net page that needs to sometimes pass a null parameter value to the querystring. It bombes out with an error that a date cannot be "" and that i need to supply the date.
Has any1 been able to get this right? How does one pass a null date through the querystring?

I use a parameter for product type in my report so that end user can select different product types from a drop down menu. Now my problem is that for some fields product type is blank(NULL). But end user can not see these NULL value when he click drop down menu. I can not use Allow Null value option in report paramter , because I have used multi value option.
Is there any other way to select these NULL values?

Hey. I need to substitute a value from a table if the input var is null. This is fine if the value coming from table is not null. But, it the table value is also null, it doesn't work. The problem I'm getting is in the isnull line which is in Dark green color because @inFileVersion is set to null explicitly and when the isnull function evaluates, value returned from DR.FileVersion is also null which is correct. I want the null=null to return true which is why i set ansi_nulls off. But it doesn't return anything. And the select statement should return something but in my case it returns null. If I comment the isnull statements in the where clause, everything works fine. Please tell me what am I doing wrong. Is it possible to do this without setting the ansi_nulls to off??? Thank you

I have a brand new install of sql server 2005 on brand new WINDOWS SERVER2003 with latest versions. Every thing works fine excepting I get a 404 when I connect to report server from management studio..
I am even able to publish reports and all the

I have created a report with a stored proc which takes a parameter whose default value is null. Now when I run my stored proc in Enterprise Manager without any params I get 4 rows otherwise with proper parameter I get 2 rows.
Now I set the params value to allow for Null and blank values. When I run the report if I provide parameter value it works fine but if i try to run it without any param it shows an empty report while the stored proc running without params shows 4 rows.
I have earlier sucessfully created reports where stored procs had 4 params out of which 3 where defaulted to null. And so I set the allow nulls, Allow Blanks values to be true for those params in Rep services. So when I selected value for 1st param and ran the report I got the desired report. But this time I have only one param which can be null. But its not working.

I would like to know how I can indicate a NULL value in a report expression in SSRS / Report Designer.
I am trying to code :
IIF(Value_A = 0, <NULL>, Value_A)
It may look weird but I am trying to return NULL values when Value_A is 0 (zero), in the sample scenario above.
I have tried using the keyword "NULL", but it is highlighted as a syntax error, and suggested to use System.DBNull. I tried it and then it says that components of the System collection cannot be used in an expression, so I am left drawing blanks.

I re-installed the IIS and sql server report services. Then I config the sql server 2005 report.
After that I run the http://servername/reports.
The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not valid, or it cannot be read. The found version is 'Unknown'. The expected version is 'C.0.8.40'. I create Matrix that show the sales and cancels of the sales department.
The TOTAL in the Matrix are fine, but i need to show also how many Sales
(param is bigger then 0) and how many cancels (param is negative, smaller the 0) each
sales man have in the Matrix report. i try to use IIF statement but it only return absolute number:

Now I have two records.

How do I omit null fields in a report including the field description? I am pretty flexible and I am willing to explore using ASP.Net, asp, html, VS2005 ? Or please tell me a program to use. I have a lot of reports to create. The data base is MS SQL 2005. The reports need to be published to the web. Can anyone suggest the best method?
I am attempting to create a new report model. When I try to update statistics from the data source view I get the following error - Data is Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values. I tried changing the generation rules so that attributes are only created for non-empty columns but that didn't help. I want to develop a monthly salary report for our employees. The salary is calculated on daily basis for individiaul employees. Thus the report is supposed to display Employee Name, ID etc + 31 columns (representing maximum days in a month). The report will display the employee basic information along with their salary calculation for each day. So its like 35 columns report. I already have used a cursor in my stored procedure with SQL Server 2005 to get this report (displayed in .NET Page) but the performance is more than worst and takes even 3-4 minutes to compile (which ofcourse is unacceptable). There are around 300 employees and they belong to different departments. When we select a given department, all the respective employees report has to be displayed. If i select All Departments, then the entire 300 employees report has to be displayed. I dont want to cache the data as it will have a big performance issue for the server.
I want some good suggestion on how to develop a monthly report in SQL Server 2005 which can display the data with optimized performance. Kindly help of any guru will be highly appreciated.
