I am trying to enable database mirroring for 100 database.
It goes error free till 59 databases (some times 60 databases) with the
status (principal, synchronized) on principal. on the 60th or 61st database
it gave the status (principal, disconnected). Also mirror starts acting
abnormal. connection to mirror starts to give connection timeout and it is
not enabling database mirroring on any more databases. I have SQL SERVER
2005 Enterprise with SP1 on the servers. witness is not included yet.
this are my test servers... i have more than 500 databases on my production
servers.
principal and mirror both are using port 5022 for ENDPOINT communication.

giving this error while trying to enable database mirroring for 37th

For anyone with a larger number of databases (500+): How many do you have in a single instance. If you are using multiple instance on a single server, how many dbs per instance. This is why I'm asking
We are experiencing 701 "out of system memory" and temporary (usually) system freezes when the error occurs. We have 32bit 2005 version 9.00.2153.00, 32GB of memory, AWE enabled, quad dual-core 3GHz hyperthreaded server. Nether the bPool or VAS show any pressure when the "out of system memory error" occurs. Since this error usually indicates a VAS problem we tried increasing VAS to 1GB w/the -g flag. It made no difference. PSS has been working on the case for 3 weeks. They dont seem to be finding any evidince of memory pressure either. When I last spole to the escalation engineer yesterday it seemed that they are going to recommend reducing the number of databases on the server. I asked for clarification as to whether we are hitting a 32 bit barrior, an instance limitation, or both. I am awaiting the answer. How many databases do you have on your server? We had between 1700 and 1900 (the number varies) at times when the error occured. We are now at 1500, and have not had the error in the 2 days since reducing the number of databases...

I have a new problem with doing a restore of a number of databases using powershell. The script I'm using is based mainly on this one (Part 2 in particular): [URL] .....
The problem I'm having is around the RedgateGetDatabaseName function. My hunch is that its down to the different version of red gate and how sqlbackup works. Basically when the call is made to the function it is returning both the Database Name and the number of row's that the SQL command in the function has ran. I've tried to include a SET NOCOUNT ON at the start of the SQL command in the function but its still returning the now count.

I have a 2 node cluster having 4 cores each wherein having 3 instances of SQL 2008 R2 enterprise comprising of 60 databases, 20 on each instance. I need to setup mirroring for each of the databases to a secondary server having 4 cores and 3 instances. What i understand is that in this case the mirror server will be providing max of 512 worker threads and the 60 mirror databases would consume 240 threads.what all needs to be checked for looking into the feasabilty of going ahead with a async mirror setup as mentioned above.

When I proposed start to use SQL Server 2005 for new VS 2005 web sites, one of my co-workers responded that
we will update the old SQL Server 2000 databases to SQL Server 2005 when we are ready to use 2005 SQL Server.
Questions:
1. Any expected problems to upgrade old 2000 databases to new 2005 SQL Server?
2. I have installed both 2005/Management Studio Express and 2000/Enterprise Manager in my PC. Any expected
problems when running both 2000 and 2005 SQL Server at the same database server?
3. What is the best configuration for running SQL Server 2005 when we have old 2000 databases? Upgade or not upgrade?
TIA,
Jeffrey

Someone said I should upgrade the 6.5 to version 2000 first. Is it the only method? I didn't have SQL 2000 install cdrom and license. How can I do that?

This question is about SQL Server 2005:
I have been trying to figure out how to copy tables and stored procedures between 2 databases (on the same server) using SQL Server Management Studio. I have tried right clicking on the table name, "script table as", "drop to", "clipboard", then I click on the 2nd database, and then click on the "tables" . I change the name of the database and click "execute". This creates the table but does not copy the data. I have also tried "create to" "clipboard" and "insert to" "clipboard" and cannot seem to be able to figure out how to get the results that I want. I am new at this but need to get the tables with the data copied along with the stored procedures, even if I have to do them one at a time. When I was using SQL Server 2000, I was able to use DTS to copy objects to other databases easily. Can someone please tell me a way to accomplish what I need to do? I have gotten information here before that was very useful and was hoping that someone can help me again.Thank you so much. Carol Quinn

Hi
I’m looking for an efficient way of using a singe set of stored procedures to access a number of different databases (Sql Server).
The most feasible option I’ve come up with so far is to send the specific database name through as a parameter. Unfortunately the function “use” isn’t available to stored procs, so it seems I must move the query into a varchar, to then exec it.
There’s been another suggestion of using a web service to store the procedures, but I imagine that this would be very slow and cumbersome.
There must be a better way – any ideas?
Thanks,
indra

Hi,
For various reasons a new desktop application I am developing is using the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Release Candidate to store local data. On my development machine (XP SP2, VS2005, SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition) the software is able to create the database file, and read and write to it fine.
However on our test machine, which does not have any of the development tools the software is unable to create the database. A System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException is thrown. The message is: "SQL Mobile usage is restricted on this platform. To use SQL Mobile, you must install SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, or the Tablet PC SKU." Obviously this goes somewhat against the blurb for SQL Server CE.
Is this something that will be fixed shortly? Or is it the intention that databases can't be created on machines that do not SQL Server or Visual Studio installed? (Incidentally the reason for creating the database on the fly is that we are encrypting it, using the users credentials, so that only they can open the database.)
Thanks, Steve

I believe to configure maximum number of replicas it is required to have 5 nodes (1 Primary & 4 Secondary replicas). But how many databases can be included in one availability group, it think it is 32767. When I am referring to below URL it is mentioned something like "An availability group supports a set of read-write primary databases and one to eight sets of corresponding secondary databases. " What does this 'sets' means, is that maximum limit for only eight databases or maximum groups should be eight?

Good Day,
I am having a problem with creating databases in MS SQL 2005 Server. When I attempt to assign an User Mapping for my SQL user account to the newly created database, the "dbo" user and schema is already assigned. When I try to drop this user in favor of my own, I receive an error message: Cannot alter the user "dbo" (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15150). I am connected to my database engine through the "sa" account.

Hello all,
I use Visual Studio 2005 Standard. I would like to know the best way that I can create Sql Server 2005 Express databases visually since VS2005 Std. does not allow me to do it.
Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance,
- Noble Bell
I'd be interested in knowing how VS doesn't allow you to create a database. What error are you getting?
There are two ways to create databases, depending on your goal:
To just create a database on your server, do the following:
Open the Server Explorer
Right-click on Data Connections
Click Create New SQL Server Database
Specify Server Name and Database Name
Your database will be created and you can start working with it.
Embed a database in your project:
On the Project menu, click Add New Item.
Select SQL Database from the list and give it a name.
Click OK
This will run you thorugh a wizard to create the database.
If your having problems doing either of these, you may not have SQL Server installed on your computer or VS might be pointing to the wrong Instance Name. Check out the Option dialog under Database Tools:ata Connection and verify that the correct instance is specified.

I am trying to create a similar project and I also recieve an error while trying to create a database...
"An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this
failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could Not Open A Connection to SQL Server."
Now let me explain what i am trying to do ...
I am trying to create a web interface for the data that I want to store in the SQL database. I have installed VS2005 & SQL Server Express 2005 on my local machine. I want to develope this project on my local machine and then transfer it to a server once i have finished the project.
If i am doing this all wrong, please let me know !

I have a requirement to pull data from several large tables residing in a Postgres 8.x (PG) database into our SQL Server 2005 warehouse every night. I have been doing this via data dumps to a file then bulk loading said file into SQL2005 but I am running into character encoding issues and newlines embedded in some of the strings which is causing the bulk loader some problems.
I would like to take advantage of the power of SSIS to move the data. I cannot find a current working OLEDB driver for PG and I cannot find an ODBC Data Flow Source in SSIS to use the ODBC driver that is available for PG so I am stuck.
If someone would be kind enough to shed some light on whether this is possible and if so where I could get the instructions on how to do it I would be most appreciative.
Thanks.

OK I think I am missing something here. I have installed the newly released SQL Compact Edition, Server Tools, and Tools for VS SP1. According to the documentation you can do the following to create a SQL Compact Edition DB:
Creating a SQL Server Compact Edition database on the server
In SQL Server Management Studio, open Object Explorer.
In Object Explorer, click Connect, and then choose SQL Server Compact Edition.
In the Connect to Server dialog box, select <New Database€¦> from the Database file drop-down list.
In the Create New SQL Server Compact Edition Database dialog box, type a file path and file name for the new database file. You can optionally select the default sort order and choose whether you want to encrypt or password-protect the database. If you choose to encrypt or password-protect the database, type a password, and then click OK.
Click Connect to connect to the new SQL Server Compact Edition database. The database is now displayed in Object Explorer.
I see no reference to or any option to create or connect to a SQL Server Compact Edition database in SQL Mgmt Studio. I had SQL 2005 Mobile installed previously and this still shows as an option. What I am missing here? Is SQL Mobile now SQL Compact Editon?
Thanks in advance,
Jack
