Odbc Errors On Terminal Server

Jul 23, 2005

We connect via terminal services to an excel spreadsheet that has an
ODBC link to an access database using a pivot table, when we try to
refresh the data within the excel spreadsheet we receive the following
error "the microsoft jet database engine cannot find the input table or
query....."

this works ok if the user connects to terminal services as the
administrator however if they connect as any other issue it won't work

Anyone got any ideas?

(have tried 2000 ts and 2003 ts)

SQL Server 2005 Communcations Errors Through ODBC

Aug 10, 2006

I am the DBA for a product development company with an application currently connected to and running fine on SQL Server 2000. I have recently installed our product on 2005 sql server with compatability version of 90 and some folks have begun testing. Apparently, there are a lot of strange things happening and ODBC errors are frequent. The more they move around in the app, the more errors appear. Sometimes, they appear, sometimes they don't. The most common occurence is an error such as, x table is missing the following columns. Then the user does it again and does not receive the error. Another issues is "Application Terminating Due to Severe Database Error" and when we look at the logs our app generates:

08/10/2006 08:57:09
(01000/10054), [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionRead (recv()).
SQLColAttributes
08/10/2006 08:57:09
Table x.TS_X is missing the following columns:

The user has database role membership db_data_read and db_data_write access to the database.
MDAC version - 2.81.1117
ODBC version - 2000.85.1117

Could this be a permissions issue or possibly more of an ODBC issue? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Getting ODBC Connection Errors With SQL Server 2000 On Windows XP

Apr 21, 2008

Hi all-

I setup a new ODBC connection to MS SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP and keep getting the following errors when I try to
either register a new SQL Server 2000 group within Enterprise Manager or test the new ODBC connection:

Current configuration

- MS SQL Server 2000
-Windows XP
-ODBC 3.85.1117

Errors:

I. Within SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager

Error: SQL Server connection open

II. When I test the ODBC connection:

Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver Version 03.85.1117

Running connectivity tests...

Attempting connection
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found.

TESTS FAILED!

Now here is what has me totally confused:

I can use the command line ISQL to access the database on the server and IP is all correct and port is available.

Any tips how to get this ODBC working?

Thanks
Ben Prusinski

Queries Against Linked Server To Informix Via ODBC Errors

Oct 9, 2007

What can be the reason(s) why I can't get data from a linked server using an ODBC datasource that works fast & fine from MS Access?

I have an ODBC connection (System DSN) configured for an Informix ODBC driver.
The Test button (belonging to this driver-setup) reports a successfull connection test.
Getting data from this database by linking tables in MS Access works fast and easy.
But I have tried for many days now to setup a linked server from SQL Server (2005)
Creation goes fine, but as soon as I issue a query, (e.g. 'select * from infrem723...remotetable' or using 'openquery')
I get the following error:
---

Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "infrem723" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "infrem723".

---

Why is Access able to read what "MSDASQL" cannot?
I am desperate - can anybody help?Thanks a lot!

SQL 7.0 SP 3 And Terminal Server

Has anyone else found problems with their Terminal server after installing SP 3 for SQL 7.0?
Our users permissions changed for their printers and ODBC was giving all kinds of cryptic
error messages. When the users rights were changed from Domain User to Domain Admin
everything works fine. We have been able to reproduce this on numerous servers.and always
after we applied the SP did the problems start.

ODBC Errors

Oct 8, 1999

We have recently upsized several Access databases to SQL 7.0. I created the ODBC datasource to an Access frontend. The tables open but I get the following error when I try to update any of the tables:

ODBC update on a linked table "tablename" failed.

Followed by:

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The text, ntext and image data types cannot be used in the WHERE, HAVING, or ON clause except with the LIKE or IS NULL predicates [#306].

I have downloaded the latest MDAC. Any ideas?

Client ODBC Errors

Jul 20, 1999

As a SQL adminstrator any maintenance I perform including performing full database backups against the sql server with users connected to a certain database, causes the odbc connection to fail between the web server and the sql database. This causes all clients to experience an odbc failure. The only resolution is to reboot the webserver. There is ODBC driver incompatibilites that exist between the servers. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am in the process of a change control request to upgrade the ODBC on the production SQL server to 3.70.0623 the same as the web server but am not sure that this is the issue. Can there be something in the application itself that would be causing it to break and not reestablish the ODBC connection?

Thanks

Is there such a document or reference?

Hanging Or Lockup Issue With SQL Server And Terminal Services 2000 On NT 4 Domain Server

Jul 20, 2005

Hi all,Have a situation that my company has never run across before. Clientis running NT4 for the domain server, using terminal services 2000 andrunning an application with a SQL Server backend and they areexperiencing locking problems. Once one person gets locked out theneveryone trying to access that tables is also locked out as a result. It is not specific to a certain User, or module within theapplication. It's not a specific time of the day (like when a backupwould be running) and sometimes it's in the middle of the night whenthere are actually less Users on the system. We have 500 customers using this application. Most are using SQLServer backend, alot of the newer customers are using TerminalServices, and the number of Users is not accessive as compared to ourother customers. THe only difference is that I do not specificallyknow of another client with an NT4 Domain server in the mix.We actually switched to SQL Server as the recommended back end due tolocking issues using SQLBase because SQL Server is row locking andSQLBase is page locking. Since making this change we have stoppedseeing the locking for years until now. Is this a SQLServer issue orissue with the NT Domain server?Anyone have any ideas???ThanksA

Odbc Errors After Joining New Domain With New User

Jun 14, 2007

Hi

I am new to this forum so I hope I have got the right one.

The problem I am having is I installed a new server into an office with 25 users. I joined the users to the new domain with new logins.

The server process then installed outlook 2003 onto each machine. Most machines are windows 2000

Problems arose in sage I have tied this down to the report designer and odbc.

On every machine bar 1 the report designer crashed when running a report. The problem like I said was that you cannot now connect to the odbc driver for sage and when you go into odbcad and try to look at the driver you get an error saying

The setup routines for the sage line 50 odbc driver could not be loaded due to system error 127

Then after that comes

Could not load the setup or translator library

I have looked on the net for this error and it tells you to look in the registry to make sure that the odbcinst is pointing to the correct location, I have checked this and it is. I ahve also checked the security and this seems ok aswell.

The next step was I loaded a fresh copy of windows 2000 into a new folder and tried to load the odbc driver again. This failed with the same as above.

This points to the software settings but I cannot find out where.

Iwas wondering if anyone has had the same problem and they could point me in the right direction.

SQL Server 2008 :: How To Make Sproc Return Errors For Underlying Table Errors

Jul 1, 2015

I recently updated the datatype of a sproc parameter from bit to tinyint. When I executed the sproc with the updated parameters the sproc appeared to succeed and returned "1 row(s) affected" in the console. However, the update triggered by the sproc did not actually work.

The table column was a bit which only allows 0 or 1 and the sproc was passing a value of 2 so the table was rejecting this value. However, the sproc did not return an error and appeared to return success. So is there a way to configure the database or sproc to return an error message when this type of error occurs?

Font Dependencies Over Terminal Sessions?

Feb 15, 2008

I just have a simple question on font dependencies in reference to deployed reports. In my company, we run citrix presentation servers feeding terminal sessions out to users in remote areas.

My question is, in a terminal session, do the fonts used in the reports need to be installed on the users' local machine (who is connecting via terminal session) or is it enough to just have it on the servers feeding out the terminal session?

For example, we create a report with Arial Narrow font. Our servers hosting citrix presentation server did not have this font installed, so we installed this font on the servers (thus they're displaying correctly). Obviously the server hosting our reporting services has the font. Now a user connects to the server, is granted a terminal session, launches reporting services, report is generated with the correct font displayed, and finally prints the report.

Will the report print in Arial Narrow if the users' local machine doesn't have this font install? I remember reading somewhere that the fonts do not embed, hence the reason for installing the font on our citrix servers.

I realize this is kinda out of the scope of this forum, but perhaps someone on here uses terminal services and can answer this for me. I do plan to test this out when I get home tonight. I'd test it right now, but my computer at home isn't on therefore I can't remote home (plus wake-on-lan isn't configured) to do an actual test. Just thought I'd get some insights from other people.

Thanks in advance!

ReportViewer Not Printing Under Terminal Services

Aug 16, 2007

I have written an application with VB.Net. It display a report written using Reporting Rervices (rdl) in the ReportViewer Contol. When I run the application locally under windows, I can print the report just fine. When I run it under Terminal Services, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times to print. Sometimes it never does. It looks like it prints the pages because the popup displays and it shows it is printing but it never does.

If I bring up the queue for the printer to watch when I print, then click the Print button on the the ReportView contol, I see the print enter the queue on the printer and then it is deleted but nothing prints. If I do it all again, the same thing happens but it may or may not print.

The applicatoin is written in VB.Net under Visual Studio Professional SP1.

Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated!!

Parent Package Reports Failure On Errors, But No Errors In Log

Jul 31, 2006

I have a parent package that calls child packages inside a For Each container. When I debug/run the parent package (from VS), I get the following error message: Warning: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (3) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.

It appears to be failing while executing the child package. However, the logs (via the "progress" tab) for both the parent package and the child package show no errors other than the one listed above (and that shows in the parent package log). The child package appears to validate completely without error (all components are green and no error messages in the log). I turned on SSIS logging to a text file and see nothing in there either.

If I bump up the MaximumErrorCount in the parent package and in the Execute Package Task that calls the child package to 4 (to go one above the error count indicated in the message above), the whole thing executes sucessfully. I don't want to leave the Max Error Count set like this. Is there something I am missing? For example are there errors that do not get logged by default? I get some warnings, do a certain number of warnings equal an error?

Thanks,

Lee

How Can I Use Create Or Alter Statements With ODBC And Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*mdb)?

I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".

When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.

How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?

I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.

Thanks for help!
