I am using Sql 7.0 with sp2. I just started as a sql dba. I have a question here, What is the importance of SID's ? When we are mapping to sql logins and user_id 's how we have to give importance regarding SID's.

Explaining Importance To End Users

I am thinking of an easy way to explain importance to Marketers without going into the math. This is what i came up with so far. Does this sound correct to you guys?



Reasoning:

IMPORTANCE = Log(Improvement)



Improvement=P(X&Y)/(P(x)*P(y))



Improvement= (Probability 2 products are sold together)/(random chance 2 products are sold together)



If the (Probability 2 products are sold together) = (random chance 2 products are sold together) then Improvement=1. The log(1) = 0



IMPORTANCE SCORE
-2 to -1 10 to 100 times less likely than random chance
-1 to 0 0 to 10 times less likely than random chance
0 to 1 0 to 10 times more likely than random chance
1 to 2 10 to 100 times more likely than random chance
2 to 3 100 to 1000 times more likely than random chance
3 to 4 1000 to 10000 times more likely than random chance

Association Rules - Importance

I understand Mr. MacLennan's explanation provided at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=282651&SiteID=1 and appreciate the time he took to explain how importance works. However, like the user with username "sang", I also ran the data in BI 2005 and got the same results listed by the aforementioned user. I did this using the following data:

The rule muffin -> donut has an importance of -0.105302438, which is not the same as Mr. MacLennan's results. I tried switching the roles of a and b in a -> b and using different bases on the logarithms. I don't get the result of -0.105302438 with any of these. I also tried to calculate importance with a small data set I have and can't get the results using Mr. MacLennan's explanation with that data set either. Any thoughts on the descrepancy?

The Mean Of Using Association With Importance And Probability

hi,
i have a exercise using association datamining
my database have 350 records,
i use 90 records for datamining and it release some rules which i choose on top of mSOLAP_NODE_SCORE,
but when i use select statement to check my result i have 1 records, the same as my result, and 5 records not true;
for example:
rules A=a,B=b-> C=c
select * from <my_table> where A='a' and B='b' and C='c'; ==>1 record return
select * from <my_table> where A='a' and B='b' and C<>'c'; ==>5 records return
C with 3 values c1,c2,c
with the second statement C includes 2 c1 and 3 c2

i don't understand how they work.
i want to choose some best rules can present my database.
how can i choose importance and probability to get best rules.
with database have 90 records and a database have 350 records which values i should use for minimum_probability, Minimum_Support, Minimum_importance...
when i choose rules i should choose on importance or probability.

Attribute 'importance' Factor

Is there a way to explicitly assign 'weights' or 'importance' factors to attributes and have that to be considered by the association rules and decision trees algorithms during training? I would like to do so without preprocessing the data (In any case, I can't think on a way to assign weight with preprocessing to boolean attributes like 'smoker')

Unique Columns In Sort By Importance Result

I try to search my data and sort the result by importance.

I'm using a MS Access database and my data (table1) looks like this:

I want to search the data and get a result where the column "NAME" is more important than "TEXT". My SQL looks like this:

SELECT id,name,text,2 AS searchorder FROM table1 WHERE text LIKE '*yellow*'

So far so good - the order by importance works - but I do not get unique columns because of the searchorder column.

Can I fix my SQL so I get unique columns where the last line of "Yellow apples" does not appear or am I lost in space?

Slowness In SSIS Package And The Importance Of Disk Maintenance

During testing a package repetatively that deletes/inserts into several tables, over the course of several days, my package, which took 45 minutes to load 1700 XML files, began to take over 6 hours. Turns out it was an I/O bottleneck, and the Avg Disk Queue Length was around 200 and I was incurring many PAGEIOLATCH_EX. My devl machine uses a single local disk, no raid, so I had no options there, but I ran the maintenance wizard to recreate indexes/statistics and defraged the hard drive, and regained my original 45 minutes time. I guess I'll have to put a maintenance plan together to do this nightly.

Conditional Order By - Sort Result Set By Employee Number Ascending Order

In SQL sERVER 2008, I have two fields - Depatment and Employees. I need to sort the result set by employee number ascending order, with following exception

1)when department number = 50 - the preferred order is Employee # - 573 followed by 551-572 (employee # belong to Dept 50 = 551-573)

2)When Department number = 20 – the preferred sort order is Employee # 213-220, followed by Employee # 201-213 (employee # belong to Dept 20 = 201-220)

Analysis :: Order Of Rows In Tabular Table Not In Same Order Data Was Retrieved?

I never paid much attention to this before but I noticed this today in a new table I was creating.

For tables defined in the tabular model the table properties have something like SELECT Blah FROM TableName ORDER BY Blah Then in the tabular model the table's data is in the same order it was ordered by in the data source for the table.

I have a date table I setup and I noticed it is NOT respecting the sort order.

I have it sorted by DateID which sorts with the oldest date first and newest date as last row.However, the table that is imported and stored in the data model is not in that order.

I can of course manually sort the rows in BIDS/DataTools, but I find this discrepancy odd.

Would this have negative impacts on the EARLIER function for example if the data rows are not in the order specified?

I have a query that calculate the total amount of order details based on a particular order:

Select a.OrderID,SUM(UnitPrice*Quantity-Discount)
From [Order Details]
Inner Join Orders a
On a.OrderID=[Order Details].OrderID
Group by a.OrderID

My question is what if I wanted to create a formula to something like:

UnitPrice * Quantity - DiscountAmount Where DiscountAmount = UnitPrice Quantity * Discount

Do I need to create a function for that? Also is it possible to have m y query as a table variable?

Default Sort Order - Open Table - Select Without Order By

I recently run into a senario when a procedure quiered a table without a order by clause. Luckily it retrived data in the prefered order.

The table returns the data in the same order in SQL Manager "Open Table"

So I started to wonder what deterimins the sort order when there is no order by clause ?

I researched this for a bit but found no straight answers. My table has no PK, but an identiy column.

Hey guys, i need to find out how can i add order items under a Purchase Order number.
My table relationship is PurchaseOrder ->PurchaseOrderItem.

hi basically what i have is 3 text boxes. one for start date, one for end date and one for order id, i also have this bit of SQL

Order By Clause In View Doesn't Order.

I have created view by jaoining two table and have order by clause.

The sql generated is as follows

SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT dbo.UWYearDetail.*, dbo.UWYearGroup.*
FROM dbo.UWYearDetail INNER JOIN
dbo.UWYearGroup ON dbo.UWYearDetail.UWYearGroupId = dbo.UWYearGroup.UWYearGroupId
ORDER BY dbo.UWYearDetail.PlanVersionId, dbo.UWYearGroup.UWFinancialPlanSegmentId, dbo.UWYearGroup.UWYear, dbo.UWYearGroup.MandDFlag,

If I run sql the results are displayed in proper order but the view only order by first item in order by clause.

Has somebody experience same thing? How to fix this issue?

I am getting the resultset sorted differently if I use a column number in the ORDER BY clause instead of a column name.

I noticed that StockDate is a datetime datatype so why does the month get ordered 1st, then day get ordered 2nd and year get ordered 3rd...

The sample data is MM/DD/YYYY...

So, how do I get it ordered propery by Year, Month then Day??

Specify Order For Select Results, Order By: Help!

Lets say I have a table named [Leadership] and I want to select the field 'leadershipName' from the [Leadership] Table.

My query would look something like this:

Select leadershipName
From Leadership

Now, I would like to order the results of this query... but I don't want to simply order them by ASC or DESC. Instead, I need to order them as follows:

Executive Board Members, Delegates, Grievance Chairs, and Negotiators

My question: Can this be done through MS SQL or do I need to add a field to my [Leadership] table named 'leadershipImportance' or something as an integer to denote the level of importance of the position so that I can order on that value ASC or DESC?

In-Order/Level Order Etc. Traversal Using CTE

Hi,

I have some hierarchical data in a table. Say for example:

Parent Child
------------------------
NULL 1

1 2

1 3

2 4

2 5

3 6

3 7

5 8

5 9

7 10

7 11

11 12

11 13


Now I want to be able to use CTE's to be able to traverse this tree in
1) level by level order 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10....
2) in order 1,2,4,5,8,9,3,6,7,10,11,12,13...

What would be the aueries for this. Using the following i get: 1,2,3,6,7,10,11,12,13,4,5,8,9 (interesting and potentially useful) but I would like to be able to experiment with the aforementioned orders as well.


with Tree (id)

as

(

select id from WithTest

where parent is null

union all

select a.id

from Tree b join WithTest a

on b.id = a.parent



)

select * from Tree

Order ID For Latest Order For Every Customer

Hi!
For the Orders table (let's assume for the Northwind database), I'm trying
to get the order id of the latest order for every customer.
That means that the result should be one record per customer and that would
display CustomerID and OrderID.

Any ideas?

The data file is a simple Unicode file with lines of text. BCPapparently doesn't guarantee this ordering, and neither does theimport tool. I want to be able to load the data either sequentially oradd line numbering to large Unicode file (1 million lines). i am dealing with around 14000 rows which need to be put into the sql destination.,But what i see is that the order of the rows in the desination is not the same as in the source,

However it is same for smaller number of rows.

Please help ...i want the order to be same.

I had one question on sql statement.
I had a table with a field named severity. The field severity will either consist of Minor, Moderate or Severe. How can I  construct an sql statement whereby the severity will be order as Severe follow by Moderate and  Minor.
