View 3 Replies View RelatedMy server is MS Sql Server 2005. I'm using com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver as the driver class. I've established a connection to the database.
I'm trying to invoke a stored procedure using JDBC and a callable statement. The stored procedure has a parameter @CurOut CURSOR VARYING OUTPUT. How do I setup the callable statement so the output parameter is accepted by the driver?
I'm not really trying to pass a cursor up to the database Server but I'm wanting a cursor back from the stored procedure that is other than the result set or other value the stored procedure returns.
First problem: What java.sql.Types (or SQL Server specific) value do I specify for the out parameter I'm registering on the CallableStatement?
Second problem: What do I set the value of the parameter to?
The code looks like:
CallableStatement cstmt = myConnection.prepareCall(sQuery);
cstmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.OTHER); // What is the right type?
cstmt.setNull(1, Types.OTHER); // What is the right type?
if (cstmt.execute()) {
ResultSet rs = cstmt.getResultSet();
}
Execution results in a NullPointerException from the driver.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your assistance.

Hello Guys,
Please could you help me formulate a SELECT statement to output a date in the format (Month, Date Year), eg
October, 07 2007. Thanks.
Hi,
If I query like this, am getting the following Output.. Why is the part before '_ ' gets truncated and gets displayed as result ?
SELECT 10_to_100
_to_100
-----------
10
SELECT 25_from
_from
-----------
25
If anybody is familiar with the reason,pls share...
cheers !

In my program i have function that will get one value from Database.
Here i want to assign the output of the sql query to a local variable.
Its like select emp_id into Num from emp where emp_roll=222;
here NUM is local variable which was declared in my program.
Is it correct.?
can anyone please guide me..?
I have a user login scenario where I would like to make sure that they not only exist in the user table, but also make sure there account is "verified" and "active". I'm trying to return 3 output parameters. UserID, verified, active. Is this possible?
Do I need just a select statement to do this? What is the difference between the output and select statements?
Thanks in advance.
I'm executing the following...
select COL1, min(COL2) from TABLE group by COL1
the table has many duplicate entries, where COL2 is the primary key and unique, but its the duplicate COL1 entries that have to be removed.
I was hoping a simple
"delete from table where COL1 not in (select COL1, min(COL2) from TABLE group by COL1)"
would do the trick, but obviously in returning two columns from the subselect this won't work. Can I hide the COL2 output from the query that will be put in the subselect?
this is a one-off thing, so i'm not overly concerned about overhead or elegance. just need to make it so.

There are about 10 select statements in a store procedure.
All select statements are need.
Is it possible to output only the result of last select statement?
Is there a way to build a select statement that will output related rows with different column data per row? I want to return something like:
rowtype| ID | value
A | 123 | alpha
B | 123 | beta
C | 123 | delta
A | 124 | some val
B | 124 | some val 2
C | 124 | some val 3
etc...
where for each ID, I have 3 rows that are associated with it and with different corresponding values.
I'm thinking that I will have to build a temp table/cursor that will get all the ID data and then loop through it to insert each rowtype data into another temp table.
i.e. each ID iteration will do something like:
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('A', 123, 'alpha')
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('B', 123, 'beta')
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('C', 123, 'delta')
etc..
After my loop, I will just do a select * from #someTempTable
Is there a better, more elegant way instead of using two temp tables? I am using MSSQL 2005

Is there a way to set a default value for a sp parameter using a select statement(see code bellow)

Hello, I'm needing to pass a variable length number of values to a select statement so I can populate a result list with items related to all the checkboxlist items that were selected by the user. for example, the user checks products x, y and z, then hits submit, and then they see a list of all the tests they need to run for each product. I found a UDF that parses a comma delimited string and puts the values into a table. I learned how to do this here: http://codebetter.com/blogs/darrell.norton/archive/2003/07/01/361.aspx I have a checkboxlist that I'm generating the string from, so the string could look like this: "1,3,4,5,7" etc.I added the function mentioned in the URL above to my database, and if I understand right, I should be able to pass the table it creates into the select statement like so:
WHERE (OrderStatus IN ((select value from dbo.fn_Split(@StatusList,','))) OR @StatusList IS NULL) but now I don't know how to assign the string value to the parameter, say to '@solution_id'.my current select statement which was generated by Visual Studio 2005 looks like this: SELECT [test], [owner], [date] FROM [test_table] WHERE ([solution_ID] = @solution_ID) ...but this only pulls results for the first item checked in the checkboxlist.Does anyone know how this is done? I'm sure it's simple, but I'm new to ASP .NET so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a temp table that hosts data from a MDX query, I want to select a column from that table by passing in a parameter and then insert to a new table.
Here's the table structure, let's call it #temp
[Product].[Product Hierarchy].[level 03].[Member_CAPTION], [Measures].[Gross Sales]
Bike, 200
Accessory , 100
I have a table in the DB created as [ProductSales]
Here's what works for me:
insert into [ProductSales](Product, Sales)
Select convert(varchar(20), "[Product].[Product Hierarchy].[level 03].[Member_CAPTION]") as 'Product' , convert(decimal(18,2), [Measures].[Data]) as 'Sales'
From #temp
But in reality the product level is not always on level 03, I want to define a parameter @Product and pass it to the select list.
Here's what I tried to do:
Declare @Product varchar(500) = convert(varchar(20), "[Product].[Product Hierarchy].[level 01].[Member_CAPTION]")
Declare @SQL varchar(MAX)
SET @SQL='insert into [ProductSales](Product, Sales)
Select '+@Product+' as 'Product' , convert(decimal(18,2), [Measures].[Data]) as 'Sales'
From #temp'
Exec @SQL
But it threw me error, what is the right way to do it, is it because the double quote or single quote thing?
I am using a OLE DB source task and i want to setup a parameter in the select statement. Is this possible and how would this be done. I know you can pass a parameter in the where clause like:
select id, lname, fname, startDate, endDate from Employee where id = ?
How would i set startDate and endDate as parameters as i would like to be able to change these parameters when running the package. I would like to set dates in the select statement as parameters like how you would in the where clause.
Select id, lname, fname, ? startDate, ? endDate, from employee where id = ?
I would like to be able to change these dates without having to go in to the package and hard code it back in there and then deploy.
The package uses a OLE DB source to Flatfile Destination.
After running my ssis pkg for some time with no problems I saw the following error come up, probably during execution of a stored procedure ...
An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E14 Description: "The formal parameter "@ReportingId" was not declared as an OUTPUT parameter, but the actual parameter passed in requested output.".
I see some references to this on the web (even this one) but so far they seem like deadends. Doe anybody know what this means? Below is a summary of how the variable is used in the stored proc.
The sp is declared with 21 input params only, none of them is @ReportingId. It declares @ReportingId as a bigint variable and uses it in the beginning of the proc as follows...
Code Snippet
select @ReportingId = max(ReportingId)
from [dbo].[GuidToReportingid]
where Guid = @UniqueIdentifier and
EffectiveEndDate is null
if @ReportingId is null
BEGIN
insert into [dbo].[GuidToReportingId]
select @UniqueIdentifier,getdate(),null,getdate()
set @ReportingId = scope_identity()
END
ELSE
BEGIN
select @rowcount = count(*) from [dbo].[someTable]
where ReportingId = @ReportingId and...lots of other conditions
...later as part of an else it does the following...
Code Snippet
if @rowcount > 0 and @joinsMatch = 1
begin
set @insertFlag = 0
end
else
begin
update [dbo].[GuidToReportingId]
set EffectiveEndDate = getdate()
where ReportingId = @ReportingId
insert into [dbo].[GuidToReportingId]
select @UniqueIdentifier,getdate(),null,getdate()
set @ReportingId = scope_identity()
end
...and before the return it's value is inserted to different tables.

I have an SQL INSERT statement with an output parameter called @CusRef. I have been trying to store this in a session variable, however all i am able to store is the reference to the parameter object. (The returned value stored in the parameter is an Integer)Session("CustomerReference") = DataConn.InsertParameters.Item("CusRef")I cant seem to find a value field or a method to get the value from a parameter. I have also tried using CType(DataConn.InsertParameters.Item("CusRef"), Integer) but it cant convert the Parameter type to an Integer.Please help,ThanksGareth
View 1 Replies View RelatedA SQL Server 2005 DB table named "Users" has the following columns:
ID - int (IDENTITY)FirstName - varchar(50)LastName - varchar(50)UserID - varchar(20)Password - varchar(20)
Before inserting a new record in the DB table, ASP.NET first checks whether the UserID supplied by the new record already exists or not. If it exists, the new record shouldn't be inserted in the DB table & the user should be shown a message saying UserID already exists. To do this, ASP.NET uses a stored procedure. If the value returned by the stored procedure is 1, it means that the UserID already exists. If the value returned by the stored procedure is 0, then the new record should be inserted in the DB table. This is how I have framed the stored procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE RegUsers @FName varchar(50), @LName varchar(50), @UserID varchar(50), @Password varchar(50), @return_value int OUTPUTAS IF EXISTS(SELECT UserID FROM Users WHERE UserID=@UserID) BEGIN SET @return_value=1 END ELSE BEGIN SET @return_value=0 INSERT INTO Users VALUES (@FName,@LName,@UserID,@Password) END
& this is how I am invoking the stored procedure from the ASPX page:
<script runat="server"> Sub btnSubmit(ByVal obj As Object, ByVal ea As EventArgs) Dim sqlCmd As SqlCommand Dim sqlConn As SqlConnection
sqlConn = New SqlConnection("Data Source=MyDBSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=DB;Integrated Security=True") sqlCmd = New SqlCommand("RegUsers", sqlConn) sqlCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
With sqlCmd Parameters.Add("@return_value", SqlDbType.Int, 4).Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue Parameters.AddWithValue("@FName", txtFName.Text) Parameters.AddWithValue("@LName", txtLName.Text) Parameters.AddWithValue("@UserID", txtUserID.Text) Parameters.AddWithValue("@Password", txtPassword.Text) End With
sqlConn.Open() sqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
If (sqlCmd.Parameters(0).Value = 1) Then lblMessage.Text = "UserID Already Exists!" ElseIf (sqlCmd.Parameters(0).Value = 0) Then lblMessage.Text = "Thanks For Registering!" End If
sqlConn.Close() End Sub</script><form runat="server"><%-- the 4 TextBoxes come here --></form>
When I execute the above ASPX code, if the UserID I entered already exists in the DB table, then ASPX generates the following error:
Procedure or Function 'RegisterUsers' expects parameter '@return_value', which was not supplied.
pointing to the line
sqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Can someone please point out where am I going wrong?

Hi I want to make a Function in my User class that adds new members into the db. What I want to do is add the users details in using a stored procedure and input parameters and then return a parameter indicating their userid value and set it to a variable.
My userid column in the my db is auto incrementing with a seed of 1 and a step value of 1.
How could I create an output parameter that would return their new user id and then how would i set it to an integer variable.
Thanks

Hi,
I have stored some HTML in a table using an attribute defined as a "text" datatype. I use a stored procedure to insert the data and it works fine - I can see the formattede HTML via direct table access uising enterprise manager.
Now I need to call back this data into my vb.net program. So I have created another stored procedure and have tried to out put the field via an output paramater. The output parameter is defined as a text datatype without a field size and the sql assigns the data in a format select @field = dbfield ....
I get a message saying that data of type text cannot be output to the parameter? I will only ever return 1 record and setting up an adapter etc seems overkill. Anyone got a workaround for this?
Thanks,
Rob.
