As we have progressed with this view, we have reached the stagewhere the data is generated into a table which is then used in ourreporting application. This has improved reporting performanceconsiderably.There is a stored procedure which copies the data from the view into atable. Very simple select into statement.However, I was wondering if I actually held the query code in thestored procedure, would this improve performance ?The only user for this would be the server for getting to the data inthe view and generating into a table.I know it's a very general question, but would I see any performancedifference doing this as an SP instead of an SP calling a view ?Would appreciate any constructive comments. Not posting the view asit'll be too long, but FWIW, using SQL 7.

SELECT Data: Stored Procedures Or View?
May 10, 2007Hi, I'm developing a fresh SQL DB which is result of a deep analysis of an old Access DB. THe thing is, this old one had very complex consultations to the Access tables, and some consultations were using another consultations as way to select some specific data. THe ideia in SQL is to avoid that too, however, there are some data that may serve exactly the same to some bigger stored procedures. This way, I have three options I guess: 1. Create every stored procedure making select queries directly to the table and it's done!2. Create auxiliary stored procedures which will select the redundant data, and when it is needed, another stored procedures call this one and use its returned data. (is this possible anyway?).3. I create a view to this redundant data, and the greater depth stored procedures access this data of the view when needed. I've heard, however, that a select to a view is slower than directly to the table, once the view adds an extra query to the process.. What is your guess on this issue of mine?I'm almost sure that option 1 is the best, however, I'd love to hear from you guys your opinion on this. The greater issue above this all is just one - performance. Thanks a lot!

Jan 31, 2008Hi I have an application that I have started to develop. I have successfully set the connection to open the SQL Server database that I created. When I first started on the program, I was able to create Table Adapters by dragging the tables or stored procedures onto the DataSet work surface and going through the configuration process. At one point, however, I stopped being able to see any of my stored procedures in the database view although they are there because when I go to create a new table adapter, I am able to right click and add the new adapter and find the stored procedure in the wizard.Is there any way I can reset this so that my stored procedures are visible again. I have tried refreshing to no avail - and I think this is creating problems in other parts of the application.Any help appreciate.Roger

Using SQL 2005, SP2. All of a sudden, whenever I create any stored procedures in the master database, they get created as system stored procedures. Doesn't matter what I name them, and what they do.
For example, even this simple little guy:
CREATE PROCEDURE BOB
AS
PRINT 'BOB'
GO
Gets created as a system stored procedure.
Any ideas what would cause that and/or how to fix it?

I created a query, which makes use of a temp table, and I need the results to be displayed in a View. Unfortunately, Views do not support temp tables, as far as I know, so I put my code in a stored procedure, with the hope I could call it from a View....
I tried:
CREATE VIEW [qryMyView]
AS
EXEC pr_MyProc
and unfortunately, it does not let this run.
Anybody able to help me out please?

Aug 14, 2000I had given one of our developers create view permissions, but he wants to also modify views that are not owned by him, they are owned by dbo.
I ran a profiler trace and determined that when he tries to modify a view using query designer in SQLem or right clicks in SQLem on the view and goes to properties, it is performing a ALTER VIEW. It does the same for dbo in a trace (an ALTER View). He gets a call failed and a permission error that he doesn't have create view permissions, object is owned by dbo, using both methods.
If it is doing an alter view how can I set permissions for that and why does it give a create view error when its really doing an alter view? Very confusing.

When ever I open using SQL Entreprise manager to edit it by adding or removing a field i inserts Expr1,2.. and I don t want that. The result I get is:

I don t want Entreprise manager to generate the Expr fields since I use the real fields in my application.

This Might be a really simple thing, however we have just installed SQL server 2005 on a new server, and are having difficulties with the set up of the Store Procedures. Every time we try to modify an existing stored procedure it attempts to save it as an SQL file, unlike in 2000 where it saved it as part of the database itself.

Feb 21, 2006A colleague of mine has a view that returns approx 100000 rows in about 60 seconds.
He wants to use the data returned from that view in an OLE DB Source component.
When he selects the view from the drop-down list of available tables then SSIS seems to hang without any data being returned (he waited for about 15 mins).
He then changed the OLE DB Source component to use a SQL statement and the SQL statement was: SELECT * FROM <viewname>
In this instance all the data was returned in approx 60 seconds (as expected).
This makes no sense. One would think that selecting a view from the drop-down and doing a SELECT *... from that view would be exactly the same. Evidently that isn't the case.
Can anyone explain why?

Mar 1, 2006Recently i had to write a script in sql to compare multiple tables to get a result of items that do not conform to certain business logic. In doing so i wrote all of this information into a sql parameter which branches out to a few other parameters within the parameter.
Now if you need the code just let me ask, but this is a general question to see if it has occured for anyone else.
The problem i am recieving is when i access the code from a .net windows application it tells me:
Error Message:Insert Error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.Insert Error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.
Procedure Errored On: val_GetDuplicateItemsFromAssignmentLine Number: 16
However when i run the sql parameter within SQL it accesses it just find. This is using the same parameter values.
Does anyone know why this could be happening?

I am a newbie to the nth degree. I am O(newbie) ;)
Anyways, I have a MS SQL Server with a database on it called MyDatabase. I am creating a web application that accesses this database. My question is the Database has a bunch of tables, stored procedures in it and such. I want to add a new one. What is the process that goes on here.
There is a file called SPS.sql and when I open it up, it is a bunch of create procedure functions. The names of the procedures match the names of the procedure objects in the object browser in my sql query analyzer.
I guess, if I want to create a new procedure, do i just open up this file, edit it and save it? I don't think it is exactly working because my changes are happening when I run my web application. (for example i clearly change my procedure called TEST in that SPS.sql file, then when I call it in my VB code it hasn't taken affect!.
Thanks for your help. I am starting to enjoy this "programming".
On a side note: My app is on a server(MS SERVER 2003). Sometomes when I am in the SQL query analyzer.the computer just locks out. The power is on but I cant do anything but turn off the power....

The first returns a percentage for player wins, the second gives me a photo and sums the player winnings
I would like to combine the results so I can get the percentage and wininngs in one query, in another matter all together I would like create a procedure like the first but instead of returning only one player, I would like to return the percentage for each player

Feb 25, 2007I have a question about stored procedures, Is it better to use stored procedures even if I only use it once at my site? Or is it better to write the sql-part directly in the sqldatasource?
And am I forced to create two different stored procedures even if they are exactly the same except the "Where-part"?
Now I have around 40 stored procedures, and quite many of them looks the same except the where-part...
